Incense

Demeter Incense is like unburned novelty French-vanilla-scented incense sticks that you can pick up cheap from import stores. It's a little powdery and has somewhat the same sweet base as Demeter Frankincense, though the two have a completely different vibe and I detect nothing like frankincense in this one. Incense is sweet, a little powdery, and not smoky or balsamic (resinous) at all. It's very clean and white in feel. It's also what I call a "sleeper" scent, pretending to be soft but actually quite persistent and noticeable by others (I got a compliment on it, actually). Incense is very calming, as well as mysterious - the scent is vaguely familiar but hard to pinpoint if you're not reading the label. I find it somewhat sophisticated for this reason and feel put-together when I wear it. The longevity is very good.

I’ve recently started obsessing on expanding my collection of perfumes that smell more of incense. I figured Demeter’s Incense would be a good starting point. What a lovely surprise.. I agree with the other reviewers in that it’s not a frankincense type fragrance. I think it’s a much softer & spicier vanilla mixed with soft balsam-woods. A skin-scent for sure and I can imagine the many possibilities of layering it with other scents!

This is an incense I have never heard about and never would have tested if it wasnt for fragrantica. I must now have this! It is a lovely calming and soothing fragrance with a oriental woody touch. It defenetly smells of some sort of caramell-like vanilla, so maybe not for evey guy, but as the other reviewer said, it is a great unisex frag.

I am reviewing the Demeter Body Massage Oil 60ml. I have discovered that the oils have much longer staying power than the alcoholic based perfumes and are great for layering. They are also much more budget friendly. This was not what I imagined Incense to be. It is very light and sweet. Extremely gorgeous, has a floral sweetness to it but just not my idea of incense. Great for layering. Decant some oil into an atomiser. Spray onto your skin, smooth gently and allow the oil to absorb and then spray another perfume over the top. The oil helps the perfume to last longer and adds depth to lighter perfumes that you feel are missing notes. Layering fragrances and coming up with your own signature scents is great fun.

Sweeter than expected and somewhat earthy. It doesn't have a heavy, bitter, and/or burnt smell to me. Not my type of fragrance at the moment, but I can see how others would like it.

I am anosmic to this. Curious if anyone else has had that experience. Or perhaps it was just my bottle.

A case in point that illustrates the unisex nature of this fragrance, at least regarding young men. I have been enjoying gifting my grandniece and grandnephew with their first decent fragrances carefully picked not to be overly extravagant. Both of them are living rather no-frills lives due to college expenses. It happens that the most reliable place to send packages is to my grandnephew's place of work. He had had only one scent in his life, a drugstore sport-type, and he'd let me know that he didn't want anything with a floral note. When I visited him to see how he liked his and to pick up the Demeter Incense to give his sister, he immediately told me how he particularly loved the one in the small bottle and how many compliments he'd already gotten on it. Confused, I asked which he meant since the two I bought for him were edts in large bottles. He showed me the Demeter and refused to give it up when I said it was for his sister! In the bottle, it smells very feminine, but like some other resins, for instance elemi and amber, it is affected by the body chemistry of the wearer. Again from the bottle it reminded me of an old hippie oil perfume called "Rain" with similar versions made by a few companies. I don't know how it smells on my grandnephew as right then he opened one of his and sprayed it on. Needless to say, I'll be ordering another bottle of Incense.

I have the UK Library of Fragrance version, so I am reviewing on that basis, as the UK scents aren't in the database, however I'm sure they will be the same. This isn't like any incense I've smelt, either in a church or at home with sticks. If I had created it, I would have given it a slightly more smoky, woody, musky smell, mixed in with the sweetness as well. Having said, it isn't an unpleasant smell. It is vanillary sweet, and the dry down is soft & feminine.

This is one of my favorite of the Demeter line. This is not your typical incense fragrance, it is based on Copal incense rather than your typical frankincense note. The smell is woody, herbaceous and almost pine resin like with a spiced vanilla finish. Its one of the darker scents in the line. Definitely unisex. Like all other Demeter's it has a problem with longevity and wears close to the skin. If you love Copal incense its a must have.

Yeah, this is sort of oddly soapy, like clean laundry. I can see the cheap unburned vanila incense comparisons for sure, as it smells like synthetic scent. It’s actually okay, not bad at all, just not what I was expecting for something called ‘incense’.

Very light resin combo- frankincense and myrrh but not really smokey at all - like unburnt insence. Very light but pleasant curchy smell. ⛤⛤

Is there something similar to this? I'm just not sure about the copal compared to frankincense, for example.
