Fatale

Today, I'm drawing my comprehensive Curatrix journey to a close with their fragrance Fatale. I deliberately saved this one for last, given its scent profile feels the most familiar and intrinsically appealing to me. Tobacco fragrances hold a special place in my heart, so my hope is that I've indeed saved the best for last. Of course, having experienced numerous tobacco compositions, I would also quickly discern if this one fell short. Based on my overwhelmingly positive experiences with this house thus far, however, I feel confident they will deliver an exceptional rendition, allowing me to conclude this olfactory adventure on a truly high note. Let's get into it. Opening The opening is an inviting symphony of warmth, captivating spice, and nuanced sweetness. The primary notes that immediately register are ginger, cloves, honey, and tobacco, with ginger and cloves emerging as the most prominent. The ginger immediately greets my nose with a fresh, bright spiciness, wonderfully reminiscent of freshly cut ginger root, or perhaps those delicate pieces of ginger accompanying wasabi at sushi restaurants. Trailing closely behind the ginger comes the cloves, contributing more spiciness, but this time in an intensely warm, woody, and subtly medicinal manner, akin to the natural cloves used in cooking. Next, tobacco and honey weave into the composition. The tobacco introduces a cozy, warm sweetness that instantly recalls the natural dried cigar tobacco found in Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille, yet without the overwhelming, almost "face-meltingly" strong intensity of that fragrance. It possesses enough power to shine through the vibrant ginger and cloves, but gracefully maintains a supporting role, never overwhelming its companions. Lastly, the honey adds a touch of sticky sweetness on the backend, beautifully balancing the tenacity of the other notes, reminiscent of the honey accord in Xerjoff's Naxos. Dry Down The dry down graciously maintains its character, still radiating warmth, comforting sweetness, and gentle spice. The primary notes I discern are tobacco, honey, cloves, and vanilla, with tobacco and vanilla now holding the strongest positions. The tobacco has elegantly risen to the forefront in the dry down, becoming the prominent note, carrying with it the same inviting warmth and sweetness from the opening. The tobacco is then joined by the vanilla, imbuing the dry down with a familiar, creamy sweetness that rounds out the composition. This harmonious core is followed by cloves and honey. The cloves have shifted to a supporting role, still providing their characteristic warm spiciness from the opening but artfully dialed down to allow the tobacco and vanilla to truly shine. Lastly, the honey maintains its position in the background, consistently offering its distinct sticky, honeyed sweetness. The sandalwood is also perceptible as a gentle woody note, as is the benzoin for a soft, sweet, balsamic tone; however, they remain minor, enhancing characters. With tobacco and vanilla taking the spotlight in the dry down, the fragrance does undeniably lean closer to the Tobacco Vanille scent profile. Nevertheless, it remains, in my opinion, a much more rounded, refined, and inherently pleasant experience than Tobacco Vanille. Performance The initial projection is remarkably strong, effortlessly filling a room with its presence. Sillage matches that intensity, leaving a dense and notably heavy scent trail. Even after a few hours, both the projection and sillage remained largely unchanged, speaking to its robust character. At the seven to eight-hour mark, the projection had softened considerably to about arm's length, and the scent trail, while much lighter, was still discernible. The fragrance ultimately receded to a skin scent around the nine-to ten-hour mark. When to Wear Fatale presents itself as an ideal fall and winter fragrance, exquisitely suited for evening wear. Its rich, warm, and inviting nature makes it a perfect choice for a special occasion or a formal event, where its sophisticated depth can truly captivate. However, its opulent character suggests it would be less fitting for casual wear or a professional office environment. Blind Buy If you find yourself drawn to fragrances in the esteemed vein of Naxos or Tobacco Vanille, Fatale would be an exceptionally safe blind buy for your collection. Its profile resonates beautifully with these beloved compositions. Final Verdict To my nose, Fatale masterfully represents the synthesis of Naxos and Tobacco Vanille. The opening possesses that fresh brightness, coupled with the sweet luminosity of honey, for which Naxos is celebrated. Yet, it gracefully transitions and dries down into the rich, deep, sweet tobacco character that Tobacco Vanille famously embodies. In essence, it artfully selects the finest aspects of both revered fragrances and blends them into a cohesive masterpiece. While its performance may not have been quite as astonishingly potent as some of the other creations from this house, it remained robust and eminently respectable. I can confidently affirm that I ended this Curatrix journey on the high note I had genuinely hoped for. While Fatale didn't quite claim the top medal for my absolute favorite Curatrix fragrance—that distinction still belongs to Antihero—it is nevertheless a fragrance I would enthusiastically welcome into my personal collection. That is, of course, assuming Curatrix were to rectify the unfortunate customer service experience I encountered (as I've mentioned in my previous reviews). My sincere hope is that they can reconcile with me, allowing me to add some of these truly beautiful fragrances to my cherished collection. For a spicy, rather autumnal mix, this is remarkably fresh. The ginger is like freshly grated ginger, and the lavender is delightfully unexpected here. I really don't detect much tobacco, and what I do, is light and clean. And wonder of wonders, I can actually detect the clove! I love clove, and I don't know how many scents I've tried with expectancy only to be disappointed. But here it is. The rest is the incense, warm vanilla, and sandalwood, sweetened but not overly so with the honey. On the whole, delightful. I could wish for more longevity, but in this day and age, a good five hours is pretty decent. I could make this a regular. Very happy with it, more than I expected. Just what was wanted; a great holiday fragrance. 9/10.

Opens with spiced ginger and subtly syrupy honey and leads way into an aromatic lavender. The tobacco here is light and airy rather than rich and dark, and it paired well with that zingy spice from before and sweet touches of honey. The dry down is a lot sweeter and powdery with ambery touches. I regularly dislike ginger but this does it well and the progression of the scent is lovely
