Gin

In the opening, for just a fleeting moment, I get a note that reminds me cypress, which reminds me a bit of Amouage Bracken Man. Then it quickly settles into a citrus/patchouli thing that’s not unlike Zara Vibrant Leather or Montblanc Explorer. Sadly, the longevity is entirely too fleeting. This is a lovely, masculine, fresh, woody juice. Projection is close to the skin. Longevity is maybe 5 or 6 hours before its completely gone, which is unfortunate.

This house has some of the best scents out at the best prices available. This is a must try. Very unique and different.

This fragrance pretty much opens smelling like gin and soda with a squirt of lime and a breezy oceanic quality. There is also a pleasant sweetness to the opening. I like! As it transitions, within a few minutes I am beginning to pick-up some of that eucalyptus and woods with the gin accord starting to fade into the background. Still, it's nice. About a half-hour late this fragrance has moved into the drydown and I am sending the musk push forward and patchouli step forward. Moreover, while the gin accord has really toned down, it is still present...although it is giving off a big of that sour-mash vibe that is present is fragrances such as Le Dandy. There is also a bit of an herbal/vegetal quality developing in the background of this blend, which is my least favorite phase. Performance is not-so-good in that is last 3 or so hours on my skin, projects moderately for the first hour, and then becomes a skin-scent thereafter. Overall, Commodity Gin is an interesting fragrances, but it does not suit my style and performance is a deal killer. Hopefully others will have better luck with this one than I.

Gin by Commodity is a fresh and juicy sunny day scent. It opens with a massive sea spray of bergamot anchored by hints of eucalyptus and musk. Jasmine and white florals sneak into the background and quietly whisper their fragrant qualities inviting sandalwood and patchouli to join the fray. This is a very nice, casual afternoon scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate at best. Note: you can purchase a massive bottle of Pinaud Clubman’s Lime Sec that will do the same thing for under $10.

Lovely but not powerful scent. Received a discovery kit with many different scents. Very faint eucalyptus with jasmine on a very subtle woody base. Maybe a tinge of leather just on top of the woods. Not particularly strong in projection but lovely as a personal scent. A quick whiff reminds me of a bright refreshing gin maybe with cucumber and lime dropped in but as above the notes skin to nose show a different make up. Only a bargain purchase for me.

So I bought this as a blind buy from Marshalls on clearance and with previously falling in love with Moss. I was like sure let's try it! Reviews seem mixed on this scent so let's start. It's definitely a nice masculine scent. It opens as a barbershop for sure. Very clean scent and starts to dry down as a very appealing leather smell. If you enjoy the smell of leather, this dry down is appealing for you. Other then that nothing stands out. Doesn't last too long sadly for a parfum. Worth another spray, definitely smells enjoyable. It reminds me of John Varvatos Aqvua but the dry down is better but with less performance then JV. Im not sure I'd recommend this unless you love barbershop and leathers. Those seem the most dominant. Definitely not bad.

The reviews that compare this to Grampa's aftershave or a barbershop aren't wrong - this has a classic, old fashioned men's cologne sort of smell - which means it doesn't smell unique or expensive, but it could be perfect for an actual man you know. My husband mostly smells of barbasol and drug store antiperperant and, upon smelling this, I immediately thought it would fit right in. As I've said in other reviews, Commodity fragrances tend to smell like commodity fragrances - something you've smelled before in a toiletry somewhere. That can be alright - but its not my thing.

This dirty herbal scent is much too masculine for my taste. The gin-like opening of eucalyptus, juniper, and lime peel were nice, even if they don't suit my style, but there is a musky, dirty patchouli at the heart that is a deal-breaker for me. It smells rather like a muddy evergreen forest in the autumn, which is great on a hike, or on other people, or even as a candle in my house, just not on my own skin. It's also worth noting that Fragrantica and Commodity list different notes. From Commodity's website: Top - Juniper Berry, Grapefruit Juice, lime; Middle - Ginger leaf, Freesia, labdanum; Base - Patchouli, Smokey Oak, Musk. I have the little Commodity cocktail kit, and of the samples included, I liked about half, and I'd say the black line trends very earthy and masculine.

I get a mens aqua cumcuber body wash thing: quite a soapy opening. To start this seems like a generic guys "ice" colonge but higher end. Gets more interesting as it settels into cold bitter herbal-juniper. I get notes of white floral, musk and vetiver. Fair longevite and silage. Have tried 15 Commodity perfumes, Gin is an interesting scent but not a fan of it for myself. My partner likes it though. I like Oriss, Tea, Bergamot and Tonka from Commodity best. ⛤⛤

I smelled it in paper and tried it on my skin as well. I get a generic musky leathery scent with sharp green edges. It's pretty familiar to my nose while I can't point to a certain perfume. I enjoyed having it on my skin to be honest but it only lasted for 2-3 hours. A big disappointment. Overall: 4 out of 10.

Gin by Commodity is a unique botanical concoction that marries herbal bitterness with mint and spices. It is warm with watery undertones. It opens strongly with juniper and bergamot, deeply reminiscent of a gin & tonic. There is a little dash of eucalyptus, ginger, oak, and musk in there as well, mixing well with each other. I am picking up cinnamon and sandalwood that opens up later, even as the bitterness continues strong. The drydown is a beautiful sandalwood-mint-wood-musk that retains a fresh wateriness, almost cucumber-like. What makes this scent so beautiful is that no one note dominates the perfume, providing instead a complex and altogether whole composition that unravels beyond clear identification. I have never smelled anything like this, and Commodity has indeed done a very good job in evoking this perfume's namesake. This is pretty much a complete perfume on its own. It is thus tragic that such a beautiful perfume would have such low sillage. This is absolutely something that I WOULD want people to smell because its gentle complexity is such a unique olfactory experience. It has moderate longevity on my skin. This is certainly a unisex perfume for any time of the day. If it was louder, I'd imagine it would do well even in the clubs. I would totally purchase this for myself in a small amount. This isn't something I can pull off, but it would keep maybe 10ml for my personal olfactory enjoyment from time to time. Cheers! Scent: 9/10 Sillage: 5/10 Longevity: 7/10

I got an entire sample pack of Commodity really cheap. Before I got it, I was really interested in "Rain" and "Gin" because of the fantastic names and concept. But before going for a blind buy, I decided to test them out. What a good decision that was.. Gin starts off fresh and basically stays fresh. It's masculine, has some smooth leather to it and also a little bit of a dirty smell. But not like Oud or anything, more like the forest or the smell after it has been raining. The freshness, combined with the leather, the bitter notes and also that slight smell of dirt make this a great composition. It seems very familiar and I know I've smelled something like this before, I just don't know what it was exactly. Maybe something from CK? Anyway, I think this is a good one, although it won't last you for too long. Worth hunting down? I personally don't think so. It's just not that unique and/or amazing to spend a lot of money on and hunt it like crazy. Plus, there seems to be something about Commodity's DNA that I just can't stand. It almost makes me sick, which is super sad. I do not know what it is! Still, decent stuff. If it's on sale somewhere, I do absolutely think it's worth it. But other than that.. not so much.

This is really nice, smells like a gin and ginger ale. Perfectly refreshing, fizzy, and citrusy all while being surprisingly classy. I was not expecting much from this one, but I am pleasantly surprised. I think this is unisex but leans masculine for sure. Performance seems to be quite nice and will last 8 hours easily. It projects about an arm's length but keeps a nice classy bubble around the wearer. Very nice, interested to try more from this house!

On my skin, this is an absolute eucalyptus bomb! It's got a very herbal-botanical vibe to it, like stepping into an all-natural spa/salon environment. I think this is one of the more masculine Commodity scents for sure. I don't really get a gin vibe from this, but it's still a good scent.

I do not consider this to be particularly unisex. This immediately reminded me of my grandpa's aftershave. After trying it a few more times, I have learned that it is pretty decent for layering with other fragrances if I only use one spray of Gin. I wouldn't toss it but I'm not a big fan.

I love this. It's close to it's namesake and I definitely get the juniper. But it's mixed with some ginger, citrus and some sweetness that makes it smell more like a gin based cocktail or ramune??. Compared to Mimosa it's more woody and patchouli.

I like this, it is masculine. Watery eucalyptus with a leather-patchouli base. Refreshing but deep.
