Wednesday's Child

The brand describes this perfume as being quite polarising and despite kinda feeling a bit weirded out by the notes listed on the website, I was intrigued enough to buy a sample. The sillage on this is STRONG. It took me months to figure out how to best use this on me because I definitely have the tendency to apply on all my pulse points plus more, and if I can spray whatever perfume I am using all over my clothes and hair, I do just that. This to me smells like soy sauce when I do that. It's not a smell I dislike in general, but I also do not want to smell like soy sauce. The dry down is a nice, mature woodsy scent which I like much more than the soy sauce smell. Nowadays, I apply this much more sparingly and nowhere near my face or nose. Just behind my ears, on my wrists and maybe a little on my chest if I'm wearing lots of layers on the day. Now I can appreciate the weird mix of coffee and paint here, which does end up still smelling a little savoury like soy sauce. But the dry down happens a lot more gradually when you apply just a little. Once my sample is finally out – which may be some time since a little for me truly goes a long way – I'm nervous about them not bringing this back as the listing on the website is gone atm and is now seemingly replaced by a new iteration called Wednesday's Nevermore. I've tried that one as well, but it's a little more herbal, earthier than this one. Maybe a little more mainstream in comparison too. Hope they can bring back Wednesday's Child one day.

Coffee coffee coffee, dark roast, maybe even espresso beans. A dark moody fragrance, very bitter, astringent, and biting, yet somehow works for me. I tend to like smells that are softer and “round”, this is very jagged and sharp, but balanced. Mostly coffee forward, but I get the animalics, and resins supporting the more moody atmosphere. I believe I get what is meant by the spray paint, it’s a chemical-y astringent top note, odd but pleasant. I’ve quite enjoyed the diversity of d.grayi’s catalogue as I work my way through some samples.
