Buen Camino

Lavender, incense, and some spiciness thanks to star anise makes this a unique scent to wear. The lavender plays with immortelle to create a polysporin like scent, or maybe it's Band-aids. The drydown has more incense and spice and the perfume eventually wears closer to the skin. There's something about the quality of it that reminds me of vintage perfumes, but I know that it smells like nothing I've tried before. It's that there's not an overdose of ambroxan or musks in it, so you can wear lots of it for that blast of medicinal lavender, but it never overpowers or feels like it's too much. Sillage is average, longevity is easily 8 hours. Unisex too.

This stuff is amazing in any season, but i especially love it in spring. It’s quickly becoming my most sprayed fragrance. It’s beautiful but has a grotesque underbelly, it’s uplifting but melancholic. It makes me happy to be alive, happy that such complex things exist in the world. I decided to wear it on my wedding day. Because at its core, any lasting relationship is a long, challenging journey with highs and lows and bumps and bruises along the way, but those things just make reaching the destination that much sweeter.

Sharp, eclectic, and electric to start, calms to a smooth spice with a latte backbone. It took me a few wears before it finally clicked with me. My first wear, I got an oppressively sharp asphalt, but on subsequent wears that became smoother, sweeter, and I was able to smell more and more of the beautiful composition. I love Carter’s use of creative compositions to convey story and place, truly a wonderful creation!

Buen Camino is a clever interpretation of the perfumer’s narrative, evolving through a fascinating reflection of the environment and landscape; for me it contrasts hurt and suffering with gentle waves of soul-soothing compassion and healing, never flat or one-dimensional - really lovely work. This made me say wow. It smells like tea cakes with lavender sugar and a freshly opened package of instant coffee. The immortelle plays really well the with lavender, lending a honeyed hay note. There is lots of dry spice and really elegant edible notes, like Musc Ravageur's quirky cousin.

Absolutely stunning one of the best releases from 2020 and this is the best new brand from last year very excited to what comes from Carter in the future. This one is different but not as challenging as the description makes it sound I find it's very pretty on my skin.

I can appreciate the concept behind Buen Camino. I so smell the bandage wraps and the antiseptic meant to be evoked by perfumer Carter Weeks Maddox. There is a sizable presence of both immortelle and lavender, too, and the Galician almond cake, the dryness, the dustiness, the blood, sweat and tears. Yes, mission accomplished. It does remind me of the otherworldly scents of Santa Maria Novella, which unlike Chronotope, are left without themes but rather blank slates on which the wearer/appreciator can paint onto it their own narrative. This is totally a "me" problem, but its hard for me to divorce myself from such detailed narratives, and I kinda wish I wasn't imagining the broken bones and nursing back to health, and every image laid out before me. That said, it's a nice effort.

Resinous (camphorous?) open. A little animalic. I do sort of get sweet asphalt. I didn't get lavender, particularly. The immortelle, I think, is sort of haylike and honeyish. This fragrance projects a lot. It was not really for me, and I wound up scrubbing. Too bad - it sounded so interesting.
