Oxford & Cambridge Cologne

The 2021/2022 Oxford & Cambridge Eau de Parfum comes at a time when well-established fragrances are being released in a new concentration (EdP, Parfum) for no apparent reason other than marketing, at the expense of the scent being 'tweaked' - something us fragrance freaks find quite insulting. Fortunately with Czech & Speake, this is not the case. Their existing "Cologne" concentrations suffered at the hands of regulation, with some being weakened or diluted. The result is the overall scent deviating from its original formulation. The current Eau de Parfum revolution at C&S began with its signature No. 88 fragrance, which - to everyone's surprise - matched the original No. 88 accord much more closely. This has now been followed by Oxford & Cambridge and Cuba. The modern version of Oxford & Cambridge cologne suffered from poor longevity/projection and its dry down did not feel quite right. Despite being one of the nicest herbal lavender fragrances currently on the market (dare I say a benchmark lavender fragrance) and having a genuinely calming and soothing nature, some may have hesitated to get a bottle. The new Eau de Parfum, however, has once again turned the tide and the result is a fragrance that remains true to its original accord, subtle and (thankfully) does not vanish after 30 minutes. Most importantly, the dry down (which is the part most will end up smelling) is much more pleasant, woody, yet herbaceous, with the lavender accord sitting nicely on top. In keeping with the overall theme of this lavender concoction, projection is moderate but not monstrous as some might expect. The progression of the Eau de Parfum is no different to its Cologne counterpart; it opens with some mint and rosemary, somewhat camphorous, but quite herbaceous before the lavenders kick in. The overall scent is supported by a delicate oakmoss, which is ever so slightly sweetened, but is by no means thick or syrupy. Ultimately, this is a scent that you wear to stay close to you and in any season apart from in the extreme cold. There's nothing 'dressy' or fancy about it, but I suppose it can come across as sporty. It's very laid-back though and will work equally well in smart-casual wear or your typical jeans and t-shirt. One final point. Given how calming this scent is, it's one of the best to put on when you are not sure what to wear, if you're having trouble sleeping, going through a period of stress, or are just not feeling well. Totally inoffensive and unobtrusive. Attention seekers need not apply.

Did someone say lavender? Yes! Lavender is actually a very common note in men's fragrances. As a fan of the fougere accord, I've been wearing scents containing lavender quite a lot - without even knowing it! It was never my intention to wear a lavender scent on its own. But that all changed when the heavenly accord of herbaceous mint, rosemary and mossy sandalwood combined with peppery lavender entered my nostrils. Oxford & Cambridge does not immediately come across as a sporty fragrance; Lavender is after all a light herb and is never overpowering at any stage - overspray this to your heart's content. The mint freshens it up, giving it a rather spring/summery feel, whereas the mossy sandalwood base creates a smooth, yet light woody finish to this nostalgic potion. There is also a very gentle sweetness from the heart through to the base that takes away some of the herb's bitterness in the opening. The name Oxford & Cambridge is quite fitting (as is the blue bottle!) and exudes a certain elegance reminiscent of the English country side, perhaps an outing to either of the famous cities on a rare spring Bank Holiday. To me, this is the ultimate calming fragrance: one to unwind with, wear on a lazy afternoon, on a picnic, a walk in the countryside, or even to bed!

Wasn't expecting to like this one so much - I live in a lavender-growing area and tend to avoid it in fragrances because of its noisy local-market-hand-soap vibe (derogatory). These profile notes gave me hope of something more robustly resinous, though, and this one didn't disappoint. I got the EDC; it's light on both longevity and sillage, more of an aftershave, and I love it all the more. It's absolutely unmistakably lavender, freshened by the mint but never cold thanks to the savoury rosemary and the unobtrusively cosy sandalwood sitting under it. The first few moments are sharp with camphor but openings never bother me; this calms into a discrete, uplifting, very polite air of lavender. Never cheap. Barbershop good manners without soapiness. Linear, but does its job simply and beautifully; I could easily forget I'm wearing it. For a statement I'd pick something else, but I'm delighted to give this a place.

Oxford and Cambridge is my favorite lavender fragrance, in fact it is one of my most beloved fragrances period. Caron has the lavender that connects me with my childhood and my father.............warm memories and good times. Oxford and Cambridge is sharp, crisp, clean and elegant. It exudes a sense of being refined, put together and in control of yourself. I love how the lavender, mint, rosemary and florals start the aromatic journey and gradually meeting up with oakmoss and sandalwood to create a slightly creamy and very sensual finale. I easily get 6+ hours of joy with Oxford and Cambridge.

I finally pulled the trigger on a partial bottle and I am VERY happy. Performance is better than I read from other's descriptions of this house and better than I expected. It shouts lavender in a fairly linear way at the beginning, but then as it dries down the other notes reveal a more complex, beautiful barbershop fragrance. I definitely recommend if you like lavender. Almost worth the price (definitely recommend at a discounted price). Also try Green Lavender by The Art of Shaving; it's similar and to my liking as well.

A lovely fresh, herbaceous lavender. It's of decent strength and smells not far off from a good quality lavender essential oil. I definitely get the bergamot in the opening too, not sure about the mint and rosemary but it's very green overall so they are probably in there. This is so calming and natural smelling, it takes me to a garden in the English countryside. Longevity is actually ok, definitely give this a slight overspray if you want it to last longer-- I can still easily detect it several hours after applying.

this scent is amazing... i was introduced to it by a man who smelled so delicious i used to threaten to eat him... until he finally surprised me by purchasing me a bottle on one of his business trips to nyc and bringing it to me at my work. upon first sniff, once the dry, pungent scent of lavender wears off, it smells like warm lavendar-infused maple syrup. positively edible. i like to mix it with spicy scents like donna karan's "black cashmere" and vivienne westwood's "libertine" or "geisha noir" by aroma m.

This is a beautiful, natural-smelling lavender, but the best part comes in the gorgeous minty dry-down. It's a very straightforward scent, not sweet or cheap/sporty-smelling. Very elegant and stylish and crisp, and especially in cooler weather I get great longevity from it. 6-8 hours at least, and I can smell it in my clothes for days.

the edp of this is the best lavender fragrance ive ever smelled by a long shot, i was not expecting this. its like a way way better more natural ysl rive gauche pour homme. like a extremely expensive shaving cream type lavender oakmoss but very modern. hope they keep making it

Mint fougere accord opening. Strong aromatic lavender mid and dry down. Unique and creative. I love the opening, I like the mid and the dry down is disappointing. 6/10

Deep and stylish herbal scent. Not heavy, but long-lasting. Laveder, old books, herbs, spices, fresh salty vibe - wonderful.

A very good straightforward lavender scent with a good aromatic supporting cast. But it is NOT an Aromatic Fougere. There is a difference between an Aromatic lavender-forward scent and an Aromatic Fougere. I think most perfumers would agree it's a lavender-coumarin accord that defines the Fougere. This doesn't have that earthy/dried hay/vegetal smell of coumarin. This is more in the tradition of Yardley's English Lavender, maybe Pour in Homme de Caron, and even Tom Ford Lavender Extreme. Like someone below wrote, it's a good reference lavender fragrance. A strong, dominant, rather raw lavender with a good contribution from the other aromatic notes. Although the mint is very subdued. On blotter, this seemed to have a very fresh, breezy petrichor quality that to me, believe it or not, is reminiscent of Roja Oceania. But that doesn't manifest nearly as much on skin. Performance is moderate.

Wanted to try this for a very long time but I couldn't never find a reasonablely price bottle until 3-4 weeks ago and I blind bought it. I liked this one initially but after wearing it for a couple days I decided it wasn't worth keeping. Smells of good quality as do others I've tried from the house, but was a little too old school for me and never got my blood flowing much. Still, it's a pleasant and easy to wear mint and lavender cologne 🪻 Scent 6/10 Performance 5/10

Got a sample of this along with No 88. On first spray, I really enjoyed and thought it could be my signature. However, after wearing it for longer, I think it is too conventional and the lavender over dominates . Maybe fougeres just aren't my thing.

A blend of aromatic notes with greater emphasis to Lavender, Moss and deep inside the Mint. The combination was well balanced. I just like. I classify it thus: Smell: 6.5/10 Projection: 8.5/10 Longevity: 7.5/10

Wonderful lavender and very spicy, think red hots spicy (those cinnamon candies but not cinnamon) but disappears after an hour.

I did not look at this page before trying it, and was so disappointed when that whiff of lavender smacked me in the face. Luckily it did calm down a bit, and the mint, juniper and oak moss began to shine through. This really does seem like a classic, fresh, masculine scent, but the lavender as usual was an adversary I could not overcome.

If you love lavender, and you have a fondness for lavender, and lavender is something that you can't get enough of, and you like your lavender on the minty side, then this is your lucky day.

The initial spray is an odd, minty lavender mix, which very rapidly turns into a beautiful lavender. Fresh, clean and very uplifting, the scent is great - for at least half an hour. C&S Oxford and Cambridge is basically an aftershave in a bottle with an atomizer. This fragrance has the worst longevity of any fragrance in my collection and among the worst I've ever encountered. If you're familiar with the longevity of 4711, it's about the same or less for this one, which is especially sad, considering how expensive it is. Weak and ridiculously short lasting.

A very fresh, natural lavender scent,clean and aromatic. It has an almost sour or sharp opening with the bergamot,rosemary and mint and I detect something akin to eucalyptus or camphor in there perhaps an accord created by the citrus and herbal blend which, is balanced beautifully against the strong lavender middle notes and softly sweetened by the sandalwood. Very nice and refined, though it does seem to fade rather rapidly on my skin. I loved Czech & Speake originally for their shaving soaps of which I use both Oxford & Cambridge and No. 88.

Great lavender and eucalyptus blend. This is great to wear in the spring & summer seasons and is guaranteed to bring you many compliments. Not many people are going to be wearing this, as it is not easy to find or get you hands on. It lasts a good 6 to 8 hours on my skin and I absolutely love it. I can't wait for the spring so I can start wearing it again. You can wear this for any occasion when it is warm to hot weather. You will stand out and smell of opulence.

This is to me a reference lavender male fragrance. Very natural smelling, smells rich and sparkling. The heart and soul of the scent is the minty lavender, which dominates throughout the fragrance's whole lifespan on the skin. Initially very prominent and radiant, fairly quickly calms down and stays closer to the body and becomes sweeter. I have a full bottle of this masterpiece (in EDC formulation) - if someone's interested let me know.

When I dab on Oxford and Cambridge, it is like smelling the English countryside. From the beginning a camphorous, strong lavender is the main star here. It is supported by notes which, to my nose, seem to be camomille and anise. So the scent is similar to an infusion. After two hours the fragance is quite light and woody, but lavender is still there, as a pale shade. Wonderful cologne for both women and men. Very English indeed!

An energetic, unique lavender fragrance. It's starts very loud lavender aroma spiced with mint, almost smell of camphor. After an uplifting beginning it's transforms into a soft, powdery lavender-sandalwood infusion with a hint of herbal undertone.Very relaxing scent. On me it's turns very masculine, it's reminds me of my father's aftershave..:) I like the color of the bottle, very inviting..:)

i tried this yesterday (23 Dec 2013), the top note was like everything but the lavender, and when i moved a bit away i smelled some sort of onion.... the middle note turned to onion with mayonnaise and ketchup in a whopper burger from burger king... you can clearly smell the mix in the middle note.

This review is based on their sample. It's basically lavender with mint on top, which has a cooling sensation on skin. Mint fades away after about 15 mins and joins in by sandalwood. It has below average projection and moderate longevity on my skin.

When i smell this one it came on my mind some abercrombie scent. Anyone? maybe the accord rosemary lavander. not bad at all.fresh at the beginning. but if you like lavender try caron pour Homme cozy inexpensive and very natural

Fantastic scent of lavender. Very faithful to the smell of the real essential oil. Finally a perfume that has not a fake chemical smell of lavender.

This is pure lavender. Smells extremely natural and sharp as if I'm smelling real lavender. Not for me though. 4/10

Beautiful sharp, minty lavender... for 30 minutes. Shame for such a beautiful scent.

This is a nicer, more mature/refined, version of the ubiquitos,Juvenile, AF Fierce.
