Truly Lace

Got a mostly full bottle off eBay, blind. Oh my goodness this is delightful! It is creamy, like coconut milk cream sort of creamy. And lightly floral. Gentle, a bit sweet but not modern candy sweet. No. This is the subtle sweetness of old that is so lacking today. I am picky about fragrance, but this will be sticking around!

This was my mom's perfume in the early to mid 90s. I have fond memories of picking up the bottle and being enchanted by the beautiful label and seemingly magical liquid inside. I've been on something of a nostalgia trip, picking through eBay to get a hold of the scents of my childhood, and Truly Lace smells exactly as I remember. I'm new at this, I can't really pick out notes or breakdown this perfume for those who haven't already smelled it. It has a sharp quality when first sprayed which threw me for a second, but when I closed my eyes and inhaled it took me right back to being in grade school. Getting a massive hug from my mom as she finished getting ready for work -inhaling the smell of hair mousse, Truly Lace and carmex. The scent softens up considerably after a little while, letting some of the warmer aspects shine through. If I was introduced to it now, sans nostalgic value I would probably reject it put of hand with that initial stabbing sniff. I wouldn't describe it as "grandmotherly" but definitely mature. Maybe matronly is the word for it. No where near my cup of tea but I do wear it around the house now and then just because. ETA: I figured out the perfect metaphor for this perfume. Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. And that is indeed the very image of the woman for this perfume. Messy, Gibson girl hair, both soft and stern. A romantic view of days gone.

Yay! Finally this fragrance is on the database. I never owned Truly Lace for myself, but a friend of mine had it (she always wore this to school) when were teenagers and I remember it being a soft floral with a little bit of fruit to it. Very 90's.

This was my first venture into musky perfumes. It was a light white musk soaked in white florals and a touch of vanilla and amber. It was lovely and I'd give almost anything to smell it again.

A big, dense, honeyed, ambery white floral with tart fruits like peach and currant, some vanilla, and a powdery woodsy musk base. Orange blossom and jasmine are the dominant florals, but there are others; tuberose, lotv, ylang-ylang, hyacinth, rose, carnation... however there is not much in the way of progression from top to base. A catchall drugstore dupe for the viscous amber floral bombs of the 80s and 90s. Think of Boucheron, Beautiful, Sublime, Giorgio, 24 Faubourg. While it certainly smells good, it's not as distinctive as the perfumes it's duping.

My mom received it as a gift and didn't like it and I remember gladly taking it. I loved this scent when I was 13. About 6 months ago I came across a reasonable price one and got it. This is definitely a fragrance you need to spray on your skin to appreciate. I made the mistake of spraying it on tester paper and thinking uh no. What was I thinking when I was young. But I gave it a chance on my skin. Still at first it was sharp, off putting a bit, thought it might had gone bad. Then it faded and became a little fruity, kinda like can peaches or fruit cocktail. Roses followed smelling like dried potpourri a relative used to keep in a cedar chest. finally about 30 minutes later, down to a dusty vanilla. It might have gone off a bit, idk. I think it has been discontinued for some time now. Like I said I remember loving this perfume very much but now it's ok, I like it but don't see myself wearing it much.

The bottle is so pretty, lovely Victorian roses; leading one to believe that the contents would be just as lovely. Not so. I bought a bottle of Truly Lace when it first came out and really did not like it at all. I remember the vanilla in it and some other fairly forgettable bland notes, and I agree with "Malibu" that it was kind of a jumbled mess; pretty disappointing. Kind of a surprise, considering Coty usually makes some really nice fragrances. Just not this one...

I get mostly very nice florals in this ... lighter ones like lilac and freesia in the opening, making way for a denser tuberose-gardenia-carnation middle. It's not overly anything, but very pleasant --- no harsh, synthetic or jarring notes anywhere. Thy drydown isn't much different than the middle, and it fades rather quickly, but still quite lovely, even if not outstandingly memorable.

I have never worn this perfume, but my mother did back in the 90's. I like the scent simply because it reminds me of her. She passed away 8 years ago, and when I saw this up for review, it made me smile! I can't see myself wearing it and enjoying it, but just seeing the bottle triggered memories of it's scent and of my mother's face.

I remember this; my Mum had a bottle that I tried. I remember TRULY LACE as just being a plasticy jumble – I couldn’t separate any of the notes, I recall being upset with not being grown up enough to indentify the scent notes.

I remember it but my nose wishes so much to grasp that scent again. Why does Coty always discontinue such nice perfumes that they had.
