Soliflore Narcissus

I just purchased Dame Perfumery's Soliflore Narcissus in the Eau de Toilette. It is so heavenly and realistic. Freshly sprayed, it smells like a whole bouquet of pure white and yellow narcissi. Then comes the indolic phase―which is what I understand to be the correct terminology for that mentholated aspect. This occurs after approximately 15 minutes and lasts about an hour or so. Afterward, it mellows, but never becomes any less spectacular until it finally disappears. The lasting power is probably typical (around 4-6 hours) but I love the fresh top notes so much that I reapply often just to smell them. Soliflore Narcissus takes me straight back to the cool, rainy, grey, spring days of my childhood in western Oregon and helping my mom cut daffodils, narcissi, and hyacinths to adorn our mantelpiece and kitchen table. I know many are intimidated by indoles. I'm inexperienced with them, but if this is a good example of an indolic perfume, I want to smell more. It doesn't smell fecal or rotten, or like anything unpleasant. The menthol-y greenness is strong but not offputting, and just lends more to the realism of this modern day masterpiece. Edited to add: I have a sample of the oil, also. I recommend the eau de toilette over the oil, unless you find a rollerball more convenient or unless you prefer to wear oil-based fragrances. It smells basically the same, but I find the oil to be a little more linear, and none of the phases "pop" as much as they do with the spray. The spray just seems "brighter" and more "alive," while the oil is more like a really nice painting.

DAME owns spring in my opinion. Their soliflore line showcases a realistic holographic image of putting your nose in the flower itself.... but more enhanced and brighter. Do not write these off as simplistic. They are far from that. Its a journey into the flower itself and its nuances. Ive had the opportunity to experience many fragrances over the years, and when its all said and done, something like a soliflore executed this brillantly is about the apex in perfumary. Its like a ballerina rehersing for years for the perfect attitude or pirouette. Something that seems so beautifully effortless is the result of diciplined time and perseverance. Stunning Mr. Dame. The layering possibilities are just endless.

I was not having a good day, one of those days we all have sometimes when nothing seems to go right. I went out to check the mailbox, and suddenly my day got brighter. There in the mailbox, completely unexpected, were six lovely samples of Dame Perfumery Scottsdale's soliflore line! It took me quite a lot of time to decide which one to try, but I finally chose Narcissus. It's a delightful spicy and springy scent, bringing those beautiful yellow flowers to mind, and here at the end of February in New England it's a wonderful reminder that spring WILL return. THE ultimate yellow floral. This smells nothing like perfume, and everything like a living plant. For a soliflore, it's amazing complex. The petals, the pollen, the juicy green leaves, and even a hint of rich loam from which it emerges. It shifts and swirls around you - the greenery is in the forefront, then the pollen, then the earth....very heady, indeed. Jeffrey has managed to capture the living essence of narcissus and bottle it. I am blown away this. I have no doubt that, should he attempt alchemy, he could turn lead into gold. Bravo, Jeffrey, you have my undying admiration!

I've not had the occasion to smell a real narcissus, but I very much like Dame's Narcissus soliflore. It is multi-faceted and long-lasting on my skin, and quite beautiful. It is lovely by itself, but sometimes I find that I enjoy layering it with other fragrances. On me Clinique Aromatics Elixir works wonderfully with the narcissus, it enhances the florals while blending nicely with the green mossiness of AE.

I cut big bouquets of narcissus every spring, and this is absolutely the most accurate, gorgeous representation of them I’ve found (by far- it’s a hard thing to find). It’s complex and probably a surprising scent for anyone who hasn’t spent time with their noses in narcissus flowers- they have dimensions that are airy & fresh, but also mentholated and indolic. Absolutely stunning perfume.

I spotted the 10ml Narcissus oil rollerball for sale on EBay for 10 bucks and snatched it blind. This is divine, exotic, and intoxicating. I’m totally sold on this house and cannot wait to try every single one of their creations. Bravo!! 👏 👏👏

This soliflore is absolutely stunning! It smells realistic, yet far more complex than a number of perfumes out there. It sparkles on it's own, no need to layer. My favorite from Dame Perfumery!

Out of all of Dame's amazing soliflore's, this one is perhaps the most on-the-nose. It smells exactly like the jonquil-type narcissus and makes a glorious perfume all on its own. I love it!

I am a big fan. It smells so complex while being a "soliflore". Green, floral and ozonic. Evokes the feeling of running super fast through a deep green garden just after the rain.

Two things about Narcissus: 1. It's unbelievably gorgeous; 2. It's almost too much for me. First: it is a perfectly captured photorealistic flower. You know when you get a vase of stargazer lilies, and you've had them out for a few days, they're completely open - and they start to drop their pollen, and there's this heady, blowsy, beautiful indolic floral scent that is just, *just* on the edge of smelling urine-like? This soliflore reminds me of that moment, when the flowers are at their peak, when they're dripping with bright orange pollen. You get the sense that bees would buzz around you if you went into a field wearing this. So yeah, it's gorgeous and wonderful but SO realistic that it almost gives me a headache and I want to move the vase away, but I'm the vase! If you are craving the smell of real, indolic flowers, down to the pollen... buy this. You won't be disappointed.

Bought 2ml oil sample from DAME website. I grew up with narcissus in my garden. I know the smell of a real flower very well to judge. Opening is not pleasant. Like a vapo rub type ointment but after 10 minutes it does smell ALMOST like real flower. Overall, it is not a 100% realistic narcissus but the closest I found so far. I like it. It does not last long though.

Dame’s soliflore line is made for layering in my opinion. This is a realistic daffodil scent, but a little goes a long way. I understand the gasoline/camphor comments because when I smell this up close, Soliflore Narcissus is too much. This magical floral potion needs a minimum of 12 inches, but more is better. Give this flower time and space and it will bloom.

Apparently I don't know what narcissus smells like because this is totally different than what I expected. It smells like gasoline in the opening and slowly softens and becomes more floral over time. I hate to say I dislike this because I LOVE daffodils but it doesn't smell like daffodils to me. I'm so confused. I need to smell a real daffodil next spring to remind myself. -

I'm in the minority here, but wow I found this awful. It didn't remotely smell like narcissus or even like any sort of flower or living thing - more like an old chemistry set. I had to scrub it off it was giving me such a headache. So disappointed because it sounded great.

WARNING: very challenging (unpleasant). Try before you buy. Smells good ? 2 /10 For reference, Musc Koublai Khan is also 2 Smells interesting ? 7.8/10. I don't think it meant to be "interesting", it's more of a miraculous fiasco. Scent Description The beginning is a dead ringer of some Chinese ointment (红花油),sort of like vics-vapo (methyl salicylate) + medicinal tincture + cool-tone pungent notes. Before this volatile top completely gone off, a deeply inky bad odor makes it really...challenging. It's unpleasant enough, but still, I caught something even more disgusting: a deep-closeted “halitosis” hint, like some civet tone. Then a seemingly normal note joins this freak show: a slightly mentholated aromatic/herbal note, though it’s far from enough to cover up the farce made by other notes. The aromatic note floats on top, slowly lost its mentholated edge. Meanwhile, the inky bad odor had a new partner: a somewhat waxy rubbery note. This one is not deliberately annoying, but still, far from pleasant. (A rubbery tone is the least unpleasant part of a perfume. Think about that.) the rest of the perfume is a duo between inky bad odor and this waxy rubbery note, finally the latter wins, and it fades into a...slightly lead-tinged base. Few More Words I've tried a few other narcissus scent (Au Dela Narcisse, Romanza, Myth women etc. etc.), I know this is not a tame flower, but I've never imagined it can be so f*ing obnoxious. In the best scenario, the perfumer has deliberately made this perfume unwearable; but in my opinion, this is most likely due to simple lack of skills, i.e. a stupid mistake. That being said, it could a fun twist as some part of other "normal" perfume. But not a stand-alone work. Not like this.

Disclaimer: I've never smelled a real Narcissus This one is spicy, very very spicy. Clove, cumin, etc. Very "niche". It would be a shock if someone smelling this for the first time expecting to smell flower. Although they do not smell the same, this one somehow reminds me of Moth by Zoologist in style. This is not my cup of tea at all but fasinating to smell. I layer this with Freesia also by Dame to add the fruity brightness to it and make it easier to wear as well as give Freesia some more interesting backbone.

Wow. Of the Soliflore line, I have smelled the gardenia, mimosa, osmanthus, and now narcissus. The narcissus is my favorite. It is close to smelling like ylang ylang to me; they are both "yellow floral" after all. Specifically, it has a spa/massage/aromatherapy vibe, very relaxing and just lovely!

It is all of the things that other posters mentioned. However, that's what some heady florals smell like in real life which makes this an acquired taste for those who love the photorealism of such flowers. It's like an art piece and a love letter to truly complex soliflores.

Beautiful, realistic narcissus. Intense, elegant and long lasting. A little bit too intense for my taste since I prefer watered down perfumes. Must have for a narcissus lover. Another impressive fragrance from Dame Perfumery that is both beautiful and modern.
