Magnolia

I cannot believe I found this gem for $35 at Marshalls. A delightful burst of magnolias and soft powdery notes between the violet and rose, with an underlying slight sourness and herbaceous note from the ylang-ylang and eucalyptus. The pink grapefruit sparkles at the opener but doesn't singe. Really impressed with this gorgeous unique floral! Much different from my white floral and citrus fragrances, and not overly sweet. It kind of reminds me of Marble Fruit from Boy Smells, but less cloying. This feels like a mature, demure floral. I'm in love. Shocked that I got this at such a steal.

This is a fresh, bright floral. The magnolia note stands out. It can be a little much in the beginning but the dry down is incredible (especially if you love florals). The grapefruit note helps round this out. I don’t get too much of the base notes. Anyway, this is one of my favorite florals, especially in the warmer months.

This is my first Commodity scent.. I was drawn to its purity. It's so lush and beautiful. Gives a watery that smells so clean. I'm drawn to it!

Stunning scent. The best from the line

I went to the perfumes at Marshall’s, not planning to find a Commodity fragrance (but had found Tea at TJ Maxx 2 months earlier) - so I had to blind buy! A steal at $34.99. It’s a beautiful white floral that initiates with a burst of green. I’m not at a point in my fragrance journey where I can always detect individual notes, but I can get the green and water lily (as Shi has that water lily). Also getting the dry down with Ylang Ylang and Magnolia. Though Magnolia is intended to be the prominent note, I’m getting more of a blend with this fragrance (and that’s a good thing, I’ve smelled the flowers on a tree and can be a bit much). I can’t stop smelling my wrist. It dries down shampoo-ey. A classy “lady who lunches” fragrance. It’s intended to be unisex, but it leans feminine to me.

Commodity is a new to me as a brand. I bought 15 samples and will try them all. I started with Magnolia - and yes, I find it unisex. A bit dark flowernotes with green notes and musk. Really nice. I don't like sugarsweet/flowersweet scents - this one is thumb up, perfect on my skin. I can absolutely se a man wear Magnolia, the green notes and the musk does not make this scent a typical flowery scent. And a really good scent for a woman, maybe not for a teenager.

I had a collection set. This was the scent that had a leaky spritz. Sadly, I used it once before misplacing the "book." When I found it again, it had all leaked out despite my precautions. I know I enjoyed it and seeing the company go out of business before I could afford to buy the scents I liked (Rain is another) made me sad; but the sale was going on before I realized.

Just saw them at Sephora. I was wondering how much Magnolia is inside since the scent is so complex. It deep, sweet, with a big chuck of jasmine, and lilly of th valley in it. Good staying power. I can smell several notes even hours later. Beautiful fragrance. Not so strong initially, and when it just keeps growing.

To me, this smells like a much more sophisticated, smooth and overall improved version of Febreeze. Couldn't really see myself ever wearing this as it definitely leans feminine, but I enjoy it nonetheless.

This is a gorgeous, well-designed floral. It's rich, lush, and long-lasting. That being said, I don't really like florals. But if you love florals, you could hardly do better than this. It's magnificent.

this one surprised me! very realistic floral. i felt like i was smelling fresh-cut flowers from the grocery store. not super interesting, but light and fresh. one of my favorites of its kind.

Commodity, and their Book fragrance especially, was the first niche brand I fell in love with. It was an accessible and affordable entry point into niche fragrances. When they closed, I, like many, scrambled to collect as many as I could. Magnolia was low on my wishlist, but I picked it up for a good price. Here, magnolia is dominant, nestled in fresh-smelling but nondescript "green" notes. It's classy and clean and a definite compliment-getter, and I understand why it was one of their more popular offerings. It's one that I could have done without, though. To me, it smells somewhat expensive and very respectable and "easy" in a studied way, but it's trying a bit too hard to make a good impression. That said, I'm sure I'll get through the bottle since it's great for days when you want to smell nice, but conservatively so.

A beautiful white floral, but nothing super special. The magnolia is lovely, dewy and realistic. It has beautiful background notes of lily, violet and musk. The base is very inoffensive, very modern and overall "safe". This is definitely a mid 2010's white floral interpretation. Nothing groundbreaking, nothing overly complicated or unique, just inoffensive and casual. This reminds me slightly of Amouage Honour Woman, but it's softer and slightly less intense. I can also slightly feel the watery green notes. They are either due to "green notes" or due to lily, as both are quite aquatic. Overall, it's beautiful, but I personally think there are more interesting commodity fragrances (velvet and book come to mind, the book was pre-santal 33 papyrus fragrance, and velvet is intense nutty rose).

Pleasant but forgettable. Smells like bee nectar, sweet and clean but very one-dimensional. The magnolia doesn’t have much depth, and the sillage and longevity are both weak. Nice for a light, inoffensive floral moment, but nothing that stands out or lasts. 6/10

It’s OK. I wish I’d gotten more of the caramel and oakmoss. Not too aquatic and definitely very floral. Its very very basic. Turns sweeter on drydown. Uber safe smell for work or formal occasions.

Wow, this stuff is STRONG. I applied one spritz from the Storybook sampler set. (I wonder whether samples are often more concentrated.) At first sniff I was pleased; I love Demeter's Magnolia but it's way too light, and I've been looking for a stronger Magnolia. But then this one kept growing... and growing. Then it began to take on almost masculine overtones. (Almost. It's still more feminine than masculine, but I think this could be a unisex.) With Commodity's, it's not that the magnolia itself is too strong, it's just that the whole blend is too much. The eucalyptus in particular is bothering me. Now I've attempted to wash it off, and I think it's still going to be with me the rest of the day. Though it does smell nicer now, I feel my allergies stirring up. I honestly don't think I'd object to smelling this on someone else, but my daughter won't stand next to me while I'm wearing this. Wear this one with caution. UPDATE: Layering with Mimosa helps. Transforms it into a nice floral soap. I can deal with this.

For me, one of the scrubbers from Storybook. I may have no business adding my $.02 to a review page of something floral, yet here I am. It could be because I love the way magnolias smell. I went to college in Tallahassee, FL, and in the spring, the magnolia trees made everything smell lemony and alive. This is just so very loud. I've read people complain about Gold lacking in sillage or longevity, this has quite the opposite issue on me. I am, however, beginning to wonder if how we observe sillage/longevity could be a function of liking or disliking the scent. I love Black Orchid, for example, but if I didn't, I would imagine even the smallest amount of that would be torture. It's one of my only florals though.

Jasmine green tea and grapefruit to open. Then watery magnolia and sweey ylang ylang. Last up a light musk and rose comes to the party. No eucalyp, moss or caraml to me. I like white floral best of the florals so I will for sure use the rest of tge sample but not buy a bottle ⛤⛤⛤

I can't get past the grassy accords.. all I can smell is freshly cut grass and a faint clean scent.

White floral, especially lily of the valley, combined with citrus. It is pleasant but not unique.

I'm a big Commodity fan (but mainly their new line tbh). I hated this, on par with Wool for making me feel physically ill. It absolutely STINKS of bad breath and dirty dishwater to my nose. The smell of a dishwasher thats ran out of cleaning salts. Take this with a pinch of salt (pun intended) obviously because I've never heard/seen anyone else describe it this way and my BF didnt find it offensive at all. But I hated it. Anyone know what ingredient is causing this reaction or is it pure bad luck skin chemistry? But also, everyone who's saying this is a safe fragrance, you're wrong, if I had to sit next to someone wearing this and it smelled anything like it does on me, I'd need to move away or risk yakking all over them :)

Sadly it took the announcement that Commodity as a fragrance house was closing its doors and ceasing production to spark my interest in this brand. I wish I had more time to sample all that this fragrance house has to offer, but for now, I have only the discounted stock at Sephora to go by. Magnolia by Commodity is a simplistic yet lovely and crisp interpretation of magnolia. It would make a perfect Spring scent and is surprisingly quite long-lasting on the skin. Magnolia by Commodity has several facets; fresh, green, citrusy and clean. It is one of the nicer magnolia dominant fragrances on the current market and it is a shame to think that it will soon be discontinued. I find Commodity fragrances similar to Jo Malone's colognes; they are linear yet perfect for layering purposes. Magnolia has the potential to blend harmoniously with white florals, citrus aromatics and woody musks. As a stand-alone fragrance, Magnolia by Commodity works well as either a casual, everyday scent or as a gym fragrance. Perhaps the one-dimensional compositions and relatively high price tags led to the brand's subsequent downfall. There's no denying that from those that I have had the pleasure of testing, they are quality fragrances. The brand drew much of its success from sourcing sustainable ingredients, employing skilled perfumers and adopting a minimalist aesthetic. I will be sad to see this brand go.

Strong but inoffensive,moderate longevity and good projection.I'd say it a citrusy magnolia with musk in the background.It cold,watery and white-floral.I have no issues pulling this one off at work,but I was asked twice already-if I am wearing ladies perfume.I really liked this fragrance, to my own surprise, it is my favorite scent this spring,it freshens my mind and nostrils after a long winter,that I heavily sweetened using my gourmand fragrances. The chances that you will regret buying this fragrance are 0.1 out of 100.Priced reasonably,considering quality and other positive factors:longevity,projection. I feel like checking out other Commodity fragrances.

A pretty photo realistic Magnolia scent. I was gobsmacked to see all the notes listes in this pyramid, I really thought it was a single note scent lol. To me, it's pretty linear and simple. If you like white florals, you will like this; if you don't, then you won't like this. It served its purpose when I was in my white florals era during my pregnancy and gourmands made me gag. But, of course, that was short lived and I'm back to my smokey, spicy, woodsy, gourmands. Had to let this one go on Mercari as I never reach for it anymore.

This smells like a lot of other fragrances to me. Pretty run of the mill scent. It's a sharp magnolia floral, with a hint of grapefruit. It often struck me as nostalgic and then I realized that it was a bit like my dish soap. It was very linear on me, with very low silage.

I bought this as a young adult... I think because I enjoyed the floral notes... didnt realize until later that I preferred smelling it on women instead of myself... Probably used it 10 times then gave it to my mom.. lol

Realistic fresh flowers. Reminds me very much of Emozione Ferragamo, even though Emozione has no white flowers in it at all. I think it's a generally heady floral aura that makes them similar to me.

I found this on sale for $34 at TJ Maxx and RAN to check out with it. Oh my god. The opening feels kind of 80s, but once it dries down? Warm, fresh, floral heaven with massive sillage. I'm in love.

Little girl lily of the valley and daffodil yellow, like a polka dot dress in summer. Pretty, and very Summer as a Child, but too much polka dot for me.

La Perla's Signature smells nearly identical to this, if you're looking for an alternative scent now this is fully discontinued.

A very light, clean, slightly powdery floral. Very pleasant, might buy for a friend, but not me.
