Chopard Rose Malaki

Packaging and presentation: 8/10 Comes in a simple cardboard box, nothing fancy. The bottle is beautiful, very elegant, thick glass, the attention to detail is amazing, but the sticker with the name looks kind of out of place in comparison, almost cheap. The cap is heavy and clicks on snug enough to pick the bottle up by it but only the exterior ring is metal. The sprayer is quite small but it works relatively ok,I wish it was a bit stronger. Longevity and projection: 5/10 Lasts 5-6 hours on skin with 3 sprays on the neck and one on the shirt, but it has only about 1 hour of maybe elbow length projection, so this one is basically only for the person wearing it and anyone getting intimate with them. Smell 8.5-9/10 If it were just the opening id say a better name for the fragrance would be "saffron Malaki" it opens with a very leathery, very dry saffron blast, and the rose is more of a supporting note along with cyprus and papyrus (isn't the official notes but this is what I get). I wouldn't even call it sweet, it does have a tinge of sweetness at the very back but it's mostly very elegant and dusty. Puts me in mind of a rose flavored Turkish delight type candy, very soft, very dusty but really well blended, it feels like it all fits together where it should be. In the dry down the rose starts gaining prominence along with the greener cyprus, remaining very dusty and elegant and Id say even becoming a bit dark. I prefer the drydown but it is pretty weak at that point so there is my biggest problem with it. It is at the same time clean and high class but a bit abrasive and even edgy, at all points it is incredibly masculine (this doesn't happen very often, but I honestly cannot imagine a woman pulling this off, which is quite unusual for a rose based scent). Id say it's a fragrance for the office but of someone like Bruce Wayne, rich but dark and mysterious. Id say all it's for seasons but summer, it's a bit do dry and dusty for that. Also I believe the complement factor is pretty much close to 0, very advanced fragrance that won't be mass appealing, and therefore don't do what I did and blindbuy, I liked it but I can see many people really not, so try before you buy. All that said I cannot believe that juice of such quality is so cheap, so overall id say it's really worth trying at least.

This Malaki line from Chopard continues to impress me. I think it's clear that it was put together in response to the Swiss Arabian Malaki series, and wasn't made for the American (or maybe even the European) market. To me, Rose Malaki is more complex than the notes in the list. Rose, for sure, but it's not a jammy one. There is saffron, and it's on the leathery side of the note. I also get musk and vanilla. The cedar is there and it's a very woody one, almost in the direction of oud, a little bit of that sour/pissy note that we can also smell in a lot of the Dior ouds, though not as pungent as theirs. The coumarin/vanilla I smell here balances out the leathery and woody aspects of the fragrance without pushing it into gourmand territory. The rose is powdery as opposed to jammy too, though this maintains a wetness, almost toward aquatic, and doesn't go the dry powder route. Overall a complex and beautiful fragrance that I am sure will be polarizing-- my favorite kind. Some will not like this as it isn't the usual fruity/floral rose that is more popular these days. It's Middle Eastern in style for sure so if that's your thing you won't be disappointed.

First of all I would say please disregard any comment that says this does not have rose in it (they may have bad batch or a fake) because rose is what hits first in it. And it smells supper natural. This has only a few notes and I can pick all of them plus more for things that might not have been listed. This is one of the most beautiful interpretations of rose I have ever smelled. The smell is like if you are passing by a rose garden. It is very nice and fresh but it won't go too deep that smells like rose water which I don't like at all as a fragrance note. Then wood settles in which is again beautiful atlas cedar smell and very natural. And saffron is the one that if you know how it smells you will pick it up otherwise you will pick it up as a leathery note and marries the other two together. Overall, although I was not holding my hopes high since this was a rose fragrance but now that I have it and smell it, I love it. It's different from any other fragrance that I have ever smelled or have. Give it a try if you like to experience a beautiful interpretation of rose.

Rose/saffron dominant, rose especially in opening. Not very oud-y, although it has a woody "oud-like" vibe. Most "oud" perfumes don't really have oud, just a combination of notes that create that smell and this has that. This is a very safe bet for rose/saffron lovers. Lots of saffron. It has leather but it is well blended and doesn't shout "leather" but it is definitely there. This is almost like an Arabian perfume "light". It isn't light by any means but isn't AS strong as perfumes of this type tend to be. But it definitely has plenty of strength. But more wearable for people who don't like the blow you out of the room rose ouds. Seems like it would be a good starter fragrance into the middle eastern style. Bottle is nice, nice heavy metal cap, but ruined by the paper label. Not sure what they were thinking on that. It should have been metal. It ruins the entire look and feel of the bottle. Other than that, no real complaints. Nice fragrance.

This was mentioned by someone who I find to have excellent taste as a good choice for people who can't afford Amouage's Lyric, so I decided to throw a bottle in my Middle Eastern Ebay basket. I'm quite glad I did. It opens with gorgeous, rich saffron, smooth spices and dried rose petals. The heart is lush, smoky, spiced, subtle rose on a base of cedar, wood and a very light handful of patchouli. Everything about this is subdued - no screechiness or loud notes. It's a rose fragrance that any man could easily wear as well as a woman. Rose Malaki smells quietly wealthy. Sillage on me is moderate for several hours and then soft for several more.

The first blast of this smells a lot like Aramis calligraphy rose to me a sort of strong, jammy rose smell guess that must be the saffron and rose notes which are in both perfumes.The only difference I feel is that the calligraphy never loses the sweetness whereas Malaki settles into a lovely cedar,woody base I swear I smell oud, not intense but there all the same even though it's not listed.This is certainly unisex it's not too girly a rose and as I say becomes woody.It's a nice woody though and I really enjoy it just wish I got slightly better longevity.Other than that this is a beautiful creation!

Rose with Oriental Touch. I love the Malaki series and this is my type of rose. Deep, rich, jam-y, velvety, and not airy at all. it’s only have 3 notes component, but produced complex scents. A sweet woody rose with an oriental touch. Opened with sweet and little spicy from saffron, then come the prominent rose, specifically Damask Rose, and turn into beautiful dry down of cedar wood. Such a unique combination from nose Amandine Clerc-Marie. The Malaki series from Chopard is a must have item from fraghead and collector. Save yours before it’s discontinued.

Blind bought this. When I first got it, it was very metallic and leather heavy and I smelled no rose at all. Hated the way it smelled and thought it might be a miss. Let it sit for a month, the beautiful and semi-dark rose came out and it has become my recent favorite scent. Sadly it does not last on my skin at all, six sprays and I'd barely get 2 hours, if that. Does not project either. I just bring the bottle with me to work and keep reapplying every two hours LOL has not choked anyone at work yet so we know miss thing does not project.

This is such a lovely rose, woody, sweet fragrance. Initially I thought it had oud because it has the metallic vibe I smelt in Swiss Arabian's Inara Oud. I like that it is a smooth, refined fragrance and lasts a long time. It's not at all heavy or headache inducing. The box describes this as a masculine scent but to me it's squarely unisex. I picked this for a song in the women's section without reading the story on the box so whoever packed the shelves thought it's femme leaning.

Syrupy yet airy rose! I can't get enough of this fragrance. I love it! Though I have to say that the rose isn't that prominent. But that's what make this fragrance wearable for men. Not an outright rosey fragrance, but it's definitely there! The only problem with this fragrance is its longevity (Average longevity at best). Always happened to every fragrance that I like. But it's not so expensive, so I can reapply without having to worry about breaking the bank.

This fragrance is quite interesting - not everyone would like it. The opening is sweet and woody and a bit strong but give it 15 minutes to settle in and it smells amazing. The rose is subtle and smells rich. People in comments are hating but I'd give this a solid 8/10. Smells very close to Aramis Calligraphy rose but less strong on the rose side. This was a blind buy for me and it's a beautiful scent to wear as man on an everyday basis in the winter.

What a beauty! Rose Malaki is one of my favorite saffron+rose perfumes. There's a waft of sweetness in the opening from the exotic zest of saffron, giving over to a luscious blooming rose, and eventually drying down to a ambery wood base. It smells well rounded, expensive and very high quality. Easier to wear than many of the rose+saffron+oud formulas. Big love.

Wanted a rose focused scent, some how found my way to this, I could not be happier with the decision. The rose is masculine, wild, dark, and a sexy mystery lays throughout the life of the fragrance from start to finish that keeps you wanting more. This screams class, but also just well dressed night out. What a beauty

Très belle fragrance pour les gens qui aime la rose, avec un punch de bois de cèdre et du safran, il a bien tout pour plaire, c'est une gamme de parfum pas trop commercialisé, je préfère de loi la version OUD MALAKI pour les personnes qui ont le choix entre les deux mais ça reste toujours une belle fragrance

I love this rose-woody fragrance it's refined, well-blended, and sophisticated. I could be mistaken, but the opening notes of the rose remind me strongly of Oud Satin Mood by MFK. However, I prefer the dry down of this fragrance, as it leans more masculine and woodier, making it even more appealing.

It opens with a strong Saffron and elegant Rose combo. The saffron makes it a bit leathery. The Cedar base is very soft. The performance is not that great. It's a big like for me. I wish it was a bit stronger. But its nice for the colder months, evening wear. With a leather jacket.

Very woody, creamy sweet, and almost leathery - i can get a hint of rose but it is very faint. very beautiful in my humble opinion- and on your skin you will start smelling a more deep scent that has the power to turn heads- quite enchanting- I feel the warmth. 9,5/10

A sophisticated, dark, mysterious rose held together by very dominants notes of spicy saffron and cedar wood. These three notes are exactly what you smell the entire time. A seductive sexy fragrance that’s for sure. Not a jammy or fresh rose, a spicy one.

As Radical Rose is the same scent but with the performance cranked up to SCREAMING, this is a good, and much cheaper, alternative if you don't want to be grabbing everyone by the throat, shaking them and shouting ROSES M*THERF*CKER in their faces.

Ooooh my god this is so good. This is a daring smoky rose scent. All the woody, spicy, and ambery notes are revolving in such harmony with the rose. It has both elegance and attitude. I love it. Very unisex.

A good rose based fragrance with some funky oud and spiciness up top. First 30 minute get similar funky vibe as Hugo Boss Damask Oud.. a touch of ashyness as well.. quite bold and intriguing..

Amazing rose warm Oriental fragrance, becomes more soft and bit sweet with time. In beginning was not so but after time I loved it . you should try, if you like rose Oriental warm fragrances

Its Nice Beautiful Rose + Leather Fragrance .... not very strong or long lasting but its ok

I had the urge to buy this blindly, like I did with amber and oud but got to test it in a nearby Sephora to make a first impression. This is more similar to Love Chopard than Rose Calligraphy. By far not as spicy as rose calligraphy but not as sweet as love chopard, it sits somewhere in between being both airy and sweet. I find it perfect for an elegant summer night or a special occasion. Yes, it resembles it's bothers from the malaki line, but leans more feminine, while the rest can be worn easily by both men and women. I won't be buying this one since I already own something similar but it's a good start for somebody that wants to get familiar with rose scents.

This starts a strong smoky rose then settles to a tamed tobacco with a matured rose. It last at least 6 hours on my skin and longer on my clothing. It is not sweet or cloyingly sweet. It is worn by someone mature career woman. It does not smell playful or flirty. This is a serious scent. I wore it when I want to project a mature and bossy no nonsense woman. This is best worn late in the day towards night board meetings. I am an over sprayer but this only limits me to a maximum of three sprays on my clothing, otherwise I feel nauseous.

Despite the name, Rose Malaki as not as rosey as one might think. The smell is more of sweet woody amber with a background of rose. That sweet woody amber smell is characteristically oriental/Arabic. Safe & inoffensive. Sweet, ambery, saffrony, lightly woody. Honestly, I expected different. I expected more of a luxurious rose scent. Rose Malaki, while not a bad scent on its own, it doesn't deliver on the name it's given. Like.

I have Incense Malaki and love it so at first I thought there was incense in the mix, for Rose Malaki, but it isn't listed. There is some "metallic" element that is noticeable. I personally think it makes the rose dirty smelling. This is clearly a fall & winter scent and a good one. If I had to say which rose scents I prefer they would be Diptyques Oud Palao and D&G The One Mysterious Night. Oud Malaki will be next.

Surprisingly after 5 minutes, it smells smoke-tobacco on me, in a strong way. It is very different than any other roses that I have tried. Masculine vibe very prominent, and much appropriate to wear it in cold weather or night time. I would recommend smoking persons to try this on, you might like it.

This is a stunning rose scent! It's definitely more than just a simple floral though. The saffron adds a warm spice that makes it really unique and the cedarwood base grounds it beautifully. I get lots of compliments when I wear this.

A rose oud; goes on rose then dries down to a sweet woody oud similar to Raghba Wood Intense. It is woodier than Calligraphy Rose. The rose fades fast. It's only in the top.

great perfume with a rose scent yet still woody and suitable for men, the price is pretty cheap for such a good perfume to be honest

There are many frags I had to declutter, because they were just FAR too mature for me to pull them off.. And Chopard's 'Rose Malaki' is definitely one of them. I'm actually pretty bewildered at the 'this reminds me of' section as there are no votes for Lancôme's 'Oud Bouquet' or any of its famous clones. The best way I can describe 'Rose Malaki' is: Imagine Swiss Arabian's 'Shaghaf Oud' but the sweetness, gourmand stickiness is non-existent. The rose in this is very dry and not sweet...Same with the saffron, but you can really tell its there. IMO this is very classy, pleasant and doesn't smell synthetic at all. Now the drydown is where it loses it for me: I kid you not, it has the same super bitter oud note as Montale's 'Black Aoud', 'Oudamazing' and 'Tropical Wood' except far less powdery. And this overpowers all the other notes. Honestly it's just far too bitter for my tastes and took me by surprise the first time I experienced 'Rose Malaki'. I do love leather as a note. I didn't give this a full dislike as maybe this would smell nice on much older men, maybe in a smart-casual setting. But on my skin it was just horrendous bitterness. Definitely try before you buy.

I think it is quite strange that Fragrantica describes this as ”for women and men”, since it says on the box that it is a masculine fragrance! Though, I, as a woman, am quite ok with using it for myself. I like woody and leathery fragrances, and this has a honeyed rose as well. I can very well use it on its own, but sometimes I might layer it with something more feminine. I like that it is not too strong, like some fragrances of this kind sometimes can be. And I agree that it is of very good quality. But in my votes, I put it as ”more male”. And it is a ”like” for me, not a ”love”- for that same reason. On a man: I would love it. Edit: I have found out, that this does not reason so much with me at all. It is a good quality fragrance, though.

This is the same as the Amber Malaki with the addition of an extremely faint rose. You can’t offend with this ‘cuz it’s quiet - and it totally sucks. It sucks all the joy out of hoping for a good scent profile. If you like rose perfume, stick with what you already enjoy ‘cuz this doesn’t offer anything new or intriguing. It’s affordable - aka cheap - for a reason.

I usually adore rose fragrances but this one was a disappointment- the saffron is too strong, quite annoying and smells on me like I am burning. This is my first rose disaster for quite a long time. Longevity - questionable, projection - great, scent - awful

If you’re looking for rose smell you will not find it in this perfume A bit overpriced for what it is. Very generic and chemical.

I bought this based on the ratings and the reviews, shifting my decision from Amber Malaki (I have a soft spot for Ambers) that seemed to disappoint. Rose Malaki is a nice perfume, it hasn't bent my brain, though. It is a rose, suede rose that has the best drydown but a very harsh beginning, in my opinion. Starts very very metallic: i should have guessed that from the cap that adorns the bottle: a gunmetal grey steel wristwatch strap: the opening of the perfume is that exactly, bold masculine harsh (the fougere phase, with fir, green notes and vetiver; a waft of fuel, too) and in your face. Too much for my nostrils. This first part is not ok with me. But then... Then you get the rose. A rose for the non-rose lovers. Not feminine, not green, not fresh, jammy nor airy: i would define it imperial. Deep, dark red, velvety rose, a gothic one, but delicate at the same time. The fragrance takes a totally different turn here, it's when it becomes tamed. It melds immediately with the saffron, and you get a soft, almost sweet leather, with those little metallic hints. I also smell 20 seconds of aoud, adding some depth, a little barnyard, but it soons disappears. Lovely. The drydown is the best part, for me. A soft, warm balsamic suede with the super creamy cedar note. Comforting, almost a skin scent. From wild beast to tamed... That said, it's a cold weather scent and to me, best suited for a gentleman, more for evening wear. Moderate sillage but great longevity. Think twice before blind buying, or test it.

It smells like rose sugar wrapped candy with incense. It has a synthetic feel with metalic notes. It doesn't compare to Dyptique or other niche brand because it's not the same quality at all. This is a bad designer with 20% natural ingredients when niche are at least 80%. Don't be delusional to think you can bargain a niche at 30€ at discounters (Lalique excepted). I tried a few times then I got rid of my bottle. I don't like the scent nor I recommend it.

it has nothing to do with Damask Oud from Hugo Boss. I can only smell roast sugar. Realy disappointed.

To put it simply, this is weird. I was expecting a sensual saffron and rose combo but instead got an unusual, smoky, plasticky or metallic smell. I say "or" because to be honest, I really do not know how to describe it. Despite what the straight-forward composition would suggest, this is not a safe blind buy at all.

I got a sneeze attack from wearing this. Probably from that super smoky note like someone just burned a log and poured water directly then threw some rose petals along with some Herbal Essences shampoo into it.

since when this fragrance smells like cartier goutte de rose?????????? this fragrance smells nothing like cartier that is so fresh & clean. It smells like its name malaki. We use this word in middle east to refer to anything not just fragrances that is so fine & luxurious, similar to stuff kings use like fine silk clothes, fine fragrances with precious ingredients, fine leathers & of course fine spices that are expensive like oud & saffron. I forgot how saffron smells cause I had & still have hard time buying things so I can't describe correctly how this fragrance smells but it smells really spicy like spices in amouage fragrances. I tested lyrical before, the one in dark red bottle & it smells somehow similar to this as long as I remember. The saler assistant last night suggested that I shouldn't take the first few sprayes that is wefting in the air & wait a few moment before judging, I even took the paper strip with me & it's sitting on my office desk. it smells like thick roses but not in a fresh way with some spices but the spices thar not the ones to sting your nose, you have to give this about half an houre to develop & completly settle. The paper strip is from last night & that's a really long time but that's because I woke up this morning really tired after buying so many things & getting home late, couldn't smell anything or take the time to sniff the samples I got home but tonight but anyway, most fragrances won't take long before the base notes reveal themselves.

Reviewing a bottle from 2023. Rose Malaki was launched in 2014. This is floral oriental fragrance. Opens with cardamon and soft leather. Papyrus adds an earthy green note and a bit of subtle smoke. I don't sense a metallic note which has been alluded to by others. Dark red roses soon seep in - you must wait for it. This is balanced with cedar, patchouli and sweet vanilla in the drydown. It smells like there might be oud as well but I think it is the Atlas cedar that gives this impression. Atlas cedar was used by the egyptians as an embalming ingredient - no promises on how well Rose Malaki will keep us preserved ;) Quality is very good. 3.5/5 Performance is at least moderate 4/5 Unisex- totally Overall an opulent leathery cedar rose fragrance. Best for a winter night by a fireplace with someone special. 8.0/10

I've not yet smelled the newest in the Malaki line--Black Incense--but I own all the others. Of that original batch, Rose Malaki bears an obvious relation to Oud and Amber. In that way, Musk is the odd one out. However, the reality is that Rose Malaki is the true step-child of the collection, and I say that lovingly. The most forward note of the Malaki series is usually the namesake of each fragrance--Oud, Musk, Amber. Rose, however, is close, but no cigar. I wouldn't say any particular note dominates Rose Malaki. Instead, it's a perfect blend of the warm cedar, leathery saffron, and jammy rose. However, the rose seems to hover effervescently above the saffron and cedar on my skin. I can't explain it. It's wonderful, and such a bargain.
