Coco Coco

Today I finally decided to test out a sample of this that I purchased from Lucky Scent. Now I have to admit the opening was very unexpected: a robust, astringent blast of something very sharp and very green, almost chemical--almost unpleasant. My immediate thought was cleaning agents, and turpentine dare I say. So for the first 10-15 minutes, I wafted instead of directly breathing it in--much better. After about 20 minutes, I started smelling something that made me think of salt water. This transitioned and mixed with hints of coconut, fresh I would say-- I lean toward raw coconut, just cracked open. It's definitely not creamy. After roughly 30-45 minutes, the smell was that of subdued green notes and fresh (raw) coconut mixed with hints of something reminiscent of salt water. After 45 minutes to an hour, it became sweet--I almost smelled the impression of banana (BARELY). It was a sweet smelling coconut with vague impressions of salt water, greenness, and a tropical impression--I swear banana. It smelled so goooood to me! Much later in the evening I finally figured out why. It's because this fragrance smelled exactly like the old school scent that the sunscreens and tanning oils from Hawaiian Tropic used to have. I'm talking back in the 90s before they reformulated that signature smell. In summary, to me, this perfume smelled like Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen (the scent from the 90s) warmed by the summer sun on the skin whilst at the beach. So freaking nice, so many good memories! If you can't guess, I absolutely adore this. I actually dumped my entire sample on my laptop while typing this and then proceeded to frantically attempt to salvage as much as I could like a desperate crazy person. I guess what I urge you to do is put this on your skin and let it come to your nose, especially the first 25-30 minutes. Overall it's actually quite lovely and nostalgic.

Y'all. Wear this in HOT and humid weather. This is made for the south/island weather. When I spray indoors it's very linear and sunscreen..however after some time in 90 heat and 70% humidity..this just opens and blossoms..it starts green and aquatic..and then I get almost a magnolia / jasmine floral and then continues to envelop me in a green coconut. Delightfully blended too...usually those florals don't smell great on my body chemistry. Lasts about 4 hrs in this heat and get compliments as the projection is soft and people compliment when you go in for a hug. Love that it's not childish coconut scent as it's much more green leaning..and doesnt smell like sunscreen or overly floral or resinous like some summer/coconut scents can turn on my skin. Trust me, let your skin warm up and sweat a bit..and on clothes lasts for a day and where the coconut shines! You'll change your mind.

I saw this perfume has very few votes or reviews and apparently a lot of haters so I am writing my first review ever for this frag. My sister took a liking to it when we perused Luck Scent's Scent Bar while she was visiting me in LA. We grew up in CA and now she lives in Oregon, so when her birthday came I got her the bottle as a nice reminder of CA summer. Neither of us get the chemical cleaner opening people speak of in the reviews here. It's a lovely tropical coconut that is complex and sophisticated enough to wear away from the beach. If you're a fan of coconut but all grown up and need a coconut scent that is very wearable even in a sophisticated setting but also still brings that carefree whimsy of summer vacations, this is a great one. I like it much better than the Comptoir Sud Pacifique coconut/tropical frags.

I just tested Coco Coco and I can see how this is polarizing, but overall, I enjoy it! A lot of people are mentioning it's synthetic, but I really only got that in the first 5 min. After that it actually turned quite natural and lush. As for the scent itself, to me it's like a soapy coconut. Soapy coming from the green notes. It's like being in a lush tropical rain forest while sipping on a coconut concoction. Not for everyone, but I think it's worth a try if you're into green tropical vibes.

i'm pleasantly surprised. this is my whole childhood growing up on a tropical island - night blooming cereus, warm wind, a slight drizzle, green leaves, and mischief. the coconut is there, but barely. i may need to buy a full bottle just for nostalgia's sake.

Very interesting. A camphorous coconut that is like camphor and creamy tuberose combined. Unique take on the beach vibe. Also a little salty. I like it a lot.

Wow, that opening is a harsh green, floral thing! I didn’t dislike this when I first put it on, but the coconut wasn’t front and center, and the green notes were almost sharp. However, I then went to walk my dog in the heat, and this perfume on my arm just blossomed: I keep getting wafts of a freshly opened, very young coconut mixed with really luxurious suntan lotion on a hot beach. This is an island getaway in a bottle. Not my cup of tea, really, but I can appreciate this for what it is, and on someone else, I would love it. If I were planning a trip to a beach in the near future, I would definitely consider buying this.

Sweet coconuts with green notes. It smells like the outer shell of a young coconut, the most delicious type of coconut in my opinion with that delicious soft jelly. Sunscreen vibes too. - --------- Review for Fleur Des Iles It's a very well done, long-lasting musky, green white floral. Nothing indolic. It's not special but I love how powerful it is at the start and I love that FDI doesn't turn on paper or skin. It stays beautiful throughout the wear.

You know how your hair smells after you've spent a day swimming at the beach? This is that scent EXACTLY. That's why I bought this fragrance! It's uncanny. Someone else mentioned a kind of dirty smell and I think I see that. It isn't a clean coconut, it's a sandy airy salty one. I love it.

Straight Hawaiian tropic sun screen. Pure sweet watery coconut. I absolutely loooove that scent but I’ll stick to paying for the bottle of lotion vs $125 for a bottle on perfume.

like a more grown up version of the vacation sunscreen perfume. super wearable, there’s a prominent jasmine note that’s lovely with the coconut

So here’s the thing. I get the tire shop. I do. But that wasn’t my first thought the first 2-3 times I tried this. My first thought was “wow! What a spectacular coconut.” I get tire shop/coconut. Here’s the funny thing. I saw there were some pretty negative reviews. I assumed those were about the dry down . Why? The dry down smells like oil, unwashed hair. That’s a pretty unsettling scent. After maybe 20 minutes, the perfume shimmers between unwashed hair and gas station soap (no more tire shop!). I vacillate between really liking this and being borderline repulsed. Might get a bottle. We’ll see! All tests have been on skin. I’d be curious to see how this performs on clothes in warm weather.

For the price I think this is a decent coconut fragrance, I think its OKAY. Virgin Island Water yes its way more money, but I still cant find a better coconut fragrance that that. This smells sort of like in between a nice home scent/candle and a fragrance. There are moments that I get a whiff and think I smell nice but other whiffs makes me think I am a walking luxury candle. I guess nothing wrong with that if you haven't smelled something much better. The search for next best coconut fragrance, continues .... IG @VirginNose

I haven’t worn this yet, so we’ll see how/if it evolves but from the bottle I get coconut and lime. I understand why some reviewers say it smells like a bathroom spray...I wish it was more of a linear, simple, creamy coconut. My husband smelled it and said he likes it (which is rare) and that it smells like coconut beachy sunscreen pina colada.

Couldn't suffer through the opening. I believe that after some time this fragrance develops into something tropical and very pretty, but that opening blast to me smells very bad, like imported dollar-store plastic - the kind of odor you worry about and shield your kids from (unlike the (possibly) less offensive naphthalene-like smell in that same category, this one is the earthy, leathery type of synthetic chemical dollar-store odor).. I actually haven't been to those stores in ages, but the smells are so distinct I still remember them very well. I tried the perfume twice - the first time scrubbing right away, and the second time I did wait it out but the result to me isn't worth it. There are other coconut scents out there which I prefer from the very first spray.

I love coconut and don't mind weird rubbery/camphor scents sometimes, so I was really thinking I would enjoy this, but sadly I have to agree with most of the reviews on here. The coconut is nice and ever-present, but it takes a backseat to the "green notes" listed that oscillate between rubber tires and industrial cleaner. :( Makes me imagine I am forced to spend the day at a tire shop after blowing out all four tires BUT am on a tropical vacation and am slathered in suntan lotion. So not ALL bad, but not really good either.

I assumed I was going to love this, being a green coconut scent, but thank goodness I sampled it first rather than blind buying. It smells very synthetic, like an automatic coconut/tiare/tropical floral industrial deodorizer spray dispenser. Big pass. Skip this, and try Heeley Coccobello for a more natural green coconut that is not too sweet.

Ah man, I thought this fragrance was going to be my jam because I love, love, LOVE coconut. Unfortunately, I have to echo what the majority of others have said...that darned rubber tires/plasticky note....makes it a nope for me.

Sunscreen bomb, got no coconut whatsoever, based off the notes I was hoping for an earthy coconut or a hyperrealistic coconut pulp smell. Got nothing but a chemically sunscreen scent, was so disappointing.

I wanted to love this, I really did. But it's downright nasty. It smells like some kind of cleaning solvent with a vague, twisted nod to coconuts. Possibly the worst fragrance I've ever smelled.

Astringent, household cleaner mixed with coconut suntan lotion. Drydown gets softer, but you have to put up with some awful chemical "green" notes to get there. It's not my thing.

Smells like suntan lotion. From the Dollar Store. That went bad. Industrial strength migraine inducer. Proof that niche can suck as bad as any designer or celebrity fragrance.

Strong blast of green notes at first. Dries down to creamy coconut scent which is quite pleasant, smells very similar to Body Shop Coconut shower gel.

I was so shocked by the immediate blast--all I could think of was mothballs. Too unpleasant to wait for the drydown, it was immediately scrubbed.

At first I liked it, basically just coconut, not terribly sweet or dry. Later I tried it again and was disappointed by a chemical note in it.

Fragrance is subjective, and this could be lovely to someone else, but it’s not what I hoped for. I love most coconut scents, even those that smell “synthetic”, and especially those that smell like sunscreen. I’m not picky with coconut and it’s hard to mess up for me. But this one is difficult. I wanted to love this. On paper it wasn’t too bad. But on my skin, there’s like a rubbery scent that turns my stomach. It’s a creamy coconut fragrance overall, but something about it just smells so much like rubber to me.

Unutterably disgusting. Smells like sour skin. Left in a basement under a tarp. It rubs the lotion on its skin. 🤮

I tried this, but the weird overly chemical perfume is terrible. I put this on and had to change my clothing.

Note: this is a review very reflective of the time during which it was written, being in August of 2021. It is my dearest wish that in a few short years, no one even knows what I am talking about. Coqui Coqui Coco Coco, is probably the most interesting coconut fragrance I have ever encountered. I don’t get suntan oil or pina coladas, which on one hand is refreshing, but on the other hand...I don’t know if I really care for what I do get from it. There’s an acrid camphorous greenness, florals in the form of an oily tuberose, a tea-like champaca flower and a strange salty, rubbery aspect, that brings to mind slathering yourself in coconut oil on a sweaty summer day and hopping in an inner tube to float down the lazy river in a particularly unhygienic waterpark. This could be a summer scent for someone, I guess? Maybe people who make a stink about their freedoms being impeded when they are asked to vaccinate or wear a mask, and who bring their bratty brood to Adventure Lagoon in the middle of a pandemic and spend the next 12 hours screaming and spitting and peeing on everything. Ok, now that I have said that I have decided that this is the scent of the weirdly scented air freshener at the funeral home where these people’s corpses end up. Wow, this went to a dark place. Wear your masks. Get vaccinated when you have the opportunity. Don’t be the reason your local funeral home smells creepier and more crowded than it actually does.

I am a huge fan of anything that smells of "vacation." My propensity towards anything coconut might bias me in the case of this perfume. However, it should be noted that every time I wear this fragrance, people come out of the woodwork to smell me and find out what it is. They cannot get enough of it and try anything to get close to me. Personally, I love the unique take on coconut in this creation. It is not "on the nose" like many others, nor is it too green. It is not a sweetened, toasted coconut scent but rather a creamy coconut mixed with sea salt and a little bit of sunscreen. This smells like skin after sitting on the beach in Hawaii for a day. It is in the family of Bond 9 Fire Island but with a bit more coconut and minus the sting of the hairspray accord in Fire Island. You shouldn't judge this until it has time to catch a breath out of the bottle. I mix it with Tom Ford Orchid Soleil for the most divine cloud of perfumed loveliness imaginable. Did I mention I am on my third bottle in 8 months? This is my go-to on warm weather days, of which there are plenty in SoCal.

I have such mixed feelings about this one. The coconut that lives in the background of this is the perfect coconut, not sweet and cloying, not reminiscent of suntan lotion, just beautiful, airy, ripe, fresh coconut. The problem is that green note, and it's aggressive! It reminds me of dish soap, very sharp, acrid. I can't get past it, even though it fades and becomes less pungent after 20-30 minutes, it remains throughout and spoils the perfect coconut. I've used my sample a couple times now, each one hoping that I don't have that reaction, but alas, it's there every time. I implore Coqui Coqui to release a reformulation of this with just the coconut alone, you have a guaranteed customer here.

Realistic coconut. Creamy, fresh, subtle. This smells like coconut without any sweetness or synthetic notes. It opens smelling like more of a "young coconut", but then settles down smoothly. Projection is subtle, it quicky becomes a second skin fragrance. This smells effortless and tropical.

The tire smell disappeared after a couple of minutes. This is unlike any fake coconut perfume . I find it very authentic smelling, like a fresh opened coconut spilled on warm skin with sunscreen

I usually love all sorts of coconut scents...but this...this is not it. Think: coconut air fresher in a gas station public bathroom. Immediately no. Way, way too harsh. Way too much.

I asked Lucky Scent to find me a unique coconut scent and well, they did, but it smells like white musk, cotton musk, and coconut. I thought it was a strange combo and not my vibe.

Oh no - what a great coconut there is inside this!, but why does it have a note that swings between sun tan and rubber :---((
