Grand Bal (2018)

Beautiful, elegant, lightly balsamic, mixed fruity floral. The jasmine and ylang are very rich here but also delicate with a crystal transparency, and the whole composition has an airy quality thanks to the hedione, which also gives a fresh, radiant warmth to this perfume. I sure wish I had the opportunity to try the original version of this scent before reformulation as I would have loved to have the opportunity to compare scents. The original sounds like it was more on the line of a vintage classic whereas this is very modern to me. While I think this is beautiful, I don't think I'll purchase a bottle after this 7.5ml is done. I think it is a little pricey for what it is, and all Dior has to offer is a ridiculous sized 8oz. I sure wish Dior gave smaller sized options for this line.

This is a beautiful perfume, it's a clean girl fragrance which might shock you but trust me. In my experience it comes off as a fresh and watery floral which is something I really enjoy it's not too intense. It smells like jasmine, ylang ylang and orange blossom with fresh dew drops or rain on the petals. It smells like a home in the Tunisian countryside that has the windows open with a fresh floral breeze into a freshly cleaned home, with linens drying in the yard. Or a fresh bath with an orange blossom water and jasmine diluted enough to be subtle but present.

Fresh, bright, slightly airy yet densely fragrant. Elegant, opulent. This scent transports me back to centuries past quadrilles in grand ballrooms. Jewel-adorned ladies, bosoms all but bursting from atop tightly cinched whalebone corsets beneath silk gowns, bulbous skirts swishing as they prance & twirl, proffering dainty white gloved hands to elegantly tuxedoed partners. From elaborate gardens visible through wide-open French doors, white blossoms & peach trees make their beauteous majesty known, boldly scenting the scene...

According to Dior's website this is their description which is different from the description here - Worshiped as the queens of flowers, these blooms reign majestically over these fragrances. Sweet jasmine, sensual rose, heady tuberose and many other emotions procure instant pleasure. So, my question is, was this reformulated yet again?

I finally got my hands on a small (125ml!) bottle of this beautiful, lovely, blessed gem of a fragrance. This is white flowers of magnificent quality blended beautifully. Reminiscent of the champagne you would drink at the ball, this is a dream come true for classy flower lovers. Longevity and silage are absolutely brilliant.

Beautiful and bright fruity-floral well-suited for the warmer months. Orange blossom, ylang, and jasmine are most obvious to my nose, with wafts of syrupy sweet peach. Solid sillage (no more than arms' length) and lasts about 6 hours on me. Great Dior offering.

Like this. Smells very similar to jasmine des anges but with less apricot and osthmanthus and touch more peach, but still very similar. If you like one, you’d like the other but I also see them as duplicative-don’t need both in the same collection.

One of the best wellworked jasmin scents Feminine,delicate and classy. Not a classic Heavy french perfume but rather soft and airy. The longevity on me is ok approx 4hs on my hair lasts 12hs +

I love this scent. Unfortunately, I heard about that production had been stopped by Dior. They recommend me Jasmins Des Anges by Dior instead of Grand Bal.

Sweet, bright, and extremely floral. It’s got the dense, blanketing creaminess one can expect from a fragrance that is white-floral dominant, but with the added brightness and body of the ylang-ylang, and just a tiny hint of stem-like greenness from the hedione. The peach brings a nectar-like dimension to it, while the musk keeps the whole composition just slightly airy and fresh, despite the heaviness of its floral core. It’s like a sunny day in mid June. It's a casual morning spent in the sunroom, sipping strong jasmine tea sweetened with a generous spoonful of peach-blossom honey. The windows of the sunroom are open and the garden is flourishing just outside. It’s the end of a warm spring and now the trees have burst into bloom so suddenly and heavily the blossoms are like clouds out in the yard, trembling slightly with the buzzing of young bees.

I get more jasmine than anything else, a very clean, uplifting, well-blended jasmine. Polar opposite from my Lust from Lush, which is a dirty jasmine of simple construction (which is not a criticism, for I love Lust's simplicity). This one was love at first sniff when I sprayed this on my wrist at the Dior counter. It's smells like jasmine tea infused with peach. I didn't want to be too impulsive and buy a full bottle, so instead I ordered a decant of this and Feve Delicieuse. Unfortunately, my husband HATED this, and he usually likes the fragrances I like. Oh well, longevity was abysmal compared with others from Maison Christian Dior, like my love La Colle Noire, so I suppose this is for the best!

This smells like a classic Chanel scent to me. At least on the opening with its jasmine/orange blossom (I can't always tell these two apart when they are in the same fragrance), ylang-ylang and peach notes that feel spacious and aldehydic (even though aldehydes are not listed as a note). It's an aptly named fragrance, evoking elegance and old-world grandeur. Something you would wear to a "Ball," not for a quick midnight run to the donut shop. (tested it in Spring 2019 so am assuming it's the 2018 version).

Opened with ylang ylang blended with jasmine. Soft and beautiful. Ylang ylang here is not overpowering like many other perfumes that have it in the lead. NOT a light airy perfume, but definitely not one that will have you gagging either. Light enough to be appreciated. The peachy follow up was wonderful. Edit. After 4 hrs, the skin sample’s almost gone. But for the clothing sample, even after 12 hrs, it was still around, though as skin scent.

I may be a little biased since this is one of the first perfumes I've ever sampled, but this is a fantastic scent. So elegant, feminine, and hence the name, grand. This is one of my favorite fragrances for both quality and sentimental reasons. I just wish it lasted longer. It's my go-to for most fancy events, but by the end of the night, you can hardly tell I was wearing it at all.

In my journey to find a jasmine dream scent I came across to Grand Bal. Not love at first spritz but after a few tests it became a fb worth. Quite soft but a perfect skinscent. Fresh, not too sweet, not in your face. I agree it is not so strong as other jasmine scents but sometimes this is all I need.

Strong orange blosom jasmine combo. A more floral version than Jasmin des Anges, which is a little bit more frutier. Had to try it for educational purposes, but I don't think I'll finish my 5 ml decant. Gave away also the des Anges 8 ml bottle. Nicely execute, just not my taste.

I blind purchased this one because of COVID you can test them at the boutique. Didn’t like it , paid over $200 and Dior doesn’t allow you to return the product to the boutique and they don’t offer a courtesy free return shipping label. So disappointing, try it before you buy it.

"Grand Bal" opens with a sparkling jasmine, orange blossom and bergamot. This trio creates an incredibly romantic, enchanting and luxurious note. It is almost addictive and one becomes obsessed with wanting to inhale it again and again. I would go "off piste" here and compare it with "Fleurs d'Oranger" by Serge Lutens. The latter's dry down is close to the "Grand Ball" opening, however, "Fleurs D'Oranger" are more animalic and unapologetically attention-grabbing, where is "Grand Ball" is more powdery and elegantly subdued, thanks to the delicate powderiness of ylang-ylang and musk. Peach note lingering in the background adds juice to the composition, making it extremely well balanced. Neither of the notes are competitive or clashing. The scent is incredibly smooth and flows like a great river (Amazon in my mind) with waters seemingly still and undisturbed. Projection is very good and sillage, while impressive, is not overpowering or punchy. "Grand Bal" is all about elegance, luxury and dignified self-assurance, and the name suits it perfectly. It would be most at home at the Russian Imperial balls of the XVIII and XIX centuries, floating among the exuberance and opulence of emeralds, rubies and diamonds, shining in the candle lights and courteous smiles of the aristocracy. Thanks to the visionary talent of François Demachy once can step into that world with a couple of sprays of this perfume.

Finally, I got a bottle of Grand Bal, which is discontinued. I can now clearly say the difference between them is that JDA has a vanilla and more sweet fruity nuance of a peach whereas Grand Bal has a green and fresh floral, more natural. JDA is way more of a sugar bomb (I really do not like nowadays' perfumes are too sweet.) compared to Grand Bal. However, It is sweeter than Gelsomino Nobile not overly though.

Un très beau jasmin. Idéal printemps été. Il fait penser à un j’adore haut de gamme. Très féminin. La longévité est trop faible pour ce prix je suis déçue.

Not a review, just a comment. Grand Bal was reformulated in 2018. The original was released in 2012, had many more notes, and was, imo, far superior.

Extremely peachy jasmine bomb. Must love jasmine. Must love peach. This is sweet, syrupy and strong. I absolutely see the similarity to J'adore.

As others have noted, longevity is nonexistent for this one. Smells nice, for 10 minutes. For the price however this performance is an outrage.

jasmine and ylang straight away, delicious strong floral. not worth the price for such a linear smell but is very nice.

New Grand Bal is very different from previous version. 2012 version is more floral and powerful.

Beautiful, classic, French. But longevity is abysmal on me.
