Empress of Fashion

This beauty has almost everything I desire from a perfume , I only need to add oud oil. Empress of Fashion is very similar to Noir de Noir ( Tom Ford ). The aromatic composition is like perceiving suede leather covered by a touch of creaminess and a little bit of Middle Eastern spices. It can be shared for a midnight date, I consider it as nocturnal , sexy and sophisticated. The longevity is excellent, stays during days when is applied on fabrics and leather goods. On the skin the longevity is about 10 hours. The projection can be from moderate to strong , depending on how much you applied. For the price, I think this beauty is worth to acquire and collect, everything about this perfume is exceptional.

Blind bought this because I found it at a bargain and at first spray I thought I made a mistake. This opens with a strong chemical almost petroleum type note (think Fahrenheit or Yurman Essence Extract) which might be from the cypriol oil. I wasn't turn off by it, but when mixed with the other notes I found it a little off putting. The rose here is very bright but extremely sour; there is nothing sweet, fresh or floral about this as the geranium is also quite bitter and in your face. The black current, vanilla and mimosa is almost non existent. I put it back in the box (the bottle and packaging is exquisite) and chalked it up as a bad decision. A few months later, I decided to spray my arm and once again the sourness hit me and I thought, ok I remember why I never wear this, forgot about it, and went about my day. Low and behold, hours later, I started getting very interesting whiffs of something very elegant only to realize it was coming from my arm. Empress of Fashion is a very difficult fragrance to wrap your head around but if worn correctly (i.e. spray lightly) and give it ample time to breath and settle, it is a rather sophisticated and beautiful. One has to appreciate a heavy and bold scent, as this isn't casual, fun or flirty. This a mature, dressed-up, going to a formal gala in the dead of winter type of experience. Heavy, powdery and rosy maybe best describes it but I find it very complex and not easy to put into words how this smells. If you see this in the $40-50 range (it retailed in the $200+ range when released) than I say grab it if you want to add a complex lone wolf to your fragrance wardrobe. You won't use it every day, or maybe not even once a month, but when the occasion calls for a drop dead knock out elegant punch, this will more then foot the bill. I'm keeping my bottle after all...

Empress of Fashion by Diana Vreeland is a floral, oriental green perfume that will grow on you the more you wear it. the first time I have tried it I was disappointed as it was too feminine for my taste in perfumes. over the time, I started to appreciate the clever blend of notes that wrap around the main star, rose. it opens with a green fresh burst of saffron that is blended with cassis and a hint of pink pepper and they have done it so well that you can barely separate them. then, then scent of rose, that smells fruity and sweet, thanks to blackcurrant, emerges. it does not last for a long time on the skin but it has a nj e projection. rating: 4/5

Huh! I get nothing but creamy synthetic sandalwood from this. Ok maybe vanilla sandalwood? Certainly NONE of the notes listed though. It’s fine. Kind of boring but would probably layer well with a violet perfume.
