Riding Crop

I've had this for a while, but only worn it a few times. Part of the reason is the notorious short longevity of Demeter fragrances. But really, Riding Crop is surprisingly long-lasting. By that, I mean it radiates for a couple of hours, and calms down after that into a typical base-note. I use this one mostly for layering with brighter fragrances. To me, the explosion of leather in the opening of some of my perfumes is EXACTLY what they need before they reach their dry-down phase where I truly love them. In this way, this is a perfect must-have for those who love the heavier, darker scents. It's as if my fragrances morphs throughout the day into something complete different . . . something I'm digging. The fragrance itself is new leather. It smells like black leather bridles to me. Not sure why I smell the color, other than it being a bit more hard. It's not purse smell. It's not wallet smell. It's not the smell of your favorite leather jacket. This is a tack store with the rows and rows of bridles, halters, and saddles to chose from. It's the kind of place I've spent hours in, and I adore it!

It is a pleasant leather scent, with the pleasantness outweighing the leatheriness. I'm not sure what accord it is, but there's a fresh "spa" dimension to this. It smells more like the leather department of a large store, near the perfumes section, rather than the leather items themselves. The stiletto depicted next to the bottle is appropriate, as this doesn't conjure up the more masculine aspects of leather.

Let's be real - it smells like a sex shop. Y'know that plasticky fake leather scent? The smell of pretend whips and dildos? That's what this is. I bought it for the novelty factor. Demeter's Russian Leather is by far more wearable. Still, it's a fun purchase I don't totally regret.

A very true leather scent with some woody/smoky undertones. Has a masculine edge, but I like that about it. It's a bit harsh. It's not for everyone. Smells of new leather ie; leather and the chemicals used to process it.

This is FAB. Perfect for adding another masculine dimension to a lot of fragrances in your wardrobe that may need something extra, a boost or that need to be toned down. Cheers!

Robust new car smell. The aldehydes and a Pine Sol-esque scent are dominant over the leather, especially at first. It's like sniffing the inside of a car dealership. This is quite strong and long-lasting, especially for a Demeter. You can get 3-4 hours of moderate sillage without reapplying. I tried layering with BBW Rose body spray and the two blended quite well. Ultimately, this is too new car for me. I'll try Demeter's Leather to see if that's more to my taste. If you don't mind new car smell, I think Riding Crop is a great one for layering!

At first I couldn't tell the difference between this and Demeter's Leather, but this one is definitely stronger. For me, it's almost a little too much, and I do find it to have more of an animalic quality to it than Leather, which comes off a little bit cleaner and colder.

yeah, kind of a new car, kind of a calone scent, clean and synthetic and not really leathery. i'm not sure what the deal is with the demeter leather scents but they just don't smell like leather, not animalic at all. vaguely greasy

On paper it smells decent, a tiny bit leathery but mostly spicy and rubbery with an antiseptic note, but on my skin it's completely revolting. Horrible horrible cheap leather and headache-inducing plastic smell, like new furniture offgassing. People in the comments who say it smells like a sex shop are wrong because I work at a sex shop and this is worse. This was given to me by a friend who didn't like it but it's so vile I should have asked her to pay me to take it off her hands

I like the riding crop fragrance alone or mixed with other demeter fragrances. Today I tried mixing lilac and riding crop which was a nice combination that lasted about 2 hours. My husband mixed riding crop and oud and that smelled sufficiently masculine and also lasted about 2 hours. Unlike some high end perfumes/colognes, the demeter fragrances maintain their scent until they fade away without turning powdery and/or musty.

Riding Crop is the best "new car smell" I have come across in all the frag samples I've tested over the past few years. There's a leather scent there, but also something peppery and something lemony-sweet. It's not the actually VOC/off-gassing scent of a new car, but very close to the New Car scent by Chemical Guys. I actually like it a lot.

Tops with leather and latex, changes position with high end water-base lube and a hint of drying spice–cardamom, perhaps–and bottoms with pleasant musk and a post-coital smoke. Fun. Doesn’t last long, and stains the clothes a bit.

Demeter Riding Crop smells exactly like new leather goods. If you walk past the handbag section of a dept store that slightly sweet and powdery leathery--that scent is what is in this bottle. The inside of a new leather purse.

UNHHHH! Trying to find the appropriate floral compliment. Ylang-ylang is *not* it--eau de urinal cake. Jasmine or gardenia maybe? Update: NEROLI

Very very chemical leather. I prefer Demeter Russian Leather for something actually wearable by itself.
