Sweet Repose

Absolutely beautiful powdery iris/amber. I know the description is one of nostalgia, and this does have a retro vibe, but I find it thoroughly modern, as well. Sits closer to the skin, but you will enjoy the scent bubble. I notice the lavender in the opening, but iris, tonka, and vanilla eventually stand out the most to me. This is a parfum concentration. I highly recommend checking out this house. Sweet Repose is my favorite in Darren's entire line of current offerings. It is an uber rich, thick, powdery, sweet and decadent scent. Although it seems to be driven by iris/orris, it smells near equal parts iris/orris, violet, lavender, florals, vanilla/tonka, amber and resins in the base. The total accord has a gourmandish, honey-like subjective feel. On the gender spectrum of "Iris fragrances", it leans feminine. I would describe all of Darren's fragrances as definitively of high quality, natural (not synthetic), rich/luxe, and unique. Sweet Repose is no exception. It is a uniquely rich and decadent iris fragrance that almost smells like the blending of aromas from a newly invented dessert presented to your table, the freshly composed floral arrangement placed on the table and the aromatics from the kitchen's garden wafting through the open window at Thomas Keller's the French Laundry. Rather than for me, a middle aged man, I picture Norma Desmond wearing this fragrance, "Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up".
