The smell of a dewy summers morning in the south scent breakdown - Opens up with bright, floral, fresh, and juicy combo of iris and a very realistic prickly pear accord. As it begins to dry down the green iris begins to take more of a center stage as the prickly pear boosts up the inherent freshness of the profile, all the while shots of white musks and a slightly waxy and unlisted magnolia note support the base. Doesn't change much in the deep dry down besides losing a fair bit of its water-like freshness as the florals truly take over. personal thoughts - Ever since I went and visited the southwestern United States 4 or so years ago I've been obsessed with prickly pear things. They're so juicy and sweet and one of the most unique fruits you can ever find yourself eating after hiking for 10 hours in a hot ass canyon. That being said, sourcing high quality and fresh prickly pear on the east coast is hard and expensive, and so when I stumbled upon this at my local Nordstrom 2 or so summers ago I was instantly brought back to my time in Arizona, Utah, and Nevada. If you've been out west, or want to get an idea of what the west smells like in the late spring, this might be as close as you're gonna get. performance - Moderate performance and projection that actually come alive in the summer time. Performance is a consistent 6.5ish hours no matter the climate, but in the summer I get really great projection off me, but I usually spray way too much of this anyways. rating - 9/10. when to wear - Summer picnics with friends and loved ones; White T-Shirt + Jeans/Summer Dress bougee brunch; When you want to come off as the rich but still fun family member song vibe - Every Morning by Sugar Ray TLDR - Watery, Juicy, & Fruity Prickly Pear + Green, Fresh Iris + Variety of Florals + Shots of White Musks. The holy grail of prickly pear perfume and one of the most unique summer fragrances on the market right now. A wonderful fruity, fresh, and floral perfume that is a must try for iris lovers or those looking for a fruity fragrance for the heat, but want a classier option. Top 3 from Diptyque. FYI - For those who have not smelled prickly pears, it smells like you took the musky, airy sweetness of a bartlett pear and mixed it with the refreshing water-y green of a cucumber and added a slight tropical flair like in dragon fruit; all with slight floral nuances depending on the region you pick the pear from (southeastern US and southwestern US prickly pears have different nuances).

last year towards the end of summer, i tested Ilio at a diptyque store in Vegas, and my number one regret of that entire trip was not buying it right then. I was distraught when i found out Ilio was a limited edition frag and i would have to have to wait a whole YEAR to get it, but at. long. last. Ilio is finally mine! it's fresh like a tall glass of fruit infused water on a HOT summer day. the iris gives it a powdery, clean note that is similar to Glossier's You line. Specifically You Fleur comes to mind, but Ilio is a bit more complex and fruit-forward. It's so unique while still being really appealing to others. it's light and fun but interesting and well-rounded. i am bit disappointed by the longevity (3-4 hours maybe) but it's not a deal breaker. sillage is more on the intimate side but anytime someone hugs me they tell me i smell good so at least i know it's there! i love it for summer days/evenings and it performs well when I sweat. My sister and i both mentioned that it smells identical to something from our childhood and i'm going insane trying to figure out what it is. either way that adds an extra layer of nostalgia that I love finding in a fragrance. it's hard to articulate but it really is such a special and different fragrance unlike anything i own.

First of all, a wonderful clean, soapy, even fruity and spicy scent. For a man, it is unisex, but it veers off to a synthetic or even plastic direction with a flowery topping and a bit of fig. It resembles a scent of sunscreen. Very addictive, because you may get stuck between: Is it too much? and I want more! kind of dilemma. Then, you get the woody and spicy undertone that bites. It is a light perfume and it performs well in the colder temperatures like under 80 F or 25 C, but it becomes fast a skin scent in warmer temperatures. I stress again that it is a unisex and very much on the female side kind of perfume if you are wary of fruity and flowery scents. As a man, you can wear it proudly and you will project class and cleanness. The olfactory sense's associations send you immediately to sunny and warm places. It is a social perfume that invites to attention because you will smell good. You may reckon that with this perfume at any social or party setting, you will get noticed. On the other hand, if you do not like powdery and flowery or even plasticky kind of scents, then make a huge circle to avoid this one.

Very realistic prickly pear in the opening, really fresh and watery, so so good. Iris kicks in later and it’s quite prominent so the scent doesn’t stay super fresh and watery but turns more smooth and creamy after about 30min. It’s definitely a great holiday scent although on a creamy side. For some reason reminds me of a fancy cucumber/mint/lime icy water, it’s weird I know cause I said it’s creamy...can’t explain it really. It also reminds me of being on vacation by the ocean on Yucatan peninsula. Ilio isn’t overwhelming but has presence. Great summer vibe, relaxing, really pleasant. (If I was blind testing this I would have said it was a fig scent, crazy realistic fresh fig scent lol) Update: I got a hair mist, being a bit cheap and thinking it’s the same as small EDT bottle, it’s not... :( I’m going through it so fast, the concoction is very diluted, I recommend the full EDT bottle if you really like the scent. Will lasts you longer.

I am in love with this intimate summer scent, Ilio is Fresh, succulent and uplifting. I grow prickly pear and can confirm that this smells exactly like when it is misted with cool water. Earthy, juicy and hydrating, this is not green apple and plants parading as cactus. Jasmine softens the scent and bergamot gives it a cirtussy zeal that pops on the skin. Ilio is not a loud summer perfume cliché. It is "arid elegance". It glows on the skin and lasts all day long. This feels like stepping into a crisp white linen robe after swimming in a rocky island lagoon. It is sipping refined desert wine under a Mediterranean sky. Ripe fruit sunbathing on bleached Greek terraces at golden hour. Ilio is your discreet but adoring summer love. It whispers, but you'll lean in because it's worth hearing.

The first few minutes in, this is really a beautiful sweet iris scent! The prickly pear on the open adds an interesting depth, and really captures the scent of the fruit quite faithfully. Though it seems subtle and rather faint, just when you think it's gone it pops up again about an hour later, and I agree with the reviewer below who noted the similarity to aloe. This iris in this reminds me a tad bit of early aughts Guerlain Insolence (not the reformulation which is too sharp imo) and reminds me why I used to love that. I also get a bit of Choward's Violet candies before it goes ever so slightly soapy & a touch aquatic, a bit like an expensive salon but in the way where you leave looking & feeling fantastic. Overall this is sweet, fresh, and clean and just really lovely.

I had my eye on this one for a bit as I’m usually into darker gourmand perfumes so hard to find that in summer fragrances 😅 but this one really surprised me! It’s a very fresh, aquatic yet green and floral (iris) scent, I feel like I’ve just jumped into clear water at a pristine beach on a perfectly warm and sunny day. It’s also calming and makes you feel like you’re chilling by the ocean, straw sunhat on, eyes closed and all you hear are the waves crashing. And this is a luxe and lush beach, hidden away from the popular tourist beaches. It’s EDT but projects well and lasts a pretty good time considering, this is actually my first diptyque perfume and I’m really happy about that. My amazing friend got this for me for my birthday so it’s already a special fragrance for me!

Ilio by Diptyque is one of my go to extreme heat fragrances. I’m an Iris lover, and i bought this because iris was listed at the top, it turned out not to be my usual kind of iris, it’s a green iris (as much as it can be), merely close to the iris in Misia by Chanel. It doesnt contain any sweetnes which most of my iris fragrances do; therefore non-sweet iris allows it to be worn in the extremely hot summer days. Opening of the fragrance smells like a picnic day in the woods, by time it becomes more powdery yet remains clean the whole time. It doesnt perform well so it doesnt cloy you in the heat. Moderate to low longevity, weak sillage, 10/10 scent, beautiful summer fragrance.

I fell in love at first sniff—and I immediately knew it would be my wedding perfume. I wish they made EDP so that the longevity would possibly be improved since I needed to reapply often to keep it around (it's possibly the worst-performing of my Diptyque EDT). A year later, I am still as much in love with this easy (but not simple), light, happy fragrance as I was when I found it. I keep my 2022 bottle for special occasions but I am happy to see it reissued year after year with different art so I know I am not as much at risk of not being able to have a bottle in my wardrobe as I feared I would be when I was almost unable to find a bottle before the wedding day 👀

I am love with this! I smelt a realistic cucumber note, very watery, very grassy, almost mossy. And something very sweet but not straight sugar, like Baccarat Rouge. Unfortunately I do not know what prickly pear smells like. Unique, summery, fresh! There is an underlying mossy/ vetiver note but it is not masculine. It gives the perfume grounding and a touch of elegance rather than being too sweet. Good projection and longevity. One of those perfumes you don't become anosmic to. Zero soap or Lipstick or play dough on my skin. No idea what others are talking about. Similar to Armani Prive Figiuer Eden in the drydown. Creamy cardamom-like Sandalwood, iris and amber.

Ilio is the perfect embodiment of a summer scent—bright, uplifting, and bursting with a powdery floral citrus that radiates joy. The opening is stunning, with a generous dose of iris, vibrant citrus, and juicy heliotrope. As it dries down, the scent softens beautifully. After wearing it a few more times (and applying a bit more), I’ve noticed that the creamy, fruity sweetness I adored in the opening lingers longer in the drydown, which I love. There’s also a hint of something reminiscent of dried nuts or coconut, blending with the powdery iris. Truly beautiful and addictive. I’ve had my bottle for a few years now, and there’s already a noticeable dent in it.

The iris bushes out front are perfectly manicured. Over the wooden picket fence, your neighbors' jasmine is blooming, and a cool breeze carries the scent over to you. You smile. Alternatively, you're sitting on a lawn chair in your desert backyard, and while scrolling through Fragrantica reviews and smelling your wrist, a bag of watermelon Jolly Ranchers gets hurled in your face.

Smells refreshing. Like you've put summer on the beach into a bottle. This takes me back to being 10, in Fiji, about to leave for dinner, and religiously applying the green vaseline moisturiser on myself after my post-beach shower. It smells exactly like this experience for me. I definitely get more of the prickly pear in this perfume. If you love a refreshing, cooling, and light scent, I'd definitely recommend this. It can smell really different on people's skin, so I'd suggest trying it out and letting it sit on you throughout the day before you buy it, as sometimes it can leave an off-putting smell on some people.

I am so happy that I gave a second chance to Ilio. I got a sample a year ago, got a first sniff, and said: no, no and no. I am not a Jasmin lover, and at my first sniff all I could smell was the jasmine. A year later, on the attempt to use all my samples, I try again and surprisingly enough I fell in love with this fragrance. It is citrus, sweet, airy, I would say also aquatic. It transports me to a calm day on the Mediterranean. I dont know what changed for me exactly, but now I just think it is perfectly blended. Besides, for a freshy, it is quite long-lasting.

Summer in a bottle... but all year round! I just recently got my hands on this gem. To me, the opening smells like banana leafs. Fully aware that this isn’t a note in this perfume but that’s what it smells like to me. After that, a juicy prickly pear takes over accompanied by a powdery iris. It’s effortless, joyful, playful but mature at the same time. I also own the hair perfume so I can make it last longer and project more. Clearly designed for summer but I wear it all year round - especially when I need a little ray of light on a grey winters day. Wonderful!

Lovely high summer scent from Diptyque, Ilio. Love, love, love, the illustration, works very well with the summer vibe and story from Diptyque. Smell wise, the most important part. The jasmin is very noticeble and love how it is combined. With the first spray it was a welcome floral scent. Later it sets in and it has a more intemate floral/fresh blossom scent on my skin. Very pleasent and soft. I just received it and love it. Looking foward to wear this scent this summer! (New here, so figuring things out & also saying hi! And love reading your comments)

I grabbed a sample of this after hearing a rave review on TikTok and now I am having a very hard time not buying the full bottle. It's such a lovely summer scent without being too obvious, the prickly pear is perfect and there's just something about this that suggests salt and sun while still smelling fresh and creamy and not overwhelming. I was also surprised at the wear time--it lasted a good 8 hours on me, and while it's not a huge projector, it stayed solid and noticeable on me throughout its wear. An absolute dream of a summer scent.

This is beautiful. As with all of my dyptique fragrances, this needed to sit for a while to show its power. The watery prickly pear is so lovely and uplifts the purple notes. I do pick up the sunscreen vibe but I enjoy it. This also layers well and compliments my other iris perfumes in ways they wouldn’t on their own. I feel if you layer body oils and creams before applying the longevity of this is quite good! I love this and l I would 100% buy this again!

love at first sight, not the sunscreen-y, sticky kind of love but a light and fresh one. although the citrusy bergamot note isn't very pronounced in this fragrance, the combination of a slightly juicy prickly pear and a powdery iris is to die for. as someone who isn't a fan of white flower scents, i don't smell much jasmine either, which is a win for me! this has become my go-to fragrance on a hot summer day, would definitely repurchase next year.

This is such a lovely, summery, fresh, aquatic scent. Smells like being out by the pool all day without evoking cheap sunscreen of chlorine. Unfortunately, I think it's a bit of a one-trick-pony and can only be worn for a few months out of the year (in my part of the world), and has a very weak projection and lasting power so I will not be purchasing a full sized bottle. LOVE my sample for when it's sunny and humid, though!

This is one of the best iris scents on the market, this is the perfume that got me into the scent of iris and I've loved it since. This is a freshly peeled pear in the sea side of Italy, fresh sweet and refreshing, as it dries down a sweetness like vanilla comes out, like a gelato in the evening when everyone is off shore. washing off the sand off their feet. This and Orpheon are the best works from diptyque.

In my Mexican household, I grew up eating a bunch of prickly pear . This scent is just that exactly - fresh juicy sweet prickly pear , comes off a bit shampoo. The jasmine is very soft to provide a famine touch along with the powdery iris. Very beautiful scent. I need a bottle but it’s a hefty price. I also have an oil perfumery dupe so for now it also is satisfying that need for a full bottle lol

I absolutely adore this perfume !! It smells slightly different on me everytime I wear it but it's consistent enough to recognize the scent. The iris is incredibly strong but it dries down to a wonderful jasmine with slight bergamot on me. She definitely lasts for a while, as I can always smell her on me. Definitely a more cozy and clean scent.

I worried that this might be too powdery but it actually strikes a nice balance between iris, bergamot and what I think is the cactus/watery note. The first time I wore it my entire body just relaxed. It smells like summer, like the desert, and like a fizzy bubble bath. It’s light and I love that - it sits close to the skin. Major mood lifter!

I grew up in Israel so I know the smell of prickly pear and it is very nostalgic for me. It is more fruity than anything, but also quite airy and fresh. It does remind me a bit more of figs, but real figs, not like the Philosykos. It is by far one of my favorites because they were able to capture something very natural and real with this one.

Ilio immediately transported me back to the time when I was a child in a countryside in Asia, with my mom washing my hair with a beautiful, soapy, flowery scent, and the cold wind blew by. Just like the person before me, this smells like what childhood feels like, uplifting, stress free and life is worth living. 10/10 will get a full bottle.

What a lovely prickly pear perfume. Imagine it like a pear champagne or a zesty pear cider in the opening. The lovely fresh fruit stays with you for quite some time, even though settled down. It loses the sparkle and becomes a mild sweet floral. Quite lovely. Very unique. That fresh, tarty pear opening is quite of the star I must say.

This is a mass pleasing scent that's perfect for hot sunny weather. I can smell the deliciousness of prickly pear upon the first note and then it will turn into beautiful jasmine & a bit of freshy citrus. It lasts 4-6 hours on a humid day. It's probably not as unique as other Diptyque juice, but me and everyone around me LOVES it.

I'm just starting to dip my toe in Diptyque's pool, am I can absolutely see why Ilio is a well-loved spring/summer fragrance. Femme florals are usually total hits or misses for me, and this one is definitely a winner! Not too overpowering, but fresh, soft, and I love the prickly pear and citrus offsetting the iris and jasmine.

ilio, they could NEVER make me hate you. my forever daily fragrance; i own two bottles, two hair mists, and i thank the diptyque gods they have made this a permanent scent! begging for an extended product range (body care please!), but until then, i will keep spraying this beautiful prickly pear dream until the day i die <3

Sheer heaven in a bottle. I get prickly pear and iris. It’s tart, fresh, gentle, lotiony, and papery. It lasts longer than I initially thought, especially the lotiony iris dry down. If it was a touch stronger it might well be ideal. Big mood booster. Utterly inoffensive but definitely not boring. Please give us an edp!

Musky and bright, like an evening in Greece overlooking the water from your hotel room. It does smell like a fruity shampoo but far more interesting, however as a person who dislikes soapy scents this is delightful and instantly elevates my mood. (Also I should let you know this is a review for the hair mist)

Bought this when it became part of the regular collection. Loved it immediately. Perfect summer scent for daily use. It is bright, lasts long enough for a beach day. I don't get woody from this scent, but fresh spicy, floral, and fruity (some citrus) are right on. Can lean towards a spray-on sunscreen smell.

Something about this reminds me of shampoo and sunscreen from my childhood. It’s clean and therapeutic with subtle fruitiness from the prickly pear. It smells like a sunny summer day. Very well-blended and uplifting. The performance is not great, but if they make an EDP version, I’ll buy it in a heartbeat.

Uplifting and enjoyable! Definitely has some sweetness but doesn't seem synthetic or cloying. I don’t find anything too complex about this but I think that’s what makes it so pleasant. I get whiffs of this even after 6 hours of wear, despite being an EDT.

I have tried and l loved it! Smelled like a salvage flower...l see a little yellow flower that l picked up from my garden as a image then it disappears in 30 min. It's nostalgic, comforting, delicate and lovely but very weak in my skin.

This gave me a vibe like Beach Walk by Maison Martin Margiela but smoother and kinda linear. Very bright, natural, summery, uplifting, a bit sweet and powdery. Performance is great on me, I could get 7-8 hours easily 👍

To me this smells like the most amazing, juicy, clean, fruity shampoo!! It's really nice. Really light and airy and perfect for summer!! I don't find it to be too powdery, and everything just seems so well blended.

Fresh, green, slightly sweet. The prickly pear is definitely the dominant note, very close to realistic; almost like a fresh, chilled cucumber slice. Very refreshing in the 95° heat here in the southern US.

Iris done perfectly. This shit smells so simple but it's great. It's romantic, but in a "let's go for a brunch date so I can see your face in the light" type of thing.

My son gifted me this beautiful perfume. Like it so much. Floral, fruity. Reminds me of Aqua Fiorentina by Creed. Lasts about 6 hours on skin 12 hours on clothes.

A juicy prickly pear that's also very clean and elegant, green but fresh!! A really good pick, longevity isn't great but it's so good I still recommend it :-)
