Miss Dior

Vintage Miss Dior EDT Cultivating style doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a process, and there is a learning curve. I was in my twenties when I understood the value of the perfect red lipstick. Years later, I learned how to choose dresses that highlight my tiny waist and hourglass figure. Later, I discovered that elegant, well made shoes make my legs appear lengthier and that I had to pay more for shoes that didn’t destroy my feet. In time, you learn what works and doesn’t work on your body type. You learn to accentuate some things and to hide others. You learn how to honor your limits and still take chances. Thankfully, geniuses like Christian Dior, Lucien Lelong, and Robert Piguet not only understood the feminine aesthetic, but perfected it, and they brought that same discernment to the world of fragrance. Although I had collected, worn, and adored vintage fragrances from contemporaries of Dior – Balenciaga, Schiaparelli, Chanel and Patou; and even though some of my true fragrance loves were made by those who trained Dior early in his career and helped him cultivate his iconic style, namely, Robert Piguet and Lucien Lelong, I hesitated to wear Dior. I thought I was not ready for a couture fragrance made by the creator of the New Look - the iconic and impeccable style, the impossibly tiny waists, and the billowy elegant skirts were over my head. One doesn’t simply wake up and decide to wear couture one day, it’s a process. There is a Taoist saying that when the student is ready, the teacher appears. I could not have worn this beautiful complex fragrance early in life, as I would not have appreciated it. I could not have worn this fragrance before I knew about the complexities and nuances in fragrance. I could not have worn this fragrance without first knowing myself; without knowing what works and doesn’t work on me. Now, I’ve paid my dues, I’ve done the work. I am finally ready. Luckily, I listened to those who are experienced in such things and took my time to search out a vintage bottle of Miss Dior EDT with the hounds tooth design. My only mistake was testing it out in the summer first. Silly me! This is not a sand and surf fragrance, this is fur coats and scented gloves. I *almost* sold it to a fellow Fragrantican, but luckily, I listened to my intuition, and waited to test it again in cooler weather, and the rest is history. I understand that Dior owned an art gallery prior to opening his couture fashion house, which tells me that he knows how to make women feel like pieces of beautiful art. I know I certainly feel that way in this fragrance. Thank you, Dior.

Miss Dior - 1950’s edt splash reviewed. Miss Dior was born shortly after WW2, in a moment of devastation, shortages and despair. While the world was slowly picking itself up, Christian Dior launched the famous New Look Collection in a move of joyous optimism, to allow women to feel beautiful, strong, desired and independent. Miss Dior was the perfect first fragrance, an accessory more easily obtained than the more expensive haute couture. A fragrance full of joy, freshness, joie de vivre. The original incarnation is a beautifully elegant floral chypre, redolent of galbanum, aldehydes, white flowers, oakmoss and hidden animalic notes that lend a gorgeous parfum fourrure feel. The opening absolutely sings. Overcast dove grey skies, but not melancholic. Early spring. Fizzy aldehydes, galbanum, styrallyl acetate for the Gardenia rendition. A young fresh feel for all women, all ages. The scent of optimism. The heart starts to get a little darker. Among the flowers, rose, good luck lily of The Valley, Iris, carnation...voluptuous and spicy, with the discreet powderiness of Iris, to cast a veil of sensual femininity. At once, it smells expensive, debutant but mature; while the flowers and green notes denote elegance and good taste, a perfect first perfume for a young lady, there are hidden secrets ahead, making it perfect for a woman that is fierce willed and strong. Leather, buttery sandalwood, civet, most likely ambergris, costus root, nitromusks...notes that don’t scream but instead envelop the fragrance in a bouquet of luxury and naughtiness; silk underwear under a perfectly tailored suit. The desire to be loved, longed for, without being vulgar. The warmth that emanates from the skin is glorious. Hard to pinpoint notes, it simply sings. A masterpiece. Under the guidance of Christian, Paul Vacher and Jean Carles created one of the most beautiful fragrances of the era, and one of the most memorable masterpieces of the last century. As if the green floralcy of Ma Griffe and the sexual potency of Tabu had a baby, Miss Dior had the pedigree of the house that saw her to life. Elegant, sensual, powerful. The original has a wonderful tenacity on skin, and a potent sillage that becomes more languid as the day progresses. Easily worn by men, Miss Dior is simply put, an ode to joy and love and life. Not to be confused with anything bearing the name today; Miss Dior remained integral up until the late 80’s/early 90’s. Ages well, if you find intact bottles on eBay, they are a good investment. What is currently sold by that name is nothing but a sad joke.

Miss Dior: a tale of two (or three) bottles -- My first Miss Dior bottle was a beautiful hounds-tooth frosted glass splash bottle I received as a gift in the 1990s, and it was my first expensive fragrance. I loved it and wore it till the last drop as my "good perfume" (not the every day one). My mother would occasionally borrow it too. The bottle got empty, my skin condition got worse and I mostly stopped wearing perfume. We kept the empty bottle. I gave my mother a mini with a similar bottle I found for sale. My second Miss Dior bottle was an old (judging by the lot number, 1981) travel splash bottle with the black and white cap and label that I found for sale online, with the beautiful juice I remembered. Leather, oakmoss, woods, resins and flowers, heady and yellow, strong, willful, almost powdery but not quite, elegant but sharp, difficult to describe to whoever did not experience it. I must remember to some day compare it to Dioressence, as while Miss Dior is more elegant, perhaps a little powdery in an older way, it shares Dioressence's soul of "I can take on the world". I decanted its juice into the first, prettier splash bottle, and kept the second one, open and mostly empty, in my woolen clothes drawer. My third Miss Dior bottle, I got it today. I saw it online, asked for pictures of the box and bottle, marked with the lot number, certified myself that the numbers match, that the bottle and cap and nozzle look as they should, that it is a real one. And it is. One of the later bottles, 2011, still marked "Miss Dior", so probably from the last batch just before the "Miss Dior Originale". It's a spray bottle, hounds-tooth frosted glass, tall bottle. I sprayed, carefully, expectant to see if it's the same. And it is, clearly. It's a little less sharp, the notes seem to have a different balance, a little more orris, a little less resin, and you have to apply a little more (which is easy with a spray bottle). But it's clearly the same fragrance. Still projects a lot, still lasts for hours on end (maybe 12 or 14 instead of 24, I think), still makes me feel myself, but standing taller, stronger. The splash bottle will be for slow, deliberate, sensual application, for myself, with time. The spray bottle will make it easier to choose to wear this perfume in the morning if I so decide, as it is more forgiving in a quick application. Miss Dior will go back into my perfume rotation even when I am going fast in the morning. I will sleep happy today.

I've been wearing Miss Dior on and off since 2002. I have half a bottle left that I purchased about then, and I have another half bottle of a much older vintage that belonged to the mother of a friend of mine. I've always thought MD was a glorious perfume, and despite the name, not at all limited to the young. My 2003 bottle is rich with aldehydes, it's spicy, balsamic, and powdery in turn. The older bottle I have is even more glorious, with full-bodied oakmoss, deeply powdery green aldehydes, lily of the valley, iris, and a leather undertone that's heady and almost intimidating. The dry down is breathtaking; it lasts all day. Just for the hell of it, I got a sample of the new Miss Dior the other day, because I enjoy comparing new and old vintages. This was one was an utter shock. If I had not seen the juice go in the bottle, I would assume a mistake had been made, because the new MD is totally unrecognizable. In a blind test, I would never have been able to make the connection. All I smelled was greenish gardenia, and jellybean sweetness. It was so awful I couldn't leave it alone, the way you can't stop eating "just one more bite!" of something ghastly. I had the old on my right wrist and the new on my left, and when I woke up this morning I discovered that traces of each lingered on the cuffs of my sweatshirt. On the morning after I could finally smell a suggestion of kinship. Not a pleasant one. My right side smelled like the morning after a party, and my left smelled like the morning after a fire in a shanty town. I mean that surprisingly literally: I could smell something like the cold bowl of a burned out pipe. But hey: intimations of leftover leather in both, and at a very big stretch, I could imagine leather from the same tanner. If I were being generous. If you want to wear Miss Dior, for God's sake, find it one ebay. I will go back when I have some time and get another tester of the new stuff, just in case this juice had turned, but holy cats. If this is really what the House of Dior is doing with its time and resources today, we should all lose their phone number as quickly as possible.

I worked at the Christian Dior counter as a manager for almost three years between 2008-2011. I have a bottle of Miss Dior Esprit De Parfum that has a batch code from 2007. It was a tester bottle,which we had been sent in to demonstrate Miss Dior EDT before it's 2011 reform. I would often acquire testers as incentives for making targets ect. I don't see any page to review this version, which is a shame because it single handedly sparked my intense passion for complex vintage mossy scents. This fragrance is a full bodied mossy green floral that starts off with a burst of lemony glabanam. Then softens (after at least 3 hours) in to an alurring white floral jasmine, lily of the valley and rose. Ending with a fully loaded base rich with oakmoss, veitiver and patchouli. I wore this fragrance to see my grandfather in the hospital before he passed away in 2010. The staff were none to pleased by my choice of such a forceful scent. ( I wore Tuscany Per Donna by Estée Lauder to my Grandmother's death bed four years later and no one was offended, lesson learned). I also experimented with ketamine in order to totally and full experienced this complex jem, as some of you might know it really heightens your olfactory senses. It was quite the trip twisting and turning as each layer unfolded. It was like walking through a bright sunny green feild into a deep mossy forest but at the tree line is a bed of lush flowers you have to meander through. I don't think you can buy this formulation, I'm not sure you ever could in Canada where I live. So I do feel blessed to own my little bottle. I wear it in very early spring when the snow is mealting and the first green grass is poking out. It will linger with you on your coats and scarves for the rest of the season, so for me in really embodies early spring ( feb-early April). OMG...I get it I get it I get it. This is wonderful. I just scored a vintage Miss Dior EDT and it is soooo divine. I cannot stop sniffing myself. At first, just smelling it from the bottle, I was afraid it was going to be too stuffy. But this is just so familiar and warm and just a touch powdery but ever so sophisticated. It really is such a shame that the mass market can't appreciate these smells anymore. I read an article yesterday about IFRA and the current limitations on oakmoss (etc.) and how perfumers sometimes just abandon trying to get reformulations "just right" because tastes keep changing and it's not "worth it" for them to try to replicate exactly (or just end production altogether...the horror!). However, I must say, the whole same name/different perfume phenomena of the Miss Dior lineage is head-scratching and more than a little bit irritating. They really should be more specific/transparent with what formula is what (and give it a different name!!). But based on this one, I seriously want to own them all now! Even the current Miss Dior EDP, which I smelled at Ulta over the holidays and thought smelled just like Guerlain's L'Instant. I'm not thrilled about the Blooming flankers, etc, but they may be okay for the warmer months. I think my next purchase will be the current Miss Dior Le Parfum. I've got a vintage Miss Dior Cherie (2005) on the way (eeeek!!). I always thought Chanel was my holy grail fragrance brand (and hats off to Mugler for innovation and not being afraid to be polarizing...shout out to Angel Muse and gotta get the new EDT soon...my poor pocketbook!), but based on the sheer number of Christian Dior perfumes that I own and absolutely love, I think I need to give credit where credit is due. Oh, and this vintage Miss Dior EDT reminds me a bit of Revlon's Cerissa, which I own. I'm going to do a side by side comparison soon!

Toilette vintage. Although one can enjoy Miss Dior for what it is a gorgeous classical chypre with a unique green freshness, I find that understanding its context heightens my appreciation for its heartbreaking beauty. Born in 1947, the fragrance carries connotations of the hunger for glamour, the austerity of war and the hopes for future. ...The birth of Miss Dior coincides with Christian Dior’s first fashion show held in a salon on the avenue Montaigne in Paris on February 12th, 1947. In a rebellious move against the austerity imposed by the cloth rations and the angular lines of wartime fashions.The fragrance was created by Paul Vacher based on a formula composed by Jean Carles (who also composed Carven Ma Griffe, Dana Tabu and Myrurgia Maja.) Michael Edwards’s French Perfume Legends tells that Dior was fascinated by the roughhewn appeal of Chypre de Coty (1917) and the vivid verdancy of Balmain’s Vent Vert (1947). These two accords are fused in Miss Dior, their contrasting elements harmonized by the opulent floral heart. Miss Dior does not reveal her charms upon the first encounter, requiring a longer and patient acquaintance, especially for those who are used to the eager-to-please modern fragrances. The green pepper sharpness of galbanum is underpinned by a classical gardenia note, which is bright, dry and intriguingly metallic. These effervescent notes slowly melt into the floral heart of Miss Dior, and yet the animalic darkness is never far behind. Soon the chypre base that supports the refinement of floral notes takes center stage. The composition becomes veiled in duskiness, which is punctuated by the gilded warmth of patchouli. The woman who wears Miss Dior projects the most exquisite elegance paired with confidence and resolve of character a truly alluring combination.

Reviews here should be posted for the original Miss Dior (launched 1947) and not the current Miss Dior which is a totally different fume and fronted by Natalie Portman. Do read up on the huge mess Christian Dior has created surrounding this classic -- the Miss Dior/Miss Dior Cherie controversy. Basically they mucked around with this grand dame's reputation. To make matters more confusing, Miss Dior is now officially 'Miss Dior Originale' since 2011, a shame-faced attempt at keeping this flagging fragrance alive after usurping its name proper. And the post-2011 iteration has its own Fragrantica listing so please put your reviews in their proper places :))) That said, I haven't had the modern formulation so Comparisons are welcomed! I've a 90s bottle of edt in the low squat frosted houndstooth flacon with stopper. This is the only vintage classic that has ever floored me (I inherited a sizeable collection from my Mother). A true masterpiece of vintage French perfumery in the aldehydic chypre tradition. I know it's cliche to say this, but... they really Really REALLY don't make perfumes like that anymore. This is the most beautiful leathery oakmoss cum galbanum I've ever encountered in any perfume. The leather is so rich and deep, it segues into... an almost chocolatey accord. It's a well-worn dark brown leather, of the softest, highest quality. Like cashmere. I have 70s vintage Shalimar and I can tell you, Shalimar's leather is no match for Miss Dior. And Shalimar, as you well know, sets a very high benchmark for vintage leathers. With majority of vintage collectors hunting down the ever diminishing Guerlains and Chanels of this world, I'm happy to quietly snag vintage bottles of CD's Miss Dior at very reasonable prices. For now at least.

Miss Dior...when I smell this wonderful concoction or when I think about it I become immediately melancholic. I am young and I don’t know unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?!) how Miss Dior and other masterpieces of perfumery used to smell when they were created and that is why I feel that nostalgy of not being able to travel back in time and discover some great creations. Like the “High hopes” song of the band “Pink Floyd” says,” the grass was greener, the light was brighter, the taste was sweeter...”, this is the way we think about old fragrances as well and about the way they used to smell back then when every perfumer was using natural ingredients. Miss Dior like other old chypres has a special place in my heart and will ever have. The harsh top notes of the fragrance have the power to make young people to stay away from Miss Dior. But a bit of patience can bring a lot of surprises. Miss Dior is like a mature woman who still is a Miss because no man had the patience to discover how great and sensitive in fact she is and how much she has to offer. At the beginning it smells very green and aldehydic and chypresque in the same time. After that, it settles down into a very warm and sensual leather chypre. Maybe I’m wrong, but I would rather say that Miss Dior is a chypre leather fragrance than a floral one. The sillage is good, rather soft than harsh as in other chypres I know and the longevity is very good. The bottle, is the symbol of good taste and refinement. One of the most elegant bottles ever created. Miss Dior has the ability to make for me warmer the Scandinavian winters and to transpose me in another world where people is still romantic and where love and kindness count more than formal stuff and images.

This was my signature scent in my late teens, in the late 80s, and I smile to think of that now. No one now would think that the 'miss' of the name meant that young women would wear it, but that's what I did then and I loved it. It is something of a bluestocking scent, and I'm happy with that reflection on my character, even as a young woman. I remember trying it on in a shop (probably Jenners in Edinburgh) and being lost in the complexity of it, and knowing that was what I needed to smell like. Sweeter perfumes were coming on the market, such as YSL Baby Doll, but I daresay now if I smelled that it wouldn't seem like the sticky sweet thing I thought of it then, it's probably rather tart. So I finished my bottle of Miss Dior, and moved on to other scents, including Mitsouko (because I obviously was drawn to chypres), and then recently I treated myself to a vintage bottle of Miss Dior, in excellent condition, and in the bottle that I had in the 80s, which is taller and oblong with ribs and a pale grey cap, for nostalgia reasons. I looked it up recently and going by the lack of bar code and original address of Dior I think it is from about 1987, which would be the exact right date for when I was wearing it. I'm so pleased! It's still wonderful, complex, raspy, sagacious. And I see from the notes listing here that I can now trace some of my favourite notes now - clary sage, gardenia, iris and narcissus. It's a lovely piece of my olfactive history to enjoy again.

Ahh, Miss Dior... New in 1940s... The norm in 1950s. Hip in 1960s... Elegant in 70s. Rich in 1980s... Granny in 1990s. Edgy in 2000s... Vintage in 2010s. and a total time capsule in 2020s, VIP museum material which should be under protection I guess... Smelling this I am depressed. I question my whole existence indeed. Who knew perfume would be a spiritual catalyst! When I was a child in 90s, in this life at least, a friend of my mum's was living in a very old house (circa 1960s) in the middle of sun-dried meadows; in a war-torn land where the future prospects could as well be bright or promising, people still took their strength by maintaining their ties with the past, and that which smelt exactly like Miss Dior, because when cyhpre is the case, the French named it after La Chypre the island already... Whatever that future brought, I am not sure... Memories of the old house, and the meadows and everything coming alive like a hologram, the stark contrast between how things were and how they are now makes me feel old first hand, and I can't quite describe where in my life this scent would fall into, or what expectation it would serve, other than the feeling of touring a museum filled with incredible but no more relevant many things... I am not sure if I am a "Very Good Girl", guess I've never been, I am just looking for the fine line, an olfactory experience between a well-lived but sadly depressed woman and a pastless one... This perfume is performance art.

Miss Dior is spectacular, it's magical, it's timeless....it is absolute fragrance perfection. (If you like it that is, lol). But for me, it is the epitome of all that I love about fragrance. It is THE top of the fragrance chain in my opinion. There is something about it that feels so well thought out, so perfected, and it doesn't even matter what vintage form you get it in. You could choose one blind folded and it's gonna be good. I have multiple forms from different time periods and I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite. I have EDT, EDP, cologne and extrait. Most of my Miss Dior is vintage but I also have Originale EDT which is very well done and smells like "Miss Dior" and I also have the Originale extrait, which is possibly the best current powdery green chypre on earth and it doesn't even have oakmoss. It smells vintage and like true Miss Dior only astonishingly potent. I have the vintage parfum also and I'm telling you, the new extrait is phenomenal. That said, there is something about the vintage cologne that is truly special. There is a softness to it yet a touch of masculinity and the fighting yin and yang of the two leaves me nearly speechless with delight. I hate to go on and on and hype this like it's the perfume version of the Hope Diamond but it sort of is. If you like old school style, if you like powder, if you like chypre, if you like PERFUME period and haven't tried this yet it is almost an abomination.

I've recently acquired a 5pc travel set of Dior perfume miniatures that appear to be from 2004. Miss Dior captured my attention the most of the five. Although I've read about how the original Miss Dior is nothing like the rebranded version of recent years, I did not realise how different it would be and how much I would like it because I really don't care much for the current Miss Dior releases. Encased in a tiny houndstooth motif crystal bottle, I could see a substantial amount of the old perfume had leaked or evaporated away (or both) and it made me really sad because it was my favourite of the five but also had the smallest volume of the five. I went back to the store from which I'd gotten the set to look for some other discontinued classics and it turned out that the owner had a couple of 100ml bottles for sale - I got one immediately. Although the big bottle that I have now was part of a later production (batch code from 2002) rather than a pre-2000s vintage, this 20yo lady is adequately mossy, herbaceous, and full of character. Thinking about the story behind the concoction of Miss Dior, the olfactory profile of the original makes so much more sense than the modern, pink formulation. She's hard, dry, and imposing, but also beautiful, tenacious and quite awe-inspiring - none of which I'd use as adjectives for the modern day Miss Dior(s). Absolutely unforgettable!

I recently purchased a vintage houndstooth bottle of this, and it is rapidly becoming a favorite. I was hesitant, because I find the new version headache inducing, but I am a leather fan, and this one is a classic. I mostly smell spices and leather when I wear this, which is nice, because leather does very well with my chemistry. It is not as strong here as in Cabochard Gres, or Robert Piguet's Bandit, but it's noticeable. It is definitely a cleaner leather, and more comparable to Gres, although Gres is drier and more flowery. Miss Dior isn't at all flowery or sweet, but I think it's the most feminine of the three (not that any of them could be considered flowery or sweet!). It is incredibly long lasting on me. When I apply it in the morning, I can still smell it on my skin 16 hours later as I am getting ready for bed. The sillage is nice, maybe perfect. I feel like people can smell it on me, but not as though I am scent bombing the room. This is definitely a cool weather scent; I made the mistake of wearing it on a warm autumn day, and it was a bit overwhelming. I love vintage perfumes, and while some of them can smell dated, I don't think this one does at all. It is warm and cozy, maybe a bit sexy. I find it very well blended, in that none of the notes really stand out. I think this has the potential to become a signature scent on me, if I can keep myself supplied.

What can we say about the one of the most classic ,classy , and beautiful perfumes ever . This perfume along with je reviens by worth and mitsouko by guerlain were the scents that I remember from my childhood and maybe was the inspiration for me to be involved with perfumes and eventually to create my own perfumes . I remember myself been soaked with miss Dior my mother's favorite when I was a little girl and my mother was furious with me because I was consuming the valuable juice maybe that's when my love with chypre's began the bitterness and the mystery and the class they create . Today unfortunately miss Dior is a shadow of her self whoever has the opportunity to smell the vintage can have an idea of what I' m talking about . This is not about oakmoss restrictions this is about trying to sell to reformulate a perfume to make it more appealing to a more modern and younger audience . But miss Dior isn't a modern perfume it's a classic and classy scent . Is a perfume that you love or hate . I personally love miss Dior even now that she's thinned she has something of her old glory and everyone has the obligation at least once to spritz a small amount of that juice to their wrists and to appreciate or disapprove the result . And a small advice to the big companies : some things you have to leave them as they are and never interfiere with them . It's a sacrilege .

One of my favourite chypres although we met each other two years ago. I don't know what the first edition was like but the one I own (2005 EdT) is the one I fall in love with at first sniff. Today I had the chance to find an older bottle from the first years of '90s. It's a different experience. I'm not so good at detecting notes but I can say that if the newer version starts with aldehydes and citrus, the older one opens up with a stubborn galbanum that refuses to be blended with oakmoss and the rest wonderful ingredients sooner than five minutes. This version is also crispy and somewhat dry while the newer one is more powdery. But the real experience with the '90s version comes 7-8 minutes later; This girl it is not what you expect to be. She is pretty, rich, well-educated and very stylish but she's also spoilt, hot-tempered and tends to have secrets about her personal life and fantasies in her -not so pink- dreams. I don't know which note creates this dirty effect but I find it really fascinating. I could easily relate this older Miss Dior to Blair Waldorf from Gossip girl. I don't know if the even older versions are also so dirty or more, but if they are, I'll keep an eye out for a small amount.

I don't know why, but I just love this scent so much!!! I found a small bottle of it in my grandmother's perfume collection which she gave to me, and although I hated it at first, it really grew on me. Warning, this is not a scent that everybody will like. My mom absolutely hates it ahahaha, and I don't think I'll ever wear it outside for fear of being judged (I'm quite young, and I don't feel that this scent "suits me...")... BUT I love wearing it to sleep.. I feel so luxurious and sophisticated but it also comforts me a great deal. You really have to give it a while, as it fades down to a beautifully soft, warm, lovely scent that I can't stop sniffing at!!! I'm not very good at the whole scent description, but the image that forms in my mind when I smell this it reminds me of the movie Carol, directed by Todd Haynes (watch and you'll know exactlyy what I mean ;)) The smell isn't really much of a crowd pleaser, and it isn't like any of the "popular fragrances" nowadays, however, I'm sure there'll be people like me who will fall absolutely in love with it!!!

Compared to the more recent perfumes that I enjoy, it puzzles me why I enjoy this so much. I definitely think nostalgia plays a part, but it's not only that. This is a really beautiful olfactory experience. Like a green, elegant breath linking me to the past. My mother always had a bottle of Miss Dior in her dressing table, along with Madame Rochas, Chanel No 19, and Tweed. It was the understated sophistication that always appealed to me. It reminds me of my mother's style (of which I have none). She always wore a petticoat under her skirt or dress, her shoes, bag and gloves always matched. Plus she never left the house without a couple of lace handkerchiefs in her handbag. Miss Dior is sums up that age when there were rules as to what a "lady" should or shouldn't wear. I'm not naive enough to think it was a better time, honestly I'm glad that we don't have to conform to a societal stereotypes anymore. Although, sometimes it is enjoyable to wear Miss Dior and remember the elegance of yesteryear, even if it is through rose-tinted spectacles.

Miss Dior was the very first perfume I smelled as a little girl and technically, to me Miss Dior = my mom. She would put in on on special occasions only but the powdery greenish beauty would remain on her hair and cardigans until she washed it off. My own first perfume was Poison Tendre and I suspect I unconsciously picked it up due to the galbanum note that somehow reminded me of Miss Dior. After TP got discontinued I went for No19 first, then switched to Cristalle and got back to No19 again. I love them both but I've never really felt sexy wearing them. Two years ago, after almost thirty years of Miss Dior being exclusively mom's perfume, I put in on and fell in love. The initial bitterness fades away quickly, being replaced by the most delicious soft leather note covered by a greenish mossy lace. The scent gets better and better through the day, leaving a trace of velvety luxurious powder and fresh lemon on my skin by the time I'm leavin my office. Sexy,clean, feminine and always appropriate. I hope this gem will never be discontinued.

I recently bought a 10ml bottle of the original EDT and I'm certain it's pre 1989 as it absolutely brings back memories of my mum wearing this in the 60's and 70's. It's so wonderfully, quintessentially ladylike. Balanced, abstract, somehow there's a balance between reserved and warm, mysterious and classy. The origin story of Miss Dior is heart-wrenchingly beautiful. I do believe this original perfume is truly a reflecton of Dior's deep love and regard for his incredibly brave sister, Catherine Dior. When I watched the recent TV series comparing his approach with that of Chanel (The New Look) I really wanted them to dwell more on the creation of perfumes, alas, it was just a detail, though it was an excellent series and I highly recomemmned it! My mum's going to be 82 this month, so this little bottle of vintage Miss Dior is for her. It has all its original old school charm. We could really do with more classy perfumes like this - not old-school neccessarily, but just well-made!

Miss Dior is anything but polite. In her best formulations she is a 'sharp as a card shark turned killer' perfume, throwing punches like an against the wall gangster in a Golden Age Ballgown by Head, photographed by Horst. She is the collision of glamour and catastrophe. A few smacks across the face by a green oakmoss hand in an aldehyde dry-cleaned leather glove goes by way of introduction. If she then feigns to mellow into iris and rose and hints at sandalwood softness in her heart, beware. Beware, for this is another of her Oscar-wining transformations, soon enough dirty patchouli, salty amber and wild grass will be back to give you a friction burn of a dry, dry down. Despite her femme nomenclature. This early doors Bonnie Parker is butch enough to be sure. A woman should wear it if only she's as happy wearing a holster. And a guy, well he just as to be good with it. Hell, if anyone calls him, she's been in enough Western's: Miss Dior will be by his side for the shoot out.

I have a 1950s/60s Houndstooth bottle and I have to say this is one of the best chypre fragrances I’ve ever come across. It opens bright and effervescent with a heavy dose of aldehydes and a touch of bergamot, with powerful galbanum and sage to add green undertones. Soon after this, a heady marriage of countless powdery florals takes charge - namely narcissus, orris and carnation. Once this dries down you’re left with an explosion of natural oakmoss, some of the best I’ve ever smelled. Alongside this, the base is comprised of a leathery labdanum and earthy patchouli, all while the powdery florals, galbanum and aldehydes persist. This is a must have fragrance for any chypre lover, a world away from the overly sweet and synthetic mess that Miss Dior is today. The quality and pure talent that’s present in this classic scent is breathtaking; one of the best iterations of oakmoss I’ve ever come across.

recently bought a 10ml miniature bottle of this, unopened in it’s original packaging. although im not entirely sure, i suspect this bottle i have to be from the 60s/70s. first off, the design... is fucking gorgeous. minimalist yet classy black & white houndstooth with thin gold lettering. i just love it. 1000x nicer than today’s miss dior appearance imo. as for the fragrance, it is wonderful. a rich, smooth, timelessly enchanting elexir. so elegant and feminine. it doesn’t develop much throughout wear from opening-fade. it’s just such a solid, attractive fragrance. very little sweetness, but such warmth and deep leathery florals. great projection and longevity too. veryyyy curious to smell the modern formulation in comparison to this.. i already know it won’t be half as nice.

So this is my first ever expensive perfume. I bought it today, after my mother insisted that now I am a young woman (19), I should have a signature fragrance. I did extensive research on here and I was quite sure I would walk away with a Chole perfume. I tested two and even waited an hour. When I went back to the shop, I noticed a lonely bottle of Miss Dior Original on the shelf. I tested, I waited and I fell in love. To me this smells like autumn. Green velvet. Damp woods. A forest witch. I my mind this is something I can see Stevie Nicks wearing. Maybe it's the patchouli? I was concerned that this was perhaps a little "old lady"-ish (something I have never minded, but other's will have opinions) however the more I smell it, the more I think it is just charmingly vintage.

I bought a vintage bottle of this on ebay and I am glad I did. I own the new formulation and was curious about its origins. At first I did not like this scent. It was too old fashion but I tried it the next day and discovered what others have known for almost 70 years. I don't understand how the noses behind the reformulation got so far off. Why did they try to fix something that was not broken. On me, the original MD starts out fizzy like a refreshing soda on a hot day, then it dies down to a powdery delight that I cannot get enough of. In order for a perfume to make it to being sprayed on my night gown it has to be one that I want to dream about and this is my #1 pick for a night of slumber and adult fun.

I got a vintage miniature Espirit de Parfum from 90's (I think). I dabbed a bit on my wrist and was greeted by a hefty dose of aldehydes and gardenia (which was a loud and sharp mix). "Old lady's perfume" immediately came to mind and I ended up listing it on eBay. Five minutes later loud opening evaporated leaving very delicate scent of narcissus, sage and oakmoss. Yes, it still smells vitage but very clean, fresh and unique. I haven't come across prominent narcissus note before which IMO very hard to capture due to subtle nature of the scent. It evoked memories of my childhood enjoying narcissus blooms in late spring in my grandma's garden. Please excuse me while I go and cancel my listing :)

Oh Miss Dior...what wonderful memories I have of you from the 1970's! It was 1976 and I had just graduated high school, summer of the US Bicentennial and my family hosted an exchange student from France who came and lived with us for 10 weeks. He brought me a bottle of Miss Dior in the black & white hounds tooth bottle......I fell in love with everything about it. 35 yrs later I'm sampling Miss Dior at Macy's and it is NOTHING like the old formula. Where's the oakmoss and earthiness? I LOVE LOVE LOVE the older version and bought several older bottles online. It's a beautiful and classic scent. And this was my introduction into being a "Dior" girl when it comes to fragrances.

I turned aside from new Miss Dior with nosethrob and a slight headache, but got a vintage bottle in a job lot, and my word! Excellent stuff! I've been wearing the vintage green and chypre scents lately and this is another superb example. I wonder how many millions of people had their pleasure ruined by EC regulations for the sake of a vague notion of risk from the original ingredients? The vintage Miss Dior is dry, deep and classy. It's so well made. A hint of powder, a hint of praline, floral without being flowery, another lost masterpiece. A compulsive wrist-sniffer. It lasts all day. Very few modern scents can make me feel so appreciative, so satisfied. 10/10

I'm testing my recent buy of a 90s vintage EDT. oh dear... This is so wonderful. *tear* I remember a bottle of the cologne version on my mom's vanity when I was a child. I personally find classic chypres and aldehydes deeply cozy and relaxing, and this is no different. Surprisingly cuddly and demure considering the initial blast. I don't know how you could resist getting out your softest mink grey angora sweater and cuddling with your love or reading a book by the fire. There is something a little carefree and even outdoors-y about this one, compared to scents like No 19 (a bit more starched white shirts) or Rive Gauche (a bit more urban). Absolute love!

Oh so beautiful. Miss Dior vintage EDT smells like honey and fresh-cut grass. Feminine, fresh, bright, calm, sweet, and green. I get a lot of oakmoss and galbanum (my bottle is 1960s, so you know this is the real stuff) that surprisingly, are yummy even though they're hardly ever my favorite notes. It's looking like Miss Dior will win me over to oakmoss. There is an earthy sweetness from the galbanum, vetiver, and patchouli as well as a powdery veil from the iris. Super long-lasting and strong. My bottle is missing the atomizer top but I only need a dab anyway. Miss Dior layers well with patchouli and bright floral scents.

I just found a bottle of Miss Dior Eau de Cologne (vintage) in my parents' house. I don’t know whose perfume it was or when it’s from. Maybe it was my grandmother’s who didn’t really wear perfumes... The cap is gold and the package is with the B/W houndstooth pattern. It smells really good, it’s fresh, green and “vintage”. Reminds me a bit of Aromatics Elixir, but I like this one better. I love how elegant, classy and aromatic it is. It smells like a wealthy woman on the Riviera or in a fine restaurant. I keep smelling my arm, but unfortunately the staying power is not so strong. I'm definitely going to wear this!

I'm usually a lover of the romantic flowery scents — violets, roses, heliotrope and so on. However there's something in the original Miss Dior I just can't get enough of. It's such a classy, heavenly fragrance... It's powdery and a bit soapy yet spicy and makes you feel elegant whilst being surrounded by a soft cloud of aldehydes. I can see why some people would say it's mature, but I've been OBSESSED with this one since I was 17. I'm not 26 years old and I would rock it anyday. To me it's pretty much ageless, and I would go as far as to say its softness makes it very much a lovely fragrance for the youth.

I am not a Dior collector but the bottle I have is I believe from the 80s, heavy and tall with a ribbed body and continuous spray nozzle. There is a stamped five character code on the bottom. I've always dismissed Miss Dior because I'd only tried recent formulas. I really couldn't see what all the fuss was about until I sprayed this beauty. It's powdery, sweet and mossy all at the same time. I don't know that it suits me exactly but even so I'm bowled over by the complexity of this vintage classic. It brings me straight back to the types of fragrances that I remember as a child.

It took me no less than 15 years to admire Miss Dior. The original Miss Dior is like an antidote, so nerve-calming, relaxing and intoxicating. It is the smell of wisdom, acceptance, peace, elegance and artistry. The new EDT is just as good as the vintage EDT, I love them both - with the new one being fresher. The parfum extrait is much sweeter and rounder. I actually find the EDT has stronger projection compared to the parfum. My parfum is in amphora flacon, and I am not sure which year it is from. If anyone has any idea, please DM me. My EDTs are from the 90s and 2013. -AB-

I got this in a swap and was surprised how much Miss Dior Originale resembles Eau Sauvage, from the same Dior house. In fact, I think it is even better than ES, what it is a bit odd for a woman's scent. I don't see it as an old lady frag, but a fragrance very different from the sea of sweet little angles women seem so keen to wear these days. I was going to give it to some of my female collegues but now I am going to keep it for myself. Who knows Miss Dior is closer to the good and old Eau Sauvage? Miss D obviously would make a lovely flanker of ES.

original Miss Dior edp: Enchantment! On me, this is elegant, mysterious and sophisticated - worthy of a couture gown or an afternoon tryst (wink wink). The top reminds me of Chanel No. 5 but rounds into a soft warm floral that is knowing and a little naughty. Old Fashioned? Only if you are inexperienced. This and Poison are the only Dior frags that suit me thus far (both are masterpieces) so I hope to be able to add a few more to my "keeper" list. I had high hopes for Dioressence but the oakmoss is so overwhelming on me that I gave it to my husband.

Had the pleasure of testing from a vintage houndstooth bottle today and have not been able to stop myself from smelling my arm since! I'm a lover of perfume however I am attracted to sweeter and gourmand scents generally, but this is quite gorgeous! It was actually the new Miss Dior that got me back into perfume not too long ago. Although I intensely love the current reformulation of Miss Dior, I think the vintage Miss Dior that I sampled today may be even better. Wearing this made me feel elegant and classy, a beautiful experience.

Speaking for the vintage, it's one of the best fragrances ever made. It's distinctively feminine, however like almost all great frags, a man could wear and pull it off as well. When the case is chypre fragrances, my ultimate reference point is the vintage Aromatics Elixir by Clinique, I sincerely believe that it's the best made one. So comparing Miss Dior to it, the latter is drier and has a tad greener, dustier aroma. Miss Dior smells like richness to me. The scent oozes wisdom, elegance and class. *Migraine safe in general.

Wow, I got a small 5ml bottle of Miss dior EdT from the 80s-90s, and im so glad i bought it. its such a gorgeous, expensive smell, i feel like a old hollywood actress wearing this. The new version is good too but it cannot beat the vintage version. the aldehydes are beautiful in the beginning, the only middlenote i can smell is rose, but the best are the basenotes that come out after a couple of hours, its intoxicating oakmoss, leather and sandalwood. I have ordered a big bottle from ebay, because i cannot live without this.

Pretty much currently available formula: Lovely! and better than anything else on offer nowadays. Absolutely on my wish list as a chypre lover. Miss Dior Original is so elegant, so lady like, but not boring or stern, rather motherly, welcoming, and sophisticated. That's a lovely grandmother scent. And I love our grandmothers' scents way way more than the modern -and most of the time generic- twists on the art of perfumery. I have a new word for grandmother by the way: grandwoman. A grand woman perfume!

Reviewers saying the vintage is a totally different perfume than the most recent Originale are liars. I hate it when they put false reviews here. I have a houndstooth splash bottle with perfectly preserved juice inside and a 2015 Originale. Difference is just the full-bodiedness that the vintage has. This is probably due to bans to certain accords. Also the vintage lives a shorter span time as compared to the new one. That’s it. It’s still the gorgeous first perfume Dior launched. Get over yourselves.

Miss Dior has been one of my biggest discoveries this year. I own a miniature that looks like the photo here, I think it's the 1992 version. The first whiff upon spraying is a little heavier on galbanum than I'd like, but everything after that is just perfect. Feminine and clean, a little soapy but not too much. Oakmoss and aldehydes is a winning combination! I'm happy to have in my collection (a full bottle is on it's way as I'm writing) a new spring fragrance that doesn't rely on citruses.

Miss Dior wields oakmoss like a knife but after making a few gashes on her own green wasp-waisted, hip-padded suit she feels remorseful and nurses you back from the linchen distress with a leather glove caress, a little stale, dry white wine and a spread of dirty sage ointment, galbanum prickling your nose and a "there, there" rose-muguet scented lipstick stamp on your forehead but not a smile, ever. So much class. That is the vintage edt. What they did to this one still hurts.

Miss Dior in the original version is everything I dreamed it would be and then some more. It's very green and sharp as a razor blade in the opening, but oh so floral at the same time. It smells clean, but without being soapy. The oakmoss in the base is out of this world and the leather is exquisite, like an exclusive leather bag that has been immaculately cared for. Extremely elegant and not in the nonchalant sort of way. Miss Dior is oldfactory art and she's impeccable.

I have the vintage miss dior from the 50's and OH MY GOD why did they change this beautiful elegant and sophisticated scent to the sugar bomb that is miss dior of today? I mean all I can say about this vintage beauty is that it is elegance, grace and class in a bottle. It's clean, its' clear, its strong at first but immediately calms down to this soft right bouquet of expensive fresh flowers at the peek of their growth and smell. I wish they made it like this still.

I wore this over 35 years ago (maybe more,ahem) when it was in the classic Dior black and white Houndstooth print bottle. (also got a nice Dior sweater with the same print). I wore this for a couple of years and loved it then. Not one to stay with any perfume too long, I went on to all the others. I would love to smell this again, but I think even the one they now call "original" could not be the same soft leathery scent it was back then...could it?

First impressions: oh oh oh a potent juice from start, will soften though. But even for a person who loves heavy, balsamic, deep scents, old formula miss dior is hard to the nose. But, let her warm up. It's a beautiful, challenging chypre to deal with. Very green. I wish other perfumes were as potent as Miss Dior old formula; maybe light dabbing of this and layering with any other scent. Kind of old-ish if worn on it's own.

I adore it; dry as a bone--YES, old money--YES, but also somehow strong headshop vibes. I agree it's sexless, but not that it's no fun. Sorta bitchy, and I like that. I get the lovely true chypre accord and fleeting gain detergent notes, with a nice dose of patchouli. Galbanum so green and herbal, and soft sweet nondescript florals. This one is very easy for me to like, definitely right in my wheelhouse.

I was having a love affair with this one since a few years back. First it was Miss Dior Cherie, but she is gone, so I turned my nose to Miss Dior. I did not have high hopes, I was still sad and heartbroken about the departure of Cherie. Took a few years for Miss Dior to steal my heart. It is classic, sophisticated, "I am better then you", confident and naughty at the same time. I am sold.

I can’t describe how much love I have for this scent. It was my mom’s so I got a chance to smell it when I was young and it is the beginning of my love for patchouli lol I like floral-patchouli-green notes since then but nothing compares to this bottle. Sadly It’s hard to find nowadays so I save all I have to my storage. Just smell it some time but definitely not gonna wear it daily
