Tokyo Blue

The opening is weird but the drydown is like a combination of Prada L'homme and Penhaligon's George, on my skin. After wearing it a few times it clicked for me what the opening and mid reminds me of. A more natural version of Blue for Men Rasasi, which was my signature scent 20+ years ago. Each time I wear Tokyo Blue, I received compliments. It's also a very good performer as the base fixatives are dosed high. You can wear this in any weather and any setting. For someone looking for a one size fits all signature scent that is elevated in smell and performance above designer, this is a great option. In my time collecting fragrances I personally haven’t smelled anything like Tokyo Blue. This was a blind buy for me because it was on sale, and I’m blown away every time I put this on. I can smell the blue kind of DNA in here that’s common among masculine targeted scents, but the violet leaf and orris weave into something much sharper and greener. The dry down is powdery, which I normally don’t gravitate towards in a fragrance but it’s a beautiful touch here and very enjoyable. Definitely has shot up into my favorites.

Looking at the reviews below really just reiterates how subjective fragrances are to the individual. I LOVE THIS! I received a sample in another purchase and immediately added it to my next FB purchase. This imo is 100% unisex. I find it turns very sweet and powdery on my skin. The galbanum and orris note really shine through. Just imagine super clean skin and hydrated in the most natural, buttery rich body cream. Perfect for warm weather when you want to just feel clean and fresh.

This reminds me of my grandfather or dad. Is very old school with a super modern twist to it. Is just an amazing barbershop aftershave tonic. And last 8 hours. Wonderful... however is way to overpriced.

Very fresh and powdery. It is very well blended. I can pick out citrus in the opening then it melds nicely and quickly into the heart of violet and mimosa. The cedar and mimosa are ever present smoothing out the composition. But it stays fairly linear and leaves a fresh powdery trail. Completely unisex in my opinion, but I think it leans a little more male, not overly sweet. It reminds me of a high quality Shower to Shower smell or moreso Bvlgari Au the Bleu but longer lasting.

I know Tokyo Blue is a masculine targeted fragrance but I love wearing it. In fact, my husband and I agree it smells better on me than on him. Truthfully, I don’t love the opening but it develops into something special. The dry down makes me feel like I just stepped out of a luxurious bath filled with flower petals and expensive soap. When I initially smelled Tokyo Blue I thought I would end up giving the sample away. Now I’m considering a full bottle.

This does not evoke a cave, nor a winter twilight, not in Tokyo or anywhere else. It's a lot like Armani Code: A "soap that doesn't smell like soap." Office-y, drying down makeuppy. Like a viciously neutered Sauvage or Eros, or an un-casual and painfully self-conscious Blue Jeans.

If White Diamonds had a brother, it would be Tokyo Blue. I originally bought the discovery set and was most excited to try Tokyo Blue because of the name. I was extremely disappointed when I sprayed it on a testing strip. I know not to judge fragrances by testing strips alone, so I sprayed it on both my skin and clothing; I was even more disappointed. It reminds me of an old-school aftershave; very powdery and floral. It honestly smells like a more masculine version of White Diamonds. I can't see anyone under the age of sixty wanting to wear this. It's a very cloying and pungent scent. This is far too mature for the name given. When you think of Tokyo, you think of a younger, cutting-edge, vibrant vibe. This smells more like an old school barbershop or a retirement home. Given the name, the notes he chose should've more closely reflected it. Sake, bamboo, cherry blossom, matcha, lotus, Hinoki wood, wisteria, and yuzu are all synonymous with Japan, yet none of those were chosen for Tokyo Blue; a sorely missed opportunity. This is one of Chris Collins' rare misses.

Powder bomb with some freshness and florals. Simple to be quite honest. Longevity is not great being an extract. 6 or 7 hours with good sillage for about half of that time. It's a likeable but not loveable scent but at the pricepoint of $225 for 50ml I don't see many buying this,male or female.

Notes: Bergamot, Galbanum, Ylang-Ylang, Violet Leaf, Orris Root, Mimosa, Rose, Orange Blossom, Musk, & Cedar. This one opens up strange in my estimation. Everyone might not like it for this reason, however, do give it time. After the first 5 minutes or so, this fragrance gives off a nice, sharp almost green effect, although no green notes listed. Perhaps, this is due to the Violet Leaf, but with some Musk, Cedar, Bergamot, Mimosa flavor. Very powdery as the note breakdown above says. Once this fragrance dries down, I am reminded of a slightly bitter Reflection Man, again once the dry down has settled. It is along that genre at least, NOT AT ALL THE SAME but just a reference point. Another fragrance that comes to mind is Armani Black Code, that powdery musk, however Toyko Blue doesn't have the strong musk flavor that Armani Black Code does. (Again, this is Armani Black Code, not Armani Code, these are IMO, two very different fragrances). A decent fragrance, however this does not have that wow factor for me. Because I have had Reflection Man in the collection and Armani Black Code, I don't think it is advantageous to purchase this one although IMO a fine fragrance to have! I have smelled them all and, in my estimation, I can say that most of Chris Collins' fragrances are decent in silage, performance, longevity, scent trail, etc.

If you're tired of all the patchouli bombs out there, give this a try. It's powdery without being dry, if that makes any sense. It's a drenched, waterfall spray of violet and orris root, refreshing compared to its oft-geriatric flower buds. Quite unique in the niche world. It had excellent longevity on me, becoming a skin scent on the arms at 8 hrs, on the torso at 12 hrs. Tokyo Blue would make a good gift for anyone who likes fresh & clean scents, of any age. Don't be deterred by the word "animalic" in the description, it is not at all.

Powdery violet, iris, and mimosa with clean white musk and fresh rose. A slight balsamic camphor vibe from the galbanum. This is a very powdery fragrance that can be worn by both men and women. I am not sure why this is targeted towards men, but I guess it does have a modern barbershop structure. A very nice and unique powdery fragrance composed of high-quality accords. This one might be bottle-worthy.

Lovely rose blooms out of this in the mids. The note pyramid is all kinda jacked up thanks to the fragrantica hivemind. The initial spray is balmy and blue with orris painting a sort of thickness across the palette. It’s almost aquatic but this does fizzle off and what you’re left with is a musky floral woody thing that leaves a gorgeous wake. This will be fabulous for Summer.

I am getting A LOT of rose, galbanum and even maybe geranium but maybe I am imagining it. A very fresh, vegetal, vintage rose. Clean powdery orris, bitter green galbanum, yellow florals, and sharp violet characterize this scent. Pretty nice, but the sharp bitter facets aren't my favorite. I can see how this would really appeal to people, and I think it does what it dies very well.
