Chevrefeuille

I was able to acquire a 30 year old bottle of this, which was unused and stored in a box under ideal conditions. It's a really spectacular scent, and is unlike any of Creed's current offerings. If I were going to categorize it with any of Creed's modern formulations, the one that it most resembles would be Original Vetiver. But it is truly distinct, and has a complex and fresh composition that I find delightful and retro. It is most similar to OV in that it is thoroughly a green and fresh scent, without any semblance of citrus. OV is my favorite modern Creed offering, so I am not surprised that Chevrefeuille delights me so much. The most prominent note for me is anise. It has a very herbal, natural personality that is in line with its name. It smells like a botanical garden on a warm late spring day. It manages to be spicy, sweet and herbal all at the same time. The initial spice eventually mellows out into a slightly powdery drydown that is vaguely floral, but retains its green and herbal DNA. The spicy and earthy composition is vaguely reminiscent of fresh garlic cloves, but in an entirely inoffensive way. It's unlike any other fragrance I have ever smelled. It definitely has a vintage character that I greatly value when hunting down discontinued Creed fragrances. I take pride in knowing it's wildly unlikely I will ever encounter someone else who smells like me when I am wearing this. It's a shame that Creed discontinued this fragrance so many years ago, but it's not terribly surprising, as it is the polar opposite in nature of their more recent offerings such as the amber universe duo, and Oud Zarian. Whereas those are sweet, rich and gourmet in nature, Chevrefeuille is entirely green, fresh and herbal. It seems to be at odds with the modern day consumer's palate. But if you value the rich history of fragrance, especially the house of Creed, it is worth tracking down a bottle or a decant of this. It is from the "Gray Cap" line of Creed EDTs that was entirely discontinued years ago. Longevity is just okay on skin, but long lasting on clothing. Similar to 2000s bottles of OV, but certainly better than more recent bottles of OV if looking for a comparison. It starts off strong, but never projects in a powerful or overwhelming manner. I would definitely characterize this as primarily a skin scent.

Creed Chevrefeuille, which translates to honeysuckle, is a discontinued grey-cap-era release that I regard as one of the best freshies of the house, very apropos in the dead heat of summer but comparably nice on a day like today (where I am) that starts off cool and ends up mildly warm. Chevrefeuille is a freshie but is also dense and interesting enough to merit more attention than most of what’s out on the market, even if it’s comparable to many of the previous and current Creed freshies in terms of overall quality. I liken it far more to the other discontinueds that I love (Epicea, Baie de Genievre, etc.) than, say, Silver Mountain Water, Himalaya, or even Green Irish Tweed. There’s something about Chevrefeuille The note breakdown consists of honeysuckle, “herbaceous notes,” and the familiar Creed base of ambergris. It’s primarily floral and citrus, the sharp scent of honeysuckle predictably dominating the scent profile, but there’s a vague herbal quality to it as well, which, even though I think the herbaceous note description is a bit odd, is fairly spot-on. It’s fresh, floral, citrus, and herbal, though the ambergris base doesn’t shine through as much as in the more watery compositions by the house. Overall this is a great fragrance and one I recommend checking out if you’re ever able to. I see if for sale from time to time on Facebook and elsewhere and usually it doesn’t drive as much of a price as some of the other discontinueds, but it merits comparable attention, in my opinion. 8 out of 10

After leaving it for a while, then recently wore again. I get a citrus freshness,. but more like a lemon leaf note vs the fruit. The green honeysuckle is more evident now, but is somewhat hidden in a green Accord. It opens grassy fresh, with a light minty note. That sounds boring, but the soft floral touch sweatens the greens a bit, and blends really well. The ambergris gives a nice added texture, grounding it with a base note. I rode by a honeysuckle patch on my bike on the NCR trail. They are a beautiful wild flower smell. But sadly there isn't much of any recognizable honeysuckle floral scent here. Although there is some white flower note in the mix, light, mostly green. PS: It has grown on me. It's the most fresh and beautiful, natural, uplifting fragrance for Summer. I will seek out a bottle eventually. I don't get any clear floral, but it's too nice to just b a green fragrance. There must be some honey suckle floral in here, giving it a fresh uplifting brightness. Rating: 9/10 Happy Easter. John 3:16

This is a beautiful natural scent. The honeysuckle and green notes are devine on skin. Totally serene like I'd imagine the French countryside. This is transportive in the way that only the the finest fragrances are. As it goes on, the ambergris appears which has a tinge of animalics and a touch of sourness. Dries to clean gentlemanly scent. I'd love a bottle of this but I don't want to have to mortgage a kidney to get one. Still, I'll watch the secondary market and snatch it up should the opportunity arise. This feels vintage in quality and scent but not in performance. Performance is poor even for a vintage fragrance that I'd wager is nearly 100% natural. Ambergris in this reminds me of Les Indemodables Escale Indonesie Top 5 Creed. Shame it's discontinued. Scent 9/10 Performance 2/10

Very high quality and well blended. Very beautiful scent. The green notes are blended with the honeysuckle masterfully. Not all the notes are listed, as the "Amber" accord listed in the stack is real. And I don't include the ambergris note as part of the amber accord, although it is certainly manifested in this scent. The ambergris shouldn't be cinsidered part of the "Amber" accord. Two different things. The amber gives it a creamy, slightly sweet quality, as it typically does. And it adds some depth. The citrus and honeysuckle blend imparts a slight petrichor-like lift, almost as if a slight breeze lifted the honeysuckle aroma after a spring rain. I grew up with honeysuckle lining the fence line around my yard in Virginia, USA. I know the smell.
