Cool Water

I’ve reviewed this before some years ago, but it’s been a while. So, beings that I used what was left in the bottle I had and wore it today, I thought I would come back here with an update. I was at a very casual, outdoor company event earlier this afternoon. We had beautiful weather here with mild temperatures. People upon seeing me and giving me a hug said, “OMG, you smell so good. What is that?” Imagine their surprise when I told them that it was this. Of course skin chemistry plays a huge part in how a scent will smell from person to person, but there is also a trick with this one. Be careful how much you spray on and at what distance the bottle is away from you when you spray it. Spraying too close to the body and spraying too much will have this scent smelling thick and synthetic to the point it’s gag and headache inducing. I held the bottle nearly two feet away from me and misted this on. The result was smelling nice, fresh, and clean as if I stepped out of the shower only a minute ago without causing any headaches for myself or others around me. It does smell soapy, but I like those kind of scents for daytime anyway. For me, they make me more approachable to others. This lasted on me for most of the day with mild projection. I’m sure I’ll replace my used bottle once summer is in full swing.

This is summer in a bottle. It smells like water, the ocean, vacation and summer holidays. It also smells somehow nostalgic for some reason? At first, there are fresh citruses and water. Then it smells more sweet (like fruits and water melon) but not too sweet in the way that makes you have headache, but in a way that makes you feel like you are on beach in summer, having a cold drink and fruit. The whole time it is very fresh and keeps the smell of fresh water. The name "cool water" fits well, it really feels cooling and refreshing. It also lasts pretty long, on skin I think it's good for about one whole work day, on clothes a bit more. (edit: I put it yesterday evening on my wrists and I can still smell it today, and it's half past 4 in the afternoon) And it's also good price, if you want a good quality perfume but you cannot afford some expensive designer brand (like me) this is a good choice. My mom uses it and it smells a little different on both of us, but always nice. I don't think there is anyone who would hate this perfume, at least I don't know anyone who does...so I think it also makes a good present if you don't know someone that close. The bottle is also cute, it looks like a little potion.

The Scent of a Blue Lagoon... This 1996 Floral Aquatic scent by Pierre Bourdon has a mood & tone consistent with Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991), or The Blue Lagoon (1980). Although both films were made before this came out, I could imagine the sets smelling of this, and Brooke Shields, Milla Jovovich or their male co-stars wearing this on set. Once the bottle is sprayed a few times and then stored for a year or more it smells like it should, as other reviewers have mentioned. There's a lot going on in the notes, and although individual notes can sometimes be picked out, it's smoothly blended into sweet but cool blue lagoon vibe. Opens with a fruity-floral burst of melon & lotus with quince & citrus-y accents. As it transitions to the floral heart of lotus & waterlily, some honey tones emerge. The floral support base keeps the blue lagoon vibe going for well beyond average performance. I was obsessed with this when it first came out. Like all fads, it fell out of fashion for awhile, but now I would consider it a classic. It's a longtime love for me. Aquatic scent lovers, enjoy!

Back in '03 I was 20 years old, and in my first serious relationship. Anyways, He called me one day and said he was at the flea market and there were several people there selling perfumes/colognes... He was naming off the ones they had, and when he said they had "Cool Water" i said yes, that's the one I wanted... I had never smelled it before, but knowing that I loved aquatic scents... I figured i'd like it. He came and picked me up at my house so I could stay with him for the weekend...I grabbed the bottle of Cool Water and ahhhh I loved it!!! I wore it every day for several years! Anyway... fast forward to this year... That boyfriend, and that bottle of cool water were long gone... My aunt surprised me one day with a mini bottle of cool water. I took it out and sprayed it and man, talk about a time portal! It instantly took me back to 2003, and made me think of my ex...I didn't really wanna be reminded of him... but the perfume smells sooo wonderful, I love it now just as much as I loved it then...only now it has a TON of memories associated with it...but that's okay!

A couple reviews below mine...they stole the words right from my mouth. It really is thirst quenching, like a aquatic, fruity drink for your skin on a hot, humid summer day. And also...yes, absolutely the best of it's kind. I couldn't have said it better myself. This fragrance is SO fruity and SO aquatic at the same time. Nothing fighting to win the battle...both just 50/50 working in harmony. I absolutely love this! I can't wait to wear it on a 90 degree day here in Pennsylvania this summer. This is amazing. Have only worn this once or twice and have gotten several compliments already. For it's price...an absolute 10 out of 10 with no doubt! Longevity - About 5 hours Sillage - Easily projects about 4-5 feet for the first 2 hours. Then comes closer to skin for the remaining 2-3 hours but is still very present. Scent Itself - No joke...one of the few 10 out of 10s in my collection. I'm obsessed with this. Overall rating - 10/10 TWO THUMBS UP! This scent alone has convinced me to order more from the Davidoff house.

This is my No. 1 summer fragrance; but, for some reason, it doesn't get much love here on Fragrantica - I mean, its current rating is 3.35?! While some hyped-up overpriced shite easily scores 4.5 and more?! It is easy to underestimate this juice, packed in a humble blue bottle, but I'd like to emphasise how innovative, influential and popular it was in the mid-1990s. Trust a genius perfumer Pierre Bourdon - the man who created Kouros - to perfectly execute the task of creating the freshest, most pleasant summer scent ever. It's a rare combination of white flowers with a delicious vitamin cocktail that contains relatively uncommon notes of melon, pineapple and quince; it's clean, breezy, juicy and energising. While I haven't worn it continuously in the past two decades, this is one of the rare fragrances that I have repurchased several times. Another bonus is that nowadays it is ridiculously cheap.

My mom has this so I might be biased but I love it sm. When I smell it, it makes me want to buy it for myself. It's very aquatic and a little floraly. I don't know if I smell (from memory) any sweet notes. I think you can smell it in the whole room when it gets sprayed, also from a meter away when you're close to the person wearing it. Idk why it has so many notes tho, it's just watery but intense watery. Not mermaidy or sailory, but like a water goddess that appears during a full moon when you chant her name 5 times in a moonlit lake. I think I'm just glazing but it's really nostalgic and really good and worth a try. ^^ Oh and also if you want a 2000s frutiger aero kind of scent or one of those niche aesthetics like frutiger blue zen in a Chinese mall in the 2000s if ykyk. Ok bye!

a while back i was looking for a better and more affordable alternative to ck eternity aqua for her. this is the better version 100%. ck was very sharp and bitter, cool water is more softened and natrual. this has become my new everyday scent because its just so lovely. im a big fan of the melon and cucumber family of scents and this gives me exactly that. also- lily of the valley! you can never go wrong with a scent that has lily of the valley in it! one problem- the sillage isnt too good. id like for people to get a little breeze of my perfume and think 'omg that is yummy i want to get to know her', but sadly the sillage just doesnt allow for it. anyways, overall - i love

hmm ... this is one of those fragrances where i know i can’t be objective in any sense because of how much a scent means to me. my mother wore this as her signature my entire childhood and only switched over to something else in my later adolescence; now, a coworker of mine at work wears this and i just feel like im eight years old again watching my mom get ready for her day, putting her contacts in, powdering her face, and zipping up her dress or buttoning the back of her blouse when she had finally picked out something she wanted to wear. i just love this one a lot and it reminds me of why fragrance and good smells make me feel like i actually exist.

I first tried this scent in Nordstrom, on a trip my bestie and I had to celebrate our 40th birthdays. I instantly fell in love. I had never smelled anything like it; to me it's what spring and summer would smell like if you could bottle it. It's fresh, crisp and clean. This not a shy fragrance, sitting at a table in the corner hoping not to be noticed. Cool Water is an attention getter in the best possible way. It's a bold, in your face fragrance and demands attention like the diva she is. In other words, this is a fragrance to wear when you want attention.

OH MY GOODNESS i love this one soo much!! when i first bought it,it was at the beginning of 2020,first thing that came to my mind is the OCEAN,SUN,HAPPINESS,WATER !! i don’t know but it gives me the feeling of childhood days,when i smell it i always imagine myself swimming in the middle of the ocean at night while the moonlight is shining,or i imagine the sound of the big ocean waves clashing,or i imagine myself dancing while it’s raining,it’s all related to WATER! it’s really up to it’s name Cool Water,such an amazing aquatic lemony fragrance.

Bought this on a whim at Shoppers because it was on the 21.99 rack. I am so glad i did. This brings a quintessential 90s aquatic calone soapiness that i love. This scent lasts quite a while on me. I can smell it on myself throughout the work day. I like to mix it with other scents to add that extra clean edge to them. For sillage and projection, i'm not sure. I think it is pretty intimate on me, but i am not an oversprayer either, only about 2-3 sprays. If you are looking for a no-brainer, office friendly, clean summer scent, this is it.

Bought this for the wife. Very fresh and sweet smelling scent perfect for Singapore's hot weather. Honestly, I find that this scent is good for clothes and not skin. Through my experience, the performance and longevity was so good on my wife with more than 8+hrs. I can still smell it after she returned from work. It doesn't project more than an arm's length and leaves a soft trail of the scent. But.. Like I said, clothes only. I can also see guys loving and rocking this scent too. Performance & longevity on clothes: 7/10 On skin: 4/10

I just decided last night that I am going to STOP buying so much perfume, particularly blind buying, and just stick with Coco Mademoiselle, but I had Cool Water being delivered today as my last hurrah. Oh my goodness, I love this. It's sparkling and fresh and just beautiful. I love love this - it's on my "keep" list. Reminds me a lot of Bond No 9 Perfume and maybe also of Light Blue by D&G. It's so fresh - I'm taking it with me on my beach vacation for sure!! Reminds you of the ocean -

Cool and aquatic. Fresh and musky at the same time. The melon comes through first and stays in varying degrees throughout. This is a cool breezy fall evening walk on the beach to me. I smell a fresh sweetness, the ocean and even the rocks/mineral deposits in the air. It's unique in it's realness imo. Probably not for everyone. I think this fragrance is good year round. Has good performance. Affordable. Would repurchase. 8/10 rating

Christmas Gift 2023. Berries and peach and fresh water. Smells clean and like a soft vacation day. It's sparkling and delightful. The longevity is not much on me, maybe an hour, but I don't mind re-applying. It's not perfumey or floral and safe and universally pleasant for the office. It's marketed to women but definitely could be men's too. I also bought the men's for my husband. It's a beautiful and classy fragrance.

I don't know why, but this is one of those fragrances for women that personally drives me crazy! Nostalgia possibly plays a part, as it's been around for a while. Phenomenal. Incredible longevity and projection; I have received many compliments wearing this. It's a stunning fragrance. It has an abundance of notes but it's the melon that stands out for me. The lotus note gives it an aquatic feel and it's not particularly floral which is so rare in feminine leaning perfume. Reasonably priced too. I can't wait to try the flankers. Signature worthy 😊 10/10.

This is a strange perfume. I got it over 10 years ago and it smelled way too strong, like kitchen cleaners. I used it as a room spray for awhile. It’s now 2023 and it smells so good like described. Why would it take so long for this perfume to smell aquatic instea of Comet cleaner? Totally strange. I like it now but not when I got it. Did it have to age to get its proper scent? Just weird.

This perfume needs no introduction. The classic water drop bottle sold on every shop and every airport in the world. It's got a name on its own, it's a worldwide known scent. It's timeless, it's summer and waves, it's fruit, flowers and sea breeze in a bottle. It's birds singing in a September morning. It's simple... As beautiful as simple things can be. Such a gem for such a little price!

Smells like teen spirit. This was the scent of my high school days, and I’ll always have a soft spot for it. That said, the performance leaves a lot to be desired. The sillage isn’t too shabby, though. It’s fresh, clean, perfectly suitable for the office or school, even ideal as a bedtime fragrance. Non-offensive with a distinctly summery vibe. Simple, light, easy to wear and delicious.

I love this scent, there's something magical about it, fresh, watery, tingly sparkly, small sweet flowers on the dry down. One of my signature scents. Other one is J'adore Dior so make of that what you will. Also using Cool Water Exotic Summer which is more fruity (more pineapple imho). It lasts ok but it's edt so don't expect it to last till next day. Want to also try the rose version.

Don't care about your trends or if it's old-fashioned. Don't care. I love-love-love this scent. Cool water is the only perfume that made me smell THE OCEAN itself. Whenever I see sth aquatic or ocean scented, it just smells like perfumes for men. Like, are you kidding? This is the ocean itself. I'm trying so hard to find perfumes similar to this.

Smells like my all inclusive late September vacation by the Red Sea in Egypt - I appreciate that cooling scent in the desert heat that brings you citruses, watery florals and some fruits covered in violet leaves in the background. Perfect to wear to the beach or on a warm humid night during a walk on a promenade among the palms and exotic flowers

Impulsively bought it recently, solely for nostalgic reasons. I recall seeing that iconic blue bottle often in my childhood. I'm delighted, it smells even better than what I remembered from the early 2000s. Super fresh, clean, aquatic, a bit shampoo-y? For me it's been linear, consistently pleasant, I love it.

I remember this smelled amazing in the 90s but I always thought it was the male version. So I bought it for my husband and smelled it. It wasn't that same feeling. So I got the woman one and OMG! Yes the smell I've been dying for. It's so fresh and clean. I would bathe in this. It reminds me of Light Blue

This perfume reminds me of my mom. She always used this perfume since I was little until now. It reminds me not of a swimming pool in the summer, but of a dark party, during autumn to winter. Partying until 5 and drinking champagne and wine. 2000s vibes. 100/10 I recommend it

My very first favorite perfume, used to smell this from my mom when i was younger and really makes me feel refreshed and energised everytime i smelled it. It last quite long as my mom sprays it before work and i could still smell it when she comes home in the evening

This is so soft, fresh, and pretty! A very gentle fragrance that will still make itself known. Extremely feminine. Slightly sweet, slightly powdery aquatic florals. Not as "blue" as the men's version, but they share the same core DNA. A beautiful understated perfume.

the pineapple note in this fragrance is so beautiful. a very clean tropical smell that is perfect for the beach or lake. not a light fragrance though, with the aquatic ozonic smell being very strong and could give someone a headache if not sprayed on lightly.

I've used this for about 22 years now and I still love it so much. I don't pick any notes, but it's fresh and aquatic. Like cool seawater. And quite inoffensive, if you don't overdose. And it's affordable. Try this if you like fresh and aquatic scents <3

I don't know what y'all on but my gf wears this everyday IN WINTER and somehow it still smells so amazing I'm going crazy + lasts like 8-9 hours and the sillage is INSANE I don't know what ph she has bro but I can't express how much I love this fragrance

I was born and raised in South Florida, so this was in my top 3 through highschool for sure! This Clinique happy and Ralph Lauren... It was hard to find great performing fragrances when it's always hot and when it's not it's raining.

For an EDT this is a beast. Lasts for a Long time. It’s so refreshing and cooling especially in the summer heat. Always a delight when I wear this. I won’t repurchase but I’m enjoying and cherishing the hell out of my bottle.

I love the 'just got back from a swim in the ocean' feel this has. I live far from the beach now and when I am homesick I spray Cool Water and I feel right at home, nostalgic, and warm & happy inside. Thank you davidoff.

This is the only aquatic that gives me a headache. I like it regardless tho. I have the association for it to a bath, maybe its from the sea salt body wash I used before (?), so I just think of water when I smell it.

This hits the spot on a hot muggy summer day if I could I would buy a thousand bottles to fill up an in-ground pool with and just swim in it 😎

This is quite a ubiquitous scent and instantly springs to mind whenever someone mentions a scent is "aquatic". I've had Cool Water previously but it was my mother's part used bottle and was the "deodorant spray" rather than the actual EdT, it also had turned and smelt like overripe melon and pencil shavings so I binned it. I recently saw the EdT on offer in Boots as well as in various other places, it really is an inexpensive scent and I thought "why not" and got a fresh 50ml EdT. I'm glad I got a fresh bottle but I'm also glad I got a 50ml, it's made me realise facets to this scent that I never noticed before but it's also not one I'd reach for often since I think it's better suited for scorching hot weather and for stuffy environments. The opening is quite sharp and astringent, reminding me of a swimming pool but in a kind of nostalgic way. Melon is instantly noticeable after initial application and stays there throughout development, I get a lot of waterlily and something that feels "grassy" along with a cold dewy sort of feeling from the calone. I can't say I notice any of the other fruits or florals and the pencil shaving woody notes of my previous bottle are non existent. Cool Water dries down to a light melon shower gel skin scent by about the 3hr mark and stays like that until I take a shower. The longevity on me is decent, I can spray 5x and smell it on me all day with it having a mild bordering on moderate silage. It's office safe in my opinion but to me, it feels too casual for office wear so personally I'd save it for hot casual summer wear. The price is right and it's easily available, it's also a lovely dumb reach for days when you can't think of what to wear and just want to smell clean. I'm currently sat on a very hot train that's crowded and one person is wearing heavily applied Angel while I'm sat in my fresh, cool melon aura feeling serene and refreshed. Future summertime repurchase

Update: This smells very unisex to me (which I like) so I let my younger brother have a spritz before a date with his girlfriend, since he really loved the smell on me. Apparently she did too, and wouldn't stop hugging/sniffing him the whole time lol. And this is a girl in her late teens. So to the menfolk our there, don't be afraid to play around, with "women's" perfume. The idea of gendered products is a bit silly anyway. Wear what you like. ~~~~~ Cool Water has a distinctly 1990's feel which is part of the appeal for me, personally. Around 1998, my mom had a shower gel that was meant to be used after laying in the tanning bed that smelled a lot like this, and I would sneak and use it to enjoy the lovely scent. This feels very summery, and smells like a fragrant and expensive high end sunscreen or suntan lotion, and the pool/beach. There's a bit of a salty note in there that really pulls it together in my opinion, but it may just be my chemistry. Pineapple and lotus are very prominent on my skin, and the entire composition just works so well. Classically aquatic; clean and refreshing without being sterile. I have to say this is my favorite fresh/aquatic fume and it was my first "grown up" fragrance, and I still use it a lot in hot weather. Been a favorite for a long time, and the projection is perfect for this type of scent. Longevity is also outstanding. I can see how some may see it as dated and do seem to remember smelling this on many young adults as a child in the late 90's. Received my first bottle as a gift in 2003, with my mother knowing I was more into skateboarding than makeup or barbies so it's great for tomboys or those who detest the girly/floral sweet fruity stuff that's en vogue. I think it's perfect for all ages and genders, and timeless. Clean never goes out of style.
