Licorice

yes. just. yes. If you like the scent of salty liqorish, this is it. Having grown up with the good, black liqorish(in T NL), there are so many memories here. I wore it this past christmas, without layering it with anything. very odd, it is kindoff gourmand, but not sweet at all, so I can bear with it. it lasted pretty much all day.I did end up with a migraine, but since I have not had it wearing this fragrance since, that might just have been christmas. still, pay caution if you are extremely sensitive to it. (edit, just realized it might contain almonds, which I'm allergic to, so that would explain my reaction) but this scent!! I like it as a base to layer things with. try it with a rose! I tried with Jo malone's red roses and its both stylish and cool. or try it with something more spicy, like demeters chai tea, they really bring eachother out. It works similar to vanilla as a base (imo not a trained professional), without being sweet, or cloying. and the saltyness.. Very happy with this blind buy, though the comments here had me worried, it was not necessary

OH MY! This is a Good N Plenty clone! If you love the candies, I'm fairly certain you will love this. It is so yummy yummy yummy. I can almost taste the crunchy candy coating melting away in my mouth. I chose to purchase this one in the "perfume oil" version. I don't know if there is a great difference between the splash and the oil form, but I can attest to the fact that the oil smells perfectly like black licorice candies. Not overly powerful, but not tragically subtle. It is mostly a skin scent in this form, but I can smell it on myself without sticking my nose to my skin. Someone else would have to be very close to notice it. I'll probably order this in a spray as I think it would smell marvelous as a hair perfume. It is not terribly long lasting, but it is inexpensive enough to reapply often - and also the packaging of the perfume oil is convenient and can fit easily in a purse or even a pocket. Very Nice! Black licorice lovers... give it a try!

True to its name, sweet black licorice candy! It does have that similar licorice liquor (Sambuca/Ouzo/licorice schnapps) smell but no ETOH and fairly sweet. I swore when I sprayed it in the car it was like sniffing a bag of black licorice whips. There is no spice in this -- just the licorice/anise note. From the bottle its fairly strong but right away settles into a lovely candy sweet licorice. Layered w/ vanilla is really nice. Worn alone, I got 4 hours of wear, it did last on my shirt for over 24 hours tho. When I layered with a vanilla it increased the scent longevity just a bit. It doesn't project too much - which I like. Great scent.

The first initial spray is wonky and harsh but after it settles it smells better. Although, after smelling more licorice scents, I now find this to be a weak representation. Not sure why this is listed as an oriental vanilla because I don't get any when I smell it, and I'm horribly allergic to it. No headaches with this. Interesting. I'm going to order the rollerball of it and see if it's stronger. Edit: So yeah, the roller isn't more concentrated. In fact, it feels like a waste of money because the only thing I can smell from it is vanilla. Wtf, Demeter?! The roller should definitely be listed under "oriental vanilla." A weak one, as I can smell the carrier oil over it. 2nd EDIT: so I got to feeling all mixologist-y today and decided that if these were just going to sit around gathering dust then I'd experiment with them. I didn't realize that the Demeter sprays were so oily, although I feel kinda stupid for not, considering how many I have... Anyway, so I added anise essential oil (2ml) and a tiny amount of clove (.5ml) and it has vastly improved the scent. Also, I was pleased with how well the oils dispersed when added. The rollerball was most improved, because it originally just smelled like carrier oil with trace amounts of vanilla. I'm an idiot for not doing this way sooner!

Interesting scent. I don’t love it like I love Lolita Lempicka note of licorice. This would be nice for layering I think. I will try it with some of my fragrances to see.

Very nice licorice with nothing added, so it isn't too sweet. Either you like the smell of licorice, or you don't. I certainly do!

Another disappointer from Demeter. As much as I love this company's concept as a whole, half of the time they fall flat for me. Which sucks! I love licorice, which was why I was looking so forward to this; the possibilities, the ability to just smell like my favorite snack on days I feel like it. But... Demeter's Licorice is immensely off to me. I can agree on QueenieBee about their feelings on this, there's something just off about it & comparing it to other licorice scents it just isn't right. Enough so that it just sours my experience with it.. To me, no matter what it smells more like a boozy Sambuca or Lucid Absinthe mixed awfully with moonshine as if some fool decided that the crafters of these liquors were letting the herbs "cloud the flavor too much" and decided adding more liquor too it will "help"... which is funny considering Demeter already has a Sambuca, I wonder how it smells compared to this. It's an over alcohol-y based licorice, and that's what I probably should've expected after my past experiences with Demeter's library. Overtly too synthetic & goes too much off model of what scents they're going for to do it right. I guess if you want a licorice fragrance and don't want to fork out too much, go for it but be prepared.

This is probably one of the best Demeter offerings when it comes to representation - it smells exactly like black licorice. I wouldn't personally wear it alone, but it could be great for layering - much like all Demeter fragrances seem to be.

This is definitely a black licorice scent, and it's quite true to life, however it's like pouring Sambuca directly on your skin. At first, the smell is overpowering and spicy, and a little alcoholic, and then *poof*, it fades. So I guess it was just too much for me to handle. Once it softened, it was nice but then it was gone too fast. I wish it was a little softer initially and then lasted longer. I originally bought it for layering, but the scent is too overpowering for that unless you REALLY like licorice. If you are a licorice super fan though, this is for you!!
