Just tried a sample today on skin. This reminds me of a smoother Dana Tabu scent. Tabu is more rough around the edges. Chypre No 1 is a better and smoother similar scent. Not as bold as Tabu but more well rounded. You really do have to try on your skin. Otherwise you lose out on the Civet and Deer Musk. Imaginary Authors is like that too. Darren Alan was unknown to me until last month. The reason for that is because Darren Alan is a local Pittsburgh,PA brand which started in 1998.

The first spray is intense and wonderful. Very vintage vibe to it, but not your grandma's perfume. Tons of notes and so well blended. I don't get the animalic note (thankfully). Reminds me a bit of Chypre Mousse by Oriza Legrande, but without the mushroom note, so not as "earthy". The website has this in a 10 ml which is fantastic as it's a powerhouse. Get your hands on this if you love vintage chypre.
