Witching Hour

Once again, i'm pleasantly surprised by Dark Tales. This is the 2nd of the 16 samples from the sample set i try, and this one hit home. On me: It opens up with an unsweetened powdery cacao, fir, and cypriol. There is a hint of something smokey. I don't get the coffee at any time, but i'm guessing it's hidden under the chocolate and oakmoss. The scent is kind of happy, melancholic, and mysteriously dark, all at the same time. Very interesting and "bewitching". In the mid the chocolate tones down and lets all the other notes have more space. It smells kind of clean and soapy for about 30 minutes. Probably the Cypress, Fir, oakmoss and Black Spruce, blending in with some light Cypriol. Very pleasant stage. The chocolate is still very much present. Dries down into a beautiful oakmoss and fir base, with a nice touch of powdery chocolate over it. Beautiful from start to finish. Gets more and more powdery towards the late dry-down. This is signature scent worthy for me. Easy to wear, and will be appreciated by most people around you. I'd say it's office friendly, yet slightly challenging. Autumn and Winter (maybe spring). Daytime or night time, leaning night time. Unisex (could be seen as leaning slightly masculine). Personal score: 9.75/10. I Needed a full bottle after sampling it. I love the scent So much, and how it evolves and envelop me. Strong recommendation to sample.

This scent is very likely an FBW candidate for me! What I call gothic talc, a slightly smoky and dark powder, was the first thing I picked up, even though I'd usually only catch it in the drydown. A wonderful chocolate (but it never enters gourmand territory) and a forest smell with both earthy and green qualities, all together. It's as if there are ancient trees here rather than leaves. I write little stories for scents that intrigue and charm me, and just as I was thinking this one deserves a tiny story, seeing "witchy forest cafe" written below made me so happy, because the one in my head was similar... Our witch (this forest witch wanders through some of my reviews), this time she's invited every ominous, eerie, freakish creature (friends) you can think of to her home (hidden in a tree hollow), and she's serving coffee mocha. A cozy party is underway. Even though her home's signature herbal smell is dominated by the drinks being served this time, the smoky and dark vibe is still unsuppressed. As some of these ominous creatures crack the door open to step outside, the magical, dark smell of the forest freshens up the inside. It’s one of those fragrances that perfectly captures the concept intended by its creator, especially when we look at the name and the design of the bottle. Witching Hour evokes associations with a slightly dark, mist-shrouded, damp, and mysterious atmosphere, yet at the same time, it feels sweet and alluring. It carries both a sense of unease and joy. We are drawn into this forest, seduced by the scent of cocoa with its delicate sweetness — it’s slightly stuffy yet cool at the same time. There’s a noticeable coniferous note, along with a hint of smokiness and a powdery softness. The scent of roasted coffee beans beautifully complements the entire composition.

After the initial spray u get a very intense, smoky, powdery dark cocoa with coffee - which is not very strong I’d say it’s more like coffee beans than actual brewed coffee. As it dries down it becomes more green and woody, like a conifer forest. Oakmoss, spruce and the fir are especially present and the mix of everything makes it feel very clean and airy. The cocoa is still present and adds a warmth to the atmosphere. My sister described it as a “witchy forest café” which is honestly not bad of a description. I like this a lot, but I recommend sampling before buying

Cocoa is the main note in the opening here but it's not sweet and cloying. It's like a darker richer chocolate with some soft smoke. I also get something resinous in the bottom. Envokes a feeling of mystery which is nice. Dries to a more "perfumery" cacao. This is nice but the drydown isn't for me, is it groundbreaking? No. Is it bad? Also no but I can get this profile from cheaper alternatives. 6,5/10.

I blind bought the full size along with some samples as I had been wanting to try this for so long. Everything about it is attractive to me from the theme to the notes (all except the A.I. usage and imagery...) but I'm sad to say my streak of blind buying amazing fragrances ended with this one... The notes do not translate whatsoever, just smells horribly and intensely of some type of balsam, it's almost medicinal. There is not even a faint smell of cocoa, coffee or smoke so if that's what you'd expect (like I did) steer clear. It is incredibly one note as well, no pun intended, but it smells the same all throughout it's journey. I can almost tell what they were trying to do, but I've tried other indie brands that do 100x better for a fraction of the price ( Haus of Hecate and Society of Alchemist for example). Out of all the 5 samples, I only liked one. All of them have the same problem... One note.
