Vetiver Eau de Toilette

This is an odd juice. It contains some aspects of the great vetiver creations that I love yet it has something to it that ruins it for me. The off-putting note is presently impossible for me to adequately describe. The vetiver has a bit of the savory salty quality I love, happily has the absence of iso-e, but the off note is something which I keep hoping will simply be a nice "tangy" quality but it doesn't work- it creates an unpleasant sensation that seems to be in the back of the mouth and throat- sort of sour- but not just sour, sort of acrid- but not fresh crisp bitterness, more stale and cloying. I have tried repeatedly to enjoy this as it seemed at first that it could be an extremely inexpensive gem with just a whisper of something reminiscent of the original Guerlain and Etro vetivers, but alas- this just does not work- the "off" note is a deal breaker since I find myself feeling slightly nauseated when I wear this. I wore it several times because I stubbornly kept trying to figure this one out- as if I could find a way to understand it and then like it- like squinting with my nose - the way one might keep trying to look at a work of visual art and keep looking from different angles and with fuzzy focus or squinted eyes to understand a painting. So I kept inhaling as if I could discover "how" to smell it in a way I could love it. I suppose I have been attempting to "acquire" the taste for it, but I've given up on this quest, and instead I'll go back to enjoy the beauty of the many vetivers I have and love, as they command not only higher prices but high praise, and this one does not. Sometimes you get more than you paid for, but not in this case.

This is a very resinous and smoky vetiver which I think makes it is a more true vetiver smell whereas most vetiver "interpretations" tend toward a greener smell. Dry and earthy and deep, like a patchouli oil. Intoxicating.
