Fragrance 04

One of my favorite fragrances ever, full stop. It's almost like this smell was made specifically for me, actually. If I were turned into a perfume, this is what I'd smell like. Bold, earthy, androgynous - it's absolutely perfect. I can smell all the notes listed (except for the florals, which is fine by me) and they smell great together. Any incense+citrus combo is an instant win in my book, and although I typically detest patchouli, it compliments the fig very nicely. The sandalwood is just the icing on the cake. Not only does this fragrance smell great, but it also lasts all day too. If I spay it on my jacket, I can still smell it the next day. Great performance without being overpowering, what more could you want in a perfume? Overall, this is everything I've ever wanted in a perfume and it will be my new signature scent. However, I would NOT consider this a safe blind buy! As you can see from the reviews below mine, many people didn't love this one. I suspect a lot of people don't like the strong black pepper note, which can make this perfume very spicy. Try before you buy! But I really do hope you try it, I can't wait to find someone who love's this funky little fragrance as much as I do!!

I love this perfume, but I would never recommend it to anyone. It opens with very aggressive citrus and pepper. I don't get the florals with this (edit: now i do, softly), but the drydown does reveal a bit of the cedar and sandalwood, although very quietly. It's just one of those scents that puts me in a good mood, and reaching for it is so easy, I don't even have to think about it. When I got my sample tin I wasn't sure if I preferred 04 or 05, but when I settled into bed for the night I could smell the soft woods of the drydown of 04 and I was completely sold on it then. Malin + Goetz Cannabis is a near dead ringer in the opening. I doubt you need to be told based on the other reviews, but this is not a safe blind buy.

Yes, it's true— quite a strong citrus and pepper bomb off the top but its become addicting now that the shock factor is gone. Also picking up subtle deeper sweetness off the initial spray and I've come to love it. Projects strongly on me for a couple hours but doesn't last crazy long which I don't mind given the naturals in here. Nontoxic fragrances are evolving. I hope they continue to gain popularity and further develop... but for now this stuff is great! Leans masculine for sure btw but hey to each their own.

Very citrus on the opening... almost enough to spook me. But this is my favorite of all the DedCools I've tried and a top fragrance for me overall. The way it transforms into this patchouli and wood reminds me of the mystery of the forest. Depending on your perspective, it may be a little more masculine but it just works. I will not be buying another FB because I have had issues with 2 DedCool bottles and I just don't trust them anymore... Hoping to be impressed by Malin+Goetz Cannabis next.

This is Dedcool Fragrance 02's big brother. Where 02 is one of my favorite unisex (feminine-leaning, IMO) fragrances from the perfume house, 04 is decidedly more masculine with its strong hit of pepper and citrus. Their similar DNA is in the hints of sweetness. I'm not sure where the sweetness comes from, but I love it in both. I thought it was the juniper berry in 02, but apparently that's not a note in 04. Or maybe it's just not mentioned in the pyramid. Regardless, I enjoy this one, but not on myself. I gave my sample to my husband. We'll see if he likes it enough for a full-size. They would complement each other nicely.

OK what a sleeper fragrance. I sampled the entire DedCool original line, and on test strips, 04 intrigued me the least. The dry down on this is gorgeous. It opens with a peppery citrus burst. It's fresh, it's astringent, a tad indolic. It's nice. Not my normal go-to, but pleasant enough. The dry down is when the jasmine and freesia really shine in such a lovely comforting way. These pleasant floral note is rounded out beautifully by a gentle deep sweetness from the incense. I keep sniffing my wrists. I did not expect to like this one as much I do! The dry down is my fav part.

I enjoy this, but to me this scent like it's just the base of another scent. Like a half finished sentence or statement. Don't get me wrong, what's there is nice and very citrus-y and patchouli filled, but it never makes its statement. It teases you and that's what I like about it. A great layer fragrance for any very dark scent. I've found this works very well with John Varvatos' "Vintage" as it makes the who experience a lot lighter. Again, good layering scent if you enjoy that, but if you don't I'd pass for now unless a severe discount.

It's peppery, citrusy, and woody. I bought this as part of a sample pack for my husband to see if my husband would like it since he likes more citrusy fragrances and it wasn't his favorite. My initial reaction was that I didn't like it, but it grew on me over time. There's a freshness to it. It makes me think of having a blended salty lime margarita.

first thoughts: incense and essential oils in late summer/early-mid fall. i really like this more than i thought i would and really like the amount of patchouli added to it. its giving like a mysterious almost witch type of vibe. don't know if id buy again only because i feel like it doesn't suit me, but i love it nonetheless :)

This is a lovely, fresh, anytime scent. Its basically a woody incense but the fig and sandalwood keep it soft not harsh or unbalanced. Its at the perfect level, sheer but lasting. Completely unisex and modern scent.

Smelled this in an ultra-hipster boutique in Downtown Los Angeles. I thought it smelled amazing but I only smelled it in passing on paper. Black pepper and incense. Would like to sample again.

The initial blast is straight peppercorn, a little rough on the nose hairs lol. Then it slowly develops into a very nostalgic masculine leaning scent. Very strong Bergamot, patchouli, and incense which isn't horrible, they're actually blended quite nicely. No fig sweetness whatsoever, more fig leaf or fig tree. It reminds me of a bunch of bros hanging out smoking on some black and milds outside of jazz show. Overall it was interesting and pleasant to try, but not for me. I'll probably end up giving it to my dad.

Peppery, but tart and somewhat floral. Smooth. Green. On my skin: Pepper and a smidge of fig, but the pepper dominates. Not too harsh, kind of invigorating. But I smell no citrus (bummer). Pepper softens as it wears but never dissipates, and I still don't get the bergamot or lemon. Patchouli and woods appear with a musty tone. Reminds me of Red Truffle 21. Hmm. Nope.

Masculine, my grandpa would love this.

This is just not good. I brought my sample to use on a 5 day trip and it was enough that I still have most of the sample left. It smells green, citrusy, and peppery. Someone else said it smells like half a fragrance and that is spot on. It's just missing anything that makes it seem complete. I can't appreciate any of its facets because there's something lacking that would round it out. It leans pretty masculine compared to other Dedcool fragrances. This one is really disappointing. If you want something more unisex leaning masculine from Dedcool, get Blonde. Longevity is fine.

I picked up a build your own sample tin from Dedcool and was excited for what I was expecting to be a woody, spicy fragrance. However when I first sprayed it I got a heavy astringent chemical smell almost like bleach. Eventually it settled to a more earthy, woody scent but the astringent notes never fully left. There were definitely some wins in the sample set but this wasn’t one of them for me. Strong sillage and long lasting so if you enjoy the fragrance that could be a plus.

Fragrance 04 is not my cup of tea - it's quite masculine, peppery and heavy on the bergamot, but what I really don't like about it is the strange musty base. I don't know, it smells kind of like musty skin where the sour sweat has dried and you sprayed something super sour and lemony on top. I don't get this effect around me, but as soon as I sniff my skin I smell it. Off-putting.

I thought I would like this one the most out of the sample set because I love fig, white florals, and sandalwood. Unfortunately I don’t really smell any of those notes! All I can smell is black pepper which I’m not a fan of. I wish the other notes came through more on my skin.

I didn’t love this fragrance. It reminded me of something that the boys in my class would wear when I was a freshman in high school

One of the few DedCool fragrances I just couldn’t grow to love. Smells astringent and bleach-like to me. Bummer.
