Agua Fougere

#1495 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a decant from ScentSplit. For me a nice fougere is dress code for a suit and tie office. You wear something you'd wear clubbing into a C-Suite meeting and and everyone starts looking around for the intern wearing it. Every few years I pick out a deserving kid to send to college and we have "that conversation." "No, a neck tattoo is a really bad idea. You'll never make it out of the warehouse." "No, that bull-ring in your nose doesn't make you look artistic and creative." "No, you don't want to wear that Pierre Cardin you got at Rite-Aid for $9.99 a liter to the office, or anywhere else, ever." But a quality fougere speaks volumes, especially in a board meeting full of bankers. My numero uno among fougeres will probably always be Dior "Eau Sauvage Parfum," especially in this price range. But this one is pretty good, and I just ordered a bottle. A moderate performer that leans conifer. I'd put it alongside a classic like Houbigant "Duc de Vervins L'Extreme" for when you want "more mossy" and this Claus Porto for when you want "more pine." This isn't pricey at $135, and I would choose the Dior "Eau Sauvage Parfum" over this if you don't already have it. And there are inexpensive alternatives, like Jacques Bogart's "Bogart", "Bogart Pour Homme", "One Man Show Emerald", and even Paco Rabanne "Paco Rabanne Pour Homme." Yeah, all nineties stuff that will come off dated and dad juice at a family picnic, but works it in suit and tie. This is carpool, elevator and small office safe. Completely relaxed and inoffensive. Fine for date wear, especially for guys forty and up. Good luck and good hunting!

this is how i like a fougere, its fresh but has a under tone that shows its going to stand out. its not over done with lavender or coumarin(dont get me wrong i love those two vital ingredients when it comes to a fougere) but you really get the freshenss in this one. i feel it took time for this to settle, I used it for a few weeks and then left it for a few months and it either improved or my nose and memory remembered it and it like it more. a wonderful, masculine fragrance without being over powering.

This is basically Musgo Real as a parfum with a bit more piney bend to it. Strong, sharp, dry, classy, classic... I cannot get enough of this scent. This is unapologetically masculine, old school and a beast. Lasts the whole day!

This is a very masculine and classic smelling scent, without coming across too old school. Despite the name, this really doesn't resemble a fougere in my opinion, nonetheless it is a nice smelling green/woody fragrance. The opening is reminiscent of the opening in Frederic Malle's French Lover, with the he pine and geranium really dominating. The similarity to French Lover comes and goes very quickly though and the fragrance transitions to a more woody/resinous dry down, with some mossy facets. In the mid and dry down, the fragrance falls into Terre D'Hermes territory (the wood/resin dry down of TdH). It's not a clone by any means, but I feel like this could be passed off as a flanker in the TdH line. Performance is mediocre. I get about 6 hours of longevity, but the projection is on the weak side unfortunately. I really wish the opening lasted longer because that is where Agua Fougere really shines. 7.5/10.

I bought this at a Claus Porto shop in Lisbon a couple of years ago and then -- probably because it was at the beginning of my fragrance journey and I was seduced by more glamorous perfumes -- I forgot about it. I went back to it today, on a warm summer day in NYC, and I'm finding it lovely. It manages to convey the memory of a coniferous Portugal forest without the room-freshener association that pine scents often bring. Bracing, yet soothing. (I think the geranium accord smooths it out.) The only drawback would be that, as a cologne, it doesn't last very long.
