Clean Rain

This was my first “big girl fragrance” years ago when I had just started college. I am not into soapy freshies and back then was a fruity only type of gal so I felt this was my first break away from the VS body sprays and Rue21 perfume lol. This fragrance is still lovely to me and a great aquatic dewy melon scent plus I am a huge fan of melon. It doesn’t smell like rain no, but, I do think it can be unisex and appeal to those who love sweet/fruity scents but want to try something fresh. Doesn’t have the best longevity but since I see its very affordable now I still give it my seal of approval. I actually tried Mac Turquatic and felt like it was a watered down version of Rain, it also reminds me of Acqua di Gioia and is the reason I don’t own that fragrance as I preferred the added melon note in this (definitely over D&G L’Imperatrice I get the melon but its not my favorite) I see people hating on this so maybe I’ve got a weird nose but I don’t see it leaving my collection.

I might be in the minority here but this is love to me. Maybe it's impossible for me to review this scent objectively as the second I smell it I am transported into my childhood memories - it smells exactly like a wet garden does on a summer day in my home country Finland. It reminds me of my late grandma's garden at her cottage where I used to play a lot when I was young. It's that serenity of the moment after rain. It's a very aquatic fragrance, you can almost feel the weatness when you wear this fragrance. It is a very simple fragrance after all, but just so masterfully done that I have no complaints, at all. Unexpectedly, this has become one of my favorite fragrances. I love love love it. The only thing that sort of made me ponder about getting this first was whether I want to smell like a wet garden or not, but I have know realized that I definitely do. I whole heartedly recommend this fragrance, though it is not a very 'perfume-y' perfume .

So I will start off by saying that this brand is my jam! Fresh fragrances are y thing, so a line called CLEAN spoke to me! For my review-yep it’s clean and fresh it’s melon, and I saw some likening this to Happy Hearts and Green Tea Cucumber (funny enough two of my personal favourites) and I can see where that comes from, the melon and aquatic notes are there for all three of them. So what I am a bit confused about though is this-Last week I ordered a roller ball layering set with I think six from this brand -rain included- and then I decided I would purchase the full size bottle of spray 60mls of Rain and the two almost seem to be different, like the longevity and potency were better in the roller ball then the spray. I did just get the bottle delivered about an hour ago so maybe I’m having an off day or something I will check back in a few days but I just wanted to put that out there

clean shower, soapy, melon-y, sweet-ish juicy smell. feels a bit early 2000s, think frutiger aero without the metal-y ness. it absolutely does not smell like rain. no dampness, no earthyness, no dustiness. i adore it despite its misleading name. sprayed it once at sephora when i started my fragrance journey 3 years ago, a little disappointed it lasted maybe 30 minutes. couldnt get that juicy refreshing, but not too sweet, smell out of my head. came back a month after, sprayed it again to confirm i was ready to buy, only to be confused as to why it gave me a headache immediately. i realize that this shitty imposter had the same name but was clean RESERVE instead. sephora stopped carrying the clean classics. i searched far and wide online only to find it discounted at a winners. it's so precious to me and my bf will steal a few sprays when he wants a neutral clean and light scent.

Wow! This took me aback. If you simply inhale without looking for or picking apart notes this really could be something after a good rain. I fell in love with the freshness, the sweetness, the sheer way you can almost taste some of the melon notes. AND, AND (this never seems to happen with light fresh fragrances) it has awesome staying power. I put this on and still had it lingering eight hours later. I got Rain as part of a three rollerball set and it was handsdown my favorite. I purchased Kate Spade's Walk On Air a few years ago hoping it would smell just like this ironically enough. I do blind buys a lot based on notes and I'm so glad I did that here. It's not going to be a signature, but definitely one that gets a lot of exposure. Edit~~~~ I ate my words. This has become a signature scent for me. It's just easy to wear. Easy to choose, not expensive, non-offensive. Perfect.

my new signature scent. so refreshing, crisp, and bright. complex enough to wear alone but great for blending as well........ in love. i was worried about this not being a 'realistic' rain scent (i'm a big demeter fangirl) but this still captures that cool, aquatic, airy feeling so well. definitely heavy on the melon, which might not be for everyone, but it isn't a particularly fruity or sweet scent by any means, which is exactly what i look for in perfume. super refreshing. almost a no perfume type of scent. have i mentioned how refreshing it is yet? it's so refreshing. refreshing refreshing refreshing. like walking through a field of daisies just after it rains. obsessed. will be buying a full-sized bottle. would jump into a pool full of this stuff if i could. it's perfect

I have had a really good first impression with it and it made me love the whole brand. Imagine being late somewhere, in a smelly bus on a warm day. As soon as I smelled my wrist (yes the projection is more intimate which i dont mind), all my anxiety went away and I felt like being in a forest feeling calm. After that I was hooked. Edit. After trying to understand it and wear it lightly (it lasts a good while), I was disappointed to find that on both me and my boyfriend it has this lingering "humid bitterness" mixed with a faint sweet melon. I will agree with another commenter that it reminds me of Green Tea by Arden on the bitter (tea?) aspect. I really like aquatic and fresh aromatic smells but I can't get over the bitter drydown.

My mom gifted me a mini rollerball and it's perfect as a quick pick-me-up. Very aquatic, fruity and lush! The interplay of notes first tricked me into believing there's some coconut water in here, but no. :) Dry-down, as others have stated, is more musky with a pinch of the melon and water lily remaining. Uncomplicated, addictive and fun - really like to roll this on my wrists, first thing in the morning, to wake me up. Smells like sunshine and fun times!

This is pure love for me, it smells exactly like the mist on grass after short summer rain in my country home in Finland. Takes me back to my childhood when you would run outside to the rain, when the sun is still shining and the rain drops are just refreshing and almost glittering. I always repurchase when I'm running out. I like to wear this on the rainy days, when I want to smell like the rain without actually running outside to get myself wet lol.

It’s my favorite perfume for now, I use it daily! First of all, I wanna say that it’s long-lasting: I use it at least 300 days a year and I spray it 3 times, and I had just gotten past half of it. To me, it’s very sweet, aquatic, fresh and flowery. I don’t feel any melon, but it’s okay cuz I don’t like melon. It’s more of fresh roses and wildflowers after rain. Though, it does not smell like rain at all. I feel like fresh laundry (in a good way)

This smells really lovely, clean, and fresh. It reminds me of freshly washed and still wet hair. While this does have a very noticeable melon note, you also get an aquatic floral background that keeps this from being too sweet and one dimensional. It is really light and clings to the skin, so it’s perfect for those situations where a strong scent is inappropriate.

I find this very unique non parfumey scent. While this is aquatic and fresh it still have some deepness and softness. I find this very comforting scent to put on before sleep. When sniffing this i can imagine dewy dim leafy natural garden around a pond after thunderstorm when air is fresh and ozonic. Melon is defidetely detectable, but it does not bother me.

The brand says it all, this is the most cleanest perfume I have had so far. I really like the clean and fresh perfume that without any musk, wood, and vanilla tone.The smell just make me feel very relaxing and not so obvious. However, I do not think it smells like RAIN, and did not stay long. Overall I love it so much!

CLEAN Rain is a sweet aquatic. Cool, ripe cantaloupe and fresh lotus flower with a clean musk undertone. This is nothing “fancy”, but I think that is what appeals to me so much about the CLEAN brand fragrances. This is a simple; pleasant scent that is great for everyday wear and I get compliments on it too!

I tried this on in a little perfume shop and loved it immediately, but I ordered it online to get a better price. It's finally here and it was worth the wait. It's fresh and amazing. Sorry, I'm not good with scent descriptions. ;) I also have Deneter Rain and this is completely different.

Clean, sparkly, fresh, ozonic, aquatic, burst of energy and splashes on water right in your face, it is good if you like everything water. It gives the familiar swetness with the presence of narcissus in it. I love the melon note. It is a freshier version of Issey Miyaki.

This was my first full size perfume and is still one of my absolute favorites. Even as I've been getting more into perfume with other luxury and niche scents this remains a favorite. I wouldn't say that this reads rain to me necessarily, it more just reads wet.

rain is my favourite out of the entire clean line ( others can be quite nauseating) it is a strong melon sent that mellows into a green fresh scent this is a dupe for the wild bluebell from jo malone:) i use them together to get the best out of both perfumes.

I got the Classic Rain and since they don’t have it in Fragrantica database I’m gonna leave my review here. A sweet aquatic scent that’s musky & fresh. Sweater weather type of perfume! Captivating but soft at the same time. I love it ❤️

This one really captivates the fresh, delicate scent of a garden full of white flowers that has been watered by a refreshing summer shower on a hot day. A lovely and serene fragrance for women of any age, simple but yet so beautiful.

I love this. It's so clean but floral and watery. Reminds me of my Waterlily deodorant, which is a fantastic thing, as I love clean and fresh scents! This is beautiful and I'll be purchasing a full bottle for daily use.

Clean and pretty. Absouletly nothing offensive about this scent. From first spray to 6 hours later it smells great. Exactly what I've been looking for. This is my new signature scent.

Delightful. Makes me think of the 1990’s but fresher. I enjoy spraying this together with the discontinued Aerin Waterlily Sun. Just lovely clean and not overly sweet.

Smells like a wet garden after a summer rain. I clearly get a melon note, but it's understated and the overall impression is just clean and fresh.

Lovely lightweight classic aquatic. Dries slightly astringent but not bitter. Great for me as a lightweight fragrance fan.

Watery aquatic melon. Reminds me of AE Aura from the early 2000s.

Looove it! Prominent melon note

This is the biggest, strongest burst of aquatic melon. This really reminds me of Cucumber Melon from Bath and Body Works even though this has no cucumber in it as a note. But I get absolutely NO floral in this whatsoever, not even in the dry down. I really wish I did, I’m not sure if it’s my body chemistry or what but I don’t get that floral even when sprayed in fabrics. Speaking of fabrics, this is one durable mother. I sprayed this when I first got this and a week later, I can still smell it. The thing is, spraying it on fabric is a risk for me. I don’t know what causes it it but sometimes the fragrance will change to this weird, rancid melon smell that can only be described as a cucumber melon lotion I had that was 6 years too old and the fragrance inside it went bad. I 100% recommend layering this with something. The back of the box it came in even recommends it and honestly it works so much better that way. It’s perfect for the base mostly because it’s so durable, and it goes perfect with any aquatics or florals. I like this and I definitely am going to use this once spring rains come because it really conveys the vibe of wet freshness, but not quite “clean rain.”

2024 update: Still a lovely scent but name is misleading. It’s definitely a fresh scent, but doesn’t smell clean or like rain. It’s all melon. Sprayed three sprays this morning and can still smell it 10 hours later. Moderate sillage, actually pretty strong for a freshie. Generally a safe office scent imo, I can’t imagine this being too offensive with a couple of sprays, melon is a relatively mild scent imo. Original 2021 review: Lovely, simple, clean scent that is perfect for summer. Refreshing and perfect for any casual occasion. I really love the melon! This scent sits very close to the skin, and ideally I wish it had a little more sillage. But at the same time, this isn’t really a scent I reach for if I’m trying to get noticed so it’s not the worst thing in the world. It does last a good 3-4 hours though! Price is fine, personally I think it performs a lot better than Light Blue, and both of them I would reach for under similar circumstances. But this is less than 1/2 the price! Definitely a perfect summer fragrance to keep in your collection!

Smells like melon! The question is, do you want to smell like melon... Don't get me wrong - I have a bottle of this and I like it, especially on a hot summer morning. It is fresh, sweet, lush, juicy. However, as someone here said it smells like a decaying melon and I must agree that there's some truth to it. It's not the kind of perfume I spray on my wrist and keep sniffing. I spray it on my body so that the general inpression is there but without having to smell it to closely. And I can never be sure if others around me like it or are wondering if there's a melon hidden under one of the tables. I must say that behind the strong melon it does really smell like a garden after rain. Perhaps it smells like rain on a field of melons. Longevity and sillage are good. But it would have been so much better with just 50% less melon in it!

I like almost everything about this perfume, the name, the colour and of course the scent, but first after 15 minutes or so. It starts with a very sweet melon note, to sweet for my skin. Then comes a green, grassy, refreshing smell - like a garden after a rain. Perfect. Definitely this perfume's best moments, but I like the way it ends too - with well balanced musk & waterlilies. I don't smell any cucumber though, and I don't miss it. It's nice. A lovely, light fragrance for the summer, if you wait 15 minutes! // Update, a few years later: Not a big fan of this scent anymore. Now I find it a bit too artificial tbh. Gave my bottle away. I used to love Clean Skin, Air and Rain - now I still really love Skin, don't mind Air and don't like Rain. Things changes.

smells like a wet garden of white flowers just after the rain with the dew still on the leaves. for me i smelt melon, watery aquatic notes, then a hit of *strong* daisies and white flowers, maybe magnolia, honeysuckle or narcissus. then it kind of stayed as a white flower scent with a hit of musk and melon. However in the opening top notes i also often got the pungent smell of plastic. a horrible smell like maybe melting plastic - not a burning smell, just a very chemical plastic one. i would have liked it better with addition of hints of grass notes, less white flowers and musk, more waterlily and aquatic notes. composition was too simple and linear. inoffensive but will not buy again. nice bottle though

At first it smells like a dewy field of flowers, still wet from some spring rain. When it dries down it smells like clean laundry hanging out in the sun, eventually turning into a pretty typical musky clean scent. However, the fruity melon note makes this quite special. On me, the melon note becomes especially noticeable once the fragrance settles into my skin and the floral notes mellow a bit. I feel squeaky clean when I wear this and I have gotten a lot of compliments on it. It's not as long lasting as the other two perfumes I have from this line (Warm Cotton and Fresh Linen) but it's my favourite so I don't mind reapplying it. One of my go-to spring and summer fragrances.

I’m on a hunt to find a perfume that smells like fresh air by the lake on a late spring afternoon. This is not it. I bought it because of trying out a sample of 5 Clean smells and Rain was the closest to what I am looking for. Sadly, the perfume has a slightly unpleasant undertone. It is probably the musk. I understand that it’s difficult to create a fresh scent based perfumes without heavier notes to extend their longevity. At this stage - I am tired of finding “fresh” smelling perfume only for it to settle either into a woody, ashy or straight up “rabbits a$$” kind of a scent. Plus, if a musk is there to extend this perfume’s longevity.... It’s not doing it very well.

Fresh, light, and as the name implies, clean. I got this one as I wanted something aquatic that reminded me of the smell after a good rainfall. This doesn't quite remind me of that, but it is nice. It's aquatic and actually pretty sweet, although my boyfriend said he wouldn't mind wearing it himself. I feel it would do well with a more grounding scent, like something woody, and a bit less sweetness. It doesn't last too long on me, so I have to re-apply a couple of times throughout the day. Overall I like it, but I do feel that it has a sort of body-wash or shampoo feel to it that makes it seem a bit over priced for what it is.

This smells exactly like rain air freshener from the dollar store. The melon really makes my nose angry. I dislike this so very much. My boyfriend likes it, which I just don't understand at all. Obviously we are both smelling it on me, so how is he liking it while I find it to be such a synthetic mess? It has a weird burnt rubber undertone on my skin. I'm starting to think that "fresh" smelling perfumes just don't work with my chemistry. I wish it really did smell like a garden after rain, wet dirt, flowers, ozonic air, herbaceous greens. If anyone knows a perfume that fits this description please let me know!

Call me crazy but this smells nearly identical to Garnier Fructis Wet Shine hair gel (green and blue bottle). Which is all good for me, because that hair gel smells awesome: fresh, youthful, clean and watery. Also very faint traces of sweetness. Clean Rain is definitely not a "natural" scent and it doesn't invoke any imageries of rain for me, but it's nice and pleasant regardless. Just not sure the price is adequate, at around 100€/100ml for such a simple and cheap smelling scent. Specially considering how weak the longevity and sillage are.

I actually like this scent as a blind buy. I didn't expect anything complex. I do think you could wear it lightly, even in a medical setting (people wear clothes washed in Tide...). Some have remarked it smells like grass. I was actually excited about this! It reminds me a in a way of Gap's grass from late 90s, early 2000? I don't want to replicate that scent, but this brought back some nostalgia. If you like clean scents, without soapiness, with some sweetness I would say give this a try. You can find it on discount sites.

It is a lovely and soft perfume. I bought it for the occasion of having a perfume that smells inoffensive and can be suitable on a daily basis without being suffocating or making a statement. As someone mentioned before, it does not smell like rain however it does have a weak aquatic note. I do not find it as a disadvantage, though as the scent reminds me of a melon scented shampoo right after a cool shower in the morning. All in all, a pleasant, fresh and sweet scent perfect for spring and summer.

Super duper soft, melon and aquatic notes. On paper it smells exactly like hair spray! On the skin it gives more of a water hyacinth vibe with the tiniest bit of musk. I could see this layering well with citrus and light floral scents. And it’s really inexpensive. I feel like this would be a really great first perfume for a teenager and would probably be a nostalgic scent for them as they get older, like how Calgon’s Hawaiian Ginger is a core memory for most millennials 😂

One of the few Clean perfumes that I like. It is fresh and serene. Aquatic. Smells also kind of like melon. I could have this easily to calm myself down or when I want to focus. It gives peace of mind Update: the latest drydown is pretty aqatic salty. Very similar to The Body Shop "Fijian Water Lotus". This salty Accord makes it not a rain scent to me. It lost some favour in my eyes.

I got this from my brother as a birthday present. I really like it! It ́s fresh and very good on a warm day :) Not to strong but I get a wiff of it now and then when I move. It does smell like flowers after rain and I can also feel a lot of honey in it, maybe the melon? The bottle is very nice in that green coulor and I think it suits the scent.

it starts off with a very very sweet aroma and the dry down is more musky but still very sweet. it smells more like rain in the dry down but i feel like i need more depth, like some patchouli or sandalwood so it can be more layered. it's like being walked to school in the spring rain, looking forward to seeing your favourite teacher.

Melon, soft musk, and another secret third thing (those fresh watery flower notes?) It smells really good for a few hours before fading away and is more of a skin scent. I just really love the melon in here. I agree with another reviewer who said it is similar to waterlily-scented deodorant. Like they said, that's not a bad thing!

Clean Rain Classic will always have a special place in my fragrance wardrobe because it's one of the few balanced, melon scents that don't smell like you bathed in a fruit cocktail. CLEAN excels in this, and for a time this was my signature scent when I was in uni. It made me smell fresh, lively and bright. I love it today still.

First note was stunning. Then stayed nice and a bit like Issey (the classic one) for a couple of hours which was very pleasant. Made me consider buying it. After that the magic was lost and I smelled the spoiled, sugary sea and aquatic notes instead. Another lesson after countless ones that you can't rush buying perfume.

Dew drops on a blade of grass. Slightly salty, almost tear-like. If I breathe deeply, there is a green quality to it and the softest note of lavender. To me, it smells very "round" and watery. I bought it for spring as a layering fragrance and I'm very happy with it. I wear it at night and during the day.

It's not my style but it's very pretty - a "cool" fragrance. The adjective "refreshing" also comes to mind and I can see this being a great summer scent for someone. I get melon, narcissus and musk with a definite aquatic note. This would be good for smelling fresh on a hot, humid day.

Others have said it better, but I will add my ‘two scents.’ This is so clean and fresh. Just lovely. I get a hint of lemon too though no one else mentioned this. It is a welcome change from the Escada summer scents I usually use. It lasts longer too. I will buy another rollerball soon.
