Chlorophyll Gardenia

The truth of the gardenia is paid homage here. Gardenias aren't necessarily always the voluptuous, over the top attention whores that are often their depiction. The gardenia flower can have its headiness, especially when at the precipice of decay, but when it first unfurls it is greener, more metallic, it gives me a feeling of silvery synesthesia. I can mention aromachems such as Syvertal, produced by IFF, with its damply verdant, earthy, metallic, fruity chrysanthemum-like and radish-like scent profile. I can also consider styrallyl acetate, also known as Gardenol, green, leafy, sharp, musty, almost mushroom-y. Both may or may not have been used here, but I am willing to guess. These aspects of a gardenia accord are my favorite, with the lactones kept at mid-levels, more green cream than coconut suntan lotion. Oh, then the Chlorophyll—yes, cut grass, crushed leaves, feeling somewhat like spearmint sans menthol, all l-Carvone, has this dovetailing interplay with the gardenia. I love how it reminds me of being in the hothouse of a botanical garden, perusing the various exotic plants and making a turn to encounter a colossal gardenia shrub, their aroma mingling with the perspiring vegetation surrounding it. The experience is winsome, friendly, yet it does nibble a bit with that signature CdG synthy character, like a quartet for cello, flute, Moog, and Arp 2600, . It's playful, and smells grand on this humid late June day, blooming from my skin as I hear lawnmowers outside and see a menacing cloudy sky.

Commendably loyal to a gardenia's soft, inoffensive but entirely memorable sweetness. I have a gardenia bush growing in my yard and I've seen how the center of the blossoms gradient towards a pale yellow. And when cut from the bush how quickly the petals soften like a warn baseball glove...I smell that all here, creme fraiche from the refrigerator sucked off the tip of your index finger, something buttery that keeps it tame though I'd say this sways significantly feminine. My only complaint with this wonderful fragrance is the green note. It's in the top and exits swiftly, nothing sharp or distinctly botanic, it mellows into a gentle spearmint and sinks like a burnished emerald into the gardenia's pillowing cream.

Of the three, this one was the one I was least interested in. I’m not a gardenia perfume fan. But I was surprised by it. It’s a cute, well edited gardenia with a modern green “rhubarb” note in the opening. The gardenia smells like its’ supposed to without elaboration, not turning into tuberose or coconut or banana candy like many gardenia compositions. It’s an easy gardenia, Gardenia for Dummies (like me). 4 out of 5.

Clash...crash! Like POW in my nose at first sniff...I almost recoiled...something is WRONG here. But then like a guilty addict, knowing it's bad for me, I sneak another sniff... Ahh chemical heaven. Others reviewers don't seem to notice, but I detect a disconcertingly strong synthetic element having its nasty way with the innocent green. Gardenia and grass...encased in melting plastic. I can't get enough of it.

Green monster opening, still green but creamier gardenia dry down. You need to enjoy green scent. I do, so this is a love. Bold take on gardenia, not disappointed. Somewhat long lasting, the gardenia skin scent stays for hours, the green opening about 2-3, not more. The 30ml bottle is quite handy and practical to bring in vacations :)

Sampled this with a friend and she bought it but I was too broke - extremely jealous. Quite soft, green garden-y floral. Absolutely enchanting to me.

I really love this fragrance. This is fresh/floral/a little spicy. The scent reminds me of being in a garden/forest in the early morning.

Does anyone have dupe recommendations? Can’t get enough of this!

Chlorophyll Gardenia is such a lovely scent. It’s a simple, uncluttered fragrance that is sharp and bright. Gardenia fragrances tend to be a little too powdery, creamy, or rich. This gardenia is sharp, green, and tart while staying true to the heady aroma that gardenias give off. The chlorophyll certainly undercuts it with that green, freshly cut grass note but it merely balances the richness of the gardenia. The scent projects well (it TRAILS behind you) and lasts throughout the day very well and dies down to a much more muted level but doesn’t disappear or go all soapy like a lot of florals do. I could definitely see me layering this one with a more earthy or woody fragrance to balance it out if I wanted a more complex scent. It is a much more concentrated fragrance compared to Radish Vetiver—it’s almost NEON gardenia—so only a few sprays are required otherwise it can lead to a bit of a headache. But hey! At least the 30mL bottle will last!

on my skin this is Gap's "Grass" from the 90s with a realistic yet slightly diffused gardenia attached; it's not waxy or overly heady. wasn't sure what to expect given reviews elsewhere so this is a happy surprise. the simplicity is appealing. it is quite potent and rather tenacious in terms of longevity. not your everyday presentation of gardenia which is a welcome deviation from the musk/powder/symphony of florals norm. this smells and feels like it is alive. [edit 5th june 2021] after 2 decants worth of testing i bought the full size. Chrolophyll Gardenia is happiness in a bottle.

Not usually a huge fan of more floral leaning fragrances but I quite enjoyed this one! The opening to me is like a really fizzy boysenberry smell and after about half an hour it started settling into the gardenia smell when the lighter notes wore out. Quite a creamy floral skin scent after about 2-3 hours. Not really for me personally though as I do love a good strong fragrance but might consider it one day

The opening is super minty and fresh, it evokes barber scent, then it's a lush white floral, with an unusual coldness. Not the same scent at all but it reminds me of Géranium pour Monsieur from Frederic Malle with a beautiful clash of flower and green, fresh scent.The gardénia is unexpected and was surprised by how much I like this fragrance. It's also cheap and long lasting.

I don’t get much green at all on my skin. There’s maybe a bit of a green fruity opening note - I got more Granny Smith than peas. But besides that it’s a sweet floral. Scents easily turn sweet on me, perhaps this is why I don’t like this one. Wish it did the chlorophyll in the name more justice. Does smell, as others have said, like a high end hair product. Not for me.

Green floral. I do get the pea. Vegetal and sour on my skin. Is it the pepper? Cold leaves, sitting in vodka. Over time, it becomes clean and soapy smelling. Unisex and modern. Would be great for summer.

Smells like green grassy wheatgrass. That's all I smell in the opening. It gets a little minty and smells a little like jasmine in the drydown but it's green and grassy throughout. Not for me. -

Impressive photographic work, but I just can't picture myself wanting to smell like this.

Smells exactly how I always envisioned chlorophyll to smell like when we learnt about it in Science. This is literally the most photorealistic scent of a crushed green leaf between your fingers. Kind of a cheerful green but so real that I actually think it's too much. I think this would layer beautifully under something sweet but then that is the greedy sweet thirsty 21st century human in me. We've been so conditioned to seek sweet/pretty things in perfumes that this just feels too intensely natural and my nose seeks something to soften it.

It smells like whatever molecule/accord perfumers use to create the smell of rhubarb. Rhubarb layered on top of a creamy slightly powdery and inoffensive gardenia. This isn’t one of those gardenias that is a massive swirl, it’s friendly, soft and the rhubarb makes it smell fruity. I did think it was going to be more wacky, but I’m discovering that comme Des garçons name their fragrances much scarier things than the actual smell. Concrete? Smelled like fruity shampoo Copper - tobacco/vanilla Still. This is my fave of the 3! :)

i don't really get the chlorophyll, this just reads like vaguely sweet something and gardenia to me. it's nice, doesn't lean too perfume-y or powdery. more smooth, not like cocoa/shea butter but that kind of rounded out richness to it if that makes sense. it gets more lactonic and creamy over time. one review mentioned it smelling like a high end hair product and i could definitely see that. shame bc i wanted to smell the green. i only rested a couple days so i may come back to this in a couple weeks and see if it's changed.
