Bergamot by Commodity Reviewed from 10ml travel sprayer Summary: a fragrance that effectively uses a citrusy theme for something darker and more charismatic than the usual summery, bright blasts of freshness Commodity’s Bergamot opens with the same sterile and blandly citrusy bergamot note present in most citrus-forward scents available commercially. Within a very short time, however, it dries down into something much heavier and more evenly balanced where the titular bergamot stands back and in harmony with its surrounding notes. The effect at this point and for the rest of its duration is one of bold darkness and masculinity, one that suits autumn and winter evenings more aptly than the summery brightness of common neroli and mandarin-based fragrances. Also, it does not ride the freshness theme the majority of citrusy scents do – while it is a fresh scent, the freshness comes from its cold demeanor. Bergamot is a scent for someone self-assured, someone occupied; it is not seductive or something very suitable for date night. Technical: Bergamot is not terribly long-lasting and never has a monstrous projection but is pleasantly assertive for about three hours on skin. The opening, as mentioned, is very typical of bergamot-based perfumes but balances out very quickly as the initial citruses burn off. Colors evoked: a shiny, dark purple and green surface, the two colors swirling together in a hard marbling. Musical accompaniment: George Michael - “Older;” Mega Drive - “NARC;” Osvaldo Fresedo - “Plegaria;” Portishead - “Numb” Timing: very versatile and not out of place in any season or time of day although it does conjure a serious, nocturnal and cold vibe in its full drydown stage

Very good fragrance. To me the opening smells like a lemonade with a perfect balance of sourness without being sweet. It's one of those fragrances that makes me wish I could drink it. Light vetiver comes out in the drydown. I really like it and it's a favorite of one of my female friends. Performance isn't phenomenal but it's a green citrus fragrance so you shouldn't expect all day performance. It's decent enough for what it is. A picture perfect daytime spring/summer scent. Picked it up for $30 at TJ Maxx a while back; it's a steal if you can still find it a rack stores around that price. Highly recommended at that price. I also own 78 Vintage Green, and I agree with The Wolf further down that they really don't smell that similar. In a broad sense they're both fresh green fragrances, but 78 Vintage Green is brighter and juicier from the fig and tea notes while Commodity Bergamot is sort of drier, more sour, and leans more into the vetiver. I mean, if you like one chances are you'll like the other, just as I do, but they're nowhere near identical.

Today I went went and did some niche testing and got couple samples of bergamot 22 which I tested against commodity. Opening and mid are very similar on skin. They are both very green and tangy. Both carry the green to the base and at that point the le labo becomes less green and has a mild warm amber. Commodity goes violet and vetiver in the the base while still maintaining some green. Mint is not prominent in commodity, it's blended to the point where it just smells green. I thought this was interesting because they're pretty darn similar. Both have great openings, I prefer the opening and mid of commodity, and the drydown of le labo. However, Le Labo drydown fades faster. So if you like Le Labo Bergamote 22, you can have something very close and equal for 30 dollars from the rack stores. Scent 8/10 Performance 4/10 P.S. I also own D&G light blue and banana republic green 78 which these are compared with in the "smells like" section. Commodity doesn't smell like either of them, and is much better than both of them.

To me, this smells VERY similar to Creed Original Vetiver and Mugler Cologne. I love it, but since I already have Creed Original Vetiver, I can't really justify getting it, as it would a redundant frag in my collection. I'd highly recommend Commodity Bergamot if you don't want to pay the high price of Creed Original Vetiver or the high price of Mugler Cologne on eBay (since it was discontinued years ago).

Nice scent. Opens with bright citruses that are almost all gone within 30 minutes. Then it dries down to a light airy vetiver, fluffy musk, and smooth kinda creamy woods. Past the standard cologney citrus opening it becomes a much more unique scent. You do have to go heavy with the sprays, at least 10+ to get projection and longevity. But if you do this has great performance and will last past 6 hours.

I’m so glad I stepped into Marshall’s today. Blind bought 3.4 oz bottle. This is very bright, effervescent, lush citrus fragrance. Kinda reminds me of Atelier Cologne’s Bergamote Soleil. But this one is softer, light, much more appealing to my nose. And the dry down is very calming. Too bad that Commodity already closed shop but I’m glad to have this in my collection. $39.99 well spent.

I really like this...it didn’t change the direction of my life...but it’s super refreshing and addictive. I can understand the D&G light blue references but this is less sharp, because of the bergamot and mandarin. It honestly more closely resembles JHAG Moscow mule. Or BBW white tea and ginger to my nose... I wouldn’t have paid full price, but 29$ from marshalls, I’ll take 2

I adore this scent! It starts off so juicy and then becomes soft, uplifting and cooling in warm weather. The only reason I haven’t purchased it is because it only comes in 100ml. I ended up getting another very similar scent that was waaaay more expensive but came in a smaller size. I will continue to be obsessed with the tester until it runs out though!

Bright clementine and bergamot on the opening for a nice POP, but the musk, Vetiver and patchouli meld together on the dry down and form a woody base. A slight touch of sweetness from the jasmine to cut out the dry. Leans a bit more masculine, but mostly gender neutral. It’s really nice!

I bought this off Ebay for $50 for my bf for Christmas and we both love it. It smells a lot better on him than me. It's strong and cirtusy and I can smell it sitting next to him. Love this scent

My favorite bergamot fragrance. Don't care about the longevity (3-5 hours) when something smells this good. Prefer this to other bergamot fragrances like bergamote 22 or renaissance.

My favorite citrus scent of all time, just does not last at all. Very fresh scent, smells like freshly peeled oranges with floral notes. I can't get enough of this.

This is a very pleasant citrus fragrance, and it's not teenage-y like most of the citrus class scents. Clementine is beautiful here.

Love when I first spray it..Disappears almost completely within half hour. Not even a skin scent on my skin. Disappointed.

I have only worn Commodity Bergamot a handful of times but it is amazing. It is very much an in between fragrance of John Varvatos Artisan Pure and Dior Homme Cologne style lemonade fragrances. Think Mercedes Benz Cologne, Zara Blue Hole/Vibrant Leather Cologne, Jimmy Choo Man Ice, Chanel Allure Homme Sport Cologne, etc. It also has similarities to Florida Water as well. Now note, Florida Water is far more weak and at this point synthetic compared to this. Commodity Bergamot doesn't open with a bergamot hit ironically. Instead I notice the clementine since it is a far more unique note that sadly is only featured in a few fragrances. It is paired with a Mandarin orange note and the bergamot. From there, there is a jasmine note that nearly comes off similar to neroli. I say this from owning Just Jack Neroli and Le Male Pride which have a similar citrusy open into a spicy mid. I can't compare it to Bright Neroli by Ferrari since it doesn't go full into the bitterness. The base to my nose is hardly noticeable. Bergamot is a spring and summer fragrance. It is good for work and casual use. I also find it good for active dates and the gym since it isn't a loud fragrance. Performance is on par with Artisan Pure and considering this can be found in rack stores for similar pricing to Artisan, I say get this instead. I found Artisan Pure too abrasive while this is fine. For these ratings I rate Bergamot a 7.6 out of 10. If you find it in a rack store and need a clean citrus cologne style white tee fragrance, get it. Well unless you find Mercedes Benz Cologne too...

If this lasted even just a couple more hours, bumping it up from a 1-3 hour fragrance to a 3-5 hour experience, it would be a spring/summer staple or dumb reach for me. In the first hour or 2 it actually projects OK and leaves a decent scent trail, and the scent itself is pretty d*mn pleasant, but the fact that its so fleeting is very annoying. I'd like to be able to spray it, head out for something... anything... and know that when I arrived I'd be able to smell myself and have others close by smell it too, but it's just too weak. There's a difference between a skin scent type fragrance that's just for you and a fragrance that just isn't there after a couple of hours. I don't need "beast mode", but I don't want to have to drench myself in something to experience it. 10ml travel sprays can be purchased dirt cheap on eBay. For that reason I'll always have 1 or 2 of them in my collection, but outside of a summer post-shower chill around the house vibe, there's not much you can do with this.

Got this at tj maxx for 23 dollars. Very fresh very citrusy off the initial spray, really wakes you up. For me even though lemon isnt a note, I get lemon from it, which kinda makes sense because lemons originated from bitter orange and citron, and this has bergamot (bitter lime for all intents and purposes) and Clementine (a sweeter orange). After 5 minutes, it smells really similar to the opening of versace signature pour homme though I think the versace smells a bit cleaner. After that, dries down really nice to ever so slightly leaning masculine scent of the vetiver musk and patchouli, but in general this scent is definitely unisex. Initial citrus has good projection but after that its pretty intimate, and get about 4 to 6 hours of performance. Will be wearing this when it warms up, very refreshing scent

Tried this from a Birch Box, and since I love fresh, citrus fragrances this is quite nice. While I prefer Versace Man Eau Fraiche on me, this is, perhaps, a little more creative and mature. (The Versace lasts on me a lot longer but, on purpose, does not project. Commodity Bergamot seems to project somewhat but is noticeable for a much shorter duration. Both are well-blended.) I can detect the mint oil in phases so it gives me the image of a giant orange skiing down a cool, breezy slope of snow. I can also imagine someone putting this on after the gym for its cheerful, clean freshness. It seems great for a hot day but bring the bottle with you as it fades fast. While I probably don't need a bottle of this, I like it a lot and would definitely wear it again.

Fresh and sharp opening of bergamot slightly rounded out and softened with fruity notes of clementime/mandarin that warm up and sweeten the bergamot’s cool acidity. Quite delightful. That sweetness is edged further forward as the jasmine unfolds, then the top and heart bed down into a musky vetiver base. Not very much projection, mainly a skin scent and unsurprisingly quite short lived, but enjoyable for the duration. Good for spring and summer days. My only complaint is that I find the fragrance weak, I prefer my juice a lot stronger. Will need a lot of sprays to adequately perfume myself, but luckily I found this very cheap online, so I can spray with wild abandon. I wouldn’t pay full asking price, but if you shop around there are bargain prices.

After applying I am immediately rejuvenated by the burst of juicy, tart, and fresh citrus notes of bergamot and orange with a touch of mint. This vibrant phase, lasting about one hour, is like a refreshing breeze with a decent projection. Then, the fragrance takes an intriguing turn as the woody notes of vetiver and violet emerge, adding a new layer of intrigue. The fragrance stayed on my skin for more than 4 hours, leaving me feeling energized and invigorated. This fragrance reminds me of a calmer version of Renaissance from Xerjoff, with the citrus and mint. If you like Renaissance but find the opening too bold and powerful, this might work better for you.

This is beautifully unisex and doesn't smell like perfume, it's so natural. I get a sparkling delicious citrus, kind of like citrus soda in the best way. It's not sweet but not totally dry either, kind of like a Granny Smith apple. It's absolutely delicious and then fades into almost violet mixed with fresh cut grass. This would be the perfect office/interview scent. It makes me feel strong and confident, yet it's so inoffensive and doesn't smell "perfumey". Absolutely love it but it's so expensive :,(

I was expecting a citrus blast, but it opens like a lemonade. A bit citrus, a bit sweet. Then it transforms into a virgin mojito. Lemon with green notes but it’s quickly overtaken by vetiver. And that’s pretty much where it stays. Doesn’t move forward or backwards, it stays stubbornly attached to vetiver. The sillage drops by the minute, what’s left is a distant memory of bergamot and tangerine and a dry soapy vetiver. Recommended? Not sure. Unless you find a good deal, I don’t think it’s worth $135+.

Bought three of these for $29 ($24) at Marshalls before Christmas. Such an easy, bright, versatile and unisex fragrance. I gave one to my sister/BIL and one to my dad. It's a nice, casual, slightly masculine-leaning, citrus with musky, fresh dry-down. Definitely not a heavy, room-filler. Perfect for hot summer days, warm-weather trips, work etc. I'm a woman (as is my sister, lol) and we both really enjoy this - as does her husband. And for this price? Give me all the Commodity Bergamot!

I really enjoy this one! I caught it on sale at TJMaxx, and snatched it! Initially I bought it for my husband, but after smelling it on him, I started wearing it too! His friends liked it too and borrowed it from him on their bachelor party trip. Don't sleep on this one! It's a juicy mint orange frag with a musky jasmine base. Super fresh, not too sweet, but just enough to make it yummy! Longevity/projection is moderate. But if you catch it on sale, it's worth it!

This is very nice and 95% zingy bergamot for first 15 minutes. When the top burns off the mandarin, mint and jasmin come out to play a bit. Dry down hits and I get a nice sandalwood, patchouli and vetivert note. This one is all about the green bergamot, and woody drydown, very uplifting and energising, then calming and grounding - very unisex. Is it stunning or a must have? No. I got this as a sample, and it was fun but time to try another green woody citrus. ⛤⛤⛤

Dont know if it matters but I have the version from the Archive discovery set. Opens incredibly citrus (obviously) with hints of florals, I personally did not pick up any mint. Dries down (quickly) into quite a creamy musky citrus vibe. Doesnt last a long time. I run out of things to say with frags like this though. Yes its citrus, no it doesnt last very long, but at least it doesnt smell like lemon floor cleaner.

Juicy burst of citrus which evolves into a vetiver fragrance at its base. This is a very nice complex well blended fragrance which is more versatile season wise due to its base notes. It's been holding up well in cold weather on my skin and thus being a perfect pick me up scent, especially during COVID-19. AT $29‐$32, it's a good value. If I run out, I will re-buy this if it is still available.

It's a lovely scent and I use it very regularly as I was testing for substitutes for Hermes Pamplemousse Rose when my sephora stopped carrying it. However, I wouldn't recommend it. You essentially have to spray it like it's some Buy-1-Get-1-Free body mist to get any sillage or longevity. So for $135 you may as well spend your bucks elsewhere.

A good one! Usually bergamot gives me a headache, this one I don't think does. Smells citrus-y without smelling like cleaner, it's like fresh squeezed limey to my nose, and feels a bit more masculine. I'd keep the sample but it isn't full bottle for me, I typically don't like these types of smells but this is nice.

Pretty but toned down, "perfume-y" bergamot-themed fragrance. Bergamot is its own note--this is neither a lemon nor a lime, and the clementine is present enough to smooth it all out.

This fragrance smells really good, fresh bergamot, toned down by vetiver. My only complaint is sillage and longevity could be better. Lasted under 3 hrs on my skin and shirt.

I love this bright golden bergamot scent, but it's so intimate and weak... Why are so many of your scents so weak, Commodity? We want to smell and love them!

Blissfully simple. Photorealistic bergamot. Leans slightly feminine as the neroli-esque jasmine comes thru in the dry down. Perfectly unisex. Smells awesome

A lovely burst of bright lime and bergamot which for me lasts for around an hour and a half. But what a delightful 90 minutes!

Pretty enough for a woman to wear, fresh, safe, linear dna, no lasting power. Not worth the money for such common dna scent.

Fresh and uplifting. quality of ingredients and excellence of blend is obvious. unfortunately, not long lasting.

I also picked this one up in tj maxx (for $30) I tried to read up about the brand before blind buying. It seemed that this was a “niche” like brand. On the less expensive end. Maybe indie perfume brand. I’m not sure what the exact definitions and categories are. So far I have worn this 3 times. It’s very fresh citrusy with a pop of bergamot as you spray this on there are mandarin and clementine notes listed too. The bergamot is the main citrus. There is also a sort of minty freshness after the initial spray which I get from the geranium, and, well mint. In dry down I get some vetiver. The longevity was not great at all so far. To me it just faded mostly and was a very faint skin scent after an hour or two, and that was with applying about 6 sprays. This fragrance is definitely unisex and quite pleasant. It’s a like but no love from me. I will probably land up wearing this in the summer once in a while when I’m not sure what to wear. I don’t think I would buy this bottle again though. The quality to me feels like very average designer fragrances. For $30 though I can’t complain. Btw I tried their vetiver fragrance on and completely hated it. I had to scrub it off right away. The reviews which describe it as smelling like wet cardboard are sadly so true.

Commodity is one of my favorite houses so I picked this up blindly at TJ Maxx (it was in the women's fragrance section). It performs well like their other scents, projects and lasts several hours on my dry skin. But this one isn't my style! It is completely unisex. Very clean, fresh, citrusy, and a bit boring. It isn't sexy, flirty, or mysterious. It would be a nice fragrance for a professional office, it's a more daytime, spring/summer scent. It's not offensive by any means, just nothing special.

I looked for this at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s for a long time. Then finally came the day where I got this and Commodity Vetiver for $29.99 each. Score. Saw it marked down to $24 later. It’s a nice, high-quality bergamot. To me, it’s actually quite similar to Tom Ford Rive d’Ambre in the opening. For a classic citrus that’s clean, not overly bright, and unisex but slightly leaning masculine, this fits the ticket. Sadly, for whatever reason, my fiancé’s nose doesn’t like it too much.

Scent profile: Think of lemonade or the scent of peeling an orange skin. Drydown of Commodity Bergamot is similar to the opening of Dior Homme Cologne. Leaves a great scent on clothes. Casual. Would be a great beach scent, picnics, or be in nature. Pleasant and easygoing. :) Got from Winners, Canada #23284 - White label variant

Bright citrus. A little too citrusy. The projection is light and the longevity is moderate, giving more of a “clean skin aura” than a full perfume moment. Beautiful for warm days, but not full bottle worthy for me.

Smells like you climbed into a citrus tree. Nothing more, nothing less. The scent doesn't stay past an hour. Not something I'd purchase again but not the worst blind buy from a discount store I've ever picked up.

Saying that this smells like Xerjoff Renaissance is simply wrong. They are not alike. VERY, VERY, VERY different citrus aromatic fragrances. VERY.

Following up my review of Commodity’s Vetiver, I regrettably allowed myself to be lured back into TJMaxx’s gilded cage, where I knew damn well there would be a pile of discontinued, modestly-priced Commodity sirens waiting for me. “I’ll try Bergamot this time,” I told myself. “I probably won’t even like it.” I was wrong, and my wallet felt the pain. Bergamot is Commodity’s take on a classic gentlemanly eau de cologne, and it’s done extremely well. I enjoy these type of scents, be they 4711, Acqua di Parma’s Colonia, or Dior’s Eau Sauvage, but I’ve always felt that they were a bit coy with their citrus, too reluctant to give it to you straight. I like a citrus so sharp it pierces through the back of my head, which makes the rounded, dried-out lemon of AdP somewhat frustrating. This is not an issue with Bergamot. Aside from the obvious, Commodity replaces the industry-standard lemon with a fat, juicy clementine note that stands out as both forceful and playful. Under the citrus, a leafy green heart reveals itself which distinguishes Bergamot from flatter citrus-dominant scents. Bergamot is the first scent of its genre I’ve encountered in Eau de Parfum concentration, and Commodity utilized all of the added working room to great effect. This is a very deep, rich scent with a lot going for it, and I’d highly recommend it to someone in the market for a classic Eau de Cologne-type scent. For the price I paid ($29.99), I’d take this over Acqua di Parma. I’m happy to have found my piece of Commodity.

Picked this up at tjmaxx as a blind buy back in October. I smelled it and it was ok but it wasn’t right for the weather at the time for me. I would occasionally wear it around the house in the colder months because I liked it but it just had something different about it that I didn’t feel right wearing out if that makes sense 😭 but tonight I get it out and decided to look up the notes and I see the mint note and immediately knew that is what was feeling odd about this fragrance! but in a good way. It’s not like a peppermint toothpaste mint, it’s like a lemon balm mint. My grandparents house had a TON of lemon balm growing around it, the stuff was absolutely everywhere and anytime you stepped out side in the east Tennessee summer heat and humidity it would hit you in the face. I remember picking it and rubbing it in my palm as a kid and that’s what this smells like to me, sitting on the back porch listening to the cars and birds and crickets in the twilight of summer rubbing the lemon balm in my hands and smelling all the other flowers and greenery around. On me it last for about 3-4 hours but I feel like it will preform better in the summer months and I’m so excited to wear it once it starts getting consistently hot here again

Commodity Bergamot opens with a bright, fresh, zesty citrus vibe. Some subtle florals and a clean woody vibe are also there. Leans slightly feminine IMO. Reminds me of that 4711, or Mugler Cologne vibe although there isn't a neroli note listed here, but I think the citruses combined with the supporting notes form a similar effect. Very clean, refreshing, sophisticated. I really like the slight bitterness combined with the citrus, it makes it just so slightly fresher and give off a lime/bergamot peel feel to it. After it dries down you lose the freshness and zestiness from the citruses and get a somewhat generic musky/woody base. Projection and longevity are both pretty weak but I think it's not very unique fragrance, but it's a solid, extremely wearable, unisex summer time scent or all year round for a casual, 'clean laundry' type of vibe. I love the sparkly citrusy bergamot opening..sweet girly and fresh! I am less keen on the drydown, however, as the vetiver really comes to the fore and makes it a more masculine scent than I like. This is really my issue with so many 'unisex' scents out there right now: either the opening or the drydown is distinctly floral or brisk, leaving it unbalanced overall, reading too girly for most men, and too burly for most ladies, or perhaps even more than than, it lacks an idea of what it even wants to be as whole.
