Coca for Men

The mythology of manhood can be mistaken to mean the "myth" of manhood. Quite the contrary, a shared mythology is often what makes up the foundation of a culture. In the postmodern culture of the 70s that opened up the liberation of sexuality in men, this mythology was both venerated and interrogated. A well groomed-man was allowed to leave a few buttons undone, to wear an oversized buckle to draw the eyes to a focal point, and was, most importantly, allowed along with the opposite sex to worship perfume as an object—as long as it was called a "cologne," of course, at least in the US. I've discussed many fragrances that were borne from this zeitgeist, but one in particular, Coca for Men, is unequivocally designed to seduce. It's one of those that seems meant to elevate a man's grit and sweat, spicy in scent and in attitude, sharply herbaceous, tenacious, bold and full-bodied. A "chygere" as I like to call it—more aromatic than a chypre, more mossy (and so very mossy!) and thicker than a fougere. Its nucleus is a haze of talcum powder, nebulously dirty musks (Muscarome?) and woods. It's woody all right, now get your mind out of the gutter, and get your feet onto the dance floor.

@Alphairone, you're absolutely right. This Coca was one of the best surprises I've had in perfumery. What a marvel!. Dirtier as Kouros, clearly defined notes, brutal in the beginning, but glamourous at the drydown. HUGE oakmoss, and ambergris. What a weapon for old school lovers. Don't expect something classy as Bel Ami or Blend 30, but what a beast!!! The bottle is tacky as f*ck! .Lucky me to get this!!

Coca for men is a nice spicy aromatic fragrance. Top notes come strong after spraying with lavender and anise. They're quickly surrounded by a bright talcum powdery mix of notes and a light/sweet nutmeg smell. Well rounded, definitely old school(perceptible oakmoss), could be easily associated to Calvin by Calvin Klein. If its manufacturing date is correct (76), It probably followed the trend of 70s powdery scents as Van Cleef pour homme, Lagerfeld Classic, Monsieur houbigant/musk etc. Great longevity and projection. No fragrance for aquatic fans.
