Sybarite

It's a perfume that needs time to develop. One of the most shape-shifting fragrances I ever smelled. Opens with beautiful suede notes. Then it takes woods 10-20 minutes to appear. Sandal wood is clearly discernible, but so is darker and deeper cedar. It stays a really well-blended woody-leathery perfume for a while, on my skin for about an hour or even more. Then very slowly rose and amber start to develop. Quite unusual, as rose notes are mostly at the top and disappear the fastest. The rose here takes its time, but then stays for hours. It intertwines beautifully with amber and delicious patchouli (and sandalwood in the background). The resulting composition has an almost gourmand quality to it. The wonderful thing is that Sybarite is long lasting (on me 7-8 hours) and dynamic throughout its smell-cycle. It keeps changing even when one does not expect it to any longer. The rose-amber-phase which fades out very slowly into a delicious aromatic gourmand-like musk, at times shows powdery iris-like facets, at times more woody depth. A beautiful creation that keeps surprising and delighting for hours and hours.

Sybarite (great name) is quite an unusual, shape-shifting scent. It is cedar-dominant - an unusual placement of a note that typically tends to feature in the base as part of a greater accord. Sybarite is woody and warm with a nice incense opening and suede drydown. Sybarite opens with a woody, freshly-hewn cedar note, joined by smoky incense. Less ecclesiastical, more earthy and ashy, it is as if the cedar log is being burned. A suede-like accord follows, ambery and realistic, complementing the woodiness to perfection. As it develops, soft rose emerges, complementing the woody-suede accord beautifully. It is an unusual order of notes - in Sybarite, the traditionally "base" notes emerge first. Patchouli adds earthiness, tying everything together beautifully as it dries down, fading to a musky-woody skin scent with a whisper of rose remaining. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting. Unisex and with good performance, Sybarite is an interestingly-composed, high-quality scent, best worn in autumn/winter. A classic rose accord, turned on its head, with cedar instead as the focal point. 4/5.

If you're looking for a feminine cedar smell, then this is for you. As for me, not really my thing; it's okay. Regardless of the smell, I would say that this is one of the most powerful and long-lasting perfumes I've ever tried. After 5 hours it still smells like you just sprayed it. I echo a lot of what is said below . For me the opening is incense heavy, which I was disappointed by just because I’m not a great fan of incense. However ten minutes later it loses the incense and develops into a very sweet mysterious woody leather heaven !! Even though it ends up being sweet , it’s not sweet in a candy way due to the leather but that is why it’s so so beautiful. I had a sample before I went the whole way, I was blown away by this one .just as a reference to the sweetness it is something like Oriens van cleef & Arpels incase you can’t tolerate the usual teen sugar offerings , it’s nothing like that Bonus is it continues to change and is very long lasting on the skin , around ten hours . I’m enjoying delving into this brand , this is my 3rd and very impressed

It’s quite something. The question for me was ‘do I want a scent whose middle and base notes are what appeal but whose opening notes I dislike?’ And the answer was ‘no’. I love the initial spray of a scent and the way it scents the house before going out. And this was just too smokey for me and left that incense smell in the room but not the delicious dry down. This is a gorgeous long lasting perfume, expertly blended and for lovers of smokiness and incense openers it’ll be heaven
