Ylang Cananga

I was always an advocate for good ylang fragrances. I love the flowers and adore the scent they give off. Creamy, deeply soothing, sweet and tropical. It came as a surprise when I saw Chloe releasing the new collection. Needless to say I wanted to get my hands on it and I finally did. I tried all 2021 Chloe releases and Ylang quickly became my favourite. Ylang is well known for its soothing properties and in this composition it keeps being calm and well faceted. I have favoured Lorga and Micallef ylang-ylangs in the past. Guerlain's l'Art et Matiere Ylang offering was a neat love for a while too. But then came Chloe and blinded me by the floral creaminess bordering soft indolic edge. Absolute love. It is not monotone ylang essence, opening features something citric but not bitter, mandarin? Base has soft slightly laconic sandalwood. Very well done.

What a gorgeous, fresh, tropical scent. This to me is a happy fragrance. It’s bright and sunny. The ylang-ylang is soft and inoffensive. I blind bought this based on all the ratings I could find and it’s definitely a winner. 10/10 for me. I don’t mind that it doesn’t last long either. For 50ml these bottles are really well priced in my opinion. Love it! So far I have Vanilla Planifolia which is another love, Jasmin which I find is a beautiful refreshing scent, Cedrus which I’m still a bit unsure of, and I’m now awaiting Herba Mimosa and Magnolia Alba to complete all the scents I wanted from this range. I’ve been really impressed with this collection. All the fragrances are light, airy, delicate and feminine. I love that these can be layered to make different scent combinations as well. All of them are perfect for spring and summer.

Just the happiest and most uplifting fragrance I ever tried. Like a nice and beautiful sunny day bottled up. It doesn't smell cloying, dated or artificial at all. It's just the right amount of sweet, clean and fresh, perfect for summer even in the heat. Very feminine and long lasting too. I own and love quite a few ylang dominant perfumes and this one is pretty different and unique, even for a soliflore. Never smelled real ylang ylang flowers, so can't say if Ylang Cananga smells authentic, but to me it feels as if you are sniffing a dandelion flower where yellow pollen was mixed with sweet nectar and a bit of vanilla. It's so gorgeous for being a seemingly simple soliflore. The bottle looks beautiful and the price for 150ml is adequate. Not a fan of the texture of the cap though, feels like a sandpaper or pumice stone.

I adore this fragrance! It is the perfect ylang ylang fragrance and it smells almost identical to the actual flower from the tree, with its buttery, tropical and sweet banana nuances and mesmerizing headiness. I am in heaven! I could not really smell anything but ylang ylang in this and that is exactly what I wanted. For some reason, ylang ylang almost never gets to shine alone and is only the supporting cast to other notes in fragrances. I got a good 8 hours wear and medium sillage from this perfume and I think that it would be great on a woman for a spring or summer day. It is just so feminine, light and joyful like the sun itself 🌞 9/10 from me for Ylang Cananga by Chloé for sure! This is why I bought a full 50 ml bottle of it from David Jones in Sydney. It is up there with Chloé by Karl Lagerfeld for me.

Last May, I visited the garden of my mom's friend, and he gave me a few ylang-ylang flowers. It smelled really good—sweet and slightly powdery. I kept them in my backpack till the end of the trip, and was so sad when they began to wilt. That was when I thought of buying a perfume with the ylang-ylang note. This Ylang Cananga of Chloé smelled at least 95% similar to the ylang-ylang flowers I had back in May, or even almost identical. When the perfume dries down, it reveals a sweet, warm, rich vanilla note, while the fresh flower itself smelled a bit greener. I've been loving this scent lately. It smells feminine, fresh, and somehow uplifting. It's kinda hot here in my city, but the perfume doesn't feel heavy or offensive at all. However, this is not a subtle, soft scent if that's what you're looking for.

Love Tuberose but with Ylang instead of the Tuberose/white florals! There's a bit of citrus in the top notes that give it a fresh effervescence, quickly followed by a skin-salty, ever-so-slightly-sour ylang custard cream. (There's absolutely no camphor, which I love in my ylangs but its absence doesn't hurt this at all) It only lasts about 4 hours on my skin, but much longer on clothes/hair. I was a little concerned it would be too sweet, but it's well balanced and I love it. The sweetness is measured and (the entire cream/sandalwood/cedar base really) very comparable to Love. I'm not sure that it would be a safe blind buy for someone who isn't a ylang fan; but if you love the "custard pudding" style ylangs honestly I say just get it.

I bloody love ylang ylang & this is no brainer. Where has she been all my life?! Floral (duh!), creamy, a little sweet, a little milky, a little nutty and a little woody. A little bit of everything good about ylang ylang. Perfect & beautifully captured. Great projection and longevity for the summer too! Stole my heart in 5 tests. I’m completely feral for this now and I’m not even a floral lady. When I am a mother, this is the scent my kids will remember me by. I will also be wearing this on my wedding day. Please never discontinue!

Sweet and creamy ylang-ylang! Smells like the lobby of a 5-star hotel. And the longevity and projection are quite impressive, especially in hot and humid weather. I wore it during my almost two-day flight from Manila to Sao Paulo, and my friend traveling with me still caught whiffs of it hours after we had settled in our hotel. This layered with Jasminum Sambac reminds me of the sampaguita/jasmine garlands sold outside churches. I love it so much! A successful blind buy for me!

So beautiful! This might be my favourite ylang scent to date. The opening is bright with tuberose or white florals and a hint of something citrusy that quickly gives way to ylang and yellow florals immersed in creamy coconut. It dries down to a powdery aftermath with a long ylang trail that just lasts forever, especially in my hair. A dreamy summer scent.

This has become my favourite ylang perfume at the moment, including Goutal Songes. Nothing scratchy or irking here just a beautiful soft creamy ylang heavy white floral that is not too banana-like, as some ylang scents can be. Very easy go to perfume that never gives me a headache and is never too much, but still noticeable for several hours.

This fragrance can be hard to find, but is absolutely worth it!! This is the very best of all the tropical white florals, in my opinion! I love Oud Juane Intense, Hisbicus Palm, Solie Blanc, and the list goes on.... This is the best. Beautifully blended and just light enough to keep it fresh. I want to bathe in it!

Beautiful light ylang perfume. It's really creamy and it reminds me of ice cream shop smell. I also can smell neroli in it so maybe this pyramid list isn't complete. It's very pleasant ylang perfume that doesn't suffocate. Definitely leans feminine but I don't care. Perfect for spring/summer.

I smell white flower in the opening like jasmine or tuberose just for minutes, then the beautiful Ylang-Ylang with a hint of creamy coconuty and little bit bublegummy in the end. For me it's not suntan lotion vibes. Chloe atelier presents the beautiful realistic side of Ylang-Ylang flower

God I need a full size of this. It’s so simple, realistic, fresh, and sweet. It’s the kind of sweetness that resembles a very light vanilla. This smells like the yellow floral scents you smell in hotels. This would be an amazing layering perfume too because it’s so simple.

Summer in a bottle! Ylang Cananga is not a complex scent, but it takes you to the beach, to tropical destinations. It is not fruity but very floral and tropical and such a beautiful Ylang Ylang scent that can easily be layered with other scents.

Ylang Cananga is blow your mind, eyes roll back, WOW scent. Beautiful, creamy, clean, bright, hypnotic, ylang ylang. I am so glad I purchased this! 💕 (If you liked APOM you will love this. Same kind of ylangylang. not same or similar scent tho)

This is a very unique scent. Very soft smelling if done right and not oversprayed. Very sensual. Very demure scent. The scent stayed with me till the next day. I love layering this with rose based perfumes to make it more beautiful.

This is exactly what I was hoping for! Summer in a bottle! What a beautiful, creamy, happy ylang ylang. It’s very sweet, but I think it wears smoothly. The sweetness can be toned down a bit by layering it with Vanilla Planifolia.

There is no single wilted ylang ylang petal in this perfume; smells of freshly picked flowers only. It's sweet but not cloying and just the right amount of creaminess. Blind-bought with no regrets!

I think this is my holy grail ylang fragrance. Smooth, ethereal, and not cluttered up with other notes usually paired with this floral. So beautiful I ordered a backup immediately.

This isn't a banana custard type ylang, as is in Perris's Nosy Be, Lorenzo Villoresi's Ylang Ylang, Parum d'Empire's Un Bel Amour D’été, or even Givenchy's Ysatis. This is a dry, airy Ylang, as delicate as the butterflies the flowers bring to mind. It is the scent of ylang blossoms on a warm breeze, kissed with a delicate vanilla alongside a trace of a woody base. The fragrance is really beautiful, but much lighter than what I imagined possibly because so many of the ylang fragrances I own are heavy hitters, like those cited above. I would love to see the actual note pyramid, because despite sounding deceptively simple, there is a lot more going on here. In addition to the notes I mentioned, there is also citrus and little black pepper spiciness at the opening, before the ylang comes through. When it does, this transforms into something very natural, as if you are smelling a fully in bloom ylang ylang tree, in its natural habitat. Looking at the this reminds me section it's clear that not many reviewers can agree that this smells like many of the perfume's users suggested there. There seems to be more downvotes than upvotes for similarities. I agree with that as I do not think it resembles many of the perfumes listed there either. The Ylang vaguely resembles the ylang used in Giorgio Beverly Hills, and it shares the same sunny profile, but as far as the rest of the fragrance, no. Compared to this delicate composition, Giorgio has more in common with the heavy hitters I cited than this. Yet despite the simple note profile, this is pretty unique and has me debating whether to add this to my wardrobe or not. Fortunately, I still have plenty of this 3ml. sample left to test again, but I do want to compare it against Prada's Infusion d'Ylang, as that is supposedly in the same soft ylang scent on a breeze vein that I prefer, before committing to a fb. I really do love these dainty florals though, and this one has me itching to pull my wallet out. Edit 4/24/26 - I've since tried the Prada Ylang fragrance, and I didn't like it as much as this. That wore very woody on me whereas this is very floral, which I prefer. I recommend that you try before you buy either.

Now this one walks into the room before you do. A golden, floral powerhouse, drenched in sunshine and bold confidence. The ylang ylang here is lush, intense, and unapologetically vibrant, almost buttery with a creamy tropical warmth, yet there’s a sharpness that makes it undeniably assertive. To me, this was the yellow floral version of beast mode. It didn’t tiptoe; it announced itself. I wasn’t the biggest fan at first because it felt a bit too heady for my mood, but I can’t deny ... it’s a standout. The kind of scent that leaves a trail and a memory. If florals were people, this would be the glamorous diva in a bright canary gown, commanding attention just by existing. Dreamy Ylang fragrance 😍 Full of flowers, a smooth and elegant floral scent, smooth cream similar to Le Labo Lys 41 but I think it's easier to smell, and the price is also cheaper. I feel like I'm a spring fairy when I wear this fragrance, I'm surrounded by beautiful light and colorful butterflies flying. It is a completely bright, radiant perfume, one that I always associate with sun-drenched Mediterranean coastal European lands. It could be the South of France, Italy or Greece. If you love the poetic Vibes of the Mediterranean like novels, to make it easier to imagine, it's like the Italian island of Sicily or romantic Rome, but not the Citrus scent but the Floral scent, you should definitely try this! A bright, cheerful, joy-filled scent... it reminded me of a yellow shampoo from my childhood whose name I can't recall. I know pure ylang ylang oil, and I don't think this is a soliflore ylang ylang. There's something juicier and more tropical-fruity in it, and I think there's orange blossom too. Fresh, something carrying sunlight energy... sweet, but with a natural sweetness that didn't bother me at all. Normally I sense something indolic in ylang ylang scents, but this one doesn't have it. I don't love it and I don't hate it. Its a fresh white floral scent for summer and during hot days. Its a soapy clean scent. I disagree with the comments saying it doesn't last long. I feel it can't be any stronger ! It lingers all day long but it's not the type of perfume you wake up the next day and you can smell it on your wrist but you'll definitely smell it on your clothes. I actually find it in strength it's not weak ! It's a safe blind buy if you like white florals that are fresh and clean

The opening smells balmy and bright like citrus fruits and orange blossom. It dries down to a sunny yellow floral thanks to the creamy ylang ylang, which is rightfully the star of the show. Very feminine, summery and uplifting.

Sadly, I found this scent underwhelming. Especially for the price. Maybe if I were in my twenties and this would have been my first encounter with ylang ylang, I would have liked this... I absolutely adore ylang ylang in fragrances but Chloe’s take on this stunning exotic flower left me wanting more. It’s nice, pleasant, smells pretty, but it’s quite soft and light, and very simple. There’s no depth or contrast in this. And for how much Chloe’s charging for this Atelier des Fleurs line, 250 euros a bottle, no thanks. I’ll pass.. There are better (and stronger and cheaper) ylang ylang centred fragrances on the market in 2024 in my opinion. The only scenario I would consider getting this since I love ylang ylang is if I could find it for half price off. It does smells nice!

It’s a beautiful floral scent but I feel for me there is something missing. It feels very sweet and white floral at the same time which doesn’t gel well for me.

Wow! This was such a disappointment! It has a solar note (which I hate) and is overwhelmingly soapy green. The solar ylang quality is very similar to the one in Prada Infusion d’ylang which is easier to find (and afford.) So try that one first if you want to get and idea if you will like this one.

EDIT - FEB 2025: I can tolerate this in winter. There is something about this perfume that smells a bit poisonous. This is how I experience it - impressions: *Top: rum in wood barrels + indolic flower (ripe white lily or tuberose) + ylang ylang + vanilla macaron (generic sugary) + then in the background: coffee grinds mixed with dish soap + zest of lemon with a bit of dirt in the rind *Mid: ylang ylang + Pez candy (generic sweet) *Base: vanilla + Pez candy (generic sugary) -------------------------- Very bad quality bottle and spray top - before even opening the box it leaked everywhere in my things and then impossible to remove (even though the longevity of this is not good). Now it does not spray properly and gets on my fingers but does not go on well on skin. Also cannot transport it because of that. I will need to move this to a travel spray container if I want to even use it and then it will get all over everything again. For the bottle and top issues alone, this makes me hate the product which was not cheap. The glue behind the label even got damaged so it’s crooked. Some greenwashing attempt about the bottle being somewhat sustainable also annoying. I should have tested this in advance but was travelling and chose to buy a 50mL then and there at the airport... Again, a warning: the longevity is not good. And the smell has become meh/overripe. Now cannot stand this really. Will try again later.

I’ve been enjoying ylang ylang more and more lately and this is an effortless, pretty, ylang ylang focused scent. I wasn’t expecting much from it but I was really impressed with it and the performance of it was amazing, even in a super humid climate. I’m surprised to read it didn’t perform well for some because for me it was quite the little powerhouse. It really bloomed and radiated beautifully off warm skin for hours. It’s a tropical beachy style scent to me but not sunscreen like, think beach goddess vibes. It’s very lush, fresh, creamy and warm. I do get some neroli in here like another reviewer mentioned, even though it’s not listed but it doesn’t overtake the scent thankfully, the focus is really the gorgeous ylang ylang flower and a smidge of vanilla.

My review will be different to all the praises. To me this is a generic sweet tropical perfume, no actual distinguishable notes, other than loud and cloying sweetness. A very unpleasant perfume. I gifted the little travel I had to my mother & I hated it on her too. It is very long lasting, but since I wanted to wash this off ASAP, I see that as a negative here..This is a HARD PASS for me.

As someone who loves flower bombs, this is a freaking masterpiece. It's everything I would want in a perfume and more. This is perfection - so refined, so well blended, so sexy, so effortless!!! This could well become my top perfume. So glad i bought the larger bottle... and this was a blind buy based on the notes.

Absolutely beautiful. This is the most beautiful ylang ylang perfume I've ever smelled. It's not plastic-y, not overdone, not overwhelmed by typical 'tropical' notes. This is a pure, fragrant, elegant and sweet ylang scent and I'm head over heels obsessed. Definitely a love at first sniff for me.

Instant "smelled this before" reaction. I think it reminds me a little bit of Gucci Bloom without it being a screechy white floral. Ylang Cananga is smooth, creamy and floral sweet. The bottle is super lux too. Definitely going on my wish list.

Finally I've found a perfume that I enjoy wearing every day ! Ylang Cananga is a really comforting, dreamy, clean and smooth fragrance. No headache, no rough edges, feels like being in vacation and breathing the sunny air of a happy place.

This ylang is creamy-creamy soft and smooth, like vanilla ice-cream with flowers. It is ylang, but not in its dirty and carnal incarnation like the one by Perris Monte Carlo. A very pleasant light fragrance.

I wanted soo badly to love this. On paper it's lovely ylang. On my skin it was so bad I had to wash it off. A musty, clashing, inelegant thing with all the floral wrangled out of it.

On a paper tester, this is a little less tropical than I expected. Just not what I expected.
