Jardin Clos

The fleshy, toothsome greenery and humid florals of Jardin Clos, dappled with reflective dew and steamy in the mist, is like an unusually humid day in May. The lilacs are in full display, showy and succulent, bearing their beauty in a seductive manner, while hyacinths are now overripened and near decline, but still emit their powerful bouquet. Perfumer Daniel Moliere, who is responsible for such gems as Leonard Balahe and Guy Laroche Clandestine, demonstrates that he knows his way around florals, lending a hyperrealism while also heeding to the nuanced aesthetic of Diptyque. His usage of a watermelon accord without necessarily leaning too much on watermelon ketone (calone) is ingenious as well, as it elevates what would otherwise perhaps be a stifling thickness. My nose discerns what it believes to be mimosa as well, and even a waxy tartness that suggests that of scented tulips (yes, they do exist!), and I will agree with others who've reviewed it that there is the sensation of being in a greenhouse mid-way into the development, even suggesting the scent of certain orchids. What I do truly appreciate though is that this all laid on a foundation of oakmoss and cedar that pulls it down to earth, smoothing over the verdancy, and what is left feels more meditative, as if I've moved from the wet gardens and hothouse to a reflecting pool at sunset. Unfortunately, this one has been out of production for quite a while and fetches a pretty penny, but I scored this for a great deal as I waited about three years until I found the right price. Sometimes that's what it takes: testing myself to resist impulse. It's an ongoing practice.

I don't get any watermelon which is a good thing, because I have doubts that this note I could like. So - what do I get? At the opening I get wonderful, dreamy and fresh lilac flowers. In my parents house there is lovely garden with around 20 lilac shrubs. At spring when they start to bloom the scent is absolutely amazing. This is what I get most out of Jardin Clos. There is some strange stuff lingering now and then, it's not unpleasant, but I can't tell what is it. For me it's extremely gentle and feminine and perfect reminder of spring. I've tested some of the Diptyque perfumes some time earlier, but never found them alluring. Now - smelling this I've understood that it was because of the citruses not because of the brand. This is amazing.

I got a sample of this and it is lovely. I did not detect the watermelon note but found it to be a lovely hyacinth with distinct lilac. The woody notes are subtle but add to the composition. It lasted several hours on my skin and it is still pleasantly fragrant after 3 days on a cotton round. Definitely worth a full bottle.

Very pretty - I get a strong hyacinth note, and a tiny bit of watermelon at the very beginning. It's fresh and green enough to suit even me. I liked my decant enough to buy a FB and expend my perfume budget for the next 2 months. The longevity is good, it lasts for about 6 hours on me, sillage is moderate.

This was my signature scent for years and I was very sad it was discontinued. Woke up today inexplicably thinking of this fragrance and missing it. I wish they'd bring it back.

I love this fragrance! It's especially divine when it's worn with patchouli essential oil!

this opens with tons of hyacinth and oakmoss...it smells very vintage. then i get musk, cedar and lilac. maybe a hint of watermelon but not much. it's floral, earthy, green and musky/mildly aquatic (from watermelon.) the musk and hyacinth get stronger over time and it's a floral woody musk with greenery. the watermelon adds a bit of a lightness. it seems like a good springtime perfume.

I just received it in the mail, and I was anxious to try it. The description and comments were quite enticing, and I've been hunting for this fragrance for while. However, my initial impression is rather disappointing. The musk is overpowering, of a soapy kind that I don't particularly enjoy. I catch whiffs of watermelon, but mostly I get soap. Unlike other reviewers, I don't detect any greenery or flowers. Maybe it became like this after a week in transit. I'm hoping it will get better after resting in a dark cool closet for a while. I'll update my review if it does.

Diptyque JARDIN CLOS is aptly named, for this is a floral greenhouse perfume, with lots of flowers complete with stems and leaves all exuding oxygen faster than you can breathe! I've sampled a few other greenhouse perfumes in my travels through the world of perfume, and this one is considerably milder than some of the others—including one by Calypso St. Barth—which are a bit overwhelming. JARDIN CLOS, in contrast, is very well-behaved. Floral, yes. Green, yes. But both in a pleasing way. JARDIN CLOS is more green and less brown than EAU DE LIERRE, and for some reason presents an orchid-like facet to my nose. As I wore JARDIN CLOS earlier today I was even reminded of Lalique FLORA BELLA, but in a side-by-side comparison tonight, I must say that they are very different compositions. Both are very floral, but the Diptyque is very green as well, while the Lalique, when lightly applied, has more of a tropical vibe and is not at all green. FLORA BELLA packs a powerful punch and must be sparingly applied in order to enjoy its layered beauty. (Overapplied, it becomes something of an orchid nightmare.) Forced to choose between the two, I'd have to take FLORA BELLA, but JARDIN CLOS is a fine floral green with a slightly soapy edge in the drydown which I can commend to anyone who likes the greener perfumes of that genre. In terms of greenness, this composition is still quite a bit milder than MA GRIFFE (Carven), FUTUR (Robert Piguet) and CARILLON POUR UN ANGE (Tauer). Not sure that I know any men would wear JARDIN CLOS, despite the house's claim that this is unisex.

Bring it back Diptyque! masterpiece! a wonderful creamy bouquet of garden flowers: hyacinth, lilac, Syringa Williams, mimosa, geranium. Jardin Clos is the smell of a summer day walking by a French garden. Why discontinuing such an amazing fragrance? Very feminine but as a man I love it. Smells very sexy on a woman or a man.

What's wrong with Jardin Clos is hard to pin down, But nah it doesn't work for me.It starts with a strange watermellon note, then it turns into a tender hyacinth soliflore and the only moment that i like it is only before the fadeaway when it's mossy and earthy.

Very strong hyacint and very strong oakmoss, could also be booze. Earthy in a way that remind me of the end of fall, rainy och goo-ey outside. No watermelon whatsoever. Maybe more suitable for a 45+ person.

Bright fresh flowers with dirty ashtray underneath. Not sure what happened there but this one completely fails to work for me.

Not very extraordinary think as the price "exige".Its jus another aquatic and also cheap scented perfume.
