Salt Air

I absolutely love this. I've been searching for a marine scent that wouldn't break the bank and wouldn't be too perfume-y like Cool Water or other aquatic scents from the 90s. This fit the bill. Like others have mentioned this smells like an east coast ocean- crisp and clean, not a suntan oil beach scent. This is the scent of walking beside the ocean in the morning in the winter. There's something cold about it that is enchanting. I also love the discontinued "Pure Turquoise" by Ralph Lauren and found some shower gel online. I'm really enjoying the shower gel layered with the Salt Air. For a more "beach/ suntan" scent, I've enjoyed layering Estee Lauder's Bronze Goddess over the Salt Air. I'm still looking for a perfect marine scent but this is getting me closer and allowing me to experiment.

I think what polarizes this scent is how this dries down on the skin for people. To me, on my skin, this scent is reminiscent of that comforting smell of finally drying off after a long day at the beach. It is very aquatic, it has a summer vacation vibe, almost like I just slathered on sunscreen and can feel my hair frizz from the humidity. It is a very simple scent. Demeter is one note, and that is what I love about it. Add this scent to any aquatic or light floral EDP and you create more complexity, the saltiness is divine and adds to many other scents well. I added this scent to D&B Light Blue and there is no turning back, it smells amazing!

to me it smells pretty much exactly like my skin after a day at the beach. a little musky, a little salty, a little sweet, some lingering sunscreen. very happy because i'm kind of obsessed with how my skin in particular smells in that scenario, but finding something similar in perfumery feels like trying to find a needle in a haystack blindfolded. so glad i decided to try this one despite copious negative reviews across different sites. low projection makes sense for this kind of fragrance, no issues with longevity in winter temperatures. will for sure layer well with other fragrances i find need salt

Aquatics are sometimes disparaged by perfume aficionados, but they are my dirty (or not-so-dirty) little secret, and this is one of my favourites. To my nose, this is a salty-sweet floral in a fresh sea breeze. It's a beautiful smell of freedom to me, like walking along ocean cliffs in summer. Uplifting, and inspiring. EDIT: In the dry-down, the smell of seaweed is quite noticeable; I personally love this, it's part of the scent's authenticity for me, but it may not appeal to everyone.

LOVE. You're taking a walk on a foggy NorCal beach and you're wearing the kind of sunscreen that comes out of a spray can but it's unscented. Salt Air smells like negative ions evaporating into the air from the ocean. This is the best scent I've tried from Demeter. It's unobtrusive and atmospheric and lasts quite a while. The only problem, like with other Demeters is that it is a little oily coming out of the atomizer.

The name says everything about it: a concentrated breeze of air brought by the wave hitting the shore. It's fresh, airy, and very salty! The opening is very strong. Towards the drydown I can also get some smell reminding me of sand. The sillage is pretty close to skin and it lasts about 5 hours on me. It's a fun fragrance while you're craving for sea. I haven't yet tried layering it but I think it's a good option.

This stands fine on its own, but absolutely rocks as a layer on top of aquatic scents such as the Tommy Bahama Maritime’s and the Bvlgari Aqva’s. Imagine the scent of salty ocean seawater air-dried upon the skin and kissed by the sun. It’s photorealistic, actually. It tells a story and places you right on a beach.

This smells exactly like when you're laying at the pool all day and you grab your towel, and you get that waft of sunblock mixed with chlorine, and that warm cotton from it baking in the sun. Omg it's literally that and I really love it-- but it lasts about 5 minutes😭

this is so nice, it smells just like sun warmed, sandy skin. It is so fresh, quite masculine and reminds me of the seaside :) longevity and projection on my skin were good, moderate.

I love this scent! Smells so summery! Fresh and clean, and sexy too! One of my go-to fragrances. The only drawback is that it doesn't have great staying power.

I love the whole concept of a fragrance library, and Demeter has done a wonderful job of creating single note scents for wearing and blending, as well as some interesting blended scents. Salt Air is one of these... This begins rather fruity in a light way with a great salty note, like salt on warm watermelon. The fruity hints quickly fade and it becomes much more airy and green, with that beachy tinge you get walking along the ocean's shore. I can almost see the palm leaves waving in the seaborne wind, and feel the warm sand underfoot. A brilliant capturing of air on water where it meets the land. Gather some driftwood for a bonfire, and mix a pitcher of tropical drinks and the seaside experience would be complete... Sillage: okay Longevity: decent Overall: 3.5/5 I expected a harsh salty note and ozone or aldehydes, but this is really nice! It is more than a single note scent but slightly less than an EDT. I like this much more than I thought I would. Dry, fresh and brisk-it does the seaside thing very well...almost like Set Sail St Bart's sans exotic fruit and booze. And, really, who says the salty sea air smell (one I love) belongs to women solely? This is definitely a unisex fragrance. *A special thanks to you, chelle2513, for the HUGE spray sample!! It smells EXACTLY like one type of black licorice mentol candy we have in czech rep (hašlerky) and I kinda love it 🤷♂️ that licorice is not very strong its more like someone is sucking that Candy nearby but its so similar it genuinely brought me joy. It feels tiny bit watery a bit like a cucumber or melon but more airy slightly green. I also get the salt - I doesnt smell salty but it sort of „tastes“ salty? Cant really describe it its the feeling of salty not the taste, interesting really for such a cheap fragrance, it also feels very natural (unlike every other demeter I tried) even though its probably not. I could also See it smelling like the breeze you get when walking towards beach through dry piny Forest, but I dont really get sea in this. This is the last one I ordered and the only one I really like, which makes me want to try other original creations like mountain air. The food ones like coconut or golden delicious were horrendous 🤢 Ambergris was sort of alright and this is a hit for me. But it doesnt really have much use as a perfume I feel, It kinda stays on skin and clothes but there is no sillage at all, like 15cm Tops and I am being generous. It makes the skin smell good though. 8/10

Yes, I want to smell like I spent the day at the beach; fresh ocean breeze, salty sea water, and the likes, which is why I purchased Demeter Salt Air. The reviews here are mixed regarding if this fragrance actually smells like it's name. Like other reviewers mentioned, I too get a salty-melon-cocktail vibe from first spritz (so yes, there are more notes then salt and seawater as listed). I asked my friend if she thought it smelled like a fresh ocean breeze and she said "not really, but if that's what you want it to smell like then that is what it will smell like to you" What a head trip! but she is absolutely right. Smelling it on myself now I get suntan lotion, melon, and salt - easily reminding me of a day at the beach - so I am satisfied with this fragrance (by itself and for layering purposes). So what if it doesn't last hours and hours on the skin? The bottle is 4ozs and inexpensive compared to other fragrances. (Also, this fragrance reminds me of a lighter and bearable version of TM Womanity)

I bought a few Demeter splashes blind to try them out as I've been looking for something new for the summer, and today is Salt Air. Like Thunderstorm, another aquatic with mild sillage. This is much more marine—it's as advertised. Clean, fresh salt water! When I smell it, I can feel the salt taste buds on my tongue salivating and trying to figure out what's going on. While I would say this is a unisex scent, there is something mildly sweet under the surface, and it's not a floral for me. More like... melon? Cucumber? Overall: it's very mild salt water with a mild fruity undertone, but nice nonetheless. Could be a good on-the-go day scent for when you want to wear something light and summer-y. I ended up blending it with BPAL's Jolly Roger, which is a little nutty on my skin, and the salt really popped the rum notes on that perfume into something gorgeous. I think as other people suggested, this might be a fun one to experiment with other marine or aquatic or summer scents.

I bought this for the purpose of layering, which is an area that I think Demeter excels in. I wanted to put it on top of some of the indie tropical perfumes (think coconut, pineapple, or mango heavy scents) I’ve accumulated over the past few summers. At first, it was a bit disappointing; smelled like a Yankee candle. As the initial spray started to soften and it no longer had the presence of a cheap air freshener, the smell became subtle and really transportive. To me, it smells like a summer day on a beach that isn’t overrun with seaweed and fish smells. Longevity and sillage are what you would (or should) expect out of a <$20 eau de cologne. This is intended to smell good and simple on the skin, not declare your arrival to everyone in the room. I can’t recommend it (or most other Demeter perfumes) enough for layering purposes. It’s a cheap and efficient way to add an extra layer of depth to a complimentary perfume you have in your collection.

I just got a HUGE mail order box from Demeter, and this was the very first one I tried. At first, it reminded me a lot of Innocence by Chloe, with some sort of flowery and very powdery note, but as it dried down I got an actual scent of sea salt breeze - that smell you get after spending a day at sea, and I just LOVE IT! I can smell salty skin (it reminds how, as a child, I loved licking the salt off my skin after a swim in the sea), and a very light flower/powder residue. I think I'll get a big bottle of this one in my next order. Longevity is pretty good, yet the sillage, as many have mentioned - minimal. UPDATE - I sprayed it before leaving for work, and for the first hour, driving in my car, it was a sillage monster. Maybe I oversprayed it, but I actually had to open the windows just to get a whiff of fresh (not salty) air. Gladly it mellows down after a while :)

Not so much a beachy vacation scent- and more a rocky coastal one. Like the mist that sprays up as waves crash against the lighthouse trail. It’s got a briney quality, but in all the best ways. I tried this perfume many years ago in a roller form and was pleased with the absence of a hyper-aquatic masculine profile. This fragrance makes me feel like I’m about to send a soothing siren song across Pacific Northwest waves. Linear, unisex (but I feel pretty/feminine wearing it), easy to wear. It’s a gentle, clean marine scent that I find would be perfect for layering. Stays close to the skin and lasts a couple hours. I have the cologne spray but I’d recommend the smaller roller ball version to slip into your bag for reapplication.

Demeter Salt Air is a scent I owned several years ago. When I moved back to my home from Florida, I was so wistful for my lost relationship that I couldn't wear it because it's so evocative of the sands and ocean of the Gulf of Mexico. Now, I'm ready to wear Salt Air again but here is a word of caution: it only works, really, layered over a floral, citrus, or coconut note, whether you choose another fragrance or a lotion. Carlos Santana, Bobbi Brown Beach, and Lavanila Vanilla Coconut are good choices as is old-fashioned Hawaiian Tropic tanning oil for layering Salt Air and creating a vacation in your mind. Just be ready to be taken there.

i love the salty smell you get after you’ve been in the water. this is a nice, beachy, pool, salty scent. i described it to my friend as the smell after you’ve been in the water and then sat in the sun to dry off for a bit, or lounging by a hotel pool and then going to shower off after. it’s the kind of saltiness you smell in some generic sunscreen brands, which i like. great to add some more complexity to summer scents. i will say, it’s a touch more powdery than i was expecting on the opening, but i don’t hate it, and for the price i think it’s worth purchasing just to see what fragrances it works with for layering.

This one smells similar to Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aqua Motu but more smoother and more wearable. I like Aqua Motu but I'm sometimes scare to wear it. It's kind brutal... this one is more reachable. It's more sweeter ? even if there's no sweet notes in the description. It's a salty aquatic smell done in a classical way. Unisex. Poor longevity but it is Demeter. At the price tag it's difficult to complain. It is amazing when sprayed in the hair. You'll get a discrete smell of the sea all day long. Perfect for a week-end at Miami.

Cucumber and greenish unripe melon on me, fading very soon to a sweet amber-y warmth like sunset. I could only smell it faintly after the first 1/2 hour unless I actually sniffed my wrist but my fiancé and others could still smell it hours later so I imagine it would be pretty easy to overdo it or re-apply when not needed. I received it as a little rollerball in my July Ipsy Glam Bag and liked it very much for occasional fun summer wear. I don't consider it complex or something I would wear more than casually.

Full marks for capturing this scent in a bottle. The first time I tried this out was in a large department store one Christmas with a member of my family. On first sniff I was immediately transported to all the seaside places I love to visit. I got quite excited and tried to make my companion understand but was told to pipe down by them as my tone was embarrassing! Oh well, scent is a personal experience after all... the fragrance itself is a lovely clean salt like sea spray. This perfume is a lot of fun.

I tested this on a paper strip at Boscov's. I thought this fragrance was quite reminiscent of mid-Atlantic coast salty ocean air. Think of standing by the beach, or a few blocks away. There seems to be a dash of something fresh in there too. I like this a lot. I'm not sure if I would wear it (home fragrance?), but it would be good if I felt homesick for the East coast. It smells somewhat similar to Aqua Kiss by Victoria's Secret (which I bought for a friend).

This simply doesn't smell like real salty air by the sea. It is rather synthetic. It has a pleasant clean marine smell and would make a great room scent, though. None of the oceans I'm familiar with smells this sweet and rounded out. I don't get the rough texture of salt that makes the ocean the ocean. That said, it's a relaxing fragrance that is reminiscent of the ocean, so I'll probably buy a bottle considering the low price.

Imagine youre in a pool NEXT to the sea. There is a sea and you chose to take a dip in a chlorine filled luke warm water. That is the smell of this. I kinda dig it. It IS indeed salty. But there is something damp and synthetic in it. THANKFULLY NO COCONUT. It is not sweet at all. There is a hint of citrus however.

Salt Air = Kahala Hawaiian Surf. Same scent just renamed/rebranded. nice oceany light fragrance perfect for summer. sweeter than notes listed, more than what is listed is in this. definitely unisex. getting 6 hrs out of it so far but sits close. Reminds me of being on the beach smelling surf in the air.

Perfect for layering! I have a rollerball, and it's great to roll some on my wrists before spritzing a different fragrance on them. It's really pleasant by itself, too! It's very soft, not harsh or bitingly salty at all. It reminds me of the Sun and Sand candle from Yankee Candle.

This fragrance is like a mixture of Salt Air by Skylar and Salt by Ellis Brooklyn. In Demeter's scent, I get more than just salt air and smell a bit of the sandy beach, too. The watery notes aren't too strong or sharp. This is a pleasant scent for a Summer day.

I like it but it's oddly sweet for a perfume with water notes and salt as its listed pyramid notes. It's got to have something else in there. Tropical flowers, perhaps. It's like if a typical marine fragrance had a "pour femme" version.

One of my favourites from Demeter Fragrance. It really does smell like a day at the beach. I honestly don't know how anyone can dislike this. It's deliciously summery. Pair with Demeter's Mango and Hawaiian Vanilla, and a cocktail!

Salt, a whisper of metallic and a bigger one of coconut. I'm a little annoyed with the coconut note, because the smell of ocean air doesn't smell like suntan lotion to me. It's still a pleasant fragrance. I have the perfume oil.

This one's actually not that bad. beach-like, reminiscent of beach, sand and salty sea/ocean water. It dries down to white floral scent with beach like elements off course. silage 2 hours max.

I am new to perfumes. This is one of three Demeter fragrances I purchased. Subtle and ozonic, with a strong note of aniseed. Not really any salt in it.

Salt Air, is a major misnomer. What this perfume smells of is lilies (take your pick of which lily). I detect no notes that to me smell of salty air. It’s a nice and fresh fragrance, yes, but nothing to do with the sea. A humid forest grove, a quality soap, a fancy fabric softener, a funeral bouquet, these are all things I think of when I smell this perfume. Lily bomb would be a better name. On a side note, spraying this on my arm makes that spot feel both cool and warm at the same time, for a long time now. Feels a bit like those sport liniments that you rub on your skin, Tiger Balm and the like. Just, not in a good way, more like the perfume is trying corrode it’s way through my hide. I feel a strong desire to go and wash this of now before I turn into one of those russian krokodil junkies. TLDR: Nice lily aroma, no sea notes, burns my skin.

In my opinion, Salt Air is a generic and utterly overrated scent. I bought it because I wanted something relaxing that reminded my of a vacation by the beach. Instead, my skin smelled like it does after leaving the steam room of a spa, just without the presence of a dominant essential oil. This is not an inherently bad thing, but it does bore me to the core. I miss the pungency of actual salt. I miss the freshness of a breeze. I miss a hint of the sea. Instead, what I smell is a light, bright, sunny floral perfume with slightly synthetic undercurrents, about which I understand why it is a crowdpleaser, but that utterly fails to please me. Salt Air lasted 4 hours plus on my skin. I consider it unisex with slightly feminine qualities. And, despite it not being a scent for me personally, - objectively - I do consider it an okay fragrance.

FYI I have the perfume oil rollerball in this scent. It smells exactly like that Swedish Dream Sea Salt soap they sell in stores like Anthropologie. Super fresh, slight cucumber/melon vibe that youthful aquatics give off. I read a review that said it tickles your nose, and that is what I mean by fresh. I like it but its longevity is maybe 1hr and zero sillage. I want to try the spray version because I wouldn’t mind chucking it in my beach bag and topping up throughout the day.

when it doesn't smell like straight up alcohol, it's amazing and clean. it reminds me of something from my childhood, maybe some kind of body splash, shower gel, shampoo?

Smells soapy and clean, not like salt air. Silage is not very long, maybe a few hours. Not a bad scent but not one I would buy again.

My first Demeter fragrance (blind buy) The fragrance itself is delivered in unusual but funny packaging. Everything about it is kind of cheap. Its almost like a novelty item to own in the fragrance community. In Europe its called The Library of Fragrance, instead of Demeter. I cannot say that I recommend it. It was a blind buy from my side, and not a safe one. A very chemical scent. After a long time it calms down to what one was hoping it is in the first place. But that is in the short end of its lifespan on your skin. I think its made as a short term fragrance to lift your spirits in its direction, not as a long-lasting, scent leaving fragrance. Extremely oily when applied and stays that way for a long time. Made me a little nauseous, even. All in all, not a safe blind buy, by others opinions the worst Demeter fragrance. If you want to try out this house I recommend you avoid this scent as your first one. Thank you fragrance community, Arkljuta

Honestly, i couldnt smell much at all :( I did purchase the rollerball oil, for reference. Regardless, here's my review: Subtle, dryer sheet / clean linens kind of vibe. Synthetic, stormy skies. I do not detect any salt whatsoever. I did apply a very genrous amount on clean, moisturized skin. I can smell something stormy, like the feeling you get right before it rains on the beach, very subtle synthetic freshness, and the plastic roller ball itself. Lots and lots of plastic roller ball. I did also try layering it with the VS Pink Water Mist, which is lovely and this was what I had intended to layer it with. You can't smell the oil at all with most things layered over it, unfortunately:( Would stick with the VS Pink Water Mist lotion if you can get your hands on it! It's sticky and I'm convinced it will layer well with any salty/marine/non citrus aquatic type of fragrance :) The rollerball version is not worth it, maybe the mist is!

I own several Demeter fragrances and the Salt Air is the worst. And what do you know, it’s very long-lasting. By the end of the day I couldn’t wait to scrab it off my skin. It smells nothing like salt air, but more like very cheap cleaning detergent. Demeter fragrances usually stay true to the name on the bottle, but with this one is not the case. It doesn’t smell like salt air, doesn’t smell like the beach or ocean, no hint of anything like that. Sad but true.

I gave this a couple tries on its own and found it sharp and dirty in a way I don’t care for. It does definitely bring you to an oceanside boardwalk in your mind. So I understand why some people are liking it. I tried layering... first with Vanilla grapefruit from LaVanille. Not a winner. Then with pink sugar creamy sunshine. Neither of these combos solved the problem of the sharp and dirty dry down. I will probably not finish the sample of this.

Smelling this for the first hour or two really turns my stomach - I think there's some fresh fruity/salty note in here that I can't get away from fast enough. This one smells pretty good layered, though - adds a nice sweet fruity freshness to other scents. I wouldn't ever wear this one on its own, though - almost all of the Demeter fresh/natural scents make me feel a bit queasy.

I agree with dna. All I can think of when I smell Salt Air is air freshener, and cheap air freshener at that. I expected something more along the lines of Demeter Ocean, which I like. But Salt Air is cheap, light florals on me - Plug-ins, not even Wall Flowers :(

I can imagine this smells interesting layered with something else, but on its own, it smells just like Radox bath salts to me. For a more sophisticated take on the concept of a sea scent, I'll stick to Eau des Merveilles.

straight up black licorice. reminds me of the time i got way too shitfaced on sambuca (yuck!) at the local fair and threw up all over the place behind the school portables.
