Strawberry Mochi

Ohhh wowwow, this one was the least expected, but it turned out to be my favorite from the brand!! Coming from Japan, I can honestly say this is a quite realistic take on Daifuku (mochi filled with sweet red bean paste). Right after I sprayed it, I immediately smelled that soft, fluffy, slightly tangy mochi delicately wrapping the red bean paste. The mochi part even captures the white rice powder that lightly coats the outside. If you’ve ever had fresh Daifuku, you’ll know exactly what I mean! I know there are a few perfumes out there with a rice or mochi note, but this one has its unique charm. It feels tangy, slightly lactonic, and soft in the core, but the faint dusting of powder surrounds it. That subtle powdery layer gives the scent an airy, delicate texture that feels really special. As for the red bean paste, the sweetness is perfectly balanced. Just like real Daifuku, where it's sweet enough to feel delightful, but not too sweet to make you feel sick after eating them. I also somehow caught red bean skin, like in Tsubuan Daifuku, which is adding depth and texture to the composition. I don’t know how to explain it better, but to me this feels like an "earthy" kind of gourmand. It smells like something real, handmade from scratch with care, not processed or overly stylized. That being said, I didn’t pick up a strong strawberry note. Just a faint fruity touch in the background of my scent bubble (i.e. away from where I sprayed), which is making the red bean paste lighter and adding a hint of fruitiness. The strawberry itself is not in the Daifuku, but rather the aroma of strawberry is lightly infused in the paste. This is my nostalgic scent back home. Very comforting, tangy, fluffy, and yummy!! I would love to try layering this with a green tea perfume to have my afternoon tea time:) Would like to get a FB sometimes soon.

I love it, but I see why many would not. “Strawberry Mochi” fragrances are marketed to be overly sweet, creamy, and strawberry-heavy, which is why this bottle is not a safe blind buy for sure. If you’ve ever had a real strawberry mochi, it isn’t that sweet of a dessert. In fact, this perfume accurately captures the scent of a real strawberry mochi. The opening is very ricey and starch-forward (honestly hyper-realistic — wow! just like when you bite into one), and it dries down to something sweet, slightly vanilla, with a hint of strawberry and mellowed out by the red bean. I’m happy that my skin chemistry agrees with the dry-down. On me, it becomes a pleasant, sweet scent. In the dry down, it feels very “clean girl,” like I just showered with some sort of organic sweet rice body wash, and it’s lingering lol. I saw reviews that people don’t get that from this fragrance. d'Annam really takes you through the experience of eating a strawberry mochi: ricey and starchy on the outside, subtle sweetness on the inside. Really claiming back the meaning of "strawberry mochi" in the fragrance industry.

I have fallen in love with this one. It was weird and earthy right out of the bottle, and was the second perfume sample I ever bought. My first thought was "I'm not sure I'll like this". But I put a little bit on my wrist just to see how it unfolded. And wow I'm so glad I did, it's become one of my very favorite perfumes, and has opened me to the curiosity of trying any and every perfume that interests me, despite its unusual opening notes! How exciting. This one feels so warm and comforting to me, I don't get the sweetness so much as a silky smooth rice. The lightest hint of earthy strawberry sweetness, but nothing like a saccharine cotton candy or milk chocolate. I tried it because I read it described as softly sweet like kitten fur, like the scent of a clean but well-loved blanket. That's how it feels to me. I have been wearing it to bed most nights, its so comforting to fall asleep with. I love it!

my new signature scent!! it literally smells just like a mochi.. less strawberry though but that’s ok bc im more here for the mochi than the strawberry so any strawberry at all is bonus (and strawberry scents are much much more common than mochi scents so it’s nice to not smell stereotypical). it smells like rice but doughy like a photorealistic mochi, and then it transitions into the red bean paste note which is sweet like it’s vanilla’s cousin but not too sweet, and its subtle too (my mom has a sensitive nose but she loves strawberry mochi on me), and then the base notes are like. less distinctively mochi but still pleasantly-not-overly-sweet gourmand (and maybe this is where the strawberry is?) and just one spritz lasted overnight on me...

The opening gives a burst of artificial strawberry, reminiscent of a strawberry gum or candy I had as a kid that I can't quite put my finger on. The strawberry fades pretty quickly and evolves into the starchy mochi. It has a very similar dna to White Rice, but with the addition of the sugar and red bean paste making it slightly sweeter than its sister. If you're looking for a gourmand that's both savory and sweet smelling in an understated way, give this one a sample. I'm not sure if I love it, but I can't stop smelling my sleeve, so that's a good sign. EDIT: I've worn it a few more times. I'm not a fan of the artificial strawberry in opening, but I love the dry down. If it weren't for the strawberry I'd probably get a full bottle.

I was so worried about the strawberry note. Every time a fragrance claims one it always reads cheap, synthetic, and waxy. An old fruity candle from the dollar general. The fruitiness is not so clearly "strawberry" here but I think that is saving it from the same fate at the others. Brown sugar and rich red bean are a gorgeous combination (in mochi as well of course) and the chewy mochi itself, on open, is incredible. So realistic. My mouth is watering. Once again I desperately wish that warm, golden, cozy rice note stuck around longer but I'm still enamored by the dry down. I'm blown away by the Memories of Japan set and I cannot wait to layer these and give them full wears. Majestic China is calling my name. Thrilled by this house.

Starchy, thick mochi skin with a hint of a hint of a likeness of strawberry. BUT IT’S GOOD. I am not a gourmand fan at all so I really did not think I would like this even remotely. And although this is very edible, I really enjoy this! Not blind buy worthy so keep that in mind, but it’s very cozy and cool, effortless and elegant, poised and multifaceted. I recently reviewed Sesame Shower from Concreted and these do not smell similar at all obviously but this is the same vein. It’s not leaning too heavily into the clean territory with those edible notes, but it’s also not a true cloying gourmand. It’s very perfectly balanced. I’m into it! I’m very much interested in getting a full bottle!

This perfume has become my new favourite. It's definitely not the best STRAWBERRY fragrance, but it is a very good sweet rice one. I can’t really differentiate the red bean in this, it just smells much sweeter than how actual red bean treats usually taste like, even if red bean stuff is usually quite sweet. I know this is lightly based on a strawberry daifuku and I think it does it justice, daifuku ive tasted usually have a thicker layer of rice than regular mochi does. Longevity could be better but it's not horrible so I don’t mind. This is definitely does not feel like what was advertised but I honestly love whatever this is. Going to get a full bottle as soon as I can.

This one might be my favourite out of the japan discovery-set. Its this heavy filling gourmand. Don't get me wrong when i say filling gourmand, i mean; there is no space for any freshness, its all just heavy gourmand. I honestly get thirsty from smelling it. Anyways; so this smells like rice and red bean paste with something sweet in the background; so not you traditional gourmand since there is no overperforming vanilla, nor is it like a overlysweet nor a sweet at all tbh. Its hard to describe but it smells like motchi, but i dont pick up ANY strawberries, just motchi and red bean paste

Ok bare with me here, did you ever make glue from rice in the microwave as a child? Because this is exactly what this smells like but with a bit of red bean. Its that or unceremoniously sticking your nose into powdery the outside of a mochi and inhaling, hard. Hard enough that a red bean gets in your nose but its still mostly just full of powder. Absolutely no strawberry maybe a tiny bit of miscellaneous fruitiness but that's it. But yes I do like it. Would i wear it though? I probably will at some point just hard to find a situation that calls for that exact smell.

I am in love with this perfume. I had been a longtime lover of Diptyques L'eau Papier for its ephemeral rice note and found that Strawberry Mochi amplifies that note ten fold. It is truly a delicious gourmand scent that is extremely starchy and sweet with a strong opening of rice but dries down to a creamy brown sugar red bean paste. I never liked gourmands until now and I will never stop wearing it. The strawberry note is rather nonexistent and I'm okay with that because I bought it for the rice note but those who love strawberry may be disappointed.

the perfume is really warm and toasty. very reminiscent of glutinous rice, brown sugar, and vanilla. i personally don’t smell much red bean or strawberry. the bottle is really cute and shaped like an egg. with this fragrance, it’s also very intimate ... maybe it’s because my skin is on the dry side but you can smell it from a distance right when it’s sprayed but afterwards it’s only really a faint smell on the skin. the fragrance probably lasts 1-2 hours. i love this fragrance but i just wish it lasted longer.

People, i think, who are unfamiliar with red bean paste are allowing its presence as a note listed in this fragrance (along with their misunderstanding of what it tastes/smells of) to alter their experience with this stuff. This is a subtly sweet, soft scent, which projects well for that variety of perfume and laaaaaaasts. I was so pleased to find others saying it is a comfort scent, cuz that is that word that i kept think of throughout the day, whenever i was reminded that i was wearing this

I smelled this at a scent bar in LA when I visited, and I fell in love with this perfume. I thought I would like matcha soft serve more but this is just so unique and for the first time this feels like a perfume that speaks to me and feels like me. If that makes any sense. It’s not super strawberry forward just really nice starchy, powdery mochi which I honestly want people to associate me with. Strange but I really want a full bottle of this and maybe find some other mochi like perfumes.

This is another mind-blowing realistic scent from D'Annam. The initial spray smells like Mochi covered in rice flour, then the adzuki bean paste with it's slightly floral note comes up and made me feel like I am really having a mochi in front of me. I can only sense a tiny bit of strawberry, it's not the artificial overpowered strawberry but a slight hint of sweetness from forest strawberries. Unfortunately like Matcha Soft Serve the longevity is very poor. Especially given the price.

Ohhh I’ve just found a new favourite!! I got the sample along with Dedcools mochi milk and this is by far my fav of the two. It sprays down heavy with the red bean and strawberry, yet it’s not super sweet till it dries. It smells exactly like cooked hot strawberry mochi. Starchy, warm, and so yummy. I do personally layer it with dedcools mochi milk to give it a sweeter scent on occasion but it is amazing by its own, and layered with a good lotion + body oil it’ll last all day

It’s been a long time since I was in love and exited about perfume. This is so pretty. Reminds me a lot of Freckled and Beautiful by Lab on Fire but Strawberry Mochi is much more pleasant and softer. It doesn’t have that smoker note I catch in F&B sometimes. Absolutely in love, got a full bottle and can’t wait to wear it more for spring. The scent is gourmand floral, Rice Krispies, or some baked wheat biscuits with floral notes that gives the perfume sophistications.

The strawberry comes out later in the dry down, but of course, the starchy fluffiness of the rice accord is the main attraction here. It’s stunningly realistic and projects just enough to get pleasant wafts of it throughout the day. The dry down does turn out to be a more typical vanilla and brown-sugar-covered strawberry, but again, it’s fluffy and pleasant, and I would say fairly worth the price tag for the novelty and the funky bottle!

This really does smell like biting into a powdery, pillowy pink mochi ball filled with red bean paste. Sweet, but light enough for the warmer months. It’s the kind of treat you can’t help but inhale in two bites right after the grocer checks you out. Very nostalgic for me, as mochi was my preferred treat after a long day of college classes. It’s a “good job. You did it. Here’s a reward.” scent. And who doesn’t need a bit of that?

a strawberry daifuku dream! i love the photorealistic mochi, it has a really pleasant lightness that you don't get with a lot of mochi/lactonic scents but still contains a lot of depth and texture. the strawberry is (as everyone else has been saying) not super forward, but adds a nice freshness and fruity sweetness that elevates the scent a lot. the opening of this fragrance was vaguely floral on my skin, which i really enjoyed!
