Ambre Nuit

I’m going to have to chime in here with my penny’s-worth of opinion on the “reformulation’” of Dior Ambre Nuit and before everyone starts shouting at me, I’m going to post this on both listings for Ambre Nuit, as my review relates to both, so forgive me! First off........ this absolutely stunning work of art has been my signature Autumn-Winter fragrance since I first discovered it back in 2012 and if I’m perfectly honest, I’ll often wear it on and off in spring and summer too, just because I can’t get enough of it and miss it like mad when I don’t wear it for a while! Beautiful warm, honeyed ambergris accompanied by rose blended with delicate pink pepper and muted citruses........ it’s just so bloody amazing! Sensual, sumptuous and enveloping, it’s no wonder that Ambre Nuit is held in such high esteem within our community and clearly, it sells well enough for Dior for them to keep it within the Privee/Maison Dior line since 2009, while many of its contemporaries have been discontinued. I’ve always stood back in wonder and watched while the Creed crowd work themselves into a frenzy over Aventus individual batch codes and which code and year is the best and worst, which is fine if that floats your boat and good luck to you but I’ll steer well clear of all that malarkey thanks. But....... that being said, I do think that, whilst not necessarily individual batch codes but more the year the batches are produced or rather the year that the natural elements in the higher-end fragrances are harvested and the environmental conditions they were grown in, have a huge bearing on the finished fragrance. Not unlike wine, where the grape harvest quality can vary greatly depending on the weather and soil conditions, the same applies to most naturally grown ingredients, so let’s not lose sight of that fact when we’re discussing the “reformulation” conundrum. As I’ve been informed, Dior produce/grow the majority of their own natural components for their Dior Privèe/Maison Christian Dior line, one would assume that they have very tight quality control over these elements, so that shouldn’t be a factor but nonetheless, it must be a variable. In my many experiences of Ambre Nuit production from the 4 different bottles that I own, with production dates from 3 different years; 2012, two from 2016 and 2019, I can say categorically that yes, yes indeed there is a big difference between 2019 and the other ‘vintages’, primarily in the longevity but also in the projection to a lesser degree. The question is though ...... is that because the older versions have ‘steeped’ in the bottles over the years, enhancing the efficacy of the components or is it because of replacement or reformulation of ingredients, EU and/or IFRA regulations or something else? We may never know the answer to this question but like the review from @darKSaga below, I have had conversations with the fantastic sales associates & regional managers for Dior at Selfridges & Harrods here in London and Dior boutiques in Paris but ultimately, no sales associate working for a brand like Dior or most others come to that, would tell you even if it were reformulated because if you’re an existing user of the fragrance in question, they run the risk of you not buying it again and if the fragrance is new to you, that information is irrelevant anyway. Also, bear in mind that the sales staff wouldn’t necessarily be told themselves by the regional managers or head office, so they may not necessarily be aware if that were the case and so their default position, should the question be asked is ..... ‘no, there’s been no reformulation as far as I’m aware.’ All of my rambling aside though and in my own very personal opinion, Ambre Nuit (pre 2018) is an absolute stunning fragrance and deserves to be on its pedestal; sensual, comforting & warm whilst oozing class, elegance and sophistication. If I was forced to only own three fragrances for the rest of my life, this would be one of them without question. The post 2018 version less so unfortunately as the 250ml bottle I have is distinctly weaker in longevity, projection and sillage & whilst it retains the obvious Ambre Nuit DNA, it is somewhat lacking for me in comparison I’m afraid but I still wear it on occasion regardless.

Ambre Nuit is a scent that I've heard talked about for a couple of years now. I watched Youtube and it's on every guy's Winter/Fall niche list. I finally got on Dior's website and was browsing their "higher priced" stuff such as Oud Ispahan, Ambre Nuit, etc. Almost every Dior I own is a designer release so I decided to purchase one of these and I decided on Ambre Nuit. The reason for this is because I like amber scents. I was a little concerned after purchasing this because IMMEDIATELY after I got the confirmation email I was checking to see what this smelled like. I read the words "La Nuit De L'Homme" and I about fell out of my chair. The panic set in and I was like, "Aw sh*t! I already own this scent. Why?!" I got the package in the mail and nervously opened it up. I sprayed it on my hand for the test (because I live dangerously and blind buy stuff that I shouldn't). I'm wearing it as my SOTD and I got this near the beginning of last year. Here's what I think about it. The Smell: Don't expect mind-blowing changes on this one. Very linear. I never would have pegged this to be two notes (according to the note breakdown on this site). For the record, I barely get the rose in this. This is a straight up Amber bomb. The amber does come off kind of powdery which can happen. It is super strong. I put on 3 sprays (overkill by the way) and my room has been taken over by this scent. No complaints here. I've worn it to work multiple times (which is crazy) and I was noticed quickly. I did not even make it down the hall from the time clock when I hear, "What is that? Smells really good." The girl smelled me and was like, "I knew it was you." For those who compared it to LNDL - nope. I don't see it at all. 8/10 Projection: It's strong. You'll get noticed 10/10 Price: $100 for 40 mL ($2.50 per mL), $250 for 125 mL ($2 per mL, which is what I have). I would say that's not bad honestly. This is also great quality and I think you get what you pay for in this scent. 8/10 Versatility: It's been cold lately. This stuff is MADE for cold weather, I swear. You could definitely wear it in the Fall as well. It'd definitely be a good date scent as well. Wearing it in the heat is (to quote Monty Python) "Right out!" I've worn it to the gym and it became cloying really fast. Depending on where you work, I would also be cautious about wearing it on the job. I got lucky on the blind buy. Again. I'm pushing my luck because I know, eventually, I'm going to get burned. I like the scent and was glad (plus fortunate) that it works so well on my skin. I do recommend trying it out for yourself. Dior, from what I have been told, has some winners in this line and, apparently, this is one of them. Get a sample and let me know about your experience.

Ambre Nuit (2 ml. Decants from friend, thank you) This is definitely on my buy list. This is Honeyed Amber with Rose I am looking for. Warm-sweet amber with minimal mineral undetone. A hint of spicy from Ambre itself (spicy Safforn like) Rose centric in the middle. If there is mildly incense note this would be freaky amzing. 11/10 must buy.. ===== Update on February 26, 2024 Full wear experience As I use further, I doubt this scent a bit. It's wired because, this doesn't scream "Amber" for me. I full wear this a few time, and I notice the amount quality of Cedarwood note. I enjoy this personally but then there was certain Amber experience. But it is really dry amber experience. Their was a tone of smokiness / Birch tar quality. I think this is from certain aspect of Guaiac wood. What I doubt in scent, sort of unknow note in is the tingle accent in this one. It is sperate from the woodiness that lay down in here. I doubt it was Patchouli(?), but I am not so sure in this is very dry like dry leaf. I still enjoy the scent, I wish I can wear this a bit more often. This is the dry amber experience without much of Sweetness you can wear often. Score 9/10 Projection : Moderate Soft with Double spray Longevity : 6-7 hours Classification : Unisex, but sexier on a man Summary : Dry Amber with Rose Expereince ===== Ambre Nuit (Final review) Lite woody amber with beautiful rose. Open with spicy top before balmy amber build up. Balmy with underlying mineral ambergris (ambroxan), Cedre - Dry Patchouli. Only bad thing is the quality of balmy amber is dry down slight fast. It is transit to cadre and dry patchouli slight too soon (around 2-3 post wear). However, the dry down of scent still clean in woody manner, with soft rose ambient. I will keep this, it wear beautifully. I believe Ambre Nuit still carried on the similar note to previous Amber Nuit. Also, if there is Rose-Oud without "Amber Oud" note, this could be it. Top : Bergamot, Grapefruit Middle : Damask Rose, Pink Pepper Base : Ambregris, Cedre, Guaiac Wood & Patchouli 10/10 ===== (August 28, 2024) New wolrd amber fragrance Lite ambroxan amber with little support of Gaical and Ambrocenide, it is mineralic. Floral sweetness twine in this ambroxan amber. Later on clean powdery feel by woody material. Versitle fragrance with great well-round propose, leans more masculine in my opinion but depending on your skin chemistry. Not so outstanding from the crown but certain group of people with drawn to this profile, due to its warmth and generally supportive, positive and calm. Maybe, a nice smile must be included. 🙂 8/10 generally good one.

Ambre Nuit is one of the lightest of the Dior private line gourmands. Amber is the main ingredient, and is complemented with the same watery freshness Demachy uses in Gris Dior, so perhaps patchouli is a hidden note here. The result is an airy, powdery combination of honey, amber and rose and this is not my go-to scent profile, I find this very pleasing and inoffensive, and I can imagine many others sharing my opinion. Demachy's creations for Dior's private line are almost all perfectly unisex, and this is no exception. As this fragrance can be worn and appreciated by men and women, it becomes much more appealing. For someone who loves Grand Soir but struggles to find an occasion to wear it, Ambre Nuit is the perfect replacement, providing significantly better versatility and subtlety which even makes it valid for everyday use, at least in cooler climates. Take the word 'replacement' with a grain of salt however - I consider both fragrances as masterpieces worth owning, but this one lets me scratch that amber itch without being a complete attention grabber. As I mentioned before, this fragrance is subtle in scent profile, but also in projection. Longevity is satisfactory, lasting for at least 6-8 hours, albeit with a more intimate range - something that can be overlooked given the vibe it creates. Ambre Nuit would be the fragrance equivalent of 'stealth wealth', timeless and classy. This lacks the popularity it deserves, likely due to the fact that it's not surrounded by hype like newer, trendier releases, however, I think that is the essence of private line perfumery, and it makes discovering and falling for this fragrance all the more rewarding. Smell: 8.5/10 Performance: 6.5/10 Presentation: 8/10 Value: 5.5/10 Overall: 8/10

Opulent. Elegant. Classy. Fresh sensual rose on top of a warm sweet amber, smooth powdery musk, cedar wood and a hint of vanilla rolled into a wonderful concoction of class and sucess. A romantic, gentle and unique masterpiece that is extremely well blended for incredible smoothness and quality. Natural ingredients result in an aroma that smells natural and that is not synthetic or sharp. Great autumn fragrance that is good for date nights or special occasions as this is a really beautiful scent profile that is memorable. Romantic and seductive spring/autumn focused scent DNA that can still be worn all year round. Very well constructed fragrance that is the result of extremely clever, skill-full perfumery creating a simple yet addictive fragrance. Classic French perfumery with a modern twist. Ambery, rosy fragrance with a woody facet; sweet yet quite fresh. Performance is good but not amazing however it is enough and still enough for most days or nights out 8 hours on skin 12 hours on clothes 2ft projection Silage lingers in the air well without being annoying Projection of this fragrance is prominent but not too loud which makes it a more pleasant fragrance as it is gentle on your nose and does not cause fatigue and is not offensive; this makes it more elegant and smooth. If you want a unique, high quality masterpiece that is great for date nights and can be worn in most weather this is a great one to add to your collection. One of the best out there 9.5/10

I have been collecting Niche Frags for a few years now, and have about 70+. This Frag is my second designer fragrance from Dior, the other one being Dior Homme Parfum, which I adore equally as this frag. If the fact that this is my second designer frag out of my entire collection didn't suffice to say how awesome it is, then I don’t know what will :) The DNA from Dior Homme Perfume can be sensed here, more like a template for the line I'm guessing. This is such a versatile, unique and stunning fragrance in my books. I think I will be purchasing a 250ml bottle at one point as I can wear this anywhere, anytime, in whatever occasion, other opinions may vary. I have layered this with Creed's Tabarome Millésime to give this fragrance some lift, and it worked surprisingly well, considering how much of an imbecile I am at layering! I'm very chuffed with the fact that Dior has a line that sits in the designer realm, a gorgeously crafted people pleaser, yet can hold it's weight in the Niche world, and is very unique, to me anyway. I have already purchased Oud Rosewood on the back of this, but has not arrived yet, and I'm hoping that I'll love that the same way, and will encourage me to venture more into this wonderful Privee line FB worth, safe blind buy, an extremely versatile people pleaser, yet signature fragrance worthy, highly recommend this to any person, or any gender, and any age. It starts with a spicy note, akin to cardamon - dry and mature. Pepper is there as well, not too loud, adding to the oriental feel of the top. Rose stays hidden for a while, and only a hint of sugar-like sweetness suggests that there is a flower, waiting for the right time to open its petals and bloom. When she finally appears, she is mysterious and an unusual self, as if she is wearing a mask at Venetian Carnival daring you to guess her identity, flirting with your senses and playing hide and seek. This rose, opened by the spices, wrapped in the golden amber is a flower from a different universe altogether. She is neither too sweet nor too obvious, she is not of a common variety, and her name/type is an enigma. She is aristocratic, luxurious and unique. No other rose will feel the same. Amber is like a cloth of gold, with sunshine woven into it. It is smooth and flowing and a perfect partner for the rose. I can also feel the wood completing the composition, a perfect final accord for a fragrance that started with dry spices. The scent does not just "drop off", it is beautifully thought through and put together, like Doga's waltz from "My Sweet and Tender Beast" - an immortal love story in the days long gone by, revived in the brilliant creation of François Demachy

Don't pay attention to the two notes listed here. The note breakdown is still the same as the old formulation. Ambre Nuit opens with a trio of jammy rose, pink pepper, and grapefruit. There's a little bergamot there to prevent the grapefruit from turning too tart, but the opening is 90% all about a huge blast of pink pepper doing what it does best with its fresh, slightly sweet, and spicy scent profile. I don't smell an amber accord here like you'd smell in MFK Grand Soir or Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan. The dry down is all about ambergris, and a very natural smelling ambergris at that. It's got a waxy texture, it's slightly salty, and smoothens out the composition beautifully. I'm not sure if they used real ambergris or not, but I don't really care because it definitely has all of the scent and texture characteristics of real ambergris. Ambre Nuit is a very simple fragrance once it dries down, it's just rose and ambergris. But because of the quality of the ingredients and blend that is used here, the fragrance feels alive and breathing off your skin, culminating to what I believe is among my top 10 of best dry downs I have ever smelled in a fragrance. HUGE compliment getter, especially among those who appreciate the refined.

The opening is amazing! Spicey amber and yet so airy and dreamy vibes.. can’t describe it, it’s so simple yet so complex since they made amber smell more airy than even some freshies. The rose is prominent as well, but not annoying or to sweet or jammy. Drydown is exactly 40 knots by Xerjoff which made me doubt if I want it.. at the end I took it and no regrets. It does smell luxury and it’s definitely unisex. Both males could pull this off and for sure dress up or down, but in my opinion always dress up. If you have a bad day smell this and it will make you feel warm and home. So again dreamy cozy vibes! Just dream and chill or go out for an extraordinary date! The performance: longevity around 8-10 hours with 6 sprays but the Sillage is strange.. it goes and comes like a aura bubble.. not sure if this is the right description but it goes and comes.. specially on clothes or chest. Scent 9/10 Performance 7/10 Value 7/10 If you like this scent and want it bit more masculine take40 knots of Xerjoff the performance is also beastmode on that. But this smells more dreamy and the opening is to die for.. ambery peppery sweet airry thing... man can’t stop sniffing the open en mids..

Aaah yes! A perfect rosy amber. What a dream. I smiled when I first smelled this because it was exactly what I was looking for. A very lucky moment for any perfume enthusiast. I had a moment when I smelled this on a beautiful stranger passing by but didn’t have the time to ask for the name of the scent. They were already gone. This aroma left such an impact though. More than I realized at the time. The scent never left my mind. A few days later, while passing by a Dior Privee boutique I smelled again this familiar stunning warm and sensual scent wafting from inside the store. I was rushing and again didn’t have the time to ask for the scent. I came here at fragrantica and tried to find help with my description and people suggested Ambre Nuit. I went ahead and blind bought the smaller size. Heaven. I was in heaven. That was the scent I’ve been looking for. I smell warm smooth amber enveloping a single pink/beige rose. I feel hints of soothing benzoin, labdanum and perhaps the tiniest dust of clove, some fuzzy musk. Imo it’s unisex leaning feminine but it doesn’t matter. Would you like to feel like a beautiful creature, floating like a feather in the world? This is for you.

I skin-tested Ambre Nuit and Tobacolor in a Dior store last week in Germany. I had a hard time making up my mind; both magnificent fragrances. Where the drydown of Tobacolor went south for me (too much of a stale cigar bar scent the next day), Ambre Nuit went into ecstasy territory after 3 hours. This is not a cheap fragrance, so I opted for a small decant from an reputable online service before pulling the trigger on a full bottle. Now, I'm confused. After several wears, I still love this Ambre Nuit from the decant; but it's for sure different. Compared to the Dior store; this decant is more linear and has a strong dose of cinnamon & spice throughout not listed in the notes. Still a wonderfully muted rose on a bed of delectable, upscale amber. Is it possible this is a prior formulation? Assuming the Dior storefront is selling the most current product; specifically in the in-store testers. Is this something that would occur from maceration? All said, this is still a solid 9/10. I'm not convinced it's for me (40+ man living in Florida); perhaps I would rather smell it on a woman. I can't tell...and I hate that I can't make up my mind on treating myself to a bottle.

She’s unbothered, she’s sexy without trying. A deceptively simple ingredient list for such a beautiful and complex scent. Appears powdery from the bottle. On the skin it turns wonderfully warm and deep. I get few notes of rose from this, but a definitely tuberose. Amber also gets a little lost, she almost seems musky. If you love Coco Noir, you’ll love this. This is Coco Noir’s less ambitious, calm, less flirty older sister. She’s doesn’t go out of her way to show off, but she is still it and she knows it. She’s less obtrusive than CN, and won’t offend any noses. I want to shove this scent up my nostrils and breathe it in forever. As someone who chronically does not own any daytime/ summer scents, this is going to be my summer scent. She’s not too complex and dark to where she’s a night fragrance only, and though some of the snobbier, more traditional noses might turn up smelling this in the summer, I think she can be suitable on the right person. Fruity bright florals go absolutely nowhere on me, so if you’re someone that wears all black, all year, and hates the usual summer notes, this could be the year-round player for you!

I am halfway through my 200ml bottle of Ambre Nuit, and have spent a lot of time smelling like it. The original (pre 2018) Ambre Nuit page has more notes which I think are still relevant, specifically the pink pepper. To me this scent has always been pink pepper, turkish rose, and ambergris, wrapped in a cashmere backbone. There is no sweetness in this amber - it stands alone as dark gold and very warm. The pink pepper gives the amber an on-the-nose crackle, like a fireplace with no smoke, wood, or sweetness - just the sizzle of dark golden warmth. This is all contrasted against a very watery fresh clean airy rose. This is not a red rose, not sweet, and is not feminine in that sense at all. This back and forth between the clean airy rose and the slightly spicy deep golden amber creates an elegant clean feeling of golden shine. The note selection and blending are done extremely well. Saying this is an amber-rose fragrance can be misleading, because its not your typical amber and not your typical rose. Its tough to describe how inviting, exciting, yet elegant and sophisticated this scent is in cold weather. 9.6/10

Wow. This is truly a work of art. A perfect, true amber fragrance, with just a hint of rose to bring a floral sweetness to it. Unfortunately, at this price tag it would have to be a special occasion fragrance for me, yet it's also so classy and unobtrusive that it feels like it would be perfect as a signature scent (for me but also for any amber lover). To my nose, there are the classic amber notes of labdanum, benzoin, other resins (I think I smell some myrrh?), and musks, the latter of which the perfumer took in a glorious (but subtle) animalic direction. Vanilla and vanillin smell essentially non-existent here, which I vastly prefer for amber accords. There's also a very subtle and sophisticated slight powdery note, which sits on top of the amber accord and beneath the rose, marrying them all together into a single olfactory impression. It's just so classy and elegant. Truly unisex. Work-safe yet intimate and sensual. If money is not a concern for you and you're a lover of high quality amber, then this is for you.

An actual masterpiece. Such a beautiful scent. I’ve loved the profile since I smelt it. So soft and delicate and sensual. For clarity sake this is not an amber scent as you may think it is. Please do not think along the lines of grand soire. The base here is ambergris. Salty skin like. The stuff that comes out of whales. Whether it contains real ambergris or not we’ll never now. SA’s can’t be trusted. There are some out there that say TF Oud Wod contains real Oud. But the note is damn well executed. I was given miniatures with other prive purchases. But always held off from buying because I was weary of the longevity and silliage. Then I heard recently that Dior was about to shrink their bottle sizes. I decided to bite the bullet and get a 250ml bottle. 8 sprays and it got me a compliment from a stranger. this stuff does last and project. For people who appreciate the salty aspects of this I urge you try to Balmain’s Sel D’Ambre. That is a true marriage of amber the resin accord and ambergris.

When I imagine a fine fragrance, this is what I envision. A lovely, sparkly rose on a bed of warm ambers and tonka. Zinged with cinnamon and a touch of savory spice. It has a modern finish yet timeless appeal - as expected of a designer 'private' line. Both women and men will like this. Respectful sillage. It's a versatile scent, in which it can morph itself into the environment. Lounging? It'll smell cozy. Formal event? It'll smell sharp and prim. Dinner? It smells presentable and won't make the food less edible for you and others. For the most part, it's an upscale amber smell; appealing for most. It’s built in a way to project softly and is compatible on both skin and clothes. This is key because it doesn’t hurl and assault people’s noses around you like many cheap perfumes, but softly caresses them. As lovely as the scent and sillage is, this is too expensive. Would like it to project and last a litttttle more. All in all, well done, classic, elegant fragrance. 9.5/10

Dior sure does love it's Roses. And each rose-centric compositions' worth appreciating. This Demachy creation makes this rose so much more wearable by men that it was actually regarded and marketed/sold as a masculine in 2009 but fervently purchased by ladies nonetheless so much so that it's unisex now. It's a warm spicy rose. It's warmth and spiciness it gathers from its rich amber. Whilst under Demachy this house gave us some great roses : Santal Noir, La Colle Noire, Oud Ispahan. Kurkdjian if I remember likes his orange blossoms. It has a typical cologne like aftershave vibe to be perceived as a masculine but the rose and floral gives it the right femininity and it's this duality that keeps me admiring this brew. The only con is it's pricing. Get decants from trustworthy sellers if you can. I do wish fragrantica gave us a separate page for each brand where we can give our likes from each house and discuss one brand's perfumes overall.

The initial opening is a resinous Amber note with undertones of Rose. 15 Min - The Amber has taken a back seat to the Rose note who is making itself more prominent. 30 Min - The Rose note continued to move it's way forward in the scent profile and but it is not taking over and is quite soft. 60 Min - The sweetness from the Amber is starting to bounce back and making itself known. It has not taken over the scent profile, but definitely trying to push into the dominant note. Dry Down: The dry down of this fragrance is a resinous Amber scent (semi-sweet) with very light undertones of Rose. Performance: Projection of this fragrance is Good with the frangrance creating a scent bubble of about 2+ Feet for about 3 Hours. The sillage is also Good with a scent trail of about 3 feet for almost 3 hours. Longevity is Good with the fragrance lasting on my skin about 7 to 8 hours, but becoming a skin scent at about 3.5 hours.

Further to my glowing review below of this amazingly well-blended rose fragrance I must inform those who aren't able to afford the original that there is an astoundingly nailed-on clone by Fragrance World. There is no change of name; it is also Ambre Nuit. I have tested the Fragrance World version three times now against the Dior, and I can barely tell the difference. In fact, I forgot which arm I'd sprayed which Ambre Nuit - that is how good the dupe is. If you have the opportunity to try Ambre Nuit by Fragrance World please do. It is a mere $13 where I'm from, so naturally I bought myself four bottles of the stuff😊 They come in 100ml. bottles. I am confident you will find it to be of outstanding quality in terms of scent, presentation and performance. Longevity is at least 10 hours. For me, it is one of the most proficient clones I have ever come across. Stay blessed and happy always, my fragrance family🌹

This is is an absolutely beautiful amber-rose fragrance that became an instant favourite amongst Dior's Private line of fragrances after catching my first waft of this, the dry down only reinforces this, and I'm not exaggerating when I say this is one of the smoothest fragrance blends I've had the pleasure of trying, This fragrance is both sweet, warm, smooth elegant and inviting all at once, it's quite simple at its core but it's done in such an elegant way thats simply on another level. On my skin I get medium-loud projection for the first few hours, with it becoming a nice light scent later on, perfectly Unisex but in my humble opinion leans alightly masculine, but it's just wearable for both genders,good for all seasons in my opinion except for the very hot days of Summer. A Seriously impressive fragrance from Dior that's definitely worth a try. Final Verdict is a strong 9/10

This is an amazing combination of rose, amber and pink pepper. This is by far my favorite fragrance ever! If i had to keep one fragrance for the rest of my life this would hands down be Ambre Nuit. The fragrance is unisex, but i find it more suitable for a man. The scent feels light, sensual and intriguing. The longevity on my skin is 6-8 hours with moderate projection and sillage which i find perfect for this scent. If it was more powerfull i think it would lose its elegancy and classiness. What i really like about Ambre Nuit is that it does'nt scream for attention it is very classy and elegant. I find this perfect for spring and fall day time but also slightly cooler summer nights. All in all the scent is perfect for men and women that want to smell sophisticated, classy and elegant. Smell: 10/10 Performance: 9/10 Compliment factor: 8/10 Value for money: 9/10

The essence of this fragrance is beautiful. Amber and rose give this the most relax and welcoming vibe. This also can be extremely classy. Amber and rose are the only things listed on here, but I smell spiciness of pink pepper, and also ambergris (both of which are noted with the original). To my nose, this is a high-end clean fragrance. It lasts all day and on clothes even longer. It has this warmth that's so lovely, but so airy. The performance is great. It does not project far, but it projects for a long time. It lasts all day on skin, and on clothes, this will last a full day. Unfortunately, as much as I love this, I would prefer this on a lady. Otherwise, I believe that this is a classy scent for men. I cannot see myself wearing this casually. This is also an all season, any reason scent. I would just be light in the summer.

Xerjoff 40 knots is often compared to this and there is more than just a passing similarity. Biggest difference is in the opening where 40 knots has aquatic notes like salty briny sea spray. The drydowns are quite similar. 40 knots is a bit brash and bold whereas Dior Ambre Nuit is more refined and elegant. Rose is powdery and combined with the dry amber I get a spicy cinnamon note. Perhpas a faux wood note and a slightly cream base reminiscent of Dior iris but it is probably just the rose. It wears like a soft second skin or maybe like a soft rose petal. Quite elegant and serene. Doesn't have strong projection like 40 knots but again this is an exercise in restraint, subtly, and charm. It doesn't wear you down like 40 knots sometimes can with its brashness. Instead it is somewhat ephemeral but it actually just lingers softly.

The review section on this one is weird. Some people seem to think it has tobacco in it? Regardless, Ambre Nuit is classically French. What I mean by that is that it's light and airy, and that it's not meant to be sniffed on your wrist or arm, which will make it seem weak. Much like most of Dior's private collection, you need to smell this in the air. It's a very nice amber rose fragrance with some decent sillage. It hangs around in the air for a bit before dissipating, which, in classic French fashion, gives it an elegance that opposes the robust and heavy nature of an oriental. I'd recommend picking this one up if you like something sophisticated and enticing, yet casual at the same time. I wear this to work and to my university, and it holds up for a solid six to eight hours. 9/10.

This fragrance has captivated me hook line and sinker. I can't believe something with such a minimal note list can be so luxurious, elegant, refined, and classy. This is definitely a treat. There is a spicy rose but it's the ambergris with its languid, mellow depth that sets this fragrance apart. This fragrance bears a strong resemblance to Frederic Malle Portrait of A Lady, but is much more understated. I confess I like this better than POAL, which was among the top roses in my book. The amber must be constructed from very high quality ingredients indeed. Smells very natural and has the perfect "weight": I wouldn't call this airy, but it comes close. Hugely impressed with this, and looking forward to exploring more of Demachy's massive ouvre.

Opulent, sensual, refined, and unisex. The predominant note for me is warm, sweet, leathery amber. The amber is backed by an elegant blend of soft spices and crisp, classical rose, and there's a hint of ambergris-like saltiness. Texturally it's like the silky rasp of dry, woody powder, but at the same time it's almost creamy—like a combination of luxurious velvet and supple leather; a sensual murmur along ones olfactory palate. Like a night at the opera in a private box, amidst the wealthy patrons of a bygone era. A tableau in gem tones, brass fixtures, and low, golden light. The gleaming carriages of Model A's and Nash Tourings idling outside formal venues in the winter cold. The city bright and glittering with possibility.

One of my top fragrances from the Dior private line. Ambre Nuit shares similarities with Xerjoff's 40 Knots, however, it comes across as more subdued, elegant, and smooth, where the dry-down is heavenly. I find that 40 Knots is a fairly abrasive fragrance in comparison to AN, which if used incorrectly can cause headaches. On the other hand, AN has been carefully blended and crafted, a timeless scent, that can be worn most of the year as a signature. The only point of contention is the performance, thus I usually apply more than what I'd typically spray with other fragrances on myself. That being said, it's an incredible rose-amber scent that will get you noticed.

Ambre Nuit is pure sexiness and seduction!! 🖤🌹🖤 I wear it to bed as much as I wear it to special occasions. This puts me in a serene mood but it also makes me feel beautiful and confident. I love Ambre Nuit. It is a beauty in terms of composition the rose, of course but the warmer elements as well such as the Amber and other notes I cannot quite guess.... At the top though, Ambre Nuit is almost fizzy like a coca-cola (only for just a few seconds), and I absolutely love the rush that it gives me ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪ This is definitely unisex leaning neither feminine nor masculine and it smells so warm and comforting. It is a masterpiece and one of my favorites from Dior!

It came as a sample from Dior with my beloved Dior Homme Parfum (RIP 😔⚰️ 🪦). Ambre Nuit is sooooo classy, I mean it has that class and elegance that's a hallmark of Dior, and reminds me of DHP in its elegance! ✨✨ Ambre Nuit to me is a very formal sophisticated fragrance, that shines in social settings like weddings etc. It's so ambery and and the "Nuit" part of the name in my mind makes it shine like a star in the beautiful night sky 🌃 🌟 This is hands down the most classy amber fragrance out there! If Tom Ford's Noir de Noir is a luscious red rose then Ambre Nuit is an ethereal pink. This is sumptuous. Beautiful. Comforting. Incredibly well blended where the rose is creamy, almost reminds me of the feeling I get when I am indulging in a strawberry milkshake. This is one of those fragrances that you can use to layer other scents, with great effect. Of all the fragrances in Dior's Collection Privee, it is Ambre Nuit and Bois D'Argent that are (thus far) miles ahead of the rest. They're the only two worth purchasing the 250ml. bottles. Both perfectly unisex, and lasts at least 12 hours on skin. I am totally gaga over them💖

First; if you are looking for longevity, this is it. I have showered, put lotion on, and i can still smell the fragrance. And i had applied it about 12+ hours prior to my shower. I can see this being a unisex scent, however i think it leans slightly more masculine. It kinda reminds me vintage mens colognes, but not as strong and overpowering. For me, this isn’t an every day fragrance but i can DEFINITELY see myself using it for occasions like nights out drinking, karaoke in a bar, and nights at a jazz club. I personally don’t get much floral out of this, but that could be my nose. I still think it’s a great fragrance.

when they say grown and sexy scent, this is it. such a beautiful classic smelling scent without smelling old, which is a very important distinction. its like the perfect blend of floral and amber without feeling heavy. perfect for dates, weddings, formal meetings imo. maybe not shorts and a tee casual but very easy to wear casually. spring/fall seems optimal timing. not a beastmode scent so its perfect for the times you dont wanna run the risk of being offensive, but still wanna smell phenomanal. Really top tier scent. i like to layer with the fenty floral body butter or an unscented lubriderm lotion on warmer days

Bois d’argent absolutely deserves it’s hype. However, I’m so happy that the « populasse » aka common people, decided to set their sight on this one and leave to US, THE PERFUME GODS, the fabulous Ambre Nuit. Ambre nuit is warm, charismatic, sexy, alluring.. The person who wears Ambre nuit knows that He/She is HOT. The lasting power is incredible and this is definitely a complex fragrance, there is way more going on there than amber and rose. It evolves in so many different ways, it’s a carnival! I don’t know which kind of meat Francois Demachy ate the day He created this beauty but it was definitely a Fauve.

Got a sample of this a while ago and didn’t care for it too much. I was cleaning out my drawers when I found it and gave it another shot. I didn’t immediately love it either, but as I continued to use my sample I kept getting drawn to it. First time since revisiting it again it lasted all day, put it on in the morning and could smell it when I went to the gym later that night. It has a sophisticated scent profile, very classy and mature. I think it would be a great signature scent and something I’d be willing to get a full bottle of even despite the price being too high for my taste.

This is just incredibly beautiful.The rose is not heavy like in other fragrances,here it s just like you squished fresh pink rose petals in your hand then smelled them. It is also lightened up by some citrus and pepper while still having some darkness and depth,especially in the drydown, the ambergris note makes it lean slightly masculine. It’s hard to describe in words though how gorgeous this perfume actually is. Genius composition.Perfect for a golden autumn day or special occasions any time of the year.Warm, romantic, sensual but not sweet.

Wonderfully airy amber fragrance that can be worn almost across seasons. It does not go into the resinous or even sticky, but is rather dry-woody nature. I find it very difficult to describe what I like so much about this fragrance. Perhaps it is really quite simple: nothing is missing and nothing is disturbing but it beguiles with its softness and delicate warmth. The sillage is pleasant, never roaring, but still perceptible albeit at more intimate distances. Longevity to last throughout the day and greet you with its caressing presence.

This is oh so good! Warm ambery goodness with a woodsy dry down. On my skin, I don't get much rose at all; just a slight pinch of it. What I do get is lots of amber and woods; smells much more complex than the notes suggest. The dry down is spicy and takes on a masculine approach, which I actually love. Even my hubby complimented it and he usually doesn't pay attention to my perfume. LOL Very long lasting with moderate sillage in the dry down. Great for cooler temps but I think it might wear well in the summer too. An instant love for me!

On skin only amber and rose showed up like the pyramid stated. However, on clothing, I also get something rather spicy, and someone mentioned pink pepper and that might very well be it. I love this perfume. Its refreshing somehow. Not too bad a price if you consider that at about the same price of this 250ml you only get 50ml of Tom Ford’s special ones. I just noticed there are two Ambre Nuit listed, one under Privee and one under MCD Collection. How do we tell which is which? I’m assuming mine is the newer one which is this one.

Imagine Chanel Egoiste without tobacco and cinnamon, I always loved the opening of Egoiste but after an hour I smelled like a ashtray and this is not the case with Ambre Nuit, it has the opening of Egoiste and then takes a different direction, it never loses that light, seductive scent, it becomes a little sweeter on the drydown but the opening is riding along through the whole journey. I love it, perfectly blended. My top 3! Edit: Batch is from 2023 January, lasts +10h on me. I'm from Europe so my bottle arrived from Paris.

This is one of my favorite fall fragrances. It is not overly complex which i like, it basically smells of amber and rose but it's blended so perfectly. It smells spicy, sensual, dark and mysterious, it's everything you'd want from a cool-weather date night fragrance. This can be worn during the day but it especially shines at night. If Dior put out creations like these, they would easily be the number 1 fragrance house, but it's not the case unfortunately. But Ambre Nuit is niche level, it's a 10/10, perfection.

This is such a lovely fragrance! I’d classify it as unisex. It reminds me quite a bit of Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille but not as sticky or as sweet. The dry down has a bit more of a dry wood element to it. This is perfect for the cooler months! It’s a little spicy, dry woods, but warm and cozy. It’s a very safe purchase and very inoffensive. As a female I own and love this, but I’d absolutely adore a man wearing this. I’d say this leans more masculine than Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille since it’s not as sweet.

I bought this as a birthday present to myself. Out of all the Dior fragrances I smelled I kept gravitating back to this one. It’s just so sexy. It gives me a whole new level of confidence when I spray it on my skin. The only downfall was that when I wore this out to dinner by the end of the meal I couldn’t really smell it and by the end of the night there was a slight smell close to my skin. For the price point it’s not the best but since I will only be wearing this on special occasions I’m not mad!

This fragrance cannot be justified by its note breakdown. This is the best creation from Maison Christian Dior IMO. Such a beautiful scent that mesmerizes anyone smelling it. It deserves every superlative in the dictionary. This and Xerjoff Naxos remain the only scents I've ever fallen in love with at first sniff. I just can't stop smelling this stuff, and its even better when it lingers in the air. It's not a beastly perfomer as lets say Amouage Interlude, but neither was it designed to be. 10/10

This is a beautiful, clean, fresh and sweet unisex scent, in which I mainly smell rose and honey. It lasts all day on clothes. When you don't know what to spray, but you want to keep it classy, elegant and a bit elevated, this always does the trick. It smells simple and linear, but also luxurious. One of the best rose-centric scents I've tried and it's a bit unique as well because it's an airy and fresh rose rather than the sweet jammy rose that most fragrances seem to be going for. 9/10

A classic amber fragrance with floral nuances. Elegant, refined, warm, soft, sweet rose. Simple yet alluring. From everything I have tried from Dior Private line, Tobacolor and this are the stand out! It's not overly complex but hits all the right notes: warm, super likeable, smooth, well balanced and expensive smelling. Has that French touch... The only drawback is the fact that it is super expensive and not really intense or long lasting! But scent wise, gorgeous! Fall season bottled!

I'm 100% convinced that there is is labdanum in this. Really apparent in the base. I get a really strong amber, leathery smell that has a touch of rose surrounding it. Definitely a more grown up scent. Very sophisticated and up class but I do think that a fragrance like Moustache EDP by Rochas that cost 3 times less, performs better, is also a fragrance that is built around Amber & Rose and also has much more going on for it would be a better choice. Nonetheless, a solid 8.5/10.

The amber here is not the kind that comforts me and it is far too masculine on my skin to be pleasant. Don’t get me wrong, it’s such a beautiful fragrance...but it’s more meant for someone who can appreciate that amber note. It is so overwhelming. I’m not that person... It performs better in cold weather on my skin, giving an impression of fizziness. I don’t smell any rose notes at all in this and I would have loved to because it would add so much depth to this fragrance...

Ambre Nuit, A scent that made me appreciate the rose more. I never was a big floral guy, but recently I’ve smelled many fragrances that made me change my mind and this is one of them. It is a beautiful blend of rose and amber. Simplicity can be enough to smell good, and this fragrance is the evidence. The soft rose and amber that kind of seduces you to take that second whiff of the blotter is amazing. A classy, mature fragrance that welcomes you with a hug.

A masterpiece! And I do not say that lightly. The blend of warm amber and soft rose is stunning. I agree with everyone who says this is signature scent worthy. And it's not your typical floral scent. Out of the 7 fragrances for Dior's La Collection Privee that I own I would say this is the best! Lasts on my skin over 6 hrs and on clothes for days. However I do wish it projected better. Also great to layer with slightly fruity and soft floral scents.
