Sushi

Bright, fresh, near lemon, heavy dash of green. Light but still works in winter unlike a lot of citrus. Very little staying power and practically requires overspraying. "Sushi" only if you typically eat heavier American fare and consider sushi still dinner but much lighter and more fleeting than an average meal. Not luxurious, fishy, or international. No regrets on getting the sampler but given how brief its life is and how many pumps were required to make it noticeable I'm not likely to rebuy.

Does it smell like sushi? Not really - too much citrus (I want to say grapefruit), too little ginger (where is it?), seaweed or rice. But this smells great - very fresh, totally happy, light, fun. It's not at all yummy, but the scent is very good. So, do I want to smell like "Sushi"? I guess I do! Longevity is very weak, sillage rather minimal, sadly.

This smells a little like a california roll - predominantly of the soft steam from vinagered sushi rice, a hint of pickled ginger and a touch of seaweed. It's very pretty and light.

Mmm...reminds me of california rolls. I think I might buy it soon.

When I travel, I like to bring along a new fragrance sample to use on the trip to help me create a “scent memory” - whenever I smell it after the trip, it’ll remind me of that time and bring back memories. Heading to Japan and Demeter’s Green Tea was on backorder, so Sushi was the obvious second choice. I was hoping for a salty, briny seaweed marine with vinegar-seasoned sushi rice and hints of ginger. On a tester, I get a blast of straight-up Lemon Pledge and not much else. It’s a sweet lemon, like lemon zest or a lemon candy. A review mentioned lemon Clorox wipes and I don’t disagree. My parter said “It smells like the inside of a mall.” When worn, I also get mostly “lemon cleaning product,” which fades a little to give way for something a bit more warm and musky. Maybe a hint of ginger, but mostly “generic cheap cologne scent with lemon.” If I’d sprayed this without knowing what it was, I never would have guessed it was related to sushi. Not eating it, not being in a sushi restaurant. I probably would have guessed it was called something like Lemon Drop, or maybe Hot Toddy. Such a strong lemon note seems like a bit of an odd choice for a “sushi” scent since lemon isn’t associated with eating sushi/sashimi at all. Overall, I think it was a bit of a stretch to market this as sushi-related scent and it’s a bit too lemony-sweet for me to want to wear every day on my trip.
