Heaven Sent

Before I begin, I want to say that the bottle design and notes have changed. This one seems to be about the previous version. I feel like a new page should be created for the new version. The ingredients of the new version are as follows: Top notes: Apple Blossom, Bergamot, Mandarin and Lily of the Valley Middle notes: Iris (Orris), Jasmine, Heliotrope and Rose Base notes: Amber, Musk, Oakmoss, Patchouli and Sandalwood Now, I'll begin my review. I really love this fragrance. It's beautiful, soft, powdery, warm, cozy and silky. At first, I smell the Bergamot, Iris or Orris and something that I can't recognize but I am assuming it is the Apple Blossom. Then Sandalwood dominates the scent under Musk, Orris and Amber and it continues to be that way for the rest of its time. The Sandalwood is what appeals to me the most. It is one of my favourite fragrance. The Sandalwood note reminded me of Shalimar Eau de Parfum by Guerlain. Shalimar has more Citrus note along with the Sandalwood, making it lack the cozy and warm feeling. Anyway, this has become my favourite. Longevity on my skin was 3-4 hours, on clothing over 12 hours. I find this perfume to be ideal for woman over 25. I don't think college girls should wear this. The scent isn't a good recommendation to wear in office. It can be worn for attending events and occasions and also as a daily wear. Season ideal for wearing this, for me, is all season. Maybe because I am from India and Sandalwood smells natural to me so I feel like to wear this scent all season. Sillage is about an arm's length.

Primped and hygienic. Aptly named as this is “scrubbed and powdered for church”, fresh. Makes the statement in close quarters that you are clean, respectful of the air space and friendly. Shares dna with “Love’s Baby Soft” but the addition of gauzy aldehydes and moss makes this womanly. Fraternal twin of “Chantilly” but not as bosomy-musky. This church lady is as winsome as she is wholesome. An ultra soft cloud of incense smoke gives the hint of a little mysterious personal tragedy to this nice lady. Baby powder and spring blossoms blends well with a subtle vanillic and moss base that says it will take some time before you are trusted to be her confidante. Exclusive virtue has its own unique allure. As for season, this is Easter in a bottle. Regarding sillage, this is one of those deceptively clean powder scents that seems compatible with high application until you overspray and recognize that its tenaciousness doesn’t let up on the powder puff, which can be suffocating if you’re dousing every inch. I find this to be both a subtle and long lasting scent on one or two sprays, lingering over the full course of the day with a hint of incense left at night, after about four hours of full strength, which makes it as unusual as it is economical in its performance.

Wow-what a difference a few minutes makes...every time I have ever tested this I have ended up washing it off within 5 minutes:the opening notes are quite harsh and the oakmoss is so overpowering on me as to be almost unbearable.I couldn't stand it!Well I read in the reviews here that many people had issues with the top notes(but it got better)so I figured I'd give it one last shot and boy it was worth it. THIS is what I was looking for in my quest for a baby-powder type scent.I have tried Love's Baby Soft but is is just so harsh on me-this is perfect.Warm, fuzzy and comforting.I like to wear baby lotion at bedtime and this is a perfect scent to accompany it.I am so glad I gave it more time-the top notes are almost sickly sweet on me but thank goodness it passed.LOVE. BTW-had to laugh at the reviewer who said her bottle had a jacked up sticker on it:mine is crooked too...silliness! ETA-I can see a passing resemblance to Chantilly but that is one of my all-time perfume loves and this will never top it for me:)

There should be a separate entry for the Mem version of this. Dana bought Mem if I recall, but I have the bottle pictured here, as well as a mini one that looks to be 1970s-80s; they do not smell the same. Dana version is much lighter and more floral, Mem is more ambery and vanillic. Both are nice, and VERY benzoin-powdery. The Dana bottle is GORGEOUS. I'd like to sample the Rubinstein, but I'd probably only purchase it as part of a lot with other things I want. At this point, 2 versions seems like enough. Closest comparisons are (vintage) Arden Blue Grass or (vintage) Dana Tojours Moi, but Heaven Sent has more intense vanilla notes. Update: I think I'm smelling lots of AMBER, not vanilla, although there IS some vanilla. This is a nice perfume for a sweltering hot day! Smells clean, powdery, and fresh.

Anybody remember the Heaven Sent ads? They spoke about "rainwashed breezes" and "rainbows". Or was it "rainkissed breezes"? Doesn't matter, you get the picture. The ads perfectly captured the perfume's soft, dreamy, lighter than air, romantic quality. Heaven Sent was many a girl's first "grown up" perfume. I hope it is yet. Heaven Sent may have been reformulated but it still has that dreamy quality of softly sweet and spicy flowers and powdery sandalwood. It is still full of innocence and hope, full of dreams that can come true. I bet every little girl(like me) who started with this one still has a bottle of it. And even if she doesn't wear it anymore(unlike me) she still holds it close to her heart.

Man I love this scent, it’s baby powdery but in a very wearable and pleasant way. Like smelling a kittens head. It’s precious. I lost my bottle and have been looking for a replacement. It’s a scent I’d buy over and over again, especially because it’s so cheap! It’s vintage without being old lady like at all. The perfect coquette fragrance on a budget.

This perfume definitely was not launched in 2001. I've been wearing it since I was a teenager. I am 65 years old. My mother used to buy it for us at Christmas time. I am sad that it is discontinued. It's a lovely fragrance that brings back tremendous memories with my mother.

Warm powdery fresh comfort scent. To me Heaven almost smells like a powdery much lighter version of Tabu. This is an after shower hang around the house, before bed scent. Makes me want to hug myself

I vaguely remember this perfume in the drug store in the 1980s. I really liked the bottle and bought it from Ebay really cheap. It is a smooth and lovely perfume. It's quite wearable.

I ADORE this. It's a powdery scent for sure, but there's this mossy sexy layer beneath it. It makes me feel like some forest-nymph-angel-wolf-woman-thing. It's so good.

Smells like Menen baby powder. It's comforting, though it's not a very long lasting fragrance. It's a younger version of Arpege and White Diamonds.

I remember this from high school. I don't know what formulation I have, but I just purchased this at Walgreens for 5.00 and it has a swirly glass bottle with the dirt cheapest sticker on it! The label is so awful, and they hardly ever have one on straight! I assume it's done by a machine that needs an adjustment? If this is a job for a human person, I should think they would fire them! From what I can remember, it is quite the same scent it was back then. Of course I don't have much of a memory from way back then, but this scent still pleases me. It's a definite hairspray, musky, clean, annnnd....dated, but just for a short spell. After it's all settled, 15-30 minutes later, it's suitable for any age and quite powdery. This is pretty strong with huge sillage at the start so I just walk as I spray so I don't get a snoot full and wreak the scent for myself. It settles rather quickly and you can smell it for quite a long time on yourself, so I would think others will smell it far longer than you will yourself...long lasting to be sure. This is worth every penny for those of us liking hairsprayish scents. To compare this to something so you can imagine, I'd say, Johnson's Baby Shampoo....yeah, a bit similar to Moonlight Path and also Jovan Musk or maybe Estee by Estee Lauder. This is cheap happines!

I also purchased this as Fragaria had - a gift set at Walgreens for $5.00, mine last year after the Christmas of 2011. Out of nostalgia , I suppose. I remember it being more of a Chantilly meets Loves Baby Soft. I gave Heaven Scent to female teachers as a gift for the holidays when I was in grade school, and so wanted a bottle for myself. I finally had received one when I was a teen, in a mini set. It is not quite what I remember. It isn`t as soft as it once was. It seems more strong and harsh. I do not dislike it. I might grab for it, if I remember that it`s sitting way back behind my other fragrances ( it`s a tall bottle,3.4 edp, and yes, label is stuck on crooked ) after I have one of those days that after a shower I need the comfort and smoothness of baby powder. I will layer with some of the lotion - also strong- and baby powder. I keep this as an 'in house' scent. I do not wear this out for some reason that I cannot put my finger on... It does not seem to go anywhere...maybe that`s it, it stays and stays, doesn`t power down, does not change, when I want it to soften up more. More of a pajama scent to me when I want a little extra. I spray lightly.

The first time I tried this it was a big no, and it went right into the giveaway box. But something made me go save it, and I tried it again. Surprisingly I liked it. I thought it was really nice and soft and comforting the initial citrus blast is fresh and perky and not bitter at all. This may be TMI for some people but depending on where I am in my cycle I can love or hate a fragrance. I must have tried this one at the wrong time the first time. I have had a hysterectomy, because of that I never know where I am in regards to my cycle. But just looking at one that may bring trouble is usually enough to for me to know it's not the right time for that kind of scent. Sorry if that's too much for some of you, but I think biology and hormones play a big role in scent enjoyment. I'm glad I gave this one another chance. It's cheap and cheerful and just right for drifting off to dreamland after a nice bath, however, it's safe enough for work too. Not straight up baby powder like some of its "sister" scents (love's etc).

This is the dumbed down version of Helena Rubinstein's classic scent. Think I'm being harsh? Compare the perfume pyramids and notes. Really. Go look. Original notes were Neroli, Bergamot, Amalfi Lemon, Orange, Mint, Carnation, Ylang-Ylang, Rose, Lily-of-the-Valley, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Oakmoss, Amyris, Benzoin, and Musk. Dana's cheap rip-off contains Apple Blossom, Bergamot, Mandarin Orange, Jasmine, Rose, Lily-of-the-Valley, Patchouli, Oakmoss, Musk, and Sandalwood. Perhaps, if all you have is the half-forgotten memory of the vintage perfume, Dana's approximation of Heaven Sent might remind you of the original. But I've had them side by side, and there is no comparison. Next to the real stuff, Dana's smells cheap. And I am not a perfume snob. I do not have a super refined nose. But to me, the difference is night and day. Do yourself a favor and hunt down Helena Rubinstein's Heaven Sent on Ebay.

I bought this a few months ago but just got around to wearing this today as I thought it wouldn't go well with the extremely long, hot summer we were having. This is really nice. I could swear there is incense in this but according to the notes listed above there isn't. The base notes of musk and the patch are definitely the strongest here, can't make out any citrus and the flowers are very much in the background. I just initially sprayed one spray to my inner forearm and then forgot about it and it kept wafting up to my nose for the next several hours and surprised me how long it lasted for a real cheapie, about six dollars I believe I paid. I bought two of them, intending one to be a gift but maybe I will keep both! I will definitely be wearing this more as the cooler weather takes hold very soon. It's lovely.

My review is for the pre-reformulated version. It was soft, comfy, innocent, a bit powdery, delicate, and very feminine. I loved wearing this because it always made me feel so girly and pretty. I have seen the reformulated version in the stores around holiday time but I'm too afraid to try it, knowing it has likely been ruined by the current manufacturer. EDIT: I ended up with a small bottle of the new version from a gift set. I determined that my old bottle was made by MEM. I never tried the Helena Rubenstein version. The new one by Dana starts off with a bright burst of citrus which quickly dissipates, then goes through a phase where there is a bit of a bitter note, and settles into a similar drydown as my old MEM version. This all happens in a matter of an hour.

Heaven Sent has been my mother's signature for as long as I can remember. My grandmother always purchased her a bottle for her birthday and when she passed I took up the tradition. Reviewers that say it has a powerful kick are not wrong. With the first spritz the entire room fills with a soft powdery smell. It gives my sister a headache, but it has never bothered me. I prefer powdery feminine perfumes to this day and believe it is because I have a strong emotional reaction to Heaven Sent. I'd go so far as to say this a classic must own for fans of baby soft, sweet perfumes.
