Masumi

I absolutely adore this perfume! From the first time I used it I fell inlove and it's a love story that never died. The only problem is that I cannot find it on the market anymore :( I have just a few drops left in an old bottle that I keep for a really special time, but I anyone knows where I could buy it, please let me know. Thank you. Honestly on me it's more woody and musky, very persistent but it has nothing in comon with Chanel No.5. That's an entirely synthetic fragrance, (impossibly so for my taste) sweet, whereas Masumi has not a single sweet note. vanilla and spices toghether cancel the sweetness. It is heavy so I do not recommend it for the summer, maybe for an evening, but it is a stretch. By feminine I do not understand sweet and so to me it is one of the most classy, feminine and distinguished frangrances ever encountered. It smells much more "expensive" than it actually was - I say "was" because I haven't seen it for a long time.

Masumi cologne is a gem from the less-lauded 60s era of Coty, a spicy green rose that begins with an astringency but then softens among a substrate of lily of the valley and other florals. It is woody, mossy, powdery, and has a distinct tarragon note, fusing the florals to the musky, almost smoky amber base. I frankly was surprised by its quality and beauty, given that this was a time where Coty is thought to have fallen somewhat from grace, but it does sing a serene song with some naturalism and cohesiveness. The cologne is potent for its alleged concentration—its base can still be detected, hugging my skin, eight hours after application.

A gorgeous rich classic perfume of its vintage. I know it through the bottles I was able to buy through ebay when ebay was full of vintage perfume. It is deep, complex, and to me, very satisfying. I'll write more about it when I dig out my bottles again. I have so much perfume that it gets stored in about 3 different places in my home, and when I'm too busy, I end up just grabbing whatever is handiest.

This one will forever remind me of my mum. She used to wear it back in 80's and back then it was on pricey point.. so she had it for special occasions.Sometimes when I'm shopping in small perfume shop a I like to smell it as it brings memories. It is outdated smell and very musky but still I love it

Similar to the lines of the fragrances of Avon's "Here's My Heart" and " Somewhere" it has that vibe about it...... That one distinct note to it..... Follow up..... OMG , I have it on now at it is screaming "Angelfire" a scent Mary Kay had out years back.... Very strange.....

I got the newest Masumi von Prism. And i am so happy- exactly the same, delicious, ethereal beauty, as in my youth !!!! The projection and longevity is huge, my best christmas gift for myself so far, i am so happy!! This woody, juicy- chypre beauty is back !!!!

PLEASE...OH PLEASE tell me where I can find a bottle of this.... had it in my youth and have never forgotten this exquisite, mysterious fragrance. I'm in the UK and need to get my hands on a bottle soon..... HELP!!

i am jusing this parfun early 70's and i loved.the name of parfym stay mine heard and nose.i like woody scenes.they are not too femine and floral.MIE

Two thumbs up for this blind buy of a vintage 1970's EDT. This is a powdery chypre with wood, amber and oakmoss. At the beginning I also smell violet, rose, a bit of bergamot, but that fades away quickly. A lovely scent like an early morning walk through the woods!

I bought it when I was 18 and it was my mistake. This perfume is too strong and mature to young girls. It reminded me with beautiful, independent, mysterious and sensual woman ...as advertised. I wonder if the smell delighted me today.

Not sure I'd agree with categorizing this as a chypre because of the lack of labdanum and quiet patchouli. The waterlily is missing from the scent notes. The original 60s and 70s versions showcased the waterlily note, which is exquisite and realistic. It's really beautiful and natural smelling, but the synthetic citrus and the high dose of civet/castoreum kind of prevents me from wearing it. My skin has a habit of majorly amplifying those notes and it smells way too fecal/unwashed on me. With that said, this is really beautiful. If they relaunched the original formula and majorly scaled back the animalics, this would be quite popular. The pineapple waterlily is a great combo you rarely find now. I sure miss Coty's old level of quality. Very concentrated and lasts a long time. Batches vary heavily by era, so make sure you find properly stored pieces and go for the earlier bottles if you're looking for that lovely aquatic floral note.

Oh, no, what happened to this beautiful fragrance?! Today I reassured myself that the reformulation is the worst thing that could ever happen to a perfume. Now Masumi is like every mediocre heavy and soapy smelling suffocating perfume. Similar to Giorgio Beverly Hills. Why, Coty, whyyy? OMG! Hour after the initial spritz, this smells like smoke! It's like walking in the woods through a thick fog.

I finally got myself a massive vintage bottle of this perfume. My review is for the vintage formula in the EDC. Like most perfumes of the 60's/70's it opens with a huge blast of sharp and headache inducing aldehydes. Within about 20 minutes, this settles into that old familiar smell that I remember from my childhood. Citrus and rose mingle with fruity notes which eventually settle into a creamy violet and rose and the whole composition settles into that oh so familiar, mossy, woody, true chypre smell, which is softened by sweet vanilla and then is freshened with musk. This perfume was a real trip down memory lane and indeed it smelled very good considering its age, but I wouldn't wear this regularly, perhaps only in my house, when I am alone, so I can remember times gone by and wallow in my solitude and memories. The longevity is dreadfully poor, but that could be due to the age of this fume. 1 hour maximum and it was gone.

This perfume reminds me of those my mother wore in the 60's. Along the lines of Tabu and Woodhue, Chanel No.5 even, though it may not share many notes with any of them. As a very young child I would sneak into her perfumes and sniff the bottles. I never liked them, but I remember them. The tiny sample bottle I just received appears to be vintage, though there are no dates on it. On my skin it is very, very, soapy. I don't smell pineapple or melon particularly; a little rose perhaps and bergamot and a lot of fragrant wood and oakmoss. It is pretty intense at first and the soapiness is off-putting. But as it dries down it softens and is quite lovely. I am not sure I would wear it often, but it is interesting as a relic of a different scent tradition and is still perfectly wearable...especially if you like your scents soapy.

I am reviewing the vintage cologne from the 1970s. I believe the notes on Fragrantica are quite wrong - there was no pineapple, melon, or cardamom in this fragrance. Where on earth are they getting these notes from?? Masumi smelled nothing like that. LOL. Here are the notes for Masumi from my 1984 H&R Guide: -Bergamot, Lemon, Orange, Coriander, Estragon -Lily, May Rose, Jasmine, Orris, Carnation, Lilac -Vetiver, Oakmoss, Musk, Labdanum, Benzoin, Amber This scent was a green chypre, with a very similar green accord to other fragrances of the late 60s & early 70s, such as Norell (cologne), Vivara by Pucci, Fidji by Guy LaRoche...Masumi was perhaps a tad bit rosier & woodier. I don't find the scent meditative like the vintage ads try to convey, but it's still a pretty scent, and very much of its era in terms of scent.

After many years of not really having the opportunity to smell it again, I finally got a sample (from my dear friend here) and I'm stunned! Well, the first notes of an elderly-auntie's wardrobe do persist but soon after they're gone, a beautiful, exotic, woody and spicy/herbal emerge and stay forever. Yeah, as the commercial said - "The wind's name is Masumi" - it's like some dry, oriental wind from the tropical forest... Amazing!!! I want this perfume so bad! I want it back!!!!!!!!!! Even if I were to use it once a year (that's what I probably would), it would still be worth it!

Hi everyone. I'm asking where can I buy a bottle of this perfume. My mom used to use it as a young lady. My grandpa used to bring it to her as a gift whenever he traveled to Europe, and she always mentions this as the best perfume she's ever used or smelled. I want to buy it to her as a gift, but I don't know where to find it. Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

I wore Masumi in the 70's and liked it very much. To me it was exotic. A friend said she liked it on others but it smelled like rotten eggs on her proving how different out body chemistry can be and our reaction to fragrance worn by ourselves and others.

The scent now is just a memory this was the first perfume i loved i wore this as a teenager. İ search an search for something that lives up to this but everything comes up short. Gone but never ever forgotten .

I got a cologne from the 70's. I don't particularly like the initial spray, but the dry down is reminiscent of Givenchy III. I like that for sure. Very long lasting for a cologne. 7 hours. This one is a keeper.

I was thinking of this the other day, such a beautiful fragrance and so hard to describe. It's such a shame they discontinued it. I'm on a quest to find it now and I shan't sleep until I do.

I have vintage eau de toilette and oh i love it. Smells powdery, woody and slightly green. Very calming, like a luxurious spa.

Masumi was a lovely perfume in the 70's....but, I've just noticed, is that young Jessica Lange in the press ad?
