Lunamaris

What a peculiar and unique fragrance that I really adore. I tested samples of the new line from Diptyque months ago (except Lilyphea, still yet to try) and Lunamaris was an immediate stand out. Something about is familiar, yet nothing like anything I've smelled before. Needless to say, in the middle of winter, I bought this thinking "this will be perfect for a warm, humid day". Well, here I am, finally really "wearing" it while on a tropical beach trip and it is completely perfect. I've been obsessing over the smell all week and couldn't recall what the notes were, so I'm just now realizing..... these notes make no sense !!! Is there pepper? Sure! Is there something floral-(maybe)-rose-like going on? Sure! But..... incense, labdanum, and amber? I'd say ..... maybe? but in this, I would have never guessed those notes as the 'main profile'. I typically associate those notes with "spicy/warm" fragrances which this is not! Maybe the blend of each, in small quantities, with whatever is actually happening (salty, mineral, slightly sharp but in a pleasant way) builds this fairly complex fragrance. The notes & the inspiration also don't align to me? But the inspiration/imagery, being mother of pearl with water droplets coating the surface, makes complete sense. All of this to say, I really enjoy this fragrance and have found it to be perfect for a humid beach day & evening. It's elegant and unexpected. Finally - I also want to say, I'm usually NOT A FAN or fragrances that claim to have "watery" or "sea" like notes/essences. Out of the many, many I've tried, they ALL seem to incredibly synthetic. This fragrance avoids that completely!!!! I also completely disagree with comments saying it smells like Fleur de Peau... this is nothing like FDP (Iris, musk, powdery).

A bit of a frag novice here, but I wanted to put my two cents inn, as I (too) had expected something a little different compared to the scent profile above. Others have mentioned sharp rose and an almost mineralic quality, which I definitely pick up on. Like if you buried a bunch of roses in the sand on a windy beach. Yes, sharp and peppery. Yes, a little sour (on first sniff I wrote down 'pissy'). The amber is faint on me, but there's enough to make it cohesive and grounded. To me, on my skin, it's kind of like Aesop Rozu's shy, ghostly little sister, whisper-singing to herself in the bathroom mirror, imitating her more complex, grown, interesting older sister. Like others below have mentioned, this scent might be too simple and not unique enough to some. The promotional image of a pearlescent sea shell is spot on, if you ask me. Cold, sandy, quiet, almost transparent but with an eclectic, nature inspired sheen that makes it noticable. I absolutely adore it.

★★★★★★★★☆☆ Lunamaris feels like a warm hug. Diptyque describes it honestly - very clear pink peppercorn, incense, and rose. Imagine a cozy, renaissance-style study where a fireplace crackles and you are wrapped in a soft velvet blanket, falling asleep in a comfy chair. Extremely linear - the scent stays the same until very last sniff. From reading the reviews it seems to be the least popular among the Les Essences collection. I disagree with many comments that it lacks uniqueness. For me it's one of the rare warm spicy perfumes that won't evoke any impressions related to sensuality or sexiness. It’s all about comfort and elegance, and I was totally surprised. Longevity is fantastic. One spray lasts over six hours on my skin, and it clings to my sweaters for like forever. The downside is the price, even when compared to other EDPs of the house.

If you have ever looked into a lover's eyes to be greeted by an infinite cosmos, if you have ever dunked a sunbleached seashell back into shallow ocean water to unveil it's true prism... then you have already begun to read the text of Lunamaris. A scent that shimmers metaphysically, phantasmal aquatic songs ringing out from the spiraled belly of a conch shell. Pink pepper sharp and aromatic. Tiny dune-blooming floral dotting the coast like stars on an inky expanse, kissed gently by a salty breeze. Incense pressed into talismans by servants of the Olympian gods, lit by sparking seaglass like flintstone. A poem delivered from the half shell, a kiss underwater with your eyes open, the light broken by the waterline into infinite amber and aquamarine ribbons.

The sleeper of Les Essences, Lunamaris can be easily dismissed as just another pink pepper musk. With patience you'll notice that pink pepper giving shimmer to the softest labdanum and incense. The effect evokes the luminescence of mother of pearl in moonlight, beautiful. Lunamaris, on skin, is a skin scent, what your skin will smell like after a nice bath, maybe with some lovely labdanum soap, a light dusting of the finest powder and a quick meditation in a small, open temple with sweet incense in the air. Lunamaris lasts a decent amount on skin with soft sillage, longer and more noticeable on fabric. A note, Lunamaris layers beautifully with Corail Oscuro.
