Quasi una absurdia

One of the most beautiful floral perfumes of any era, and far and away the best lily perfume I've ever encountered. This was the first perfume that I tried from Chris Rusak and I was astounded -- you could have easily told me that it was a vintage sample of something composed by François Coty. Quasi una absurdia is a truly remarkable scent from an exceptionally talented perfumer.

Quasi Una Absurdia is a classical floral at a picnic in the park, having a glass of wine with her friends. QUA is joyous, witty, and a delight to wear.

Not the kind of thing I usually fall in love with: a powerful, old school lily, something of an old Guerlain, a slightly over-perfumed auntie, with a very present animal note. I have a deep reticence for this kind of combination, and an expert in the genre would certainly understand the whole picture better than me. It's interesting that Rusak also fell into this type of pattern, alongside with other extremely modern achievements. Anyway, it's very intriguing, very well done, a little trip back in time, an olfactory time capsule on a square centimeter of your wrist. To be discovered by those who particularly like this kind of notes, or who are just interested in the work of this character. This is worth the discovery. Whatever my personal appreciation of this composition is, the general aesthetics of these perfumes are very moving to me, and I'll advocate for Chris Rusak to pursue his creation.

An old school creamy floral fragrance, with a hint of animalics. Probably inspired by classics like Caron Nuit de Noel and Guerlain Metallica. It probably will never become Rusak's flagship fragrance. Still, very nice, and for sure rounder and more balanced than other indie floral frags (Rogue Flos Mortis not to cite it). Recommended, but not the most quintessential of Rusak's offering imo. A like for me, downgraded to just ok given its price, that might seem a bit steep given its average performance and non uniqueness. Spring/Fall days, woman 20+ (men 30+)

I smelled and wore a ridiculous amount of perfumes last year, but Quasi una absurdia easily ranks as one of my most memorable and favorite fragrances of 2018. It's fantabulously sweet and shamelessly animalic upfront, like civet bubblegum, and then gradually segues into this languid and glamourous accord of florals and dry, resinous, musky tonka--all clutched pearls and fainting chaises--that brings to mind a 21st century L'Heure Bleue. Added to that, there's this crisp, almost moist mint that tapers through the background like a chilled morning mist burning off in the sunrise--a sliver-thin conceptual nod to Apres L'Ondee, perhaps? Quasi una absurdia is retro-familiar yet refreshingly modern, a contemporary queering of perfumery's past, and so dang good it's just...absurd. (Sorry, sorry, I couldn't resist. I'll see myself out for that last one.)
