White Jasmine & Gardenia

today I tested White Jasmine & Gardenia by COCHINE. It’s a composition created for those who enjoy fresh, floral scents. The opening is green and crisp, with pronounced leafy notes and a mandarin accord, followed shortly by a rich floral bouquet. Jasmine, gardenia and tuberose are the most prominent, yet the fragrance remains light, green and fresh throughout. The composition evokes the feeling of a walk through a freshly cut meadow, holding an armful of these flowers. The base is musky, warm and slightly balsamic. Unfortunately, the longevity is around three hours, and the scent becomes quite close to the skin relatively quickly. It’s a pleasant offering, although there are many similar fragrances available on the market at much more friendly price point.

White Jasmine & Gardenia is my least favourite of the Cochine lineup, for reasons I find hard to put into words. Despite my love of most florals, this scent contains those few flowers I don’t warm to very well. Some may love it, but it’s not for me. Gardenia is front and centre, as you might expect, but it’s white soapy facets are overshadowed by its earthy element, which becomes overpowering as it combines with the sickly sweet gummy-ness of tuberose and champaca. Aside from this, there are but whispers of mandarin and green leaves. It’s not repulsive, or badly made by any means, it’s just one of those scents which simply isn’t for me. As a whole though, I feel Cochine is overhated on this website.

White Jasmine & Gardenia COCHINE. I first discovered Cochine from a discovery box of handcream; Vietnamese Rose & Delentii. I loved the scent on my hand. It was something different. But they didn't do it in perfume form. So I thought I would try a white floral. This certainly was a white floral. I liked the green element but a little too clean for my liking and lacks depth. Yes, definitely unisex and probably suit as spritzer after a sports activity.

first impression: Like Miller Harris, these names are to the point. Cochine says what they're going to do and does it well. However, these composition are complete- with or without you. I suppose I like my fragrances with a little wiggle room
