Coeur de Vahine

A very sweet scent but unique. Doesn't give me headaches like sweet fragrances usually do. I'm a fan of comptoir sud pacifiques fragrances anyways lol

I was excited at the chance to test Coeur de Vahine, because the note pyramid looks really enticing to me: such an overload of delicious, juicy, tropical fruits! And I do like it, although it's really nothing like I imagined: it's all about the tropical fruits alright, but instead of the bright and juicy vibe I was expecting, it has more of a powdery feel to it, even a little dry. Must be the vanilla working its influence from the very start, even though it doesn't come to the foreground of the fragrance until much later. This makes the scent as a whole more reminiscent of fruity candies than actual fruits - in fact, what it reminds me of most of all is that edible paper that used to be one of the least popular options in candy shops when I was small (I wonder if they still make it?). Which isn't to say it's bad, it's actually a lot nicer than it sounds! It's quite subdued compared to some of Comptoir Sud Pacifique's other offerings, which is nice, because sometimes this house's typical nuclear-level sweetness and projection can be a bit too much for me, especially in the warmer months. And it does last all day, with the vanilla becoming more and more dominant until there's nothing left but a rather generic but very nice fruity/vanilla base. On reflection, I don't think I love this one quite enough to crave more, which is a relief since I don't think it's in production anymore - but I'm very glad I got to satisfy my curiosity.

This is a sweet, fresh and fruity fragrance, perfect for summer. It has a similar "tropical cocktail" vibe to the Escada summer fragrances, just less generic. Fun and girly. It's a mix of juicy fruits, especially paisson fruit, and light tropical white flowers. For some reason I smell a very faint cinnamon-y undertone, even though that's not in the notes, and something like powdered sugar on the juicy fruits. It definitely has some warmth underneath the freshness, that comes out best in the heat. Projection and longevity are just average, but I think that's better on hot days anyway.

Though a fan of CSP, I didn't fall in love with this one. I wish it had been more fruity and vanilla-smelling, but the undertone that was left after the dry down was too powdery, cloying and heavy for me and I got a headache after a while. Still, I can't say I dislike it, it's just not for me.
