Human

This was one of 8 samples I bought from scentsplit to try out, was looking for particular interesting and unique fragrances as I'm a beginner to niche fragrance and was curious just how weird they could get. Picked this one through searching "mushroom" and when I read the crazy notes listed I couldn't say no to trying, what the hell could "plastic bag" and "concrete" possibly mean after all? I was expecting this to be cold, astringent, maybe even offensive based on descriptions/notes, maybe something similar to the tech dystopia of ghost in the shell. What I got was NOTHING close to that. Nothing about it is off-putting cloying or offensive to me. All attempts at descriptions fail this fragrance but I will try my best. First impression (pre dry down): brain screams "cinnamon glass/ice" 🤷 warmth with something cold, hard and clear. Immediately get a sense of "warmth" the same way you could from cinnamon/vanilla, without smelling like either of those at all. At the same time you're met with a "creamy coolness" in the same way a peppermint candy cane could be described that way, again, completely without having any minty/mint leaf/spearmint scent at all. I was another reviewer say Anise note which must be the same thing I'm talking about, but it doesn't have that licoricey scent, just the coolness. Dry down: extremely warm, skin, intimate, human, insanely sexy while at the same time nostalgic, comforting. Perfectly unisex, smells like your mother when you were a little kid and having nightmares and crawled into her bed, also smells like the expensive perfume on your sugar daddy's skin post coitus. If my date wore this is probably go feral no matter what their sex/gender. I do get the "mushroom" note but if it weren't for the notes for me to read I'm not sure I would place it that way. Mushroom to me can be quite metallic and I wasn't getting that from this. Does it smell like plastic bag? Kind of? If plastic bags smelled fucking amazing. Musk, moss, iris and matcha all makes sense, it has a very hard to place grounded earthy note. Not getting as much chalk and concrete as I would have expected/liked. As unlike plastic bag, those two have very discticted placeable scents. I was down for this to be a bit more nasty, as humans can be, both grit and warmth, but it's honestly just all pleasant. To me it's very much a sexy night time, fall/winter cocktail bar type of fragrance, can't image it suiting a day at the beach in summer. It is something that I wanted to stick my nose in all day but it's projection was a little better than that, it could be smelled at arm's length. I was very happy with the longevity too. About 8 hours strong. This might be my new signature scent. Best of all 8 I got from scentsplit (others were White Whale, Golden Kiwi, Poudrextase, liquid illusion, pony boy, angels share, a Grove by the sea) I got from "Human" what was promised by Poudrextase. Haven't even bought a bottle yet and I'm already worried they might discontinue it one day then I won't know what to do with myself. Overall a 10/10, a masterpiece in fragrance. Totally unique and extremely hard to place. A total enigma that you can't stop thinking about. Don't be put off by the weird notes like concrete chalk and plastic bag, I feel like they've been greatly exaggerated. Definitely worth sampling if you want something unique and totally unisex.

This perfume is a creature of a thousand faces. If you stick around long enough, you can smell all the notes mentioned, - but also so, so much more. As soon as you think you have pinned it out, it becomes something else. In the first ten minutes, it has been musky, pink floral, green grassiness of matcha, then a mix of spices, and after that - dry wood on my hand. It's like looking inside a caleudosсope that keeps turning without you touching it. Like a life flashing before your eyes, all the fragrances you've ever and never smelled, replacing each other in whiffs. I have no idea how they did it, but the impression is incredible. "Unique" is not descriptive enough. "Human" is a signature fragrance for a person who is against a concept of signature fragrances. For a general perfume lover though, I'm not sure it is a fragrance you buy to wear, but this is certainly a fragrance you need to experience at least once in your life. They have samples on the Contradictions in ILK's website, so I don't see any reason why not. P.S. I feel the need to mention that it does not project. You need to stick your nose into your wrist to smell it. As a romantic, I can say that it adds to its magic and personal nature, like a wonderful room you can only see through a tiny keyhole. As a pragmatic, I feel obliged to tell you that smelling it is an effort. It stays on skin for a while though.

Human hits with this crisp, green opening that feels a little gingery and leafy, but there’s also this light concrete vibe underneath it right away—like clean air mixed with something manufactured. It quickly shifts into a deeper, chalky green heart where matcha takes over, kind of dry and earthy but also oddly powdery, with iris softening it and this strange plastic-bag note that makes it feel super artificial in a deliberate way. As it settles, it turns into this skin-like base of salt, musk, and moss with a bit of creamy sandalwood underneath, giving it that clean-but-lived-in feel. Overall it smells like human warmth filtered through concrete and synthetic materials—fresh, a little weird, a little cold, but still intimate in a strange way.

This is my favorite and signature scent... I love the wet cement smell that takes over once sprayed. Erie and yet devine. I mix this gently with another scent I search for to compliment it. The projection is low and that saddens me since it's so good I want everyone to smell. I also feel as if the scent doesn't last long. AR least not the intense top notes that occur when you first spray. That being said. No one else purchase this. I need enough to last me till the end of my life.

Love love love this one. It's a chameleon. Perfectly balanced. It comes across creamy or milky, sweet, musky, earthy, warm spicy, like a tobacco vanilla, few of which are listed ingredients. Any two of the notes in combination make more than the sum of their parts. Inspired choices.

I noticed there aren't any reviews for this yet, and since I'm testing it today I thought I would share my two cents. For me, the overall impression is fresh (probably the green tea note). I don't smell ginger, and I don't smell plastic bag (!). Maybe a bit of concrete. It's a subtle scent, and difficult to label. I think 'human' is the best way to describe it, actually. I offered it to my husband to sniff on my wrist, and without me explaining anything about it (the notes, what it's called) he says, unprompted, "It smells like you!" So, yes - very human indeed :)

This is interesting! It’s a salty aquatic scent with a touch of dry floral notes and aromatic herbs. For me it rather smells like a place (some place close to the seaside and green fields) than a personal scent. It’s still nice and refreshing, but different.

there's a licorice/anise type note in the opening that I don't see listed anywhere! it's probably the ginger tbh..aromatic sweetness. I don't get sandalwood at all... definitely musk/skin/moss though. definitely combined with powdery-ness though I can't pick up specifically on any of those notes. I'm excited to wear this again! It's super pleasant though I don't think I'd buy a fb

I'm no fragrance connoisseur, but when the notes say 'chalk', 'concrete', 'plastic bag' and 'skin', I make sure I'm far away. Far far away.
