Bois De Filao

Bois De Filao is a nice versatile masculine scent for hot weather. The quality of this juice is remarkable. It opens harsh with a blast of citruses, lemony citruses, but as time passes, it becomes smoother and smoother. It is a beautiful mix of wood, lemony citruses, violet leaf and papyrus with a sweet aura and some spices. A scent suitable for summer, spring and fall. I find it very attractive for hot rainy days because of the watery warmness of the papyrus note.. The longevity is above the average, about 7-8 hours and the sillage is heavy for the first hour but settles down to a moderate projection after 1.5-2 hours. The most distinguished notes are pink pepper, violet leaf, papyrus, bergamot and patsouli. I can feel the rest of the notes but they are weak. It is clearly a masculine scent or at least if you prefer a unisex with a strong masculine orientation. Bois De Filao is perfect for men who want something different from the common scents. I like it very much! Worth to buy!

Freshly ground pepper and coriander – it’s the very start of Bois de Filao for me. Fleeting presence of violet leaf and then warm amber note creeps in, and bergamot becomes noticeable. The pepper stays and is rather prominent in the whole composition. Also there is something I cannot identify, maybe that’s the papyrus they mentioned in a scent pyiramid. The drydown is woody musky, and even as I don’t particularly like musc, here it’s only a complimentary note, and is not sharp or annoying. The whole composition is smooth, like a perfectly orchestrated piece of music. The notes interlace, complementing each other, making this scent a masterful creation. In my opinion there’s nothing particularly masculine about this scent, it’s not sharp or harsh, just perfect for colder months.

Starts out as a weak, green wood scent with a warm spicy edge, very gingery, with a somewhat otherwordly transparency. Soon both the green notes and the spice start to dissipate, leaving just a sweet exotic wood scent, slightly smoky, which is refreshingly minimalist but unfortunately stays weak. There's a definite spice component remaining, but it doesn't stand out as one obviously identifiable spice. I don't think there's any vanilla, thankfully, though there's a bit of that medicinal edge of an oud, or of certain sandalwoods. This stuff is really nice, and it would be a thumbs-up if it were stronger. By the end, though, it decays further toward just being a trace of dustiness. Too bad. And I agree with the last review that it is unisex but leaning masculine.

I can say that Bois de Filao is an unisex scent, and it sounds better on me than on my husband. I feel fresh citruses mostly blended with a little sweetnes and watery papyrus notes. I don't notica any patchouli or spices. The sillage power is weak on me. I can feel it only very close to skin after 2-3 hours. Overall it's a refreshing light summer scent, good for daywear. You can wear it to the office or on vacation.

Gorgeous woody and mysterious....I know it’s marketed to men but it’s perfectly unisex. Not getting any rogue patchouli that’s put others off. - just a dry soft wood with musky floral overtones. I think this would make the perfect office fragrance, it’s elegant and composed. Average to moderate projection, and lasts about 6 hours.

Just got this. It's the perfect everyday unisex creamy citrus woody. Very nice, will definitely become a staple.

Comptoir Sud Pacifique is a mystery house to me. The made-for-women perfumes nearly all smell too sweet and foody. The made-for-men perfumes seem to be obviously unisex, and they generally smell very good. BOIS DE FILAO is no exception to the rule. I noticed that most of the Parfumo members who own this perfume are women, so clearly my sense that this creation is truly unisex--not appropriate only or best suited for men--appears to be shared by others. This particular scent features papyrus, which I've found recently in a number of niche perfumes, and here it really works with the violet leaf and the clean musk and the amber. There are no flowers. To my nose, this is almost a skin scent. Okay, it's true my skin unadorned does not smell like papyrus. The combination of notes is really quite likeable and uncommon. Think Amouage OPUS perfumes, but dial down the intensity and the citrus and the green elements. BOIS DE FILAO is not bitter or musty at all. It smells to me like a big book made out of fresh papyrus in which violet leaves have been pressed. I wish that I knew more about this mysterious house. They seem to do no marketing whatsoever. My understanding is that Pierre Montale was somehow implicated early on, which would explain in part the aloofness, the aluminum bottles, and also the niche-esque quality of most of the CSP made-for-men perfumes. There really is a huge distinction in quality between the sweet tropical perfumes and the woody perfumes of this house. Adding to the mystery, I have never seen these perfumes for sale anywhere but online. They are either sold at niche emporia for full MSRP or at discounters for a fraction of MSRP. My bottles I acquired blind for TJMAXX-like prices (though I've never seen any of these there). Do I think that they are worth MSRP? To be honest, I'm not sure. They are a fantastic value, however, when purchased at deep discount, because they do smell much better than mainstream vat-produced chemical soup. I also recently realized that Comptoir Sud Pacifique was a concept house long before any of the others, including Scents of Departure, which has also tried to float the vacation perfume idea in recent times...

Ohh this is unisex, but leaning towards masculine. Starts with fresh woody + bergamot before it moves to pink pepper after about an hour or so. And after 3-4 hours it dries down to a light amber with a hint of musky patchouli. It last long, about 7-8 hours with a pretty good silage. You don't need to re-apply in the afternoon, and that's great. Overall it's really a good scent. I bought it blind online and I'm glad I did.

Oops! I had no idea it was for men. I wore it and loved it. I received many compliments. Definitely Peppery-Woody-Floral
