XXI Art Deco Cypress

I am really enjoying this fragrance. It's got many facets to it that one might not imagine a woody aromatic type fougere to have. I own Creeds Bois Du Portugal and 1872 by this brand and they both share common "accords" as XXI Cypress, but they are quite different as well, each in their own direction I might add. The juicy, sparkling, mouthwatering, effervescent citrus and petitgrain opening are something 1872 and XXI Cypress definitely do better than just about any other fragrance or even brand of fragrance has ever been able to achieve before. Clive Christian has definitely gotten that bright, juicy, crisp opening down better than anyone else in the market right now, but I admit I haven't yet had the opportunity to try Nio by Xerjoff. The part of XXI Cypress that bares the closest resemblance to Creeds Bois Du Portugal is going to be the late mid to far dry down and I must say, it takes a good while to get to that point. This fragrance is indeed potent, without ever becoming overwhelming at any moment. It endures on my skin for some 12 to 14 hours before finally becoming what I might consider a skin scent. I got a good, solid amount of projection for an easy four to six hours and a very beautiful sillage throughout the entire wear. The facets of this fragrance that others haven't explained in any reviews below, nor does the fragrance profile above show at all adequately are from right after the initial opening, to the late- mid and early dry-down, there are some unbelievably modern, aromatic, and even ever so slightly blue tinged aspects that make this stuff so unbelievably appealing that you simply cannot get enough of the scent. It has aspects or "fragrance profiles" that are a large part of the early- mid to late-dry down that resemble some of the most popular and common of the modern fougere's out there right now. The one that I find the most resemblance between the two would be Ralph's Club Parfum, with YSL's Y Eau De Parfum bearing the second most in common of the modern fragrances I've experienced. So don't imagine that this is something stuffy, dated or even retro in its feel because it is not! It is quite modern.Both classy, sophisticated, and yet sleek and stylishly modernized are apt descriptions, but they will still fall utterly short of being able to explain just how irresistibly appealing this fragrance is to smell, especially when the mid comes out, while those juicy top notes are still hanging around for a bit. My suggestion? TRY IT!!!

The definition of old money is this product. This product is of very high quality, even though I know that right before this, there is artisanal perfumery, I would rather tell you that I enjoy a perfume with a highly exceptional and harmonious balance in its notes more than certain 100% natural qualities and contrasts that do not shine as much as this perfume does. And the quality is not a topic to talk about in this product, because it has plenty, but honestly, the cypress is the most realistic thing I have ever smelled in my life, you can see that they took great care and used the appropriate ends to patiently carry out the process of harvesting and then, make a harmonious distillation of the ingredient and be able to have as a result the love of what is done with passion and dedication. This perfume is a masterpiece, it shows you that you are a person with many resources, but that you are not excited to show them, because you have class, you are not a fan of showing what you have, but the lifestyle you lead speaks for itself. Landing the aroma begins with citrus touches of petitgrain in a clear way that brings me memories of 1872 but in a fleeting way, because that only lasts a few minutes to give way to the star of this composition which is the cypress: green, clean, woody as if the tree did not have a scratch, and above all NOBLE, of what I have tried it seems to me the best Clive Christian perfume without a doubt, and it is one of the most expensive smelling perfumes that my nose has smelled.

A note before my review: Some have said they get very little cypress. I did not get much at first. But after my bottle got some air and breathed some. A high quality cypress note is very evident. I bought this for the cypress. It does not disappoint. Now that chilly Winter has come in PA, I love a crisp, green cypress smell. I 💬 k this may have the strongest realistic cypress note of any fragrance. It's like when you crush some cypress leaves in your hand, you get that here... I have vintage Italian Cypress, it's a top 10 fragrance for me. But the cypress note is maybe 1/3 of the Tom Ford "woody notes" with the cypress. I have never tried Floris 1962. I am looking on eBay for a purchase. None available at present. In this Cypress fragrance, they don't list all the notes, as they do on Basenotes. The heart is Cypress, clove, ginger and nutmeg. There is also basil note in the top notes. The nutmeg is the strongest spice here, sometimes competing for dominance with the cypress. I love Creed Boise de Portugal, but they are not close. Only in a general way, classic woody, manly. This meets my craving for a true realistic cypress smell. The spiciness dominated for me when I first tried it. But after a few wearings, the cypress seemed to become more appearant. 10 hours after spraying, it is still projecting strongly. The dry-down is a touch of sweet vanilla with the nutmeg and cloves. The cypress is still faintly noticable. Rating: 9/10 God bless, and happy New Year. John 3:16.

I like it. I dont love it. There are good points - the spice notes (nutmeg, clove, ginger etc.) are the best I have ever smelled. The overall scent is generally nicely put together and jazz club classy. The bold, thick citrus vein that runs through it has this juicy fresh lime quality that stands out. But: I find the base to be this sort of thick, indistinct amber mud with some kind of wood goop mixed in, which is surprising - the base/drydown is an area where I thought this would shine. Although this is a bit un-fragheadish to say , I actually think it would have been better at a 20% perfume concentration than the 25% that it is. Its too dense, kind of overdone smelling. As said below, it is like a more complex and regal take on Italian Cypress, buy I would rather wear the more focused and wearable Tom Ford. The performance is front loaded: too strong at first, but it tapers off fairly quickly. It does last a long time, unsurprisingly at that concentration. So yeah. Its good and all. But it seems like a gold plated, diamond encrusted garden trowel - overdone and blingy in a kind of slightly detracting way for the type of scent it is. I'd give it a B.

Very remarkable scent. The Noble collection by Clive Christian is probably my favorite in the entire house. Unfortunately, the scent profile listed here is lacking quite a few key notes that are clearly present in the scent. Top notes are citrus at first, bergamont clearly leads the way. Pettigrain follows, with a hint of basil. Very clean, crisp opening that's quite plesant Mid note is cypress with a kiss of clove, which makes it just a little bit spicy. I believe there is also some ginger and nutmeg in there too - though I am unable to smell these as clearly. Base notes: Amber and oakwood. Very nice, masculine drydown. Overall, this is a well-done scent with great longevity and silage. I'd describe it as woody, green, and fresh-spicy. The spice is not bad at all, or overwhelming. I am quite surprised by this scent and will likely always have a bottle of this in my collection. Definitely more suitable for evening and fall/winter. However, this is easily a scent that would do well in the spring time as well. Overall Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 8.5/10 Sillage: 8.5/10

I went to school in Lafatette Louisiana, there were a lot of cypress trees. We even had a small cypress lake with small aligators in our campus. After heavy rain, cypress leaves fell to the ground, were crushed when we stepped on them and released their fresh green herbal scent all over the place. I love this perfume from the first to the last smell. Cypress scent stays from the opening until the dry down. At the opening, the citrus top note makes it smell so real, like freshly crushed cypress leaves and then turns a little dryer after the top note is gone. Nevertheless, the herbal green woody smell of the cypress scent stays with us til the end, together with the nice warm sweet amber base note. I also tried Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo - Cipresso di Toscana, it is also good, more airy, but doesn't last as long. Jo Malone - Cypress & Grapevine Cologne Intense is also good, also more airy, however, the cypress scent is mixed with other things. If you want prominent cypress scent, Clive Christian is the one to go. Impressive, unique and long lasting

When I was younger, I did landscaping in Louisiana. I would use tractors and lawnmowers to keep up grounds by the lake, where cypress trees grow close to the water. You would have cypress "knees" arise out of the ground that would need leveled to keep the ground flat for mowing. The smell as you use a chainsaw to flush cut the knees to the ground, and then pass over the cypress needles with a mower turning them to mulch and aerosolizing the fragrant terpenes in fallen limbs and detritus. This is the closest you can get to a photorealistic version of that sort of smell, except with an added bit of refined, sophisticated amber softeness. This is probably the final boss for cypress lovers. Hinoki by Comme de Garcon is in 2nd place.

This is basically a modernized interpretation of the original Italian Cypress by Tom Ford. It’s a wonderful and refined blend of cypress, petitgrain, cloves, and oak wood. The cloves and the oak/cedar give off a Bois Du Portugal vibe which makes the overall scent smell luxurious, classy, and sophisticated. I love Italian Cypress and I love Bois Du Portugal — this beauty links the bridge between these two masterpieces, so what’s not to love?! There are notes missing from the pyramid above, the real notes consists of Petitgrain, bergamot, basil, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, cypress, oak wood, cedar and amber.

Clove. Lots of it. Very spicy on my skin At first, it hits as a cool-cold weather fragrance....there’s a spiciness to it that isn’t like a normal summer scent. As it dries, creamy cypress comes out and adds to the versatility. To me that doesn’t include hot daytime wear. Summer date night, Winter, Autumn, Spring anytime. Office would be a stretch but maybe if sprayed lightly. High quality. I only keep 10FB in my collection. This one’s there....for now.

Coriander and petigrain bomb 💣 Cypress and amber shows up later. Clive Christian does amber base notes VERY well, and this is no exception. As someone else mentioned, the value compared to the ingredient price is outrageous. But nevertheless, I cannot deny this is a great high quality fragrance regardless of what is in it. Long lasting and projection is great. Scent 7.8/10 Performance 8/10

This was a love at first sniff, having owned it over a year now I better write my thoughts. Probably my favorite Cypress based fragrance, there is just something above the rest. Although Italian Cypress is great I would pick this over it. This is elegant, bright, smooth and rich. That petigrain and amber really add the extra touch for me, I love this from start to finish. 9.5/10

I was wearing the original vintage Halston Z-14 this morning. At 4:00 PM I put on this CC Cypress. My first thought was this is more satisfying than Z-14 original made in France. Second thought: this is closer to Z-14 than Tom Ford vintage Italian Cypress. This has the most realistic cypress.

Beautifully done fougere warmed with sweet resinous amber. The use of the petitgrain enveloping you through the duration with a superb cypress accord makes this a stand out. Also the backbone of this composition is a refined nutmeg oil that persist throughout giving it a bit of a daring touch

Wearing this today for the first time in a while. First got a bottle in 2020. Still absolutely love it, my bottle had maybe 8ml left I will Saveur this. Will I buy another bottle. . Yep 100% 9.5/10 - half a mark missing for price tag wish it was a tad cheaper but it is valid. Great stuff.

There is no better perfume for men that this. A woman can wear it too, and it is stunning, hypnotic, addictive. Although it is very expensive, I think it is worth the money. I know, it is absolutely unnecessary and extravagant but It is ok to splurge sometimes.

This is a great, green, coniferous fragrance. Pure class. This blows Italian Cypress away. The scent cloud is amazing, both to myself and those around me. Welcome to my collection my new signature scent. Full bottle worthy for sure.

this is the best versatile perfume. masterpiece fr this is as good as blonde amber, but it's more wearable Ez top 5 calming, sexy, rich and sophisticated 10/10 (1872 is toilet water compared to this, idk how people compare the two)

Update after a few years: Still incredible. A super classy, high end and softer version of the OG Polo. BTW, don t mistake soft with weak. It is just a classier, higher end version. Amazing This is quite incredible and timeless.

I would pay a maximum of 200 dolars, because longevity is good but projection is moderate. beautiful scent though. mass acceptable scent, but 360 euros is too much for this one

Starting to enjoy my cypress and conifer frags for Fall. I reviewed this a while ago. But it is the most realistic cypress note. Floris 1962 is the best Cypress fragrance.

So, I can definitely see the comparisons to Italian Cypress and Bois du Portugal. XXI starts off with a sour accord for about the first 30mins. Throughout the life of the fragrance, you do get a good dose of cypress. Therefore, the fragrance does live up to it’s name. I will say this is better than Italian Cypress, but not by much. However, it’s not as good as Floris 1962, my all-time favorite cypress dominant fragrance.

Many people complain about the high price, but I think the XXI Art Deco Cypress justifies the high price. It lasts on my skin for about 4 h and has a moderate projection, but this is also the case with other fragrances from this house. This is incomparably better than Tom Ford Italian Cypress. Fougere fragrances are my favorite category and in my opinion this one is in the TOP 20 on the market.

Ok, IMO. I prefer Roja’s Scandal Pour Homme Cologne. It definitely has more than just petitgrain, cypress, and amber. I get a sweet and slightly watery fruit accord more prominently than cypress. Best cypress fragrance in my opinion is 1962 by Floris.

Unfortunately this reminds me of a shea butter/coconut sunscreen or bath soap at a timeshare resort. It has that rich, woody/coconut, soapy luxury product smell and feel with that minty sharpness. I would definitely think this is full of synthetics(albeit quality ones) as it has this chemical sharpness that literally stays at the tip of your nose in the beginning and mid. I could be wrong. The dry-down softens out and turns out to be similar to a very strong smelling shaving cream. The cypress is present throughout. I can see why this didn’t persist on the market. As a niche fragrance, I’m not too impressed with it. If it were a sunscreen or soap in a hotel, sure! Then again, it’s not my style of fragrance. On a separate note, as this collection of Christian's is the “noble” collection, I can see a king or queen of old wearing this type of scent. It has the richness that would fit that kind of setting, but possibly only that. I think it might be out of place anywhere else.

Wow, never expected to NOT like this fragrance. I am both a Clive christian and a cypress lover. Initially, I get a nice and photorealistic cypress note. Maybe a bit too realistic, because it is just like the tree (who wants to smell like a tree?). But the drydown is not only very soapy, but also old fashioned soapy. Like 90's bedroom linnen. Nothing exciting. Strength and sillage are good. Quality also. 6,5/10 Edit. it reminds me of Santos Sport (Cartier). Maybe that's why I have the 90's association.

Would have been one of the best cypress perfume if amber wasn't there. One of the most promising opening with most disappointed dry down.

Wow ! F-in wow ! I am pretty bummed that I like this one so much because I have an already excessive (in my opinion at least) collection and it retails for something like $550. So far I have rarely been able to find these special editions on any discount sites. I dont know if there are more notes or ingredients to this but somehow it is just the 3 ingredients listed above it makes perfect sense and the simple combination of the extremely high quality petitgrain reminds me of a cleaner less bitter bergamot or even an unsweetened yuzu, and when you throw the cypress in there they just work wonders together. The Amber which to be honest I have never been a huge fan of as it seems that most of the niche lines that use Amber use a lot of it to make a statement or at least to really make it the focus of drydowns, here it is an absolutely perfect compliment to the other 2 notes and just ties them together perfectly. I hate to use the word Soapy, but it just smells like the most luxurious soap I had never smelled in my life, and just clean, perfect for spring and summer. Every time I smell it on my arm it makes perfect sense that it is basically Orange, Cypress, and Amber but the combination just works incredibly well somehow. Unfortunately (for my wallet) Clive Christian has quickly became my favorite house and they really have been pushing the boundaries and using some unique ingredients and making them smell great. Although this one is relatively simple with 3 notes, they have art nouveau which uses papyrus and did a phenomenal job on that one also, they have X, they have a Rock Rose which was also a great fragrance, not to mention all their best sellers with a unique twist like Chamomille, and Water Lilly... To me a lot of niche houses try to do so but I usually find something off putting or feel I have to TRY to appreciate many of them. Although it's definitely not the main reason I/we do this, I think all of us like to smell good and be acknowledged for that and to have people compliment our taste in fragrances. I find that most of the CC creations just smell good period and I don't feel like I have to learn or find the good qualities in them, and typically they smell good from the spray through the drydown, yet most of them still with some great evolution... Great job Clive and Co. ! But please at some point stop putting such an emphasis on the the "exclusiveness" and continuing to raise your prices regularly. : )

Pleasant scent no doubt. Worth the cash? Hmm, not sure. Don’t blind buy. But it does smell sophisticated for sure. What I don’t get is the reviewers that say this is an old guy scent. Rich? yes. Old? No. I suppose nowadays people wear fragrances that smell like bubble gum and Diet Pepsi. Because this is NOT an old rich guy fragrance. It’s not for a 20yr old either. It’s more sophisticated. I don’t think people who make this claim about CC Cypress being old rich guy scent have any clue what they’re talking about. Ok, so like Acqua di Parma Colonia is an old guy type scent. Not this. (And even acqua di Parma Colonia smells great, although 100 or so years old). This is something someone like a rich patron might wear on an evening gala. Anyway, other things you should know about this so called Cypress fragrance is that it is NOT “beast mode”. Longevity is only 3-4 hours, and sillage is moderate. Maybe my stock formulation has been distilled. But that’s what I get. Nothing like, say, some Parfums de Marly bottles or some Creed fragrances. It doesn’t scream for attention. It is designed for close range influence. Also, in my opinion, this fragrance is unisex. It’s not as masculine as people say it is. Masculine would be like Creed’s Bois du Portugal or even Aventus, or definitely Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather. This,...is not heavy masculine. Still, this fragrance is NOT to be dismissed or taken lightly. I got my bottle at a heavily discounted price. But then again, I bought 3 other CC bottles with it (X,C, and 1872). So far, CC’s “C” is their best, in my opinion. Though I still haven’t properly test driven all of them. But, I say you should test drive all of CC fragrances today!

I've had this in my collection really since the beginning of my search for a signature scent. Since then I've tried over 100 niche high end and obscure scents. I've found some i really love, and I've been away from everything I own for about the months. Today I decided to go in my collection and try my favorites and see if my signature was in there. Today was Cypress's turn. All I can say is my search may be over, and I wasted(not wasted because I've learned so much) time looking when the truth was right under my nose. Cypress is everything I love with nothing I don't! It may not shout look at me from across the room. However, it will say look at me in italics to those that have the pleasure of getting within arms reach. The opening is even to me, it smells of a grand tree ripe with fresh citrus. Just amazing! It's not the oud smell that seems so trendy now, but it doesn't need that to seem expensive. It's so well blended with such high quality ingredients, nobody is mistaking this for anything but high end niche. You are not going to smell like anyone else. I don't know, don't really want to rant anymore about it. To me this is just perfection! You can @ me if you try it and disagree. Appears this was recently discontinued. Picked up a bottle for a fraction of MSRP, which it certainly isn't worth to be honest. However, price/worth is in the eye of the beholder. Super potent juice with its incredibly realistic and high quality cypress note. Projection and sillage is enormous, likely room filling. I think it smells very suave and sophisticated. My coworkers, however, disagreed. I gave at least one a headache, and my wife at home said this one is just "okay." I also had to take my car for in for service; the person who gave me a ride back from the dealership literally rolled the windows down most of the way back. Pretty sure I just had two sprays on (wrist and upper neck). Well, there's some general public opinions. As someone who's smelled probably close to a thousand fragrances in my collecting journey, I think this is great stuff and full bottle worthy, but that's as someone who can appreciate artistic scents. I didn't realize this was one, but evidently, it is. For this reason, I would advise to sample first and make sure those around you are good with it, so you don't end up surprised like I was.

This is exquisite. Once again I was positively surprised by this house, which leads me to a simple conclusion - do not believe everything people say, including reviewers. Every single fragrance I've tried from this house was spectacular. Tastefully composed and blended. When you smell this one thing that strikes you first and that is undeniable - this juice is high quality. I don't know the exact amount of naturals used in this, but its right at the top with Roja, Boadicea and other top-tiers. This is like a combination of few fragrances I know. Its kinda nostalgic for me, as it brings the memories of my grandma's old house. It's woody, aromatic, a little bit powdery, has just the right amount of sweetness to it. Its patchouly-heavy(don't know wny its not listed in the notes). The patchouly here reminds of Guerlain LIDGE, its dry, dusty and kind of minty. On the drydown the amber base comes out, but cypress and patchouli are still present. This is very elegant and can be worn year-around. Strong 9/10 for me.

Got a dabber sample from Lucky Scent. Very beautiful and "full" smelling woody fragrance, and it smells undeniably expensive. Sadly for me, my fiancé thinks it is awful. I'll buy the official 7.5mL travel size anyway because I like it. I don't think I'll ever wear this to the office, but this smells like a great winter scent. It is very mature--at age 25 it feels a little out of place on me. Longevity is great. Can't fully judge projection, but I imagine it projects well with fairly heavy sillage. It is quite an unique offering. At its MSRP, you can get about any fragrance you want, and there are many others that I'd rather have instead, both from Clive Christian and other brands. Don't get me wrong--it's nice, but I'm not head over heels like the others here. That's just because it's a lot more niche smelling to the point that it loses some mass appeal. For this reason, I will likely never purchase a full size bottle.

Hmm... Opulent, elegant, regal, classy, lavish, posh, sophisticated, etc... The quality here is some of the best I personally think I've come across on my fragrance journey. The versatility this fragrance has is unique, because you can wear this to a million-dollar business deal, or home with a nice white t-shirt on. It has no boundaries, and is truly unique that way. Additionally, I believe this is the most realistic cypress I've ever encountered in a fragrance. I'm uncertain where else you're getting better quality... Side note: At retail price, this is a laughable fragrance, and no fragrance will ever be worth that cost besides Jesus's very own musk. However, you can find this going for much cheaper at discounters/decant sites, and that makes it worth every penny. Signature scent worthy.

So, I don't know what's going on. I've got a decant from a reputable decanter, so I don't doubt the authenticity. Unfortunately, I get a strong baby wipes accord from this. I know this is just my nose, and in fact I get the same thing from xerjoff's 40 knots. I suspect it's a common aromachemical (perhaps related to the amber accord?) that is hijacking my brain. I'll continue to work through my 5 ml decant to see if the fragrance "clicks" and I can actually smell the full note pyramid. I should note that when I put in on before bed, it was still there in the AM and the baby wipe smell had gone; it was a proper green scent. So I know that, under certain circumstances, I can smell something akin to the proper scent. I'll update at the end of the decant.

Best fragrance in my collection, bar none. It's a fougère, but it smells like nothing else I have smelled. It's green, woody and spicy. I get quite a bit of cinnamon (might be clove to others). I don't generally like green fragrances. I am not an amber fan. But this stuff is just amazing. It's not too heavy. It's top luxury in a bottle, makes you feel rich and distinguished. Wish it was cheaper, but it's one of the few very expensive fragrances of which I think the price might be well justified. I need a backup bottle of this.

Anyone that reads my reviews knows I advocate for pricey frags. If they are worth it. Have expensive ingredients, high oil concentration, limited release. This is really not any of those. Only 25 percent oil, not limited, and really not expensive ingredients. So worth any half what they charge. Still I love it very much and will probably never not have a bottle. If you're on a budget you can pass. If money didn't matter then I would Def suggest having it

This is fantastic. I paid $50 for a quarter ounce and it was worth every penny. I'm not a CC fanboy, I despise at least half of what I've tried, but this is special. I bit of wood, a dash of spice, a tinge of sweetness. I'm not good with notes. This smells good. 12/2023 edit: Still fantastic and actually available at prices that won't require a second mortgage. As good as anything out there for $100 an ounce and a safe blind buy for a gentleman...

Just found the official description on the Clive Christian website: "25% Perfume Concentration. Exotic, warm spices from Clove, Ginger and Nutmeg merge with a hint of Oakwood inspired by the Brandy barrels of prohibition era; an olfactory cocktail that conjures the spirit and presence of the jazz era."

I sampled this and immediately slid this into my top 5 fragrances of all time. Just, wow! This fragrance fills a void I've had in my collection that I could never seem to fill. Sure, there are some great green/cypress-y fragrances I've come across but nothing has taken me back the first time like Art Deco Cypress has.

This is Halston's Z-14 (the deep vintage) to almost 100%... You can find a bottle of Halston's vintage Z-14 for around $40-$80. God damn't...

Wow ..this is simply put... the best cypress fragrance I have ever owned, the bergamot opening is god level bergamot and the blending is stunning, what keeps this from fizzing out is the slightly resinous amber dry down that lasts all day , so classy

The first time I wore this the pine smell seemed a bit strong. The second time I wore it I didn't notice the pine at all. A wonderful fragrance, really hard to describe. Smells really high quality.

This smells like a super rich guy in a suit who's surprisingly buff for being 55 and is probably a former army ranger.
