La Voce Renee Fleming

Why aren’t there more reviews for this glorious scent!??? Also- it’s been in the Scent Beauty Courreges dupe bottle for many years now- odd Fragrantica doesn’t list that one or update this page with the new bottle? Anyway- ugh I love this so much. It’s dreamy. Tart passion fruit, chocolate & coffee. Longevity is excellent and a surprisingly good value even though it’s 50ml for $100. I rarely see it discounted but it’s unusual & lasts long enough to make it worth it. PS this deranged Gigi character needs to return with the festive reviews lolz.

It's very feminine & elegant. I can't say I've smelled any other "exactly" like it so that's good. It does remind me of something though, but I can't recall what it is. The "smells like" selections are just wrong imo. It's not overwhelmingly chocolate or fruity...just right. I mostly am getting the ebony wood, which I love & the jasmine, lily of the valley florals. There is an earthiness that's the truffles I'm guessing. Thank you, Carlos Benaim & Ann Gottlieb with Renee Fleming & Coty for this creation. Lovely! ❤️

I was there at the Met when this fragrance was launched. Renee Fleming, world famous New York opera singer, debuted her first (and only) perfume on September 22, 2008 during the celebrations for the 125th Anniversary of the Metropolitan Opera. She is not the first opera singer to put a face to a fragrance. In 1995, Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti had 2 fragrance: Pavarotti for Men and Donna for women. Both frags were successful in Italy but not in the US. Fleming teamed up with perfumer producer Carlos Benaim who had been responsible for the production of Elizabeth Taylor's first fragrance, Passion, in 1987. Ann Gottlieb created La Voce for Renee Fleming as a fragrant description of her voice: warm, rich, dark, and sweet. The debut was also a night of fashion and glamour. Some beautiful fashions were modeled and made by designers John Galliano and Karl Lagerfield, each who have successful fragrances of their own (I.E. Sun Moon Stars, Galliano). Around the time Fleming launched her fragrance, you were allowed to sample the perfume and decide whether or not to buy it. It was selling at the gift shop! LOL La Voce (Italian for the Voice, and referring to the Voice of Renee Fleming, but in operatic parlance refers to any opera singer's voice or technique) starts off with some passion fruit. It's not very intense and rather subdued. The tuber is much stronger. It's very creamy and rich. The heart has two white flowers: jasmine and lily of the valley. Even with two classic white floral scents, this never did become a floral fragrance. It stays mostly sweet in the gourmand sort of way. The base notes have dark chocolate and ebony wood. I can detect the chocolate which combined with tuber smells like chocolate flavored yogurt. This is a dessert type fragrance. It was very expensive but disappeared really fast so it was not worth the money, unless you're a hardcore fan of Miss Fleming. I didn't buy it but my opera fanatic friend Angela purchased it and let me borrow it. I wore it at the Met one time to see Renee Fleming as Manon. She never wore this perfume. No big surprise there as most celebrities do not wear their own fragrances. No one else who attended the opera at the Met wore this fragrance either. There was a lot of hype and excitement upon it's release but it never really caught the public's interest. It's not much of a fragrance. It's a simple, sweet gourmand dessert not unlike La Vie Est Belle by Lancome. If you like that sort of thing for your perfume you should try this one. It's been discontinued but it sells on ebay as vials and roll-ons. I wasn't particularly impressed with it. It's almost as cheap and dull as Fame by Lady Gaga. And no surprise there because this fragrance was sold to Coty to release to the mass market. Coty has become such a joke and their fragrances aren't anything like the masterpieces it used to create. I think La Voce is an ok scent but it's just not wearabe as perfume for the opera. I had hoped that this would be a luxurious, multi note fragrance along the lines of a floral chypre (flowers and woods) or at least a well made fruity floral. It smells really good and sweet but I'd rather get more out of it for a fragrance that is supposed to evoke the glamorous world of opera. My friend Angela loves it and still wears it. I think she's the only woman wearing this fragrance right now LOL

Renee Fleming is a great voice of opera,and this perfume is a great perfume.Is warm,sweet ,a little metallic(from the lily of the valley),and to the end,it calms down with the woody notes.The perfume is a description of Renee Fleming voice,the name don't lies!With this fragrance you can imagine yourself stepping into the Metropolitan Opera House,with an elegant dress,overwhelmed by the light of the magnificent chandeliers .Then you go into the wonderful world of Traviata,Tosca,La Rondine or other brilliant masterpieces.It's clearly a perfume for an amazing evening to the opera!

You can still buy this fragrance from the Met and other online retailers. I'm extremely curious about the chocolate and passion fruit together. The bottle has changed from what's pictured here. Now it looks like a Courreges bottle.
