Ylang Cananga

I was always an advocate for good ylang fragrances. I love the flowers and adore the scent they give off. Creamy, deeply soothing, sweet and tropical. It came as a surprise when I saw Chloe releasing the new collection. Needless to say I wanted to get my hands on it and I finally did. I tried all 2021 Chloe releases and Ylang quickly became my favourite. Ylang is well known for its soothing properties and in this composition it keeps being calm and well faceted. I have favoured Lorga and Micallef ylang-ylangs in the past. Guerlain's l'Art et Matiere Ylang offering was a neat love for a while too. But then came Chloe and blinded me by the floral creaminess bordering soft indolic edge. Absolute love. It is not monotone ylang essence, opening features something citric but not bitter, mandarin? Base has soft slightly laconic sandalwood. Very well done.

What a gorgeous, fresh, tropical scent. This to me is a happy fragrance. It’s bright and sunny. The ylang-ylang is soft and inoffensive. I blind bought this based on all the ratings I could find and it’s definitely a winner. 10/10 for me. I don’t mind that it doesn’t last long either. For 50ml these bottles are really well priced in my opinion. Love it! So far I have Vanilla Planifolia which is another love, Jasmin which I find is a beautiful refreshing scent, Cedrus which I’m still a bit unsure of, and I’m now awaiting Herba Mimosa and Magnolia Alba to complete all the scents I wanted from this range. I’ve been really impressed with this collection. All the fragrances are light, airy, delicate and feminine. I love that these can be layered to make different scent combinations as well. All of them are perfect for spring and summer.

Just the happiest and most uplifting fragrance I ever tried. Like a nice and beautiful sunny day bottled up. It doesn't smell cloying, dated or artificial at all. It's just the right amount of sweet, clean and fresh, perfect for summer even in the heat. Very feminine and long lasting too. I own and love quite a few ylang dominant perfumes and this one is pretty different and unique, even for a soliflore. Never smelled real ylang ylang flowers, so can't say if Ylang Cananga smells authentic, but to me it feels as if you are sniffing a dandelion flower where yellow pollen was mixed with sweet nectar and a bit of vanilla. It's so gorgeous for being a seemingly simple soliflore. The bottle looks beautiful and the price for 150ml is adequate. Not a fan of the texture of the cap though, feels like a sandpaper or pumice stone.

I adore this fragrance! It is the perfect ylang ylang fragrance and it smells almost identical to the actual flower from the tree, with its buttery, tropical and sweet banana nuances and mesmerizing headiness. I am in heaven! I could not really smell anything but ylang ylang in this and that is exactly what I wanted. For some reason, ylang ylang almost never gets to shine alone and is only the supporting cast to other notes in fragrances. I got a good 8 hours wear and medium sillage from this perfume and I think that it would be great on a woman for a spring or summer day. It is just so feminine, light and joyful like the sun itself 🌞 9/10 from me for Ylang Cananga by Chloé for sure! This is why I bought a full 50 ml bottle of it from David Jones in Sydney. It is up there with Chloé by Karl Lagerfeld for me.

Last May, I visited the garden of my mom's friend, and he gave me a few ylang-ylang flowers. It smelled really good—sweet and slightly powdery. I kept them in my backpack till the end of the trip, and was so sad when they began to wilt. That was when I thought of buying a perfume with the ylang-ylang note. This Ylang Cananga of Chloé smelled at least 95% similar to the ylang-ylang flowers I had back in May, or even almost identical. When the perfume dries down, it reveals a sweet, warm, rich vanilla note, while the fresh flower itself smelled a bit greener. I've been loving this scent lately. It smells feminine, fresh, and somehow uplifting. It's kinda hot here in my city, but the perfume doesn't feel heavy or offensive at all. However, this is not a subtle, soft scent if that's what you're looking for.
