Monsoon Tea

Sampling Monsoon Tea by d’Annam, a really pleasantly watery fresh blend of citruses, green tea, musk, and vetiver, very much in the same family as In The Garden, but a shift away from florals and neroli in favor of citruses and green tea, but still citric, green, fresh, and agreeable. It has a vaguely mossy, borderline vegetal quality to it but not so much that it smells realistic to the point of being unpleasant. It’s really quite great, as with the other scents I’ve tried in the house so far, and performs well, particularly for a freshie. As with the rest of the line, Monsoon Tea is EDP concentration and priced at $120 for 50ml, which is a very reasonable pricing level relative to other niche options currently. In addition to the full collection being sold on their house site, d’Annam is now carried, in part, by Ministry of Scent, Luckyscent, and Arielle Shoshana, each of which sells some, but not all, of the line’s current catalogue of nine fragrances. Monsoon Tea is sold by all three of those boutiques, though. 8 out of 10

Oh that's the stuff! The smell of when your mom made you green tea as a kid, but you didn't like it because it was well... unsweetened green tea, so you procrastinated drinking it, but it cooled down and that only made the taste stronger, now fully saturated and tasting sharp like the stems more than the leaves. The citrus is a wonderful contribution, and makes this a fresh scent. There's something almost aquatic about it, giving it that wet feel, and creating a scent that is both fresh and sharp, yet weirdly calming, the same way that rain makes you want to stay inside and relax, yet makes you feel energized and awake. I've worn it both to start the day, and to bed. The originality - making a fresh clean scent smell interesting - alone makes the price tag justified. Nothing like anything I've tried before, and my favourite from the vietnam discovery set so far.

I have been searching for a super fresh green tea scent, and i definitely think this accomplishes it. Within the first few mins it is everything I wanted, green tea, grassy, zingy and citrus, like a fresher stronger version of Elizabeth Arden’s green tea. It kind of calms down into more of the grass and warms up a bit after a while, but like a lot of green tea fragrances it isn’t super strong and doesn’t last a long time. I think it does last better and stronger than a lot of other green tea scents I’ve tried, it doesn’t completely disappear like some other do, and I think it’s a really good option for times when I don’t necessarily want a really strong or offensive scent. Like this would be great to wear to work, to travel, to class etc. I do just generally really enjoy it though, it’s a fragrance that just makes me happy!

Love this perfume, honestly. When I tried it on paper, the opening was a bit too harsh for me, but then dried down beautifully, still the opening made me a bit disappointed. BUT, I tried it on skin a couple of hours ago and the opening was not harsh on me, it was pleasant, and dried to the same beautiful center of green tea, which I love. I also chose a great day since it’s a warm and rainy spring day. It’s been 2 hours and I can still smell in on myself but I don’t expect it to last much longer, nonetheless, I don’t really mind since I love it so much that I can just reapply. I have a tester from the discovery kit, but I will try to purchase a full bottle asap. Both this, and pomelo oolong are my favourite tea scents and some of my favourite scents overall.

My first impression: instantly fell in love. Next thought was that it smelled like a far more complex and expensive version of the method blue hand soap (called sea minerals) at which point i realized i may be too much of a plebeian to pick out any notes from this. It does not smell like green tea to me, nor citrus .. maybe it smells a bit like green tea? A jasmine note? To me it all blends together into one beautiful scent but doesnt smell particularly unique or unfamiliar... EDIT I have applied a larger dose of this and now I really get the green tea and bergamot. Heavenly.. if only it lasted longer on the skin

Absolutely gorgeous smell, It's very soft, It feels like I'm drinking tea outside on a beautiful cool but sunny day, It was recently drizzling, and the sun warms the leaves in the nearby garden. I am in love, who said that they could create such a lovely scent? This perfume soaks into your skin making it a very skin close scent! Wonderful as an everyday wear!!! 9/10, I will be getting a big bottle!

Very high quality fregrance, perfectly balanced and very tea forward. Usually o dont love very green accords but this is so smooth and comforting green tea, the lime and tea here come together almost like lemongrass which i love and its just so unique and beautiful. This is everything wulong cha wished it was. very pricy though.

I love the freshness of this. Considering it is called monsoon tea, I'm surprised there aren't any marine/aquatic/ozonic notes listed. Despite that, the notes are incredibly reminiscent of the cool air after it rains.

I enjoy this one and it is pleasant to wear. I appreciate it. It does come more as citric to me. For citric fragrances I would have to pick L'eau D'Issey Pour Homme by Issey Miyake. I'll give this an 8.5/10

I love this tea fragrance. It is light, subtle and beautiful with the tea note very very clear. It might be the best green tea fragrance yet. It is such a good fragrance for the summer.

I was told that it smells on me firstly like bergamot tea, then like green tea and after several hours or wearing - again bergamot tea. Very refreshing and not too much annoying smell.

I really like this fragrance, I'd even go to say its my favorite of the first chapter. It smells like a rainstorm falling upon a tea garden. Very beautiful, bitter, green, vegetal.

Very similar to Gentleman in my nose, citric, fresh, quite woody maybe because the tea that balance all the citric and fresh load.

Bright, unique, and fresh tea scent. Great performance, a perfect everyday reach for spring and summer.

Smells like a non-alcoholic mojito

opens extremely vegetal with the very specific note of cucumber skin it is so pleasent and non synthetic smelling you really worry "oh no another scent that turns into pickle for some reason" no this is pure garden fantasy this is what is says it is and then some I don't think i'd be able to say "oh thats a tea scent" if i was blind folded and asked but I think it absolutely accomplishes what it sets out to do - and it very much does remind me of the more expensive flushes of green tea i've had it continues to dry down into the lily and amber - sort of a sweet almost aquatic scent of steam rising from a cup the vegetal nature really rounding out very much like leaves to a brewed cup I wasnt expecting much with this! I honestly think this is pretty one note for a tea scent but I also think that single note was incredibly well executed. I could see myself reaching for this very often tbh I was going to say "it has warmth that other green scents do not. a gentle warmth that isn't woody" and realized warm green is tea silly :) if you dont like the scent of cucumber/vegetal notes this is gonna be a tough one for you but the dry down may be worth it!

I had a genuine wow moment at the very beginning: it was dewy, delicate, and utterly enchanting, with both tea and lily-of-the-valley shimmering through but within a few minutes, that magic quietly dissolved and settled into a clean-linen impression. Lovely, yes (who doesn’t enjoy freshly laundered sheets?), but perhaps a touch too pristine. A sharply citrusy thread shows up in the heart, though it does calm down as it develops. In the drydown, it circles back to a gentle tea-and-musk pairing and fades softly; and this stage in particular is serene and quietly beautiful. If it had leaned a little less citrusy and a little more dewy, it might have been truly delightful but even as it is, I still enjoyed it. The projection, sillage, and longevity are all light. Very distinctive lime top note. I can see how others are saying cucumber skin, but as a big tequila drinker I know my limes and that's a lime. Drydown is kind of a vaguely sweet and vaguely floral tea supported by amber and vetiver. Retains green and citrus rind characteristics for a couple hours. Has both a cool fresh green and a warm sunny skin feeling at the same time. Although citrus tea scents are not a new concept, this one is very unique. The green elements here are very natural plant-smelling and not soapy-aldehydic or overly floral. Test this out if you like: lime, tea, or jungle type scents.

Probably my favorite out of the Enchanting Vietnam set. It reminds me of a pretty and relaxing rainy day strolling through a lime tree farm and drinking green tea after. Could be great for all year round but probably better in the warm weather. It's so refreshing and cooling I can't get over it. The only thing is the longevity and projection.......there's none of it. For a crazy expensive 1.7 oz bottle, you would expect better quality. It's such a great scent but not worth the $160. Literally an unbelievably high price for such a new brand.

An interesting citrus. After the disappointment of Pho Breakfast I'm happy to smell a distinct lime backed by some kind of savory note. Even if its very light and under the tea umbrella. I feel like I'm standing in the middle of a rain soaked, storm blow, tall grass field. Oils of the grass are bright and herbal. Something like dried earthy citrus peel. The sweet and savory feel very well balanced to me and while this is not something I'd wear everyday I greatly appreciate the beautiful evocation.
