Evelyn Rose

I have the version that's just prior to the 2012 reformulation. Note: Not this ugly lookin' opaque bottle. It's the one with the clear glass with a silver cap and silver wordings. I love, love, love this scent. Its very rosey and peachy at the same time, which has made me fall in love with rose+peach perfumes. A lovely "rounded" fruity rose that is also green and fresh. There is no syrupy sweetness in this - just pure fruity rose. The dry down is rather soapy but I like it that way, because it makes me feel like I've been bathing in rose petals and rose scented soap. I envision this would be perfect for a young adult to someone in their 30s as it exudes elegance, youth and innocence. I have the EDP rollerball and the EDT and I'd save them up because I can't find them anymore. Such a heartbreak. Longevity wise around a good 4-5 hours on me. I love how it goes well with my body chemistry. Sillage is soft, like a secretly sexy scent waiting to be noticed. My little nephew loved hugging me when I had this on. I guess it is a comforting scent. PLEASE BRING THIS BACK, CRABTREE&EVELYN! Your reformulations and discontinuations of product are simply infuriating. Destruction of the loyal fan base you have, I'd say. ------- Tried the latest version at the store today. Unimpressed. Yes, it's rose all right, with hints of citrus and a noticeable powdery drydown. It's the same scent of Evelyn Rose like its previous formulation but has lost the peachy smell-- its companion, its complement. The peach balanced the rose out, makes it "rounded" and bubbly but now it's gone. I wouldn't buy the new version. The chunky opaque bottle also fills me with distaste. Oh, how I yearn for the old Evelyn Rose with its kisses of juicy peach!

I had the original Evelyn, and I truly, deeply, loved it. I wore it every day, to the point that even now, everyone who smells me assumes I'm wearing a rose scent. I know. Wearing citrus, but everyone always smells roses in what I'm wearing, without fail. I bought it because I had three of the Evelyn rosebushes in my rose collection and it was among my favorites. This scent was soft, warm, floral but not sweet, green but not sharp. It was , for me, perfect. I haven't had the courage to go try the reformulation. David Austin, the breeder of the Evelyn Rose died last year, and I am afraid he would be gravely disappointed, based on the things people have said about the gold bottle scent. I'd rather keep it as a perfect memory.

When my mother passed away, I kept a few of her perfumes and initially wore this one mainly for sentimental reasons as it reminded me of her and I felt close to her. However, now it has become a firm favourite of my rosy florals. I spray it onto my hair and this seems to give it much more lasting power (EDP). It always seems to remain fresh and although the peach peeps out, it never turns fruity or sickly sweet. I don't feel 'perfumed' when I wear it and I can guarantee compliments every time I wear it. I bought this in about 2011, it was in a clear glass bottle packaging. It's a very good quality beautiful, good performance and warm rose frag. I can say this is so much better than many so called niche parfum now a day, I personally think it's even better than FM une rose. I missed this soooo much, sadly it's been discontinued, I couldn't find it anywhere...I can only recall it from my memory...

A heavier cousin (IMO) to C&E's Rosewater, and it must be very popular because it seems as if it's always sold out! In terms of "rose intensity", I rate this firmly between Jo Malone's "Red Roses" and C&E's own "Rosewater". When I'm not out, it's the one I reach for when I want that middle ground between the heavy sensuality of "Red Roses" and the lighter breeziness of "Rosewater".

Crabtree and Evelyn produce some lovely fragrances, but why do they insist on changing their formulas unnecessarily? The original Evelyn Rose is beautiful...a classic, pure rose smell, light and powdery but long - lasting. If you are a fan of C&E florals, try and get hold of this version of the fragrance, I can absolutely recommend.

I've worn this perfume from its begining and I love it! I use every last drop. It is at its best when using the shower gel, lotion and then the perfume. Woods of Winser is the only thing close to this scent I have found. I just hope they never discontinue it.

It's good smell , classy rose , fresh ,long lasting my aunt in usa. gave it to me long time ago. I love this perfume but it's too bad that here in thailand can't find shop to buy

This smells beautiful. I was able to find the old formula of this. Very long lasting. Smells like fresh roses sniffed from the garden without the bugs in your nose. lol

I was also able to find this treasure at TJ Maxx for $6.99. What a gem!! I got the matte pink glass bottle version. I am pleased. Great Mother’s Day gift to myself.

I snapped up a bottle of Evelyn Rose Femme de Force today. Wish it had its own listing, because it is so different from the usual rose soliflore represented in traditional Evelyn Rose. This scent is incredibly spicy. First sniff smelled almost like straight black pepper to me. But the dry down is much soapier, with a very original, dry, and frankly unisex take on rose. Nothing sweet or cute here - just resinous spices with a very serious rose. I think this would be best in cooler weather and it might suit a masculine vibe better. Lovely nonetheless. Update: this and Prada Infusion d'iris are the only perfumes I can wear when my stomach is off - this is just such a clean, soothing scent.

This review is for the fragrance Evelyn Rose force de femme in the pink opaque bottle. This is a well constructed more complex rose fragrance which has notes which take it out of the realm of quasi soliflores. The green notes bergamot and Amber give this depth. They are discernible throughout performance. Longevity is 4-5 hours and sillage is moderate. Office friendly and suitable for events requiring closer contact with others. I like rose fragrances, but don’t need to be hit over the head by insistent call to “smell the roses, smell the roses.. “ I Prefer more subtlety. I can enjoy the rose throughout without overkill.

I like Evelyn rose because it's a good rendition of rose as soliflore. It's very easily wearable, feminine, quite elegant and not old lady. It stays stable for long time. I bought it on a sale and I wear it from time to time, even if my true love from Crabtree & Evelyn was Azzemour, the lightest, softer oriental scent I've found, now discontinued. Why??

Yes I like this, I have the EDT which is very nice, but lasting power is very very low, like no more than 30 minutes on me...It would be so beautiful in the EDP concentration I guess. It is a very delicate rose smell, like the one used in making jam roses, confiture de roses:), I can definitely sense the touch of peach which gives it a smooth sensation.

I had this scent and wore it till the end (which is seldom for me :) ). It's a nice rose for the day time and office. I felt comfortable with it at work. On me it also developed a licorice note, which can be nice but was also the reason why I didn't buy it a second time.

This is such a classic rose scent. I even bought the hand soap/hand lotion for my bathroom, and loved using it down to the last drop. This is for people who love rose in it's simplest form, not with a bunch of perfume-y notes blended in. It's rather fresh and sparkling.

A beautiful clean scent that lasts a long time. I wore this for a particular happy occasion and that memory really contributes to my love of this classic fragrance.

A really nice rose spring scent... So sad they changed the formula. WHY?!?!?!? Luckily I still have half a bottle left of the "old" one left...

Disappears so fast. Opens beautifully, with promise, but the promise breaks when the fragrance ups and leaves without a trace.

I get fresh green notes with some rose in the back- definitely not mad, but not the rose heavy cloud I was expecting

Please bring back the original formula of Evelyn Rose! People at C&E store are telling me that "it did not sell well at international level", so it had to be reformulated. "Reformulation", however, took away most of the noblesse of what used to be a wonderful fragrance, the best rose scent ever. The new version has been "obnoxified" to keep up with this evil world? What prevents C&E from reissuing "Evelyn Rose Original", given the outcry from all former fans with good taste?

Fragrance Review For Evelyn Rose Crabtree & Evelyn Notes Rose Green Notes Bergamot Peach Peony Jasmine Violet Amber Unlike their Rose Water, which is more my bag, this is a sweet green floral with a bit of fruit, and more in the vein of TEA ROSE PERFUMER'S WORKSHOP. They share some of the same notes: citrus, bergamot, rose, white floral (jasmine) and amber. This is a warm and almost Oriental type of rose with interesting touches and some flair but to me it was not as pretty as Rose Water. The opening is a green note with citrus. That bergamot orange is bland and ordinary. Smells like the same old citrusy opening in so many fragrances. The freshness is likeable but it's not as engaging as Rose Water which always makes you want to bathe in it. This is not a bath scent but more of an evening rose cologne. It matches with evening wear and dinner time. It's also autumnal. The citrus notes settle down and the rose emerges. She is a lovely rose but she's not alone. The jasmine and violet are detectable. This is a floral bouquet with roses but they threw in violets and jasmines. They are powdery and heady, though not headache inducing unless you spray liberally. The floral notes are lovely. If you like floral fragrances, this should scratch your itch. This perfume is also more fruitier than Rose Water. The differences are pretty big. The peach is delicious and very much like putting your nose to a peach with peach fuzz. Somehow, it's found it's match with the bergamot orange. Fruity and floral, but emphatically floral. As a rose perfumista, I've also discovered how beautifully paired the peach note and the rose note are together. Peaches and roses smell so good! This is the same kind of peach-rose scent you get from such frags as Arpege by Lanvin and Tresor by Lancôme. Powdery, peachy, and rose-scented feminine goodness. Evelyn is a demure and dainty English lady with roses in vases in her home. This is sophisticated but I still like the mesmerizing simplicity of Rose Water. Both scents can be worn by the same person. Both are lovely rose perfumes and can be worn in the same day. Rose Water as you draw your bath and take your bath in the morning, and Evelyn Rose in the afternoon or evening as you head out to dinner or to whatever you do at the end of your work day. I don’t know if this is the same Evelyn Rose scent that I have. The bottle says Evelyn Rose, Femme De Force scent, but the bottle is a matte pink glass with a delicate black little drawing and black wording, with a nice heavy black cap that is magnetic. I absolutely LOVE the bottle and the fragrance. The fragrance notes that are listed here aren’t all the fragrances listed on their website. The Crabtree & Evelyn website says: DESCRIPTION Our Femme de Force fragrance bottles up the fiery spirit of a rose and detonates attitude with every spray. • Bursts with Italian lemon, cassis and frankincense for a bold first impression. • Floral notes are surrounded by a warming blend of spiced nutmeg and cashmere woods. • Settles to a sensuous base of vetiver and musk. • Leaves a long-lasting impression. Rose fan here, so naturally I'm inclined to check this one out. I decided to get the real vintage versions nowadays. EDP: Pleasant Rose, a bit longer to wear and better silage than EDT. Slightly hairspray scent, soft zest in the right amounts. I can smell it by end of the day. EDT: My favorite version. So comforting close to skin rose, baby scent, fragrance just hugs you. Wears close to skin and longevity is 3-4 hrs, but I love this scent and it reminds me of my youth and those times. If you like the true soft rose, this is it. Because C&E has changed and new version is terrible. New version Review: Force de Femme I wasn't aware it seems to be drastically different than original Evelyn Rose. FdF is brashy citrussy mature rose geranium scent. Stern teacher back in the day where we all got bad marks and there is suspense and your stomach is in knots, because teacher in questions does not like you or anyone else. This is mature, stern, dry, tense perfume. Ingredients are cheap clearly. Does anyone know email contact for Crabtree&Evelyn since one listed doesn't work? Will they bring original scent back? So many reviewers love it and so do I. Some of their scents are amazing one a kind, so hoping for original scent return...

There needs to be a new listing for this new Evelyn Rose Femme de Force. I remember Evelyn Rose being a lovely, classic rose, a bit old-fashioned, a little powdery and sweet. I never owned it, but I do remember how it smelled. This new Evelyn Rose is something else altogether, and deserves its own listing. It starts with citrus and berry, spice and resin, before going to the rose. The rose is a spicy, earthy, woody rose, with an underlying musk at the base to tie everything together. This is not something I expected from C&E. This is a modern niche rose scent, but not in the vein of the overdone rose oud. I'm quite intrigued by this one, and I am looking forward to seeing how this wears in fall and winter. If you liked the classic Evelyn Rose, you might not like this one, but if you like unusual niche rose scents, this is quite the little treasure.

Oh, so disappointed in this. I purchased the "Evelyn Rose" labeled bottle from Ebay, it came with a TJ Maxx sticker on it. This review is for Evelyn Rose in the round cylindrical bottle with brushed gold cap. Really, this just smells like cheapish shampoo. I detect zero rose. I am a rose fan, so I was looking for something that smelled like actual roses. This does not. I buy perfumes at quite a lot of price points, and was looking for an everyday scent that could go well with anything. Just a nice wool cardigan of a scent. This is not it. This smells like one of those Target private label brand shampoos that is supposed to convince you it's 'premium' while carrying a $3.99 price tag. I'll save this one for those days where I'm painting a bedroom or something, so I can smell nice-ish, but not have to worry about 'wasting' a spray of Rose Ikebana.

There are actually three different versions of this scent. The first came out in the 90s called "Evelyn". The first reformulation in 2003 was called "Evelyn Rose" and the 2rd reformulation in 2012 was also called "Evelyn Rose". The first is easy to distinguish. It only says "Evelyn" at the bottom of the bottle and only comes in EDP. It apparently was a painstaking work to duplicate the smell of the rose that was named "Evelyn" which took 8 years. The second looks like the first in the glass bottle and silver cap, but says "Evelyn Rose". At this point other notes were added so it was no longer a soloflore. The third is in the newest bottle. I hope that someone can benefit from my hours of looking around the net.

My mother worked at Crabtree & Evelyn when I was young, and she'd come home smelling like Evelyn Rose. It reminds me of Victoria magazine, tiny molded soaps, pretty linen drawer paper, and soft-but-strong hugs. I don't want to spoil the strong memories of Evelyn Rose with regular wear, so I've been looking for similar rose scents. DKNY Pure Rose is quite close; it has the same plump, fresh-cut rose at the heart, less fruit, and less volume, for a more casual feel. It's like Evelyn Rose dialed back to 3/4 the strength. A good option for people missing the old Evelyn formulation (although the DKNY is getting hard to find).

The one I have is called Evelyn (the first edition of this) and it begins as an old-fashioned green rose and becomes a sparkling floral medley later. Longevity isn't great, but that's typical for many C&E frags. I'd rate it a like if it had its own listing. Ahhh Evelyn Rose- you are a beauty! Classic and feminine yet powerful! It begin with a story of tea roses and tuberose- then it peaks into a whipped creamy lychee white musky green note that become an aria of perfection. The dry down has an interesting finish- think of crisp white 1500 Tct sheets- yummy. It's a clear bright fragrance and does wonders for energy. Pair it with other florals and greens and even headier darker spices- sandalwood and Evelyn Rose are heavenly. I will be the hunt for the vintage formulation- Such a shame it's formulation has been changed- why ruin perfection?

I have a rollerball EDP of this from the silver years (maybe 15+ years ago?). It was my first ever EDP and I adored it -- still do. A gorgeous slightly sweet rose, comforting and joyful, pillowy soft in feel (not sillage) and just so easy to wear. Nostalgic, vaguely Edwardian. Not a watercolour, but more like an afternoon tea party in the garden, with hand-embroidered cushions on the grass, and scones and fresh peaches to enjoy, all while you're enveloped in the almost edible scent of the rose gardens around you. Just beautiful. I'm dreading my little rollerball running dry!

was particularly looking for a rose scent that resembled a rose at it's freshest point, a rose garden or a bouquet of roses. When I first sniffed this perfume I fell in love with it. After a few more times wearing this perfume I began to feel a bit nauseous. I stopped wearing it for a while then went back to it and it was just like the first time i had tried it on. I think if you wear it too often it can get a bit intoxicating. Overall, it's a good fragrance to wear on special occasions since it IS a rose scent!!! by the way i got a lot of compliments on this perfume

I own the clear glass bottle with silver lid (2003 version) of Evelyn Rose. Gorgeous bottle and a soft, feminine fragrance. Classic rose. (I do not own, nor have I tried, the 2012 reformulation in the gaudy gold bottle.) I originally purchased ER because my late grandmother was named Evelyn and my confirmation name is Rose. I no longer wear this scent, because I can't bear the thought of attempting to sniff an empty bottle. I'll keep this pretty, pink perfume in my collection as long as I'm able.

I am heartbroken that his has been reformulated - one of the great, great rose scents in its previous form. Alas I have run out of the 'old' formulation perfume itself (and having tested the reformulation it gets a 'no thanks' from me) but I still have half a bottle of the body lotion I am going to use very sparingly from now on as a special treat. I also still have half a bottle of Crabtree & Evelyn 'Damask Rose' which vanished from the shelves years ago, but 'Evelyn Rose' was the queen for me.

This was introduced to me by a friend, being one of her all time favourite scents. It starts off prim and proper like an antebellum Victorian rose but it's charming personality slowly unfurls. You get a sweet hint of fresh peach juice poured on a bed of soft petals, laced with some powdery/soapy undertones that make this scent so easy to wear. It's a blushing pink rose definitely, tinted with shades of gold and apricot, blooming when the sun comes out.

My first EDP that was gifted. I absolute love(d) this and wore it everyday. Started my obsession with rose scented perfumes. Alas it doesn't last very long on me even when I spritz about 3-5 times on myself in different areas. Good for smelling nice while getting to the train station. CT&E seems to have discontinued it here in Singapore though

Evelyn Rose Femme De Force absolutely needs its own listing. I just snapped up a second bottle at TJ Maxx for $6.99 for a buddy who hates powdery rose and I suspect will enjoy this dry, citric, faintly resinous rose. It’s totally unisex or would be great on a guy, perfect for summer. I love it when my cheapo blind buys are successful.

I adored Evelyn in the clear glass bottle with the silver top! Why on earth C&E had to change the recipe is beyond mad to me. I actually don't like the new one in the gold bottle, a poor relation to that divine long lasting rose dream that numerous women I know adored. Such a shame.

I love this fruity rose scent. I have a small roller ball edp. version, and it's pretty strong with a lot of kick. The peach and peony sweeten this rose and it feels very fresh and sharp. I like this better than the rosewater, while both are nice this smells better on me.

This is a beautiful rose scent, I really like it. It is elegant, slightly sweet but not overpowering, very well blended. The only minus is that it only lasted about 2 hours on me and then faded away.

Back when it was a clear glass bottle and it smelled like a sweet, rosy rose with nothing else, I bought a whole bottle and used it all. So beautiful, clean and fresh. Now the bottle is just... nvm.

the best rose scent ever...even it is not the real rose but it is better than the real rose alone....quite seducing scent...so be careful to use it...seriusly it is dangerous ha ha

Rose water all the way. I don't get peach nor peony but the rose and its green side. It's not all that spectacular but it's nice rosey scent overall. The price is great too.

Terrific scent; reminds me of the English roses outside my sister's old house in California. A version of rose richer and deeper than your ordinary American bloom.

Very sophisticated combination of roses, fragrant roses best. Nevertheless, I perceive that it is a very well done perfume smell of roses, not a true rose scent.

I loved this scent but with the new formula it has lost its lusciousness. Why do they have to change something which was perfect?
